Summit organisers, the United Nations and UK PM Boris Johnson, rejected Australia’s attendance, claiming Australia’s climate action plan was “unacceptably weak”.
Australia will suffer for global climate summit snub to Morrison
By Laurence Tubiana
December 11, 2020 — 7.14amThis weekend more than 70 world leaders – from Canada to Japan to Rwanda – will gather virtually to discuss how they are laying the concrete foundations for the clean economic transition that all their policies are converging upon. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison will not be one of them.
Leaders were asked to submit ambitious new proposals to the UN, French and British governments running the Climate Action Summit. Australia’s offer – to stop using old carbon credits to make it easier to meet emission cut goals and to consider a carbon neutrality plan – was deemed by the organisers to be unacceptably weak, especially compared with the concrete commitments and plans from other leading economies.
Australia will be a notable absentee at a meeting where Britain, Japan, South Korea, the European Union, China and connections to the incoming US administration will affirm the direction of the battle against climate change. Australia is not at the table of leaders who have set a clear direction for a cleaner world where fossil fuels do not dominate, where coal is in a death spiral and oil and gas greatly diminished. This will ultimately hurt Australia’s people and economy.
Few countries are as blessed as Australia when it comes to clean energy potential. From the sun, surf and wind to the raw materials that are critical to the fifth industrial revolution, few countries can count themselves as lucky to have so many winning cards.

The summit Australia has not been invited to is the “Global Ambition Summit”.
UN chief and UK premier announce December climate summit
24 September 2020
Climate ChangeWith the COVID-19 pandemic having disrupted plans to hold the annual international UN climate meeting – known as the COP – this year, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom have announced that they will instead co-host a “landmark global event” on 12 December, the fifth anniversary of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
The event is being dubbed “the sprint to Glasgow” by the UN. Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the UK was slated to host this year’s COP in the Scottish City. The Summit is now scheduled to take place a year later, in November 2021.
The December event will be held amid signs that the world is off-track to limit global temperature rises to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, and that a carbon-free economy is long overdue.
“The climate emergency is fully upon us, and we have no time to waste, Mr. Guterres said in a statement. “The answer to our existential crisis is swift, decisive, scaled up action and solidarity among nations”.
The aim of the event is to rally momentum and call for much greater climate action and ambition. National governments will be invited to present more ambitious and high-quality climate plans, as well as COVID recovery plans, new finance commitments and measures to limit global warming to 1.5C.
It will bring together leaders from across all levels of government, as well as the private sector and civil society, to present new measures, boosting ambition and action.

If climate action made economic sense, there would be no need for government targets and international bullying. There is no regulatory impediment to investors flocking to Australia’s “blessed” renewable energy opportunities of their own free will.
But for some reason, investors won’t touch all these amazing renewable energy opportunities unless the government guarantees their profits through mandatory climate targets, soft loans and guaranteed market share.
Bullying Australia for not embracing alleged green energy opportunities is great cover for nations which have yet to demonstrate any meaningful climate progress of their own.
The alleged climate achievements of European nations behind the big push for renewables are mostly fancy accounting and exporting carbon intensive jobs like manufacturing solar panels to China.
I expect to see a lot more climate bullying and non-achievement, if Biden is confirmed as the next US President. The main reason US emissions have fallen over the last decade is gas fracking displaced a lot of coal. But Biden is hostile to fracking.

“Australia Not Invited to a Big International Climate Summit”
YIPPEEEEEEE !
What’s next in good news today !!
Australia, get ready for the Biden-Harris administration to start to chastise this country for our coal exports and the CO2 they emit in China during steel manufacture.
China is whipping Australia now with tariffs on our exports. Thus, China will show the world how superior they are at this Climate Conference, pleading that they are still a developing country, and it will turn out to be a resume of the Great Reset by the UN to impose on Western countries to de-industrialise them.
Western leaders are bloody naive.
Eric, I worry Oz PM will give in. Aren’t you guys pretty much in the bag? They have passed pretty strong anti-free speech legislation and they are jailing people without masks. Morrison may hold out if Trump finds anyone with courage left in American officialdom and hangs on to the Oval Office
That mask thing is only in Victoriastan !
The Premier down there is a dull-witted, Troodo’h-like, socialist munchkin.
whos now planning to let 23k os students in!
direct to the uni ccampuses highschools etc
because?
money!
not jailed for no masks but fined
most didnt pay em;-))
and masks are now only in crowded spaces like superamarkets etc which is sensible enough
we didnt excape the idiocy totally we have the pacific NOT sinking islanders moaning again and wanting reparation for?
nothing!
but its good spin and always gets media
schoolkids sitting in the water symbolically enjoyng their flooded futures
ffs!

