Michael Mann Issues Traditional COP26 Last Chance Climate Warning

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Following on from his “last chance” warnings in 2015, another 2015 and 2020, Michael Mann wants us to understand that COP26 really is our last chance to address the climate crisis.

World’s climate scientists to issue stark warning over global heating threat

IPCC’s landmark report will be most comprehensive assessment yet as governments prepare for pivotal UN talks in November

Fiona Harvey Environment correspondent
Mon 9 Aug 2021 03.00 AEST

The fires, floods and extreme weather seen around the world in recent months are just a foretaste of what can be expected if global heating takes hold, scientists say, as the world’s leading authority on climate change prepares to warn of an imminent and dire risk to the global climate system.

Michael Mann, distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Pennsylvania State University, said this would be the last IPCC assessment that can make a real difference in policy terms, before we exceed 1.5C and the ambitions of the Paris agreement.

“Climate change is now causing amplified weather extremes of the sort we’ve been witnessing this summer – droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, superstorms,” he said. “The impacts of climate change are no longer subtle. We see them playing out in real time in the form of these unprecedented extreme weather disasters.”

This is a followup to Michael Mann’s last chance warning in 2015;

klimaretter.info: Professor Mann, a new climate agreement is to be concluded in Paris in December . Isn’t it already too late for that? Is it still physically possible to limit global warming to a maximum of two degrees Celsius?

Michael Mann: Yes, of course! Admittedly, Paris is probably the last chance to get the necessary emissions reductions off the ground – if we had started 15 years ago, the necessary change in the energy system could have been more gentle. The earth has warmed up by around one degree since the beginning of industrialization, another half a degree is already safe. So it is clear that there is little room for maneuver.

Mann’s warning about the 2016 election;

“This will be a make-or-break presidency as far as our ability to avert a climate change catastrophe,” says Michael Mann, meteorology professor and director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University, whose “hockey-stick” shaped graph warned of sharply rising emissions and temperatures.

I wonder if Mann will get to issue the COP27 climate last chance warning? He seems to enjoy it.

He will be giving “last chance ” warnings for decades to come, the problem is that you can’t fix stupid and when you add liar, and fraud to the mix you have the Mikey Mann tradition.

August 8, 2021 5:49 pm

Michael Mann, distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Pennsylvania State University, hasn’t published any science at all since his work on lanthanide ceramics in the early 1990s.

Climate models are unverified, unvalidated, and physically useless.

The global air temperature record is so riddled with systematic measurement error as to be climatologically, well, useless.

Proxy paleo air-temperature reconstructions have no distinct physical meaning at all.

What else has he done?

Distinguished alright, but not for doing science.

The unfortunate Mann, a serial litigant, just keeps on losing. Having now included every type and intensity of weather as harbingers of the last days, he is fast running out of shock and awe. But there’s always a last chance, always another rent-seeking wind turbine to save the world.

He owes a ton of money to Dr Tim Ball for his failed defamation suit. I doubt he’ll ever pay it. What a scumbag.

“Climate change is now causing amplified weather extremes of the sort we’ve been witnessing this summer” To my knowledge no where is there any solid evidence that there is new weather extremes much less that they are the result of man’s activities. These folks make the claim and count on their followers blindly accepting the premise.

I wish! The climate scammers and the governments they serve haven’t cared at all about data, or truth or even just plain logic. The whole scary mess has a huge amount of momentum and a lot of support from the sensationalist media and there’s billions of dollars involved so it might never stop unless there’s a huge crisis, much bigger than Texas’ big freeze up.

““Climate change is now causing amplified weather extremes of the sort we’ve been witnessing this summer – droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, superstorms,”. Besides the fact that the data shows none of this is true, this old trope is getting really tiresome.

The whole 1.5ºC limit “if we follow idiots like Mann and Gavin Schmidt” requires one to believe in magic.

I’m still trying to figure out how getting temperatures back to what was seen during the Holocene Optimum for 5 to 10 thousand years, is supposed to be a bad thing.

I am tempted to go to this COP out meeting this year as it is reasonable local, just a few hundred miles up the road. I am thinking of baking a large fruit cake with 26 candles on it and a card with appropriate sentiments. Feel free to suggest the wording, I am always looking for ideas.
As a delivery boy with a cake I am sure I could get past the guards and gain entry.
Not sure how many will be attending this years gab fest, but the previous one managed to assemble tens of thousands of freeloaders. All on expenses paid attendance of course.
I guess it will need to be a big cake!
A nice decoration of skull and crossed hockey sticks might be appropriate?

