h/t Dr. Willie Soon; According to Professor “Lockdown” Neil Ferguson, the unusual concentration of Omicron cases in Scotland suggests the outbreak may have been seeded by the COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow.
Professor Neil Ferguson warns a full lockdown might be needed to stop Omicron overwhelming NHS as he says super-variant may have been seeded at COP26 summit in Glasgow
- Ferguson – who was dubbed Prof Lockdown – said return of stay-at-home orders ‘certainly might be possible’
- Growing concerns about UK Christmas freedoms after number of British Omicron cases rose to 437 yesterday
- No10 is already drawing up new plans for Britons to work from home and offices to shut, according to reports

‘Professor Lockdown‘ Neil Ferguson today admitted that another nationwide shutdown could be on the cards to tackle Omicron as he warned the super variant will be dominant before Christmas.
The Government scientist, whose modelling bounced No10 into the original lockdown last spring, said the return of stay-at-home orders ‘certainly might be possible’ if the mutant strain threatens to overwhelm the NHS.

Omicron cases are concentrated in London and in Scotland. As Britain’s major transport hub, London has often been the UK’s epicentre for new variants. But Professor Ferguson claimed Omicron might have been seeded in Glasgow at the Cop26 climate summit at the start of November in Glasgow.
…
Personally I’m surprised the virus wasn’t killed off by all the COP26 private jet diesel exhaust fumes, but clearly if COP events are going to spread new Covid variants, all future COP events should be cancelled.
Update (EW): Professor Neil Ferguson resigned in 2020 after being caught breaking his own lockdown rules, sneaking his married lover Antonia Staats into his home for some naughties, but for some reason he still gets a lot of airtime. Antonia Staats at the time worked for the global activism group Avaaz. Several senior Canadian Conservatives accused Avaaz of being connected to George Soros, but the allegations were withdrawn after legal action.
It is not “omicron” then!
It should be gretatunbergon!
It would be interesting to see if there are Omicron outbreaks in the areas where COP26 participants live. If participants managed to pass the virus to locals, it’s very likely that they passed it to each other as well.
Did anyone ever manage to audit the original code for Ferguson’s model? back in 2020 I saw a spate of posts about issues with the “cleaned up by Micosoft” version, but at the time the original code was kept out of sight.
Multi-trillion dollar decisions should not be made based on unverified models and any model where the source code is not open for anyone to inspect is unverified.
I wonder what the diplomatic mission was that the visit was so short, and timed to end just before COP26 was supposed to. No hint as to nationality is offered unfortunately.
Shocked that Ferguson still has a job, any job ?
How deadly is omicron? If the real case fatality ratio is CFR, then then probability of surviving is 1-CFR. If there are N cases cumulatively with enough elapsed time for death to be a likely outcome (say at least 3 weeks previously), and provided they are a reasonably balanced sample, then the probability of zero deaths is (1-CFR)^N. If we want to be 95% certain that the true CFR is less than a given figure, then this should be no higher than 0.05. So we have that
log(0.05)/N>log(1-CFR)
log(0.05) = -1.30103. So with zero deaths recorded after 1,000 3 week+ old cases we have the CFR below 0.3% and by 10,000 cases it is below 0.03%. Given the relative lack of testing in South Africa and the mildness of symptoms in so many cases, it seems plausible that we already have reached the 10,000+ historic cases level (and if not, it is only a day or two away). The 50/50 level would be 0.007% CFR at 10,000 cases. That’s about the probability I was quoted the last time I went under the surgeon’s knife.
COVID Greta strikes !
People “saving the planet” spreading COVID instead. Now that’s hilarious.😆
Duh
Caution:
Vitamin D3 is often sold in capsules also containing Calcium for bone health.
Too much Ca in tablet intake can cause hypercalcemia, which can have dangerous consequences like delirium, dizziness (falls), fever and assorted others like permanent brain damage. A close friend is just out of a week in hospital that was near fatal and hard to diagnose. Geoff S
I have been guided by the original study from Spain (pre jabs) that showed all patients with a titre of over 50μmol survived covid. Normal level is anything above 30μmol, where most except a very small number of elderly survived. Unless you start from a position of severe deficiency, where a temporary course at a higher dose may be required, a maintenance dose should be sufficient to maintain covid safe levels.
I have genetically low vitamin D, so I take loads of pills every day, and get some tropical sunshine. Makes a big difference with the common cold coronavirus, so I take it as a near certainty it would help with Covid.
Thanks for the warning. I have seen mention of avoiding calcium while taking high levels of D3. In the UK, the minimal dose to prevent rickets/osteoporosis is all the NHS seems focused on. As far as I know, it is mainly the tablets that tend to add the calcium (often as a bulking agent), so higher dose tablets are likely to have less total calcium than multiple small dose tablets for the same overall dose of vit D. Vit K is recommended if taking high doses of vit D, and it’s function appears to be related to regulating the calcium within the body. The (oil containing) gel capsules I have do not list calcium in the ingredients, and I suspect the sprays will be similar. A daily dose seems to be recommended where seasonally we get effectively none from sunlight. In some countries, the standard form for D3 supplements is monthly or weekly bolus dose vials which I presume is just the vit D carried in oil.

Delta was no where near as bad as last winters wave, and Omicron is even weaker judging by SA data, so no, he is completely wrong.
Completely? Given the panic response of governments (UK and elsewhere) to omicron, there would still be a certain irony if he’s right about COP26 having been a seed event of it. The UK government explicitly included exemptions in its Covid regulations to allow COP26 delegates to come and go (similar exemptions were also given for G7 and some other international shindig).
Getting Omicrom would have a benign pathology for most people, and would be on top, the occasion to get a really efficient immunizazion wrt. the leaky vaccines.
Ferguson’s still employed, just another group like Sage. This is a man whose record of modelling of pandemics makes those of the climate nutters look good. Should have been sacked in 2009 after the Swine Flu debacle
Here’s something for them to think about. How lots of the actions to protect us break international law.
