Michael Mann, distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Pennsylvania State University, said this would be the last IPCC assessment that can make a real difference in policy terms, before we exceed 1.5C and the ambitions of the Paris agreement.
“Climate change is now causing amplified weather extremes of the sort we’ve been witnessing this summer – droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, superstorms,” he said. “The impacts of climate change are no longer subtle. We see them playing out in real time in the form of these unprecedented extreme weather disasters.”

Admittedly, Paris is probably the last chance to get the necessary emissions reductions off the ground – if we had started 15 years ago, the necessary change in the energy system could have been more gentle. The earth has warmed up by around one degree since the beginning of industrialization, another half a degree is already safe. So it is clear that there is little room for maneuver.

I wonder if Mann will get to issue the COP27 climate last chance warning? He seems to enjoy it.
This won’t end
It is distressing that charlatans like Mann, get so much traction for “predictions” or “projections” or whatever you want to call them, that never come true and that don’t match observations. But charlatans across the board seem to be doing well nowadays no matter what their chosen scam.
Of course our fake news media props them all up. And our education system almost guarantees that few are able to logically reaon for themselves and evaluate evidence and data. But they are good little sheep…
Just the usual hockey shtick from the alarmist in chief.

Just as they are a reminder of what has happened repeatedly in the past when CO2 was 285 ppm and global temperatures about a degree C lower, because these events are always happening and always will. The fact that there are people calling themselves scientists who claim any extreme event is foreshadowing of the end of the world just means the term “scientist” has come to mean confidence trickster for many.
That smug beady-eyed face hiding an apparently uneducated and undisciplined brain always gives me a sense of disgust. Anyone who really cared about science and honesty would have admitted their fraud long ago and slithered away to repent.
Wait a minute. I’m finding it difficult to keep up.
So…is weather, climate today? Or is weather, not climate today?
I think it depends on whether it is hot or cold, at the time, as to how it is decribed. It’s weather if it’s cold, and it’s about climate if it is hot.

With the CRU emails having been examined, it seems that some people—mainly techies—are really starting to dig into the data files. These files are, as far as we can tell, temperature data, modelling results and other such useful files, i.e. these are the files produced and worked on by the CRU teams, as well as considerable amounts of information on—and code from—the actual computer modelling programmes themselves.
In other words, these are the guts of CRU’s actual computer models—the data, the code and the applications.
And they are, by all accounts, a total bloody mess.