What this article omits is that all Australian states have high renewable energy targets, both (in US terms) conservative and liberal governments. The reason is simple- It’s cheapest, and popular.
https://theconversation.com/up-to-90-of-electricity-from-solar-and-wind-the-cheapest-option-by-2030-csiro-analysis-151831
On the other hand, the Federal government regularly tears itself apart between its climate denier (or as you would have it “skeptic”) and those who accept the consensus science. Australia will almost certainly meet ambitious targets of carbon neutrality, but the feds can’t admit it, as it will set off more internal brawling.
When generators “game” the market and deliberately makes prices higher, bringing in them in-line (Levelling the playing field so to speak) with renewables then they will look cheaper. The simple matter is electricity in Australia is some of the most expensive in the world *BECAUSE* of renewables.
I ask again Tony, why is there so much demand for government targets and special treatment?
If renewables are the cheapest option market economics should drive the green revolution, no government targets required.
It only took a decade for kerosene to displace whale oil. Genuine cost driven revolutions happen fast, no matter what the incumbents try to do to stop them.
There is demand for targets, as if the world is to decarboonise, it needs to be done quickly. The “special treatement” no longer applies in Oz. The Fed govt is attempting to strong arm power companies into keeping their fossil fuel plants opening, even though irts cheaper to close them, and is even talking about building a gas plants with public money- i.e. fossil fuels are now demanding sepcial treatment.
Reverse auctions for large scale wind/ solar typically come it at the 3-5 c mark, HELE coal can not compete, gas isn’t even close.
They are doing all that because they want to keep the lights on. Over educated idiots at the CSIRO and greentards like yourself Tony can pontificate all you like but you aren’t electrical power engineers or involved in the power industry and so your opinion is meaningless.
The problem you fools never address is how are you going to generate power between 5-9PM when the evening peak is on and there is no sunlight and the wind isn’t blowing.
So expert Tony you have one challenge explain how you provide power in that peak period … it’s a really simple question.
“it needs to be done quickly. “
The world DOES NOT NEED TO DECARBONISE.
That is the fallacy, right from the start.
You are totally delusional if you think wind and solar can ever power Australian cities.
When the wind drops at night.. you have NOTHING.
Without an absolutely GUARANTEE OF SUPPLY…
YOU HAVE NOTHING.
“and is even talking about building a gas plants with public money- i.e. fossil fuels are now demanding special treatment.”
ROFLMAO.. Wind and Solar are purchased using public money.
… it is NOT special treatment !
If coal is allowed to operate at maximum capacity , it is far cheaper than wind or solar.
Its only when you start making them ramp up and down, charge them HUGE taxes for providing much needed plant food, make them pay for the inherent UNRELIABILITY of wind and solar, or even more stupidly expect then to capture and sequester that much needed CO2…. and generally disrupting their mode of operation, that SUBSIDISED wind and solar even get a look in.
I’m totally fine with all the remaining coal and gas plants closing. I’ve got a generator, and it will be fun to watch renewables advocates explain all the blackouts.
whos now planning to let 23k os students in!
direct to the uni ccampuses highschools etc
because?
money!
Im not, cant afford a generator and would prefer to see new coal or gas be built asap.
can all the subsidies to winf n solar scammers and stop importing chinas crap panels
“It’s cheapest …”.
That statement flies in the face of empirical evidence within Australia and internationally.
Places with a higher percentage of so-called renewables (excluding hydro) have higher costs, the more ‘renewables’ the higher the cost.
Of all ‘renewables’ solar PV is the most inefficient in terms of energy return on energy invested and with current technology in the long term will not sustain a modern economy.
The cost that these clown never consider is the cost of implementation into the grid without disrupting the three ABSOLUTE MUSTS of the grid.
1. RELIABILITY of supply
2. STABILITY of frequency within very fine margins.
3. SYNCHRONICITY of the frequency within the grid.
Wind and solar DISRUPT all three of these ABSOLUTES of the grid.
The costs associated with implementation into the grid are ENORMOUS.
A recent study from Vietnam about the cost of implementation of wind and solar into their grid shows why costs to consumers WILL ALWAYS INCREASE as the percentage of wind and solar increase
Tony — maaaate pull the other one it has bells on.
“Consensus science” – an oxymoron for those without oxy. Adults who believe in Santa Clause and the “Greenhouse Effect” fairytale. Laughably gullible.
Something to ponder. Three oceans that span the equator. Minimal connection between them and yet they all achieve the same delicate energy balance to have the same peak surface temperature that has not changed in the past billion years:
https://1drv.ms/b/s!Aq1iAj8Yo7jNhAeQGp_7ns2Kulo9
And never in the next billion years will the SST exceed 32C.