Eric, I think you are right. I don’t have a Greenpeace card but I do have a Greene King card from my local pub, maybe that would do? The other option is just to dress up as a clown and join the general gathering, incognito…..

Not to be too serious, but it’d be nice if skeptics could mount some counter demonstrations in Glasgow during COP26. We did so at previous shindigs, but that was pre-lockdown.There will be a heavy media presence and some will be bored enough by the main show they might pay attention to a side show.

“Climate change is now causing amplified weather extremes of the sort we’ve been witnessing this summer – droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, superstorms,” he said.

This is nonsense. There is no theory that supports this proposal and there is no data that shows any weather activity outside of normal occurrence.

That makes it a “Chicken Little” proclamation and nothing more.

And the Guardian just laps up Mann’s workds. As a lifelong Guardian reader, they disappoint me so much. Objectivity and analysis go out the window so long as the speaker is giving the ‘truth’ you are looking for. To them, the scandal of the UK government’s Climate ambassador, Alok Sharma’s recent flying to 30 countries and exemption from Covid quarantines was just a Daily Mail smear tactic!! Sharma’s justification? Face-to-face meetings are invaluable. But apparently not if only to visit sick and dying relatives, or to attend weddings and funerals.

I predict a very snowy winter in the northern hemisphere this year. I am taking three factors into account.
First, galactic radiation is concentrated in the high and mid latitudes, according to the geomagnetic field.
Second, the oceans are warm enough that there will be enough water vapor to produce plenty of snow.
Third, there will already be La Niña in November, which will cause temperatures to drop in high latitudes.
In this situation, we can expect frequent stratospheric intrusions and snow fronts in the middle latitudes.comment image

I have been following WUWT for many years now but have never posted.
It would be a considerable improvement if the replies did not descend into hurling abuse at each other almost every time.

My point today is that I see absolutely no evidence for CAGW and not much for AGW so I see no crisis.

If however the latest IPCC report were true ( I don’t believe it is) then the only rational thing to do would be to persuade (by fair means or foul) China and other major creators of CO2 to stop their growth. Not exactly likely!

All other steps are mindless and unbelievably destructive virtue signalling.

From the article: ““Climate change is now causing amplified weather extremes of the sort we’ve been witnessing this summer – droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, superstorms,” he [Mann] said.”

We witness these kinds of weather events *every* year.

Every year the alarmists and Charlatans see CO2 in any unusual weather event. They are like the boy crying wolf all the time.

And of course, they completely ignore the fact that the weather has been more extreme in the past when CO2 was not a factor. The statistics are clear.

More lies from Michael Mann.

From the article: “The earth has warmed up by around one degree since the beginning of industrialization, another half a degree is already safe. So it is clear that there is little room for maneuver.”

Well, the Earth has cooled by around one-half a degree (C) since Michael Mann made this statement. So the Earth is farther away from the 1.5C phony crisis target than in 2015.

The Earth is headed in the right direction temperature-wise. Anyone paying attention should be encouraged that Mother Nature seems to be taking care of the temperatures, and overheating is not taking place, as the alarmists claim.

I have a suggestion for Mikey Mann, the Head Climate Twink:

Get your mouth sewn shut!

Has he ever heard of those superwarm periods back in the Long Ago? Maybe Professor Peabody** could give him a clue with a trip in the Wayback Machine to the epic Carboniferous epoch. You know, pack a nice picnic lunch or something and take along some bug repellent to fight off the 6 foot long centipedes. 🙂

**Yes, I did watch those cartoons and Crusader Rabbit, too, and a bunch of other stuff.

ANTARCTIC BLAST DELIVERS FREEZING LOWS, RARE SNOWS, AND POWER OUTAGES ACROSS NEW ZEALAND

Snow dumps up to a whopping 2m (6.6ft) have been reported.
However, for all the thrill of fresh powder, New Zealand’s Mountain Safety Council (MSC) has urged Kiwis not to rush to the slopes, warning that the first two days after a snow dump brings a major risk of avalanches.
“The 24-48hr period after a storm like this one is the most dangerous, and while the temptation is to rush out and get the fresh powder it’s really the time for patience and a cautious approach,” said MSC Chief Executive Mike Daisley.
