Guest essay by Eric Worrall
According to Ipsos MORI, Climate Change concern has reached fever pitch in the UK, as the relentless BBC and establishment campaign to frighten ordinary people with stories of bushfires and heatwaves yields dividends.
Public concern about climate change and pollution doubles to a near-record level
Ipsos MORI’s Issues Index for August 2021 shows public concern about the environment has jumped sixteen percentage points over last month’s Index.
27 August 2021
- A third of the British public see the environment and climate change as a big issue for the country, making it the second-biggest issue
- COVID-19 remains the biggest concern but the level of worry drops further
- Public concern about the economy, NHS and education also dips from levels recorded in July
The August 2021 Ipsos MORI issues Index reveals spontaneous public concern about the environment has jumped sixteen percentage points since July. Thirty-two per cent mention climate change and pollution as a major issue for Britain, making it the second-biggest concern for the country. Fieldwork was conducted between 6 and 13 August, covering the launch of the Sixth Assessment Report of the International Panel on Climate Change.
This is the second highest-level of concern recorded about the environment since it was added as an option to the survey in 1988: in July 1989, when the highest temperature since 1976 was recorded at Heathrow, 35% mentioned environmental issues as a worry.
COVID-19 remains the biggest issue for Britain, however just 40% mention it as a big issue this month – down eight points from July and 35 percentage points below the highest score this year (75% in January).
…
I worry for my friends in Britain.
With a net contribution of 1.1% of global CO2 emissions, nothing Britain does to the British people can make a noticeable difference to global CO2.
On the international stage, the Biden administration is struggling with ongoing resistance to their planned trillion dollar climate expenditures. Other nations like Australia are openly defying the globalist push to shut down coal, and China is continuing business as usual, paying lip service but pretty much expanding coal capacity as fast as they can build the new plants.
COP26 will be a monumental failure, you can already smell the panic.
So what will British PM Boris Johnson do in the wake of a COP26 failure, to salvage his credibility with British voters as a climate saviour?
Surging British public support for climate action and an unexpected slight improvement in public finances could embolden BoJo to attempt the impossible – harsh climate taxes, hydrogen economy, offshore wind, banning gasoline, the full monty of loser strategies for reducing CO2 emissions.
The extraordinary cost this will impose on ordinary Britons already facing soaring fuel poverty could make the lives of poor people in Britain utterly unbearable.
The chance of there ever being a bushfire anywhere in the British Isles is less than zero. If someone ever started a wildfire, the afternoon rain would soon put it out.
Nicholas Tesdorf – maybe you were joking, but I, as a British person living in Britain, found your comment offensive. We have a considerable problem with wildfires in many areas of the country – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_United_Kingdom_wildfires is but one example.
In fact, the situation is worsening because we have the same idiotic notions in play that contributed to the devastation caused in Australia the other year – sensible land management, with the cutting of firebreaks to halt the spread – has been abandoned because “climate change”. And this affects some of our most beautiful areas so it is rather tragic and not a subject for levity.
As far as that main article goes, Boris Johnson has less than universal support for his net-zero push, despite this survey. The public is largely unaware of the costs – ground source heat pumps, electric vehicles etc. are ruinously expensive but one thing this article got right is that there is a constant stream in all media of doom and gloom about the climate and not a counterbalancing voice to be heard.
The people who can see past this narrative believe firmly that when the British public are faced with the bill, they will revolt. Having said that, one problem we have here is that there is no effective opposition to the current government. The incumbent party, the Conservatives, are usually the voice of reason, but they have become increasingly “liberal” and the Labour party is in the middle of self-destructing because it is obsessed with identity politics that are an anathema to its core working-class voters.
Like the US, our choices of government are very poor. And the world is a worse and more dangerous place because of it.
The Conservative Party aren’t listening to the public, Labour has gone suicidal and the minor parties have no support. The MSM does what it’s told. COP26 is going to be excruciating.
JF
I’m increasingly of the view, that the quickest way to end this climate non-science, is to encourage the politicians to commit their electoral suicide and go ahead with the climate non-science.
Tony Leatham, as a british person not living in Britain I’m offended that your are offended by what was obviously a joke about british weather.
British humour is often dark and totally irreverent to whether it is offensive or not.
I find your attempts to destroy our national treasure highly offensive, you need to stop it right now.
BTW That one liners was not even intended to be in the slightest bit offensive, so grow up and stop taking “offence” where none was intended. The world needs humour.
Thanks. We are never going to return to reality until we have a cultural insurrection against Woke Social Justice Warriors with hurt feelings.
Unfortunately it’s much worse than just woke social justice nonsense, though it is a part of the larger madness. The world is spiralling into an induced mass psychosis driven by collectivist (globalist this time) fear based propaganda. We have already reached the point where government bureaucrats are willing to kill animals in the name of “keeping people safe” (see Bourke Shire Council shooting dogs to prevent people from rescuing them). It is but a small ideological step from there to imprisoning people “to keep people safe”, then to lining them up along a ditch and shooting them.
Whether we pull back from the edge of the abyss is unclear. The way things are going here it’s likely to make Stalinist Russia look like a holiday camp.
From the WonkyPedia article you linked:
Over 7 square miles !!! Jeezus H Christ, it’s worse than we thought.