Is that the result of some puny “Greenhouse Effect” or the powerful solar reflection of high altitude clouds associated with cloudburst that drive monsoon and cyclones. It kicks in at sea surface temperature of 26C, reduces net heat uptake by 28.5C and is so effective at reducing heat input that the SST can NEVER exceed 32C:
https://1drv.ms/b/s!Aq1iAj8Yo7jNg3vzCCr-yZNwAEVd
Tony – Please start to think for yourself rather than stating something as silly as “consensus science”.
If renewable is so cheap, why does the government have to mandate it?
Tony keeps repeating the same old lies, hoping that someday, even he will start believing them.
On top of the HORRENDOUS COST OF IMPLEMENTATION INTO THE GRID.
There is also the large cost of INEFFICIENCY of having the need for 100% back-up of RELIABLE electricity supply.
If a power plant is only ALLOWED to use half its capacity, while still capable of operating 24/7 at near peak capacity, IE COAL and GAS.
Since the cost of the coal involved in actually only a small percentage, the RELIABLE power plant needs to charge more for each unit amount produced.. PRICES HAVE TO GO UP.
Also operating a coal plant too much up and down causes extra maintenance needs.. PRICES HAVE TO GO UP.
Not to mention that operating in this fashion uses nearly as much coal as operating at maximum capacity…… so PRICES HAVE TO GO UP.
How ironic! After two decades of virtue signaling n brown nosing anyone who would listen, Australia has lost its place at the High Table of Climate Charlatans. Even the fact that “Mr. Consensus” (John Cook) is an Aussie doesn’t make them even the equal of Rwanda. So much for lying to their own people for years hoping for a pat on the head from the real climate players like Canada Britain and the US.
Oh he shame of it, Oz … no longer in the club.
I have written to ScoMo to congratulate him in our not being invited.
Oh dear, how sad, too bad, never mind.
Turning their backs on Australia will probably push them into the hands of the Chinese… Is that what they really want? In the EU they’re talking about 30 million EV’s for a population of 550 million. So many people
will probably have to walk or ride a bicycle to work in the future… Long distance travel will probably be a privilege reserved for the elites…
Yet another badge of honour for us Aussies! Is the denied participation because we are one of the few countries that are actually meeting their Paris agreement obligations? After all, we wouldn’t want to single out China, which has zero obligations for the next ten years, for criticism, but builds coal-fired power stations at an ‘unprecedented’ rate!! Hell, that might get us another round of tariffs on others of our products!
Has there ever been a more-petulant major power clique in world history as 11 Jinping and his cohorts? As Joe Biden might say, “C’mon, man!” But then, Joe B is looking more and more like one of them.
Look at it on the bright side. The Australian carbon footprint will be the smallest of all the participants.
I love when they use terms like “ambition” to descibe introducing economic austerity and downgrading people’s life quality. Such beautiful doublespeak like social “justice” or peaceful “protests”. Hey little one, do you have ambition to have less, eat less, travel less and ban and outlaw more? Come, come inside, this fancy green building is not the slaughterhouse those nasty conspiracy theorists told you about… we will only sheer your wool, not make mutton… promise!
The Covid response in Democratic states tells you how it will look: they will party, travel and eat lavishly while banning the same activities for everyone else under penalty of fines and imprisonment.
As an Englishman I’m seriously looking forward to COP26 in Scottish Glasgow. With a bit of residual La Niña it will probably be snowing. 20,000 weirdos arriving by jet aircraft can’t be concealed from the British public even by the lying, partisan BBC. COP26 will fail as all previous COPs – just kick the can along the lane. China will love it. As will that unpleasant Saudi Prince. No country will threaten their poor and their stability by reducing energy supply- oops what did I say? I’ve told my American friends to get their cheque books out
Yep and all those warm fuzzy nations who commit to great co2 reduction never deliver on their commitments it’s a joke to even mention China re co2 reduction.
From the article: “Summit organisers, the United Nations and UK PM Boris Johnson, rejected Australia’s attendance, claiming Australia’s climate action plan was “unacceptably weak”.”
Australia’s production of CO2 is one of the smallest in the world, yet the authoritarians of the world want to make an example out of Australia.
If the authoritarians were serious about reducing CO2 production they would be condemning China instead of Australia. But China gets a pass on all things at the UN.
It’s all about power and control. It has nothing to do with the Earth’s climate. That’s just the excuse they use in their efforts to try to control everyone in the Western world. And Boris Johnson is leading the charge.
