Trudeau Hints Canada Ready to Replace Russian Fossil Fuel Imports

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

h/t Breitbart; So long as everybody continues to agree Justin Trudeau is a green leader, Canada has strongly hinted they will be upscaling capacity to provide an alternative to Russia.

Trudeau pledges support for European nations to move away from Russian energy

‘We will be there to support, as the world moves beyond Russian oil and indeed, beyond fossil fuels, to have more renewables in our mix’

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the leaders of the U.K. and the Netherlands agreed Russia is no longer a reliable supplier of oil and gas, but Europe can’t yet shut off the taps and Trudeau was vague about how much Canada can deliver as a replacement.

Trudeau met with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in London Monday, as he begins a week-long trip to meet with European leaders. Canada, which imports a negligible amount of Russian oil and gas, banned imports last week.

Rutte said in the short term a ban simply isn’t possible for his country or many in Europe.

“We have to ensure that they don’t generate unmanageable risks to energy supplies in Europe, European countries and beyond, including Ukraine,” he said, speaking at a joint press conference with the three leaders in London. “The painful reality is that we are still very much dependent on Russian gas and Russian oil.”

Now we know what Trudeau plans to do with all that tar sands oil – export it to his eco-warrior friends in Europe.

In my opinion Trudeau’s commitment to green principles is a bit like his commitment to freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. As Trudeau once helpfully explained, “No country would find 173 billion barrels of oil in the ground and leave them there”.

I hope none of this triggers any of you to question Trudeau’s green credentials. After all, Canadian tar sands oil is not evil fossil fuel, it is well intentioned fossil fuel, a temporary transition measure until the windmills are ready.

First thing to get straight Eric is that is no tar in the oilsands. You been reading too much eco-propaganda.

And as Trudeau said today, he is hoping one day to send hydrogen to Germany presumably by a pipeline across the country from Alberta to the east coast, a distance of 4800 kms, a pipeline that does not exist. Given environmental reviews that would be in about 10 years. But who would pay for it? No rational company would go near it without absolute government backing from a federal government, indigenous nations and 7 provincial governments.

KH, close but not quite correct. The Athabasca ‘oil sands’ are technically bitumens with API viscosity between 6 and 8, containing about 18-20% true asphaltenes (tars). So very tarry albeit 80% not true tar. To flow in pipelines they have to have a diluent added. And to be usefully refined for gasoline, diesel, and jet kerosene they also have to first be hydrogenated from steam reformed natural gas. Researched it for ebook Gaia’s Limits, because needed to answer the question about recoverable reserves equivalent to conventional crude. Answer is about 20% using SAGD for that which is not strip mineable.

And then send it over the Atlantic by dirigible. What could go wrong w/that…

Using the tar sands is like doing a massive oil spill cleanup. Is that so bad?

My understanding of this resource is that it is a gift from nature – crude oil that bubbles up to the earth’s surface ready for mankind to dredge it up, separate the oil from the sand it has soaked through, and send off to be refined and used.

Not to worry, Granholm will take care us. Yikes!

Am I right in thinking that Trudeau used the same descriptive name for the truckers before declaring a state of emergency as Putin used as his excuse for invading Ukraine?

Trudeau said Canada is committing “to have more renewables in our mix”. Today, our Environment Minister explained Canada will be producing hydrogen and shipping hydrogen to Europe. When pressed on why not natural gas, his explanation was that the LNG transportation and terminals infrastructure would take too long to get in place.

No, none of the above is satire or parody.

Every time Justin has a thought the global IQ falls a point. Every time he gives his “honest” thoughts his nose grows. Every time he tries to help we suffer. Every time he is left unsupervised disaster follows. He wanted to be influential and now he can say that, at least in one respect, he succeeded. He joins the club of many past leaders who were ignorant, misguided, mentally unstable or just plain cruel.

In Justin-speak, saying we support you, means we can (will) do nothing to help you, but it makes a good photo-op for the Liberal news back home. As others have said, Canada has no export capacity on the East coast and very minimal offshore production. Additional Canadian oil supply is limited to what is available in Western Canada and what there is, would need to transit through existing pipelines or trains to the US gulf coast for export.

Trudeau was part of the reason Putin invaded. He saw weakness everywhere and still does. That is comparable to Imperial Japan and Germany in the 1930s seeing America as only good for making home appliances and other consumer goods. We don’t even make stuff this time around.

but Europe can’t yet shut off the taps and Trudeau was vague about how much Canada can deliver as a replacement.”

Vague“; A word that describes trudeau extremely well.
After all of his efforts to demonize fossil fuels, he vaguely pledges to send fossil fuel to Europe and UK. Right…

“Trudeau met with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in London Monday, as he begins a week-long trip to meet with European leaders. Canada, which imports a negligible amount of Russian oil and gas, banned imports last week.”

Canada “imports a negligible amount of Russian oil and gas“, yet trudeau vaguely bans oil and gas his country is importing?
A recipe to drive up fossil fuel prices causing Canadians to freeze.

trudeau imitates Biden’s ignorance on how his country functions.

The term “tar sands” is a pejorative used by eco-radicals. Bitumen is the correct term, as there is no tar in these “tar sands”.

It can’t be exported to Europe. It’s landlocked due to all the pipeline projects Emperor Trudeau has sabotaged.

The only thing Trudeau has to contribute is hot air. His promises aren’t worth a bucket of warm spit.
