British environmental activist George Monbiot: “It’s by far and away the greatest cause of habitat destruction, the greatest cause of wildlife loss, the greatest cause of extinction, greatest cause of soil loss, greatest source of fresh water use. It’s one of the greatest causes of climate breakdown, bigger than transport.” …
“We need to act as drastically within that sector as any other sector to prevent the collapse of our life support systems and what that means, above all else, is getting out of livestock farming is really shutting down animal farming altogether, because that has massively disproportionate impacts on the living planet, and we need to switch towards other sources of food plant-based diets which are far more efficient, far lower environmental impacts.”
“It’s a bit like leaving fossil fuels in the ground unless we do that. We’ve really got very little chance indeed of preventing this domino effect of system collapse right across systems which basically makes the planet uninhabitable. So eating meat and milk and eggs is an indulgence we cannot afford.”

On Ireland state-run TV – RTE – Prime Time program – July 19, 2022 – Miriam O’Callaghan
Rough Transcript:
RTE Host Miriam O’Callaghan: George has a big emphasis on agriculture and how agriculture needs to cut its emissions. And I know it’s an issue you feel very strongly about. You’ve said that agriculture is arguably the most destructive industry on Earth. Explain and do you still believe that George?
British environmental activist George Monbiot: “It’s by far and away the greatest cause of habitat destruction, the greatest cause of wildlife loss, the greatest cause of extinction, greatest cause of soil loss, greatest source of fresh water use. It’s one of the greatest causes of climate breakdown, bigger than transport. One of the primary causes of water pollution and of air pollution. So it’s right at the top. Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot to say land use, the biggest issue of all it’s by far and away the greatest form of land use that humans inflict on the planet which means all that land is land. which can’t be used for wild ecosystems.
And well, obviously, we need farming, we need to minimize those impacts. We need to act as drastically within that sector as any other sector to prevent the collapse of our life support systems and what that means, above all else, is getting out of livestock farming is really shutting down animal farming altogether, because that has massively disproportionate impacts on the living planet, and we need to switch towards other sources of food plant-based diets which are far more efficient, far lower environmental impacts. But also switch out of farming altogether to produce protein-rich foods, which we can do through precision fermentation – brewing microbes.
RTE Host Miriam O’Callaghan: I can hear farmers all over the small country of ours, shocked and perhaps screaming at their televisions because they say are you saying all animal farming in your opinion, really needs to stop?
Monbiot: Yes, it does. It really does. It’s a bit like leaving fossil fuels in the ground unless we do that. We’ve really got very little chance indeed of preventing this domino effect of system collapse right across systems which basically makes the planet uninhabitable. So eating meat and milk and eggs is an indulgence we cannot afford.”

Obvious nut case. Not worth spending much time on, other than to illustrate such.
Unfortunately, politicians listen to environmental nutcases and are in the process of taking our resources off of us.
So-called environmentalists have been complaining about cows and their impact on water supplies for some time. One of the things that these ‘experts’ overlook is that cows can be grazed on land that is unsuitable for intensive mechanized agriculture, and the cows will bring themselves to water, obviating the need for the sort of extensive irrigation needed by many forms of agriculture.
Why would MonIdiot, an environmentalist (loosely at best), know anything about climate?
This useful crackpot is trying to make believe that cattles in a grassland (there were as many if not more 150 years ago) is endangering the planet while Gate & Co are pushing for an industrial chimical fake meat and other synthetic food complements mass production.
I smell a scam.
What about shutting down climate activism, and all that it’s responsible for ? And then using all that eco-green money for useful things ..
Agreed, but how?
The WEF and Davos crowd should cease flying in their private jets and use Zoom for their conferences, also change their diet to the one they are wanting to force us to adopt, viz Veganism.
Think of all the lobsters, foie gras geese and beef cattle saved.
Also no wine as the fermentation process produces CO2.
Where is the proof that ‘Animal farming is one of The Greatest Causes of Climate Breakdown’ ??

Perhaps Monbiot should consider the climate change “emissions” from millions of 30 tonne dinosaurs around 90 million years ago before raving on about the humble 500kg cow.
If you leave the “ecosystem” alone you get weeds and then trees, good luck eating those.
I wish I could figure out why people listen to this jackass. This is not an enlightened thinker, this is a nutbag. He has produced enough uninformed claptrap to win the prize for misinformation guru. He is the mouth piece for some of the most destructive and confusing public pronouncements of the 21st century so far. He is dangerously messed up in the head.
In Ireland a doctor turned Radio presenter, who has misled the public on medical matters – which are her field of expertise – can be trusted on her climate views. When one hears her political pontificating, a discerning person recognizes why. It is “horse manure” to quote an old broadcaster colleague of hers who was booted for being too honest.
‘Agriculture has got off lightly’ (on emission targets)
Vegans.
The truth is the wealthiest globalist useless breathers want to shut down animal farming so as not to use THEIR land to feed us “useless eaters.”
I gather Mr. Monbiot does not own leather shoes or belts. Nor does he drink milk or eat cheese, etc.
Just another likely grifter, grandstanding his way through life.
I just cant believe anyone could spout so much obvious twaddle as this. Cattle merely take the place of Bison and Aurochs, from which they are descended, in the environment. Farming them on grass, as we do almost 100% in the uk (some beet is fed them too) is replicating a tens of thousands of years old ecological balance between ruminant and prairie.
The real climate crisis is just around the corner if we keep doing what we’re doing…
just around the next corner….. well, the next corner…..just over that hill….the next hill….
just around the next corner, I promise….well not this corner, but the next one and the next and the next……
I’ll bet this greenie wants us to eat bugs, like Bill Gates does.
But won’t be including it in his own diet any time soon.
Pot calling kettle as I do wear reading glasses, but I tend to distrust anyone with very powerful prescription lenses.
These people can literally not see the big picture, so I feel it can cloud their thinking processes.
I also ‘love’ the way clearly incorrect myths get reported as hard science for decades.
“Cattle need masses amount of water for every kilo of meat!”
Conservation of mass? A kilo of meat is still only a kilo. It is not holding masses of water. The water, when used, is processed through the animal and then exits the system as urine, sweat and other discharges. It is not locked into the cow.
Some of these people are either deliberately pushing open lies to suit their own objectives or are really so low in basic mental processes that they shouldn’t be allowed near machinery.
RTE are the mouth piece of the Irish Government, so liberal and WOKE and it’s destroying the Island and no one can or will stand up to it, they are completely brainwashed by the media and big tech. The Irish Government are bought and paid for by Soros, Controlled by the WEF and the UN and EU, there is no hope for us.
Irish People are Brainwashed 100% by the RTE and the WOKE Media.
All this climate nonsense is in the news now almost daily.
Funny, ever since Trump left office no one talks anything negative about the biden admin yet Trump was daily bashed in our media. So this shows what political side they’re on and support.
Ireland has so much USA Big tech companies and they all have agendas and control us too.
