Guest essay by Eric Worrall
Former Republican governors John Kasich and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and former Secretary of State John Kerry have teamed up to create “World War Zero”, an initiative aimed at driving conservative interest in climate action.
It’s Time for American Leaders to Wake Up to the Threat of Climate Change for the Good of the Planet and Business
BY JOHN R. KASICH AUGUST 3, 2020 11:55 AM EDT
Kasich was the governor of Ohio from 2011 to 2019.…
If we could have seen the pandemic coming and had the power to prevent it, of course, we would have. If we had that power but sat on our hands as millions became sick and died, that inaction would be unforgivable.
There is another problem that we know is coming, that we have the power to address, and yet which we continually do too little—or often nothing—to tackle. I’m talking about climate change.
…
I joined with former Secretary of State John Kerry and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger behind an effort called “World War Zero” to help bring together a group of unlikely allies – Democrats, Republicans and independents, scientists, military leaders, business leaders, diplomats, entertainers, and ordinary people from all walks of life – to mobilize, speak up, and tackle climate change together. And to find new ways of helping people appreciate the need to address the problem.
Seeing the economic benefits of renewable energy investments at a time of a global recession might not be an angle that first comes to mind. But tough problems merit different approaches and demand that we take advantage of the opportunities when they arise—like now.

“World War Zero” wants net zero emissions by 2050. I couldn’t see anything resembling a carefully costed plan to achieve net zero, the site focus mostly seems to consist of lots of positive thinking, and reminiscences about the spectacular debt fuelled growth of the 1940s wartime economy.
Kasich’s claims of economic benefits from renewables are questionable. If renewables provided any short term “economic benefits”, if they were a genuinely profitable opportunity, there would be no need for the government to step in and support renewables.
Regardless of the alleged long term benefits of renewables, in the short to medium term additional government support for renewables would be a drag on the economy.
The last thing the USA or anywhere else needs right now is even more short term economic pain.

We need an important correction to this appraisal:
““World War Zero”: Former Republican Governors Demand Action on Climate Change”
These are not former Republican Governors…they are former fake Republican Governors.
“Fake Republican former Governors” is better grammar, i would think.
Amazon will have net zero by 2025. Their commercial says so. It also says they will be 100% renewable by 2040. Whoa–did I just see a White Rabbit run by?
More and more mainstream (not fake) republicans are caving on this. Note how fast Trump folded on mask wearing. It’s only a matter of time before he promotes renewables and puts up charts on warming. Science is determined by the press and Trump will go along with anything his high profile advisors tell us for fear of the press. The battle is being lost. Tying it to Covid only quickens the amount of agreement. The discussions of Covid and global warming are virtually identical as time passes. The battle is very quickly being lost.
From the article: “And to find new ways of helping people appreciate the need to address the problem [Human-caused Climate Change].”
Well, John, how about you helping us to understand the problem by telling us what it is that has convinced you that Human-caused Climate Change is real? I mean specifically.
It should be easy, or at least that’s the impression you give, and then we will all be won over by your argument.
You are sure enough about the science to make an argument, aren’t you? You sound sure of yourself. So lay the evidence on us. What convinced you that CO2 needs regulation?
Of course, John, like many others who make the same claims about Human-caused Climate Change, couldn’t provide evidence for it if their lives depended on doing so.
You ask for evidence from alarmists and all you get is silence. That’s what we’ll get from these two RHINOs and the conniving, lying Democrat, John Kerry: Silence. Because there is no evidence to provide.
Climategate. That’s where the Lie originated. That’s what John is going by and it’s all science fiction. Other than the bastardized surface temperature charts, there is no evidence, and the bastardized temperature charts are bogus and can be shown to be so.
All you have to do to see that the official surface temperature records are bogus is to compare them to the actual temperature readings given in regional Tmax temperature charts from all over the world.
None of the regional Tmax charts resemble the official surface temperature record profile (hotter and hotter and hotter). The Tmax charts show it was just as warm in the recent past (Early Twentieth Century) as it is today which destroys the Human-caused Climate Change narrative, since it was just as warm then with much less CO2 in the atmosphere than now.
Where’s your evidence, John? Before we spend any money, we need some reason to do so.
Surely someone has pointed out that John Kerry was not a Republican Governor, right?
“If renewables provided any short term “economic benefits”, if they were a genuinely profitable opportunity, there would be no need for the government to step in and support renewables.”
BINGO!
What they really want is a lot of your money, using the sola and windpower flim-flam to get it.
Kasich, Kerry and Schwarzenegger are all brainwashing victims; everyone knows the process severely physically shrinks the brain, diminishes cognitive ability and eliminates all rational thought!