Living in Devon we have reports on our local BBC news program about Moorlands on fire quite regularly. They normally turn out to be either started by vandals or grockles having BBQs. So yes man-made climate change which could be avoided with out spending £trillions. Just need to educate pork.
Living in Southern California a seven square mile fire gets coverage only on the traffic report if it happens to break out near a freeway and causes traffic to slow down.
In NE Oregon there are bigger wheat fields.
Same in Az. A fire that is seven acres only gets mentioned if it creates a traffic jam on the highways.
Unfortunately, since Ed Milliband’s Climate Change Act was passed in 2008 it is the law that the UK MUST reduce carbon dioxide emmissions to by at least 80% compared to those of 1990 by 2050- regardless of the cost and damage it inflicts on the country.
The only way that we can escape this mess is to repeal Ed Milliband’s insane Act, but our politicians have no will to do so.
Martin, I have read, but cannot confirm, that the Parliamentary Bill allows for changes in the numerical targets to be unilaterally passed by the relevant Government Minister (maybe the Home Office. I can’t recall).
In short, it seems like any future government can change the targets once it becomes clear that they aren’t going to be met, should they feel the political need to do so.
Might this be a case of those weaselly Civil Servants doing something sensible when naive governments pass foolish laws that later governments will come to regret?
What is the penalty if it doesn’t happen?
Do you also have a law forbidding flooding?
You’re Offended? Really!?
Talk about a sense of humour failure ……
I, as a British person living in Britain find your claim of offence pathetic. It is clearly tongue in cheek, but you’re too desperate to be offended. Dry up.
You should try and learn how to be offended without making it an outrage. Not everything is worth flipping out over.
Just a suggestion!
er… there are frequent fires across the UK, especially on moorland.
I remember the hot summer of 76 principally for the constant smell of smoke as Surrey heathland went up.
Random example:
Fire rages across Surrey stockbroker belt | Daily Mail Online
Yes there are griff, farmers have always burned off the straw grass in spring to hasten new growth for grazing, its now been commercialised with a licence to burn required.
Fire breaks in forests have also gone in the name of profit, every commercialised forest used to have flame beaters hanging at the entrance tracks ,all gone, small water take ponds used to be included in forestry land ,all gone,
None of the above has anything to do with climate ,only maximising profit.
During that summer of 76 I was out yet again helping with fire beating and was in a fire break with several others. Bushes and small trees in front were exploding in flames so the beating was useless and too late and then the fire was behind us on the other side of the fire break. And we were fine.
And grouse moors have been regularly burned to provide for the new heather growth that the grouse chicks feed on. (I don’t know if this is permitted any more.)
Seeing as you are no longer a spring chicken, Griff, you should know this by now.
Yep you need a licence to burn ,which follows the environment agency’s take a cut ,when the conservative government brought in defra as a condition they had to be at least in part self funding,
So now when there’s a illegal grass/ moor fire its demonised by the press and the above agencies, no profit! For unlicensed burns.
You need a licence to burn of forestry brash.
Wow, those must be some big fires if you have to go back 45 years to find one that you could smell.
I have yet to see you post anything that is correct or true.I don’t know how you do that.
….and it takes 45 years back to find a random sample!
Not strictly true – prolonged hot dry periods in the past have given rise to moorland fires with smouldering peat for weeks.
But never on the scale of warmer climes, tis true…
My school had regular ‘brush’ fires as the main railway line ran past and the Steam engines would regularly set light to the bank. The near by New Forest would warn every year of the risk of fire because summers can be hot and dry and people smoke cigarettes. During the hot summer of 1976 there were huge blazes in the UK especially in the New Forest almost on a daily basis. I would cycle out and assist where possible with fire beating and in one case helping to get furniture out of a house that soon after went up in flames.
I recall a few years back that a large area of the hills to the north and east of Manchester were ablaze for a considerable peiod. Walking about Manchester was unpleasant because of the smoke haze from the hills some miles away.
From my son’s 21st floor flat the blazes were easily visible. They were all started deliberately or accidentally by humans, so you could call it anthropogenic hill fires.
I believe I am correct in saying that the blazes were worse becuase the controlled burning practised by gamekeepers for years had been banned to prevent pollution. Oh the irony!
There’s a post on Independence Daily about how the UK can fight climate change using Elton John Fashion Footwear. I recommend it to all those worried about the UK’s contribution to this year’s baking hot summer. *
The survey suggests that the concern of the British public is spontaneous. Nonsense! It’s the result of relentless propaganda led by the parliamentary Climate Change Committee under the leadership of John Selwyn Gummer, aka Lord Deben, one member of which is an expert in opinion manipulation. It has few if any reputable scientists.
JF
*Well, I would of course – I wrote it?
Not sure about links on this site, but a search on “Independence Daily Julian Flood” should find it.
I love the thought of COP26 being celebrated by lots of people in shocking pink four inch stack heeled boots.
JF
Eating Vegan food
Don’t worry, JF. They’ll find out what Glasgow in November is like.
This isn’t another of your ‘to remove the effect of global warming, stand on a brick’ articles is it Julian?
I am afraid the impact of the adiabatic lapse rate on ground temeperatures passes most people by.
I note the latest bleating from the Met. Office that ‘despite the UK summer being cold ,wet and traditionally miserable, it has in fact been the hottest on record’ (for single peak temperatures recorded somewhere near a lot of concrete).
