Much like in the Netherlands, Justin Trudeau is bringing in a nitrogen emissions cap that will absolutely decimate Canadian farming.
In December 2020, the Trudeau government unveiled their new climate plan, with a focus on reducing nitrous oxide emissions from fertilizer by 30% below 2020 levels by 2030.
“Fertilizers play a major role in the agriculture sector’s success and have contributed to record harvests in the last decade. They have helped drive increases in Canadian crop yields, grain sales, and exports,” a news release from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reads.
“However, nitrous oxide emissions, particularly those associated with synthetic nitrogen fertilizer use have also grown significantly. That is why the Government of Canada has set the national fertilizer emissions reduction target, which is part of the commitment to reduce total GHG emissions in Canada by 40-45% by 2030….”

Bexte quotes a report from Fertilizer Canada
It is estimated that a 30% absolute emission reduction for a farmer with 1000 acres of canola and 1000 acres of wheat, stands to have their profit reduced by approximately $38,000 – $40,500/ annually.
In 2020, Western Canadian farmers planted approximately 20.8 million acres of canola. Using these values, cumulatively farm revenues from canola could be reduced by $396M – $441M on an annual basis. Wheat famers could experience a reduction of $400M.

Of course, reducing nitrogen emissions released by fertilizer crucial to the survivability of the agriculture sector isn’t the only target of Trudeau’s government. Every part of the economy has been negatively impacted by Trudeau’s climate agenda.
On April 1 — the same day he gave himself a raise — Trudeau decided to go ahead and jack up the carbon tax by an additional 25%, consequently increasing the price of practically everything.

If Canada goes down this route they will have serious yield losses.
When the prairies were first ploughed up they had a residue of hundreds of years of fertility built up under grassland which initially sustained wheat yields without fertiliser inputs.
However once this fertility had been used up it has become necessary to get available nitrogen either from legumes or manufactured nitrogen sources such as urea and ammonium nitrate.
Fertiliser prices have gone through the roof over the past 18 months and are now getting towards £1000 per tonne. No farmer is going to waste such a costly input, and if anything the yield/response cost curve will result in less nitrogen fertiliser being applied which will reduce wheat yields.
Legumes can fix nitrogen but from personal experience ‘organic’ systems in the UK result in significantly lower yields of wheat. 1.5 tons per acre as compared to 3.5 tons plus in conventional systems.
The end result if reducing the use of nitrogen fertilisers becomes widespread globally: lower yields with attendant social problems.
I can’t see China or India cutting the use of nitrogen fertilisers. They have too many mouths to feed.
Do these idiots not know that air is 70% nitrogen?
Oh no, we lost 8% of our nitrogen? When did that happen?
The objective, of course, is to control and reduce the number of humans. In many ways progressives have not changed since their eugenics days.
This is really bad news for Canada and elsewhere. Resist it.
I do not know of any responsible, experienced agronomist who would support this plan if no excuse could exist for it. Agronomists, please argue here if you disagree.
A pattern is emerging with countries like Sri Lanka, Holland, Canada and now my homeland Australia starting to align. The pattern involves national leaders pulling this major, critical nitrogenous fertilizer plan seemingly out of thin air, not much if any prior debate, just ‘Do as I dictate or else’ The ‘or else’ can mean police and/or military firing real bullets into the protest crowds.
Why are these leaders condemning innocent people to death by planned starvation or gunshot? Surely there are laws to discourage national leaders from killing innocents for ideology? Do these leaders not know that they could go to jail for life?
The persistence and coordination they display points to a driving source, a person or persons telling these leaders what to do, or else. It is hard to imagine that such a coordinated plan does not exist. If people think that the plan and its ultimate planners are wrong or evil or whatever, the fist step for effective resistance is to identify them and have them admit their complicity.
That should be a main task for followers of climate change, that ‘existential crisis’. Do not bother so much for the time being with lesser aspects of climate change, try to devote your main efforts to establish beyond doubt who is at the top of this Ponzi scheme, who is calling the shots to these national leaders. Not just hearsay, what is vital is written or spoken evidence from the people at the hub.