You know, the Wuhan virus can sometimes get into a person’s brain and cause serious damage. That may be the case with Boris.
From the article: “This weekend more than 70 world leaders – from Canada to Japan to Rwanda – will gather virtually to discuss how they are laying the concrete foundations for the clean economic transition that all their policies are converging upon.”
No! That’s a lie. China is not transitioning off coal.
All these converging policies are for the Western world, not the rest of the world. China and India get a pass, and the real undeveloped countries get money from the developed countries. They aren’t giving anything up, they are just transitioning to a more profitable future, on the backs of the Western world.
From the article: “Australia will be a notable absentee at a meeting where Britain, Japan, South Korea, the European Union, China and connections to the incoming US administration will affirm the direction of the battle against climate change.”
Well, if ole Trump manages to remain as president, I suppose these clowns might be so stupid as to try to condemn Trump’s failure to toe the UN line on Climate Change, like they are doing with Australia.
I would love to see that! What are you going to do about it, Boris? How are you going to condemn the U.S. when the U.S. has reduced its CO2 production more than any of you complainers, and we didn’t do it to conform to the UN mandate, we did it because that’s the way Free Enterprise works by substituting cheaper natural gas for coal.
We are waiting on the U.S. Supreme Court to set the election right, and then Trump can set the Human-caused Climate Change scam in proper perspective.
From the article: ““The climate emergency is fully upon us, and we have no time to waste, Mr. Guterres said in a statement. “The answer to our existential crisis is swift, decisive, scaled up action and solidarity among nations”.”
What a pack of lies!
There is no climate emergency. This exists only in the minds of the scammers.
There is no evidence a “climate emergency” is fully upon us or even partially upon us.
Everything the UN cites as an climate emergency is a Big Lie.
The UN tactic is to repeat the Big Lie often enough that it becomes the truth in some people’s minds.
typical conartists line
quick must decide now panic panic grab the money n run
From the article: “The December event will be held amid signs that the world is off-track to limit global temperature rises to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, and that a carbon-free economy is long overdue.”
Lies, lies, lies!
The UN has no evidence that it’s plan to reduce CO2 levels will do anything to modify the Earth’s temperature.
There is no evidence that CO2 is harmful to humans or the Earth’s weather and climate.
The UN is basing all this on unsubstantiated speculation. They couldn’t prove what they say if their lives depended on proving it.
Lying and misleading billions of people for fun and profit, that’s what the UN is doing.
I have to adjust my opinion of Boris Johnson. The UN and Macron continue unadjusted.
Australia is well-named “the lucky country” as it has managed to avoid being involved in that pointless exercise of virtue signalling (or should that be stupidity signalling). It was astute of them to offer a feeble entry into the “ we can waste more money than you” contest.
My admiration for Australia grows more every day.
What can I do to get Canada “not invited” too?
Sadly, as you probably have read by now, the Trudeau government just announced that it is “doubling down’ on extraordinarily costly and intrusive climate policies. By 2030, if Trudeau has his way and Canadians are foolish enough to keep voting for him, Canadians will face carbon taxes of $170 per tonne and have a “Clean Fuel Standard” imposed that will have the effect of increasing natural gas prices by 50 to 100 per cent. This will be added to the 237 federal and provincial government measures already in place to “transform” the Canadian energy economy and largely destroy the resource industries. Trudeau and his ilk not only want to be invited to the international “reset”, they want to lead it.
And what is the deal with Trudeau sending out an invitation to the Chicoms to train them in cold-weather tactics? Trudeau apparently thinks it is a good idea to train your enemies to be better fighters.
Fortunately, the Chicoms kidnapped a couple of Canadians (unfortunate for them) and so that put a halt to Canada training Chicom soldiers.
If not for that, I suppose Trudeau would be training those Chicoms up.
You guys need to vote Trudeau out of office, otherwise he will keep sending Canada down the wrong road.
I guess Democracy breeds weak leaders, and we are overrun with them now. You don’t see that in totalitarian governments. The weak don’t last long there.
The Canadian media, like the American media, is dominated by left-wingers. So are the universities. The private foundations give hundreds of millions of dollars to left wing and “environmentalist” organizations – so much that they can far outspend any political party. Our history has been one in which recent immigrants vote for the party that was in office when they entered the country, so the parties (and especially the Liberals) fall all over themselves trying to increase the number of immigrants. It will take an economic disaster to change people’s minds – never fear, Trudeau is doing his best to arrange just that.
As you guessed there are a lot of really stupid people in canada.
They want so badly to feel like they are wanted by someone for some reason.
There is great British political movie, a comedy from 2007 called In The Loop
It contains a devastating put down of these sorts of canadians
Pathetic creatures