Whatever happened to ‘weather is not climate’ ?
It’s as bad as Brexit when you realise that the combined forces of the Establishment are mounting an all out propaganda war to convince you of problems that dont exist.
And the anti-Brexit propaganda is up a notch or ten as well.
The Elton John stack heel boot solution to AGW is fun, but for me the Chihuahua of Doom one was the best illustration of how little importance we have.
Four inch boots and it’ll keep your head as cool as if UK went Net Zero tomorrow right up to 2032.
JF
Thanks for Gridwatch Templar. Its an invaluable resource.
The climate change propaganda in the UK is at an unprecedented level. No facts, just hype and scare-mongering.
Stay Calm Put Suncream On.
No, facts, facts and more facts.
Unfortunately facts don’t conform to the politically based expectations of climate skeptics.
You mean models, models and more (useless) models
And a big dose of faith
Griff I lived in the UK, I remember keeping the fire on 9 months of the year. Now I live in a place where the heating goes on about 2 weeks per year. So far I haven’t noticed lots of dead bodies in the streets.
LOL! My sis in Cape Town has snow on the mountains icy hail at sea level and has had to light the fire – it’s below 6°C!
Already snow in Austria I believe.
I myself personally glancing at my task bar can see that the local airbase is recording a miserable 15°C. Which unusually is also what the Met Office tells me it was going to be.
It seems that whatever caused whatever global warming we may or may not have had, has effed off somewhere else.
I am reminded of the time I attended a council meeting in May, to attempt to block a windmill planning application, and while the ‘experts’ waffled on about the ‘need to combat global warming’ the weather decided to dump a blizzard on the town. The public gallery was laughing it’s head off.
Leo, what was the result of the planning application?
Someone had invited AL Gore to attend, obviously.
(AL is notorious for bringing cold, snowy or wet weather with him when he attends worry-ins about the planet combusting.
Think Copenhagen CoP in 2009)
You talk about matters not having a clue of, or will you say, you know what facts are ?
“facts don’t conform to the politically based expectations of climate skeptics.”
As Galileo wrote, after citing a sentence like that, “but facts conform even less with the expectations” of the climate alarmists. (Sorry for any imprecision, I am quoting from memory)
I think you got the punctuation wrong there Griffy
Griff wouldn’t recognise a fact if it bit him on the bum.
Like the claim that all weather is unprecedented?
He is probably right. The exact same daily high and low to the hundredths place has probably never happened since thermometers were invented. 🙂
You have as much acquaintance with real facts as those of the Cargo Cult in New Guinea. You don’t see facts for what they are, but rather, for what you have come to believe they represent.
But even in this article, the ‘facts’ tell us that there is nothing to worry about, if you have the ability to think:
So…
1. It’s been hotter before the dreadful CO2 deluge from 0.028% to 0.038%.
2. The hottest in 1989 was at Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in the world, and getting busier every year, bar covid travel restrictions.
So not really much to worry about, it’s there?
Does no one think for himself any more in Britain. Does everyone wait for the latest announcement of Armageddon from the BBC now? Have the British finally turned into a collection of cucks, wimps and pussies? I thought Brexit would restore some of Britain’s pride. Apparently not.
Yes lots of us, but the MSM stops anybody speaking the truth from being heard or having any influence.
You’ll need to find some way around that impediment or your nation will die like mine is. Many of us survivors in Canada have small hope for any improvement. Good luck.
Canada, Australia and New Zealand. What the hell happened?
The climate Nazis took control without a fight.
People afraid to express their own observations, thoughts & opinions because “scientists say . . . ”
From about 1980, “scientists” took over the role of religious influence and authority.
“Heresy” was kept as a staple though.
Pot, kettle, black. Trudeau!
It looks like you didn’t bother to read the whole thread. I already acknowledged how Canada has degenerated. Trudeau is only the latest pustule infecting my country.
There was a hopeful story coming out of Canada today about protestors shutting down a campaign stop for the 3rd grade teacher in charge.
Thanks for the message of hope. I’ve virtually stopped reading the news.
Given the constant bombardment of climate change hysteria from virtually every “trusted” news source in the UK, I’m quite impressed that only a third have fallen for it.
I guess you need to look for some other way of being heard. It’s either that or they’ve won. Regaining a freedom is many times harder than retaining it.
It’s less than a third.
The actual question is:
“What do you see as the most/other important issues affecting Britain today?”
And the option is:
“Pollution / environment / climate change”
If you think that any of those three things is important you put a tick. Not necessarily the most important issue – it could be “other”.
Do I think that particulate pollution in city centres and water quality in rivers is important? Yes. That’s a tick.
But I’m very sceptical that AGW is of newsworthy impact.
Having said that, with the UK hosting COP26, do I think the national prestige is affected by our handling of environmental issues? Maybe.
The Ipsos MORI poll is rigged to boost the concerned number and get the headline they provide.
But the truth is – despite a Daily Climate Show on Sky News and every programme on the BBC – AGW is not a big issue to the British people.
I think there is another issue. Whilst many appreciate an unpolluted environment, few actually understand that almost all the time our cities have good air quality these days, and the few days when that descends to “moderate” are the result of accumulation due to still weather and temperature inversions – or the aftermath of Guy Fawkes or Diwali fireworks. Locations with higher levels of pollution are either point sources such as hospitals (a surprising amount of NOx) or planner created traffic jams that are worse than they need be.
