Kiss goodbye to the Aussie coal industry? Are Australia’s climate fanatic politicians planning to sell out Australia’s fossil fuel industry, to secure support for hosting the COP31 climate conference in 2026?
Australia to bid to host climate change conference COP 31
By Nick Pearson 12:23pm Nov 5, 2022
Australia will bid to host the world’s biggest conference on climate change in 2026, the government has announced.
Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen confirmed the country will bid to host COP 31 in partnership with Pacific nations.
COP 31 is the shortened name for the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

“This is an Olympic moment – a huge opportunity to host a nation-building global event,” O’Gorman said.

Last June, Aussie Federal Climate And Energy Minister Chris Bowen explained we don’t have to worry about renewable energy intermittency, because we can store electricity like water.
Aside from being technologically ignorant, in my opinion Bowen may be one of those insecure Aussie politicians, who is utterly desperate for international recognition.
We can only speculate what rash promises or taxpayer cash giveaways Aussie Federal Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen will offer, to make a favourable impression on international climate conference delegates. If Bowen is as weak as I fear, it won’t take long for climate conference delegates to figure him out.
After the gross failure of 26 and the impending failure of 27 – oh and the failures of 1to 25 including the Paris Agreement- I’m surprised any politician would wish to tarnish himself (sorry about the pronoun)
Australia is the only major country which upped its ambition. Our politicians are too dumb to realise the party is over.
But we must continue giving billions per year to those developing countries (like China) to enable them to do precisely NOTHING. Gee – didn’t Oh Bummer orchestrate a magnificent Paris bullshit “agreement”.
Yep: lizard-self is, I believe, the correct word.
The failure may be the failure of those attending actually paying for the COP31 “benefit”.
Bring it on. I already have some truly wicked stunts planned to humiliate them if Australia is not under CCP totalitarian control by then. They are absolute stinkers which will gain attention due to their colourful and provocative outfits.
As for having their climate luvvie fest in Australia, think about all those flying miles and the emissions-oh, the emissions.
When the time comes, WUWT will have to publish the details of booked rallies.4 years to plan some truly wicked stunts. I have just thought of the stinker of all stinkers, but it would be extremely difficult to pull off.
“…the stinker of all stinkers…, shirley you’re thinking of skunk farts, yea, that’s it, get a large group of skunks and only feed them beans, and…go for it.
you wont be alone in wanting to trash their lovefest
Has anybody calculated the total carbon emissions of all the COPs?
What’s a “Carbon Emission”?
Just offset.
Works for everything. Fly overseas? Give money to tree planting. Burn down a house? Donate to builders. Murder some fools? Have some unprotected sex with some random women.
Offset. Solves everything.
Bowen is possibly the most dangerous and destructive politician in Govn’t right now.
and dumbest. Remember he did spend some time riding the Gillard bike.
“Remember he did spend some time riding the Gillard bike.”
Eeeeeeww…
Maybe so but let’s look at the positive side. There’s every chance that with his ego and buffoonery he will be the guy who almost single-handedly brings down the current government.
Which is probably why PM Albanese isn’t going to COP 27. It is so that Albanese can dismiss anything Bowen says, does or, especially, signs after COP 27 is over.
We get the kudos for any harebrained scheme Bowen supports at CPP 27 but then don’t have to pay for it after.
With a bit of luck the American mid-term elections will get the Republicans in charge of both Congress and Senate on Monday. Here is hope that the COP annual stupidity will have finally died a natural death. Surely the world can’t continue with this mind-numbingly inane charade.
Never underestimate the capacity for stupidity of any politician, irrespective of party…
Or nation
COP 31?
This will run and run… and run.

Money. The only thing that can kill CO2
I don’t see why Australia, as host, shouldn’t require all delegates to come without using fossil fuel. It would be the best COP ever – well it would be if no Australian delegate could walk to it.
I want to try the Doom option so where I can I vote?
Those who know him, say he suffers from small d*** syndrome.
One thing is certain, you won’t be able to get to the COP in 2026 without a very long flight if you are from anywhere particularly so for those in the northern Hemisphere. With that in mind the demonization and banning of air travel will be postponed by a few years yet.
See, there is always a silver lining if you look hard enough….
This article in the Daily Telegraph makes interesting reading. It does however make the assumption that there is a climate change problem that needs addressing. I think that assumption is totally wrong.

