Former Vice President Joe Biden said Sunday night that there will be “no new fracking” projects if he wins the presidency in 2020.

Biden promised during CNN’s Democratic debate in Washington, D.C. to stop new fracking projects after his presidential rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders, drilled the former vice president for not being tough enough on the oil industry.

Biden also suggested that he can transition the country away from fossil fuel-powered transportation and toward “high speed rail, taking millions of automobiles off the road. Making sure we move in a direction where no more drilling on federal lands.”

Biden made similar arguments during a December Democratic debate, telling moderators and audience members that he is willing to sacrifice thousands of blue collar jobs in the fossil fuel industry to tackle climate change.

“The answer is yes,” Biden said in response to a question about such a sacrifice. (RELATED: Biden Says He’s Willing To Sacrifice Hundreds Of Thousands Of Blue-Collar Jobs In Oil And Gas)

“The answer is yes, because the opportunity, the opportunity for those workers to transition to high paying jobs, as Tom [Steyer] said, is real. We’re the only country that’s taken great crises and turned them into enormous opportunities,” Biden added.

The former vice president went a step further at a Dec. 30 town hall in New Hampshire.

Biden spoke about “holding them liable for what they have done, particularly in those cases where your underserved neighborhoods and … you know the deal,” at the town hall, referring to what should be done about oil executives.

You still have to generate energy for HSR.

Ask him how he is going to do that.

It will not be by windmills, I suspect……

High-speed rail is an economic disaster in most cases. Look at most European railways – they are recipients of mountains of state cash and cannot ever seem to balance the books. Highspeed rail only makes sense on a couple of very short, very high-frequency corridors and those a few, very few. You can always trust a politician to find a way to waste your money.

“High-speed rail is an economic disaster in most cases”

An absurd take. Train is losing money IN GENERAL. Almost all lines (fast or slow) are subsidized. A lot.

God help us in the US if one of these clowns gets elected in 2020 and appoints Obama- and Clinton- era religious zealots to cabinet, staff and more deep state positions.

China will have won.

Sounds like Biden has assured that there is no fracking way he will win Ohio or Pennsylvania.Or any state in the midwest. Keep America Great Again. Four more years! Still not tired of winning.

We can build wooden boats and cotton sails for our Navy. I live 1 hour drive from rail which has an east bound and a west bound once day around 3 in the morning.

My company has 4 euro and one Japanese rail company as clients. (We helped Enron get into wind)

Bottom line energy per passenger mile is worse for rail than air or Suvs. Unless your train is almost full and your big SUV is almost empty

Trains are very heavy and takes a lot of energy to get them up to high speed. Check Boston Big Dig cost overruns with Cali train to nowhere.

French historical “TGV” (high speed train) is almost 300 tons for almost 300 passagers (and that’s because (allegedly) the unique design made it small and light weigh), which is nice for those not doing difficult divisions.

Even CNN should be able to do that computations. (I think.)

“CNN’s Democratic debate”

Chris White, if you’re reading this, it should be “Democrat debate”, not Democratic.

When Bidden was 21 the Japanese bullet train was big deal. Like most people his views where formed when he was young. High speed rail will go the way super sonic airplanes. Speed was important when being in transit was like being in jail. Now we’re all connected. The future is autonomous individual transport in a 3 dimensional road infrastructure. A little slower but it is point to point and who cares about slow if you’re watching a movie or taking a nap?

What’s the future of anti terrorists controls?

Will trains be exempt from the nonsense?