The propganda makes many believe our air quality is declining when the reverse is the case: it has improved enormously on the back of environmental measures, and traffic now contributes little to the overall toll. In general much the same applies to our rivers, as we dump much less by way of industrial waste into them thanks to deindustrialisation. There are exceptions here, many due to the lax operation of the Environment Agency.
So the headline and storybare false! Imagine that.
COP 26 is just over 60 days away. Hold your ears. And nose.
I call the hype speeding up to hit the wall harder.
“The August 2021 Ipsos MORI issues Index reveals spontaneous public concern about the environment has jumped sixteen percentage points since July.“
I don’t believe that for a second, especially when you see things like this:
Concern about climate change and support for XR are not the same thing. I think it is possible to believe climate change is a serious issue, without believing a bunch of hypocritical self important dilettantes are an essential part of the solution. I know people in Britain who think XR are ridiculous, but who are deeply concerned about global warming.
That’s a fair point, and one I presumed somebody would make, but I stand by my opinion, if you look at the actual poll, instead of MSM headlines, this is definitely overhyped.
38% of the over 55s (and 42% of those aged 55-64) say it is a concern.
Basically those that still believe the BBC is the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
“… compared with 24% of 18-34s.”
And what is “concerned” anyway, do we have a definition?
…and also I’ve noticed that they lump in “pollution” and “environment” with climate change™ which is just dishonest.
“and also I’ve noticed that they lump in “pollution” and “environment” with climate change™ which is just dishonest.”
Agreed,
Wrong argument. half a century ago, a friend of mine, older and very anglophile, told me, before I left for my first stay in England: “Remember: a Brition never says “no” “.
From my own experience, I would add that a Briton also seldom says “yes”… Britons tend to avoid extremes, so Extintion Rebelion is rather abominable for a Briton, while “some climate change is a comfortable middle ground. (Note: I mentionned “Britons”, not “citizens of the UK”)
There is a quotation about diplomatic language:
If a diplomat says yes he means perhaps
If he says perhaps he means no
If he says no then he is not a diplomat.
Correct. We are not citizens but mere subjects. The court jester rules the country!
I did not intend to go that far… even though it is true. (No sarcasm; deep respect and gratitude for the lasting influence that I got from Britain and many Britons).
The trouble is, it doesn’t matter what is or is not true. What matters is what they can make the masses believe is true. More and more people I know are collapsing under the constant barrage of lies, half truths and gas lighting. Political correctness and fear are starting to dominate.
Increasingly turning into a nation of ” all right jacks” amongst all the things you mention, the majority just go with the flow, there is however a significant minority who don’t buy into the climate lie, no voice because the establishment along with MSM have blocked ,suppressed a voice.
The political corruption, is becoming more and more obvious, on all levels coupled with the contempt business and local authorities show to every day people, a increasingly difficult complex means to get a problem solved, the NHS is near collapse, I’ll give one latest example ,blood tests all but stopped, because there’s a shortage of test tubes,
There is little working democracy in the UK just a overriding political will ,the will of the people ignored eg like the article above makes out a 3rd is deemed the way to go ignoring 2/3rds .
What the UK needs is a leader be it on the street or political, for this to happen the conscience of the people needs to waken a movement if you like, there is no sign of this happening. Freedom of speech is gone until the MSM stop pushing these political agendas there will be no debate .
I really think the political classes including business show nothing more than contempt, disgust,a means to a end, for the majority of the population including the judiciary.
That’s what we need here in Canada, but the media immediately begins to gaslight him the moment he begins to become influential.
Not just in our countries, but everywhere.
“What the UK needs is a leader be it on the street or political,”
I think a lot of people got too hopeful about Mr Johnson, (I know the choices were terrible) who now seems to be, quite frankly, pissing all that good faith up the wall.
Yep he turned out to be a globalist , he appeared for years on shows such as
Top gear, satirical news shows, playing the bumbling fool, all the time building his portfolio, then he marries a greenie whispering into his ear, one thing that did not come across is he’s a dangerous bumbling fool , who’s sold the country out to globalist agenda, there by destroying democracy .
All might have been OK with Boris Johnson if he hadn’t met his GW and environmental fanatic wife who clearly makes him believe all the ridiculous rubbish put out by his Climate Change Committee, the BBC, the MSM and the Met Office. One can hardly expect any realistic change from his increasing support for the cause while he is committed to such a global warming and environmental activist,
Yes they do, check the comments sections of any/all media IF AND WHEN, they actually allow comments.
Anything even slightly controversial, they don’t
Starting with Tony Blair tripling the size of the UK Statute Book while in power,
He (in cahoots with Harriet Harman) criminalised everybody for getting out of bed in the morning
The Latest, I’m gonna link to Greenpeace of all places, is THE most hideous piece of Government paranoia and wild imagining so far possible.
If you or anyone, even just on-yer-tod, is deemed by somebody anybody else to be ‘making a noise’ – you are a Jail Bird
The UK is now 1930’s Germany meets 1984. It was/is a part of my rave yesterday about Smart Electricity meters and is, The Root Cause of why Electric Cars are required:
And thanks to the joys of ‘Modern Never So Good Technology’ and 24/7 electrikery, they can pick out individuals at random, at will at any time at any place, Smart meters means that ‘place’ is now inside your own home and the cars mean everywhere else.