Global warming hasn’t caused the food shortages they were hoping for so I guess they have to cause it somehow.
So what else is new here? During the past three decades various Canadian governments have tried to implement ten different climate/emissions reductions plans and every one of them fell short of its target. The reason is simple: neither governments, industries, businesses, nor consumers ever intended to make the type or operational or lifestyle changes necessary to make these plans work, and they’re just as unlikely to do so in future. They’ll just have an adverse effect on one economic sector or another before being abandoned and another being adopted.
Trudeau et al care nothing for the farmers or the consumers because they have nothing to worry about. As the ruling elite, they’ll NEVER go hungry.
Right up until they are lined up against a wall.
I would like Trudeau to tell us exactly how much would his program lower global temperatures, how much will it cost, and what will be the effect on global food supplies? With the war going on in Europe, this does not seem like a very good time to be doing any of this.
Watermelons living in cities should not be allowed to have any influence on farming practices. They have zero idea of what they are talking about. Much like the Yale Professor who told those against the truckers protest in Canada to go let down high pressure truck tyres. Advice that disappeared very rapidly from her Twitter feed when someone put up a video of what happens when a high pressure truck tire blows out.
“They have zero idea of what they are talking about.”
There’s a meme going around about everyone growing one crop (on their apartment balconies, I guess) and sharing with others and then everyone can eat for free. People defend this saying “it would work if we all tried”. They have no idea what it takes to grow enough food to feed a family.
Are we sure that Castro’s Son actually understands politics?
You know, being able to read the room and then lie through your teeth to claim you always supported the current consensus and they need to go back to their homes so you can champion their cause in parliament?
So – the room as it stands:
Sri Lanka: went organic, food production crashed, angry mobs chased President out of his own palace.
the Netherlands: plans to screw farmers. Farmers react with massive tractor rallies. Reports of shots being fired by police and acts of violence.
THAT is the room.
Hope to see the PM Castro’s house swarmed by the populace, enjoying his pool and gym like the Sri Lankans are at the moment.
truly a dope is a claus schwab young leader wef grad

The greatest fertolizer emissions in Canada come from politicians.
Yeah, our Liberals aren’t so good with numbers. But luckily, they don’t care! The Trudeau government is the worst in the history of the country. We may actually never really recover from tis government. The debt and disastrous policies will damage us for decades. Can anyone suggest a better place to go? I’m 65 and have 2 businesses here but I’m still willing to leave the country of my birth because I don’t feel at home here anymore, due to the rank stupidity of our leadership.
Ditto in the UK.
Sri Lanka’s troubles started two years ago when farmers were told to cut using artificial fertiliser. Mass civil unrest and Prime Minister and other key Govt. people resigning and appear to be hiding from the mob. Go woke go broke
If greenhouse gasses were causing significant warming, then the best policy for Canada would be to increase emissions. 90% of their population lives within 100 miles of the US because the rest of the country is too cold.
Please help me out. .I have arguments with my organically inclined friends about “natural” versus “chemical” fertilizer. I believe that since potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen are elements there can be no “artificial” fertilizer, unless you’re an alchemist. The difference is the source material and the methods used for extracting the elements.
Is there ANY difference between the two types besides a consistent product which is easier to apply more uniformly in controllable amounts ( in the case of “chemical fertilizer”)?
Not being rhetorical here, am I missing something?
One year of chemistry, James Monroe high school 1974 /75.

do you people actually believe that trudeau decides anything.. ANYTHING aside from his haircuts and choice of toothepaste?..oh, he decided to raise the carbon tax on the same day he took a pay hike, do-do-doo.. the president of the Liberal Party and his corporate backers have the sway my fellow canadians!