smarmy little a**kissing twit, with a position he can abuse and do a LOT of damage in
Storing water, such as by building dams, is vastly cheaper than storing energy. And storing water has multiple benefits- you have the water, you have recreation, you have ecological benefits, you have flood protection- so it’s a great investment.
Mind you, speaking as an older bloke, I find storing water has its problems also!
How do you define “older bloke”? Do I qualify at 73? Or is 73 the new 43? I hope so.
I’m an American- never been to Australia, but I always had the image of it as a nation of down to Earth, hard working, common sense folks, Was my image of it wrong or I have failed to update it? If it was correct in the past what has caused such a culture change?
All of the former colonies – NZ, Australia, US and Canada – have. to differing degrees, gone loopy.
Not to mention the mother-country. As a native of Great Britain, I am offended that you ignore the world-leading efforts of our glorious politicians (and, of course, his most sublime Majesty (Carolus Wrecks III)).
Mad cow disease, maybe.
The same cultural shift as in the whole western world; marxist infection
You’re 50 years out of date. Nowadays, Australia is as bad as America, with everybody wanting to sue somebody over the most trivial things. The chardonnay set has been replaced by the inner-city teals, all trying to force their own crazy beliefs onto everybody else.
I don’t see any way of curing the country. It’s hopeless.
Maybe when China starts moving into nearby islands, Australia will wake up.
Unfortunately they’ve got a pretty strong foothold already.
Nah, but when China moves into Sydney maybe.
Photo taken on Aug. 27, 2022 shows a man and a herd of cows standing in the sandstorms in the town of Laisamis, Marsabit County,

You can see the problem here clearly. This man has to pay a tax on cow farts in order to change the climate and enjoy world peace. The experts will explain it all to him.
So someone’s still expecting Greta to be raging away and, fairly obviously, maintaining her principles and thus not able to attend.
If they were any more transparent they’d disappear entirely.
Here’s hoping eh……..
Most of the doom and gloom predictions of the climate clown show point to COP105. Hopefully, all this madness will crash against reality way before.
Not too sure if many folk are aware of this, but OZ has already sold off its coal industry.
The sickening virtue signaling of BHP and RIO has resulted in Australian premier coal mines having been GIVEN AWAY (not sold) to Japanese and Chinese interests.
These Chinese and Japanese operators are making a killing at present with coal prices at record highs and every indication prices will go higher.
BHP and RIO used to be very good mining companies.
These days they are pathetic on any parameter you care to mention.
They are no longer mining companies; they exist on past reputations.
Their Boards of Directors are pathetic.
Now, do you want me to tell you what I really think?
they have 1.5 workers to manager ratio
Yes they are gutless wonders pandering to the woke left.
Don’t be so cruel to koalas.
I though the climate crisis was going to leave everything underwater and/or on fire by 2026.
Oh, you optimist, you.
Poor fella my country.
He may find himself alone while attempting to kiss up. What ever his motivation it will not end well. Why, because poverty is not the goal of most people.
FLOP31 will achieve the same as FLOPS1 to 30 – i.e. nothing
Other than full MSM coverage for a week to keep the bed wetters awake at night..
Major conference re climate change in Australia? Sure. Why not? As long as the participants get down under in a carbon neutral fashion — perhaps by swimming or rowing.
Even if one isn’t conscious of the fragility of “climate science” it’s kind of hard to take folks seriously who can’t figure out that moving their conference to an on-line venue would save a lot of carbon powered energy.
If they “cancel” coal…
…..where will all the electricity come from to run COP31 ?
Maybe hook up a couple of private jet engines, there will be plenty there.!
UK used diesel generators to keep the EVs charged during COP26.

It won’t matter, for they won’t be in government by then.
Chris Bowen ”…we can store the renewable energy if we have the investment”
What a tosser.
There will be a general election before 2026 so we shall see.
My generation of Australians, born before about 1950, would have mounted a large and effective campaign to stop the rot of the COP plus the destruction of our hydrocarbon energy industry.
Blind Freddie can see that we need fossil fuels for energy and hydrocarbons like natural gas for making products like plastics and fertilizers. (I was part of the startup team for the big urea plant on Gibson Island, Brisbane, about 1968).
These days, managers of resources projects have gone spineless and lost the plot. They take no notice of the actual experience of their elders. A common, ignorant tactic these days is to not acknowledge, and not answer, emails and letters from us. If there is no app to help them reply, they go into helpless mode.
Come on, you current resource managers. We oldies delivered you massive, world class resources for many commodities that society demands and all you can do is stuff them up in the face of the fairy tale called climate change.
You should get together for a series of intense, fact based seminars to work out and put in motion a proper response to this climate change fantasy. You must know how much of it is a beatup based on failed climate modelling programs mixed with zealotry from neo-Communists.
Get a life. Earn you pay by putting it right. Geoff S
“If Bowen is as weak as I fear”
No, Bowen is much weaker than that. He’s certifiably crazy. How else could you explain that he wants to take the very nutrients that support all life on Earth away from the plants.
What is the deal with the Australian people? Why do they keep electing these bozos?
They are not elected Giordano, like all socialist/communist/totarian governments, they stack the counting booths with union workers to cheat the ballots.
Union membership is for the individual who is spineless, unable to think nor see the flaws in their idealogy, much like the AGW party crowd. All the same people, the true ‘useless eaters’ who demand we change our ways and beliefs.