The people answering this poll are politically correct ‘Tiger Feeders’ – fearful of being eaten.
If even Greenpeace are up in arms about ‘The Bill‘ (as is everybody outside of The Ruling Elite) we really are living ‘Interesting Times‘
Our leaders are perfectly completely paranoid and untrusting of the very people who put them into power
PS The UK burns because it has a lot of grassland. (Recall that Henry 8th cut all the trees and so triggered the LIA)
Grasses senescence (set seed and ripen) during the haha heat of UK summer and it is then that they burn.
As Alan Savory worked out, after k!lling vast numbers of elephants in order to Save The Forest, the elephants were actually a power for good.
The UK equivalent, as any livestock/grass farmer (also green-keepers) is not to let the grasses set seed. They then stay short-cropped, green and wet through summer and thus don’t burn.
UK needs to let some grazing animals loose – it is in fact how the Bison ‘managed’ the Great Plains with such success for as many 1000’s of years a they did
None of this is ‘difficult’ and plenty people know about it, but as skeptics know, Paranoid Ears, Minds & Eyes are deaf, dumb and blind ears, minds and eyes
(aka Magical Thinking occasioned by Chronic Chemically Induced Depression – but you knew that)
Peta,
The police forces already have around 9000 ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras in operation on roads and motorways in the UK and hold approximately 20 billion read records. They already know a great deal about people’s travelling habits although of course they say it is needed to help catch criminals and people driving without insurance.
Very interesting observations. I remember several social observers suggesting similar things beginning, when I lived 50+ years ago. The thing was, the public could still laugh at itself and the government. Monty Python was watching. “Yes Minister” was keeping people’s heads looking in the right direction. Political correctness had not completely taken over and the Left had not fully infiltrated everything.
We are still fighting the establishment propaganda. We may have technically left the EU, but the EU is behaving as if we have not, and our politicians and civil servants have once again decided they know what is best for us.
Only yesterday I read that the EU is going to hold an inquiry into whether or not a US hardware giant – NVIDIA – is going to be ‘allowed’ to buy ARM – who design the chips in all your mobile phones.
They have no jurisdiction in this matter.
I knew the EU was going to be a major problem back when it was in its infancy and called the European Common Market. It was always going to be a polite extension of the past 1500 years of European wars. It was never going to be good for Britain. Unelected bureaucrats who are exempt from recall by the people who pay their wages is going to be a short step to socialism.
Mr. Forbes, you have to remember that the UK pioneered the use of behavioural psychology in workplaces, media, advertising, business and other areas. These days most large organisations either use their own or commercially available behavioural psychologists to push their message. The UK govt and the BBC are two of the biggest users of behavioural psychology – the govt unit has recently gone independent (as the Behavioural Insights team or nudge unit) whilst the BBC has behavioural psychologists in most or all of the teams making programmes. They are there to push an agenda or ensure their message is rammed home. One of the things that has emerged from the widespread use of behavioural psychology is that it doesn’t alter behaviour patterns; but it can change or reinforce ‘insights’ either with confirmation bias, repetition or other means designed to resonate with particular groups.
Sadly yes. That combined with a social ethos of “getting along” and an abnormally high level of compliance with authority, Britain walked right into the modern, information era completely exposed in the way Orwell envisioned. Few people realize it was the British people he was portraying, not the Russians, the French or the Germans. They were wide open for group-think.
“So what will British PM Boris Johnson do in the wake of a COP26 failure, to salvage his credibility with British voters as a climate saviour?”
What he always does … lie, cheat, bumble, blame others, shut down opposition (by proroguing parliament illegally again ) & use covid again to create another diversion.
He has a Machiavellian Personality & is a totalitarian dictator in the making.
The damage his policy’s (on Brexit, Energy, Covid, Net Zero … ) have done to the UK are going to be felt for decades; if we were at war, he would be in the tower of London as a traitor & fifth columnist.
Yet a surprising number of British people still support him (38% in this poll )

(which proves you can fool a lot of the people most of the time) – but we get the politicians we vote for !!!
Vote for? Not me, not any more. They are carpeting Eastern England with solar panels.

Who on earth do we vote for?
There isn’t any UK political party with sensible policies
Also in Scotland the SNP are getting into bed with the Green party in order to get a majority in the Scottish Parliament.
The Green Party have just 7 MPs out of 129 in the Scottish parliament, yet will have the balance of power.
It looks to be a replay of the Tory/LibDem coalition in the UK parliament under David Cameron.
http://Www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9934375/As-Nicola-Sturgeon-joins-Greens-quest-independence-price-Scotland-pay.html
Interesting to note that the SNP indyref mantra of Scottish oil is still going strong and the Scottish Greens have shut up and are taking it. One whiff of power and the climate hypocrites toss their core principles right out the window.
Or do we get the politicians we as a society deserve??? I haven’t voted in a national election in years, apart from Brexit, because of the calibre or lack thereof of the candidates standing said election!!!
Putting it another way, two thirds of those surveyed haven’t fallen for the years of scaremongering.
In view of the relentless pushing of climate change on every television and radio programme it is interesting that two thirds of the British public did NOT see climate change as a big issue.
As regards Covid, the relentless reporting of the number of cases seems intended to create a climate of fear, even though the vast majority that progress to hospitalisation and death occur in the unvaccinated.
A bigger concern is the lack of police action on crime, except ‘hate crime’.
The lack of effective police action on the XR demonstrations in London, which have disrupted the lives of the general public and caused shops to lose a considerable amount of trade when they are struggling to recover from the effects of lockdown, has contrasted with the heavy-handed reaction to other demonstrations deemed to be not politically correct.
NHS hospitals have generally performed well, but now are having to deal with a massive backlog of other problems such as cancer and cardiac treatments as well as elective surgery such as hip replacement.
GPS however are getting a lot of stick in some areas where have made face to face appointments difficult or even impossible to get, preferring to do telephone consultations instead, or else advising the patient to go to their local hospital A&E department for investigation.
As far as education is concerned, the son of an acquaintance of ours was asked by his 10 year old son whether it was true that there were more than two genders, as this, along with climate change, was seemingly being taught as issues more important than the 3 Rs.
(Just to finish with an amusing tale told me by an 80 yr old lady, she asked a friend, also in her 80s, as to how she spent her time.
Doing the 4 Rs she replied.
What are they?
Reading, (w)riting and remembering rogering came the reply.)
“Reeling and Writhing of course, to begin with,’ the Mock Turtle replied, ‘and the different branches of arithmetic – ambition, distraction, uglification, and derision.” Lewis Carroll.
“International Panel on Climate Change”.
Oh, it’s suddenly become the “International” panel, no longer the “Intergovernmental” panel!!!
Where is this leading to I wonder??? It is still a bureaucratic non-scientific mess dominated by non-validated puter models programmed to give a desired output for political purposes!!!
Yes, it’s that type of sloppy attention to detail and indeed to the English language which bedevils so much of this debate. The conflation of the word ‘carbon’ with ‘carbon dioxide’ being the most egregious. Mixing up these 2 is as bad as turning ‘hydrogen’ into ‘water’.
I’m concerned with the climate changers we’ll have nothing left to eat unless we get back to coal and incandescent lights-

It’s in response to record climate change propaganda in Britain; with no large media organizations disputing the hysteria. 33% despite 33 years of tying media reports of a climate crisis which is demonstrably not happening in our bland and mild climate.
No, it is because the UK has an impartial and professional news service in the BBC. You can save your howls of protest – what are you putting against it – Fox News?
The BBC is partisan as everybody knows
Well except you
One thing about socialists, no matter what the country, they define “partisan” as being any opposition to their goals.
Look in the mirror.
I’m going out on a limb and guess that Simon actually believes he said something intelligible.
Exactly,
You are wrong. The BBC is the most trusted publication in the UK by people who consider themselves neither left nor right.
https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/risj-review/bbc-under-scrutiny-heres-what-research-tells-about-its-role-uk
Shall we start panto season early…. “oh no he isn’t!”
OK so what is a neural publication? Fox?
There are no neutral publications. However Fox is a lot closer to the center than the BBC has ever been.
At least Fox airs both sides more often then not.
BBC rarely presents anything other than various flavors of socialism/communism.
“There are no neutral publications. However Fox is a lot closer to the center than the BBC has ever been.”
You have said some funny things MarkW, but that… that right there … is the funniest.
Fox does have some commentators/reporters who do the whole fair and balanced thing. Brett Baier and Chris Wallace to name a couple, but then you have the likes of Tucker Carson. That is the Tucker Carslon who got off a slander case because the judge said….. “‘the general tenor’ of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not ‘stating actual facts’ about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in ‘exaggeration’ and ‘non-literal commentary.’ ”
She wrote: “Fox persuasively argues, that given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statement he makes.”
What’s more Fox supported this angle.
The BBC may not be perfect, but if you want news closest to the real story then I would choose them every time. They have a huge international reputation for quality. Second to name I would suggest. I know you don’t get it, but that says more about you than the BBC.
Well, it can certainly be trusted to toe the Climate Scientology ™ line, and trash any government even slightly to the right of Stalin, that is true.
“Well, it can certainly be trusted to toe the Climate Scientology ”
They report the science, I would suggest it is just you don’t like what the science is saying, so you blame/shoot the messenger.
The only people who ever proclaim themselves to be neither left nor right, are socialists who trying to pretend to be non-partisan.
“an impartial and professional news service in the BBC”
Don’t talk such bollocks !!
Come on griff , the BBC has a policy ” the science is settled ” there by killing any debate opposing view,
That griff is not impartial, professional.
They also believe that social science is also settled.
That’s why they only present the socialist point of view.
Same with their junior toady here in Canada, the CBC. Relentless alarmism and no other views allowed.
Needs to be completely defunded
Griffy is always a source of insight and amusement, as long as you ignore what he actually posts, of course! He is an example of the ‘perfect subject’ for the BBC’s behavioural psychologists – pliant, not very intelligent, gullible, weak willed and able to repeat, parrot fashion, whatever he is told.
Do you work for the BBC’s Complaints Department?
Hahahahahahahahahahahah,
I didn’t realise how much of a comedian you could be, griff!
LOL – thanks for the laugh – I thought you were serious for a second.
The Green Blob has literally poured Billions of dollars into a massive, coordinated propaganda campaign over Climate Alarmism since ~2015.
You have to remember that on/around 2014-2015, public survey after public survey showed to the Green Blob billionaires that public concern over CC ranked below UFOs and a zombie apocalypse. So they queued up the huge bankrolls for the climate scam. A propaganda campaign the likes of which the mankind has never experienced on a global scale.
It was, “Damn the science, push over the top Alarmist climate narratives” in an attempt to turn the failing climate scam around. A very sophisticated PR propaganda campaign, at all levels has now followed, with hundreds of millions funneled to political campaigns to push it to the people at ballot boxes.
And it is still largely failing because no one is giving up their cars, homes, and for the rich their private jets and multiple vacation homes.
And the fossil fuel industry has ploughed in even more into think tanks and lobby groups saying the opposite.
Fossil fuel goes in to my petrol tank
And it’s heavily taxed
Presumably when that’s gone you’ll be making up the shortfall
Poor griff, he actually seems to believe the propaganda he’s paid to spew.
That lie has been rebutted so many times, that only the terminally clueless still believe it.
I do feel sorry for him, he’s the classic brainwashed BBC watcher.for some reason I keep thinking one day griff will say,
” IM SORRY GUYS YOU WERE RIGHT”
They never do … they just go quiet.
References please.
One of the oil companies once gave Heartland around $10K to help fund a documentary that had nothing to do with climate science.
This is the sole acorn that the oil companies fund denial oak was grown from.
What they do, is accuse the other side of doing exactly what they are doing. So, to put it simply, if you want to know where the alarmists get most of their funding … see who they claim is funding the sceptics.
A sceptic might say that all the pressure on fossil fuel companies is a ploy to kill their share prices so that the super-rich can then swoop in and bag a whole lot of cheap shares.
And quite rightly so: climate change, in the form of extreme rain and flood, is already affecting the UK and damaging homes and infrastructure.
The Met Office confirms this:
Climate change continues to be evident across UK – Met Office
Yes it’s 18C
How will you cope? Maybe a model will help
The Met Office has repeatedly failed to confirm any damn thing Griffy. They can’t predict the weather more than 2-3 days in advance so my confidence in their ability to predict climate change is at zero. Find another source – this one’s broken and has been for years.
249yrs of Met Office data also confirms there is nothing exceptional going on in the UK climate –

2021 is the blue line (the hottest evah ??? )
Wouldn’t you talk about facts ? And why you don’t ?
It really is fascinating how stuff that has happened before, becomes unprecedented and proof of global warming.
LOL … can you please do a full blown alarmist rant … you’ll have me in stitches.
Polls and their very dubious results are for nudging public attitudes
Nothing more Only a fool would believe them
And this one tells us that two thirds of the UK don’t give a rodent’s rectum about Global Warming, despite all their desperate attempts to prove that people are concerned.
From the link to Iposo:
Mike Clemence, a researcher at Ipsos MORI, said:
So that’s despite it NOT being at “an historic high” because it has been higher in their polls.
The “researchers” conducting this poll clearly have a dog in the fight and are not to be trusted.
Their graphic shows the question to be :
That is not even proper English. Neither does it show how the respondents get to answer or how that is scored.
We all know that you can get whatever answer you want from surveys depending upon how and what you ask. I give ZERO credence to any poll which does not CLEARLY declare its methods.
They are just trying to create “momentum” for COPOUT26.
In October, 2020 IPSOS/MORI changed the category from “Pollution/Environment” to “Pollution/Environment/Climate Change”. The figures have been increasing ever since.
A climate report on the MSM radio the other day stated that temperatures were at a level “unprecedented in the last 2000 years”. Where I come from, something is unprecedented, or it isn’t. There is no time frame.
Concern about climate change politics not the climate change itself which the UK population has largely worked out is a con
A question from distant Australia. There is frequent chat that the BBC is biased and not trustworthy. The free market answer to this is to set up in opposition. What is the success rate of free thinkers who have tried this? Are there any starters operating today? Geoff S
GB News? Its doable, just. But unless you spend time in the UK it is difficult to grasp the sheer omnipresence of the BBC. Far more so than the ABC. Some places the only terrestrial signals you can receive are multiple BBC related channels, on radio and TV.
I seriously doubt that. FM band is only about half BBC, and I cant think of any TV transmitter that doesnt carry at least one commercial multiplex.
Anway, I will be listening to a BBC channel all day. Test Match Special. It’s the only BBC I still listen to. They generally mention ClimateChange™ less than ten times in an afternoon!
I watched Sky Sports. And it didn’t take all day.
If climate change causes more humidity does it mean that swing bowling will benefit?
Perhaps CO2 explains the wonder that is Jimmy Anderson?
The BBC are losing licence payers daily watch this link and the rest of the guys videos
https://youtu.be/-yrwUBjtdtY
Opposing view news channels ,there isn’t one, or do you mean editorial comment they are all much like for like, we can get RT NEWS which does have a different take on subjects,
Otherwise its YouTube media ( and in this case banned) on YouTube uk column. Org
What about GB News?
Never watched it , I did see the controversy surrounding it not to long ago, which I took as overhyped by unseen players, it does or did sound like a good alternative news channel.
It’s tough to compete with someone who has unlimited amounts of other people’s money to spend.
The Biased Brainwashing Cult take a very biased view of the law … where the law says they should be impartial, they ignore it, but when the law says they have to be paid off to watch freeview, they suddenly think it’ s a law that has to be enforced using draconian measures. Most young people never took up the habit of being brainwashed by the Biased Corp, but there is still a substantial number of older people who continue to watch the stinking pile of BS.
It is a double con.
Governments to keep population in control use various methods of frightening people with an enemy that can be only defeated by great sacrifice somewhere in a distant future.
Those are methods that Communists used in East Europe for decades, with fervent indoctrination in schools from day one to the application for job at any age.
When people realise that treat is ‘virtual’ and con is real the revolution ensures. It will be same with the climate change, but cost is generations of psychologically damaged youngsters.
The problem is that as Democratic Europeans we never developed the cynicism towards the state controlled media that the Eastern European SovBloc peoples did.
People are actually believing in this media induced panic.
I hope you are right, but lockdown has already created something of a mental health crisis in the UK, and with FUD being blasted at the benighted population over Brexit, COVID and Climate Change it’s a wonder we haven’t all topped ourselves.
“COP26 will be a monumental failure, you can already smell the panic.”
I wish you were right! But I fear the BBC, media, rebels and politicians will start the BIG unprecedented media fear mongering manmade climate change campaign. Glasgow 26 will be a success. This is all about fear and control – forget science and climate.
Unfortunately the side effect is, that democracy is in very danger, because one part of the population takes control by legislation that give them total control to do what ever.
Goodbye UK – you are on your way to destroy your self, together with your former friends EU and US. UN will try to take lead, but they can’t manage China.
all the media and participants celebrated the tremendous success of Paris ; altho nothing was accomplished and no goals have been met to slow emissions or temperatures .and the island nations whose imminent disappearance were touted to leverage passage are still high and dry . you can bet Glasgow will be a similar smashing success .
Glasgow in November isn’t exactly Cancun….
The UK has a population of 67 million and 39 million middle class, powered by :
China has a population is 1,400 million (1.4 billion) and 880 million middle class, powered by:
The talk of the UK exporting CO2 is meaningless because it is always stated without context or scale. The UK’s 39 million middle class is dwarfed by not only China’s massive soon to be 1,000 million middle class but also India’s 300 million middle class, as well as the enormous differences in power generation.
Haha – The Ipsos Mori wokerati are always trying to make us think that we should be scared. It is absolute rubbish; noone I know has changed their view one iota of late.
And yet everyone I talk to thinks climate chance is a load of BS. I’m very wary of polls saying otherwise.
Sure is a good thing CO2 does not and cannot cause global warming or any kind of climate change.
Most climate change fear these days is being generated by bushfires in countries all over the Northern Hemisphere. In the countries concerned bushfires are in there hundreds virtually none of the caused by climate change. As in Australia the summer before last, most would have been lit by people. Probably climate change enthusiasts judging by the sheer number and the coming COP26.The following does away with the climate change claim.
https://quadrant.org.au/magazine/2020/04/bushfires-climate-change-and-logic/
It is apparent that opinion polls are driven by MSM activity. It is inevitable that with the up and coming talkfest hitting all the headlines and a week of XR protests that the public are simply reflecting the most recent panic that the press has chosen to promote.
We had a spate of fires in the Pennines a few years back. I remember walking around Manchester in a smoke haze from the fires probably 10 miles away. Those fires lasted for weeks sporadically. They were all started deliberately and had sfa to do with global warming, climate change, climate wierding, global heating or whatever they want to call it.
If you want to know the truth, put “ipsos mori” into Google translate and click Latin language. That is informative.
Pity the poor Climate Taliban, and the constant uphill struggle they face. They need to not only lie, but keep ramping up the size of the lies, as in their “Red Alert” now. How can they possibly top that? I don’t know, but they’ll think of something, heroes that they are. But they also have to create the illusion that they are winning, because people tend to be herd animals, and don’t want to go against the herd. So, they have to lie about that too, pretending to do “surveys” or “polls” which “show” that they are winning. It really is a daunting task they face, with the constant fear that will all come tumbling down, and they along with it. And now they face the spectacle of COP26, which is doomed to fail, but they will have to lie about that also, and claim it was a “success.
So pity the poor Climate Taliban in their epic struggle against truth and science itself. It sucks to be them.
“the size of the lies, as in their “Red Alert” now. How can they possibly top that ?”
A pink transgender alert ?
Climate Taliban
I like that.
Religious zealots seeking to rule by force and take everyone back to the Middle Ages
And then there’s the Taliban who moderate in comparison 🤣🤣🤣
Climate concern is at a record high? Does that mean that one in 10 people is now willing to spend $10/yr instead of $5?
A third of the British public!!! Wow, that’s a landslide!
Hey, it’s still summer. 🙂
People in the UK are worried about the heat? In July, average min 16C, average max 23C, and in Jan 2-8C. With 1150 mm of rain per year.
It’s spin to counter the recent tidal wave of British people calling bullshit on climate posts on social media, especially if they features Prince Charles.
So despite 40 years of propaganda from the Misleadia, spear-headed by the BBC and the Guardian, only:
Or put another way two-thirds of the British public see the environment and climate change as no biggie.
There’s hope yet for us Brits
There is an increasing disconnect between these supposed “opinion polls” and reality. Almost certainly this is because those who are most sceptical of the utter rubbish we get on climate, are increasingly sceptical on a whole range of other public issues and so are moving away from the channels that opinion pollsters use.
