Joe Manchin kills Build Back Better bill on Fox News

It’s all over: Manchin says he ‘cannot vote’ for Build Back Better

Fox News, 19 December 2021

‘I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation,’ he said

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., declared Sunday that after months of negotiations he has determined that there is no way he can support the massive social spending bill known as the Build Back Better Act. Speaking with “Fox News Sunday,” Manchin said that he has spoken with President Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., “I’ve done everything humanly possible,” Manchin said, talking about how hard he has worked to try to reach an acceptable compromise on the bill.

In the end, however, he said that between ongoing inflation, the national debt, “geopolitical unrest,” and the COVID-19 pandemic, the bill being pushed by his fellow Democrats was too much.  “When you have these things coming at you the way they are right now … I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation,” he said, stating that if he cannot explain to his constituents why he would vote for a bill, then he cannot vote for it, despite all the work he and other Democrats have put into trying to make it work. “This is a no,” he said. “I have tried everything I know to do.”

Michael Mann on MSNBC: “Well, you know, we need to pass Build Back Better, because that –that bill has climate provisions that will address this problem at its, you know, at its core, which is the warming of the planet due to carbon pollution, fossil fuel burning, so that’s most important. We can prevent this from getting worse if we act on climate.” …

Mann: “It’s really both. It’s adapting to the changes that we are already forced to deal with and preventing it most importantly, from getting worse by acting on climate.”

Dem Sen. Manchin on federally funded electric car charging stations: ‘I don’t remember the fed govt building filling stations when Henry Ford invented the Model T’

Manchin said he does not agree that the federal government’s role should be supporting private-sector EV infrastructure buildouts.

“They talked about electric vehicles spending, $80 million building charging stations,” Manchin said. “I said I’m having a hard time with that. I don’t remember the federal government building filling stations when Henry Ford invented the Model T.”

Rolling Stone: ‘Joe Manchin Just Cooked the Planet’ by not supporting Biden’s massive federal spending bill — ‘Condemned virtually every living creature on Earth to a hellish future of suffering, hardship, & death’

JEFF GOODELL of Rolling Stone: “West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin just cooked the planet. I don’t mean that in a metaphorical sense. I mean that literally. Unless Manchin changes his negotiating position dramatically in the near future, he will be remembered as the man who, when the moment of decision came, chose to condemn virtually every living creature on Earth to a hellish future of suffering, hardship, and death.”

Build Back a Better Backlash.

Hopefully, this marks a powershift from the left fringe to the middle of the Democrat party where it belongs. The fringe who have been wearing ineffective masks as a banner of solidarity, have been hoodwinked and leveraged by capitalists who appear to be fact check friends but just want American to be eating out of their virtual hands for the sake of dollars and megalomaniacal fantasy.. The fantasy of a virtual America staying at home and not procreating of the left, will bring nothing but a back lash and a headache to our propagandizing capitalistic tech companies. The house of cards of strange bedfellows is beginning to collapse.

It won’t collapse until they succeed. Meaning, it is an inevitability that the Marxists win. This will either force a civil war or we accept their terms of lifestyle. We can not escape this fate.
It isn’t possible to write a constitution that a federal government won’t ignore. I am not sure who said it, paraphrasing here, “Laws are only for law abiding citizens.” The constitution is the only law that applies to making laws. Obviously, law makers are not law abiding citizens.

There is no middle in the Democrat Party any more. There are a few, very few, moderates, and the rest are radical leftists.

Nutty Prof M Mann: Joe Manchin just launched a hand grenade at Glasgow.
I appreciate that the effects of hand grenades tend to be very local rather than global but as I live near Glasgow, could N. P. Mann let me know which part of Glasgow was the target.
“A hand grenade?” (In the tones of Lady Bracknell.)

My gut feeling is the climate change agenda is slowly being consigned to the dustbin. Think of it like the USSR, it was there until the day it collapsed over night. Bubbling away in the background the whole edifice had been in collapse for decades and on the surface we all thought it would last for ever.

Trump is 75 and thinking of running again. Joe Biden is 79 and currently occupies the oval office – so his age isn’t the valid argument you think it is. At least Manchin appears to still have all his marbles, unlike the big guy.

(make no mistake, I’m not for Machin for president, just pointing out that ageism isn’t a valid argument against.)

And keep in mind that Manchin was willing to spend $1.8 Trillon, he just had a problem with some of the social spending in the bill.

I think Manchin is still on board with spending lots of money on climate change. I don’t know if that includes hiring 300,000 Climate Change Brownshirts, like AOC wants.

That piece of legislation was thousands of pages thick.

It’s ridiculous the way legislation is handled. It’s the perfect setup for adding pork-barrel spending.

We need the presidential line-item veto as a means of reining in the spending of Congress. It wouldn’t help with Biden in office since he wouldn’t use it, but if the oppostion party was in power, then a lot of stupid spending could be eliminated

What gets me is how few “legislators” even read the proposed bills they vote on. Didn’t Pelosi complain when expected to read the bill first?

Pelosi said we could find out what was in the bill after it was voted on. About as undemocratic as one could be.

And I bet very few congresscritters read thousands of pages of these spending bills. Which means nefarious characters can slip all sorts of things into these bills and nobody knows about them until they become law.

It’s a huge, dangerous distortion of our government processes.

And Trump was regularly attacked for not playing along. He insisted on exposing the rot to the light. These people had a well greased trough to dip their trotters in and he insisted on disturbing the little piggies.

From the article: “Mann: “It’s really both. It’s adapting to the changes that we are already forced to deal with”

What changes? There is no unprecedented weather. There is no unprecedented warming, either. But you knew that, didn’t you.

If one thing fails then Biden simply moves to the next like prescribing what the fuel consumption of vehicles needs to be before 2030. Has he (or his puppet masters) even bothered to check with the manufacturers to see a prototype that will achieve this and be economically viable? I think not.

Joe Manchin is one of a few remaining old-fashioned Senators who sincerely believe that their job is to represent the people of his or her state in the Senate.

West Virginia was a reliable Democrat state up until 2000, since most members of the coal-miners’ union believed that Democrats would defend their interests. When Al Gore came out with his global-warming scare in 1998, and started campaigning against coal mining, West Virginia surprisingly voted for George W. Bush for President. Most of the attention that year was on the extremely close election in Florida, but if Gore had won West Virginia, he would have become President without winning Florida.

West Virginia has voted for the Republican Presidential candidate ever since 2000, by ever-increasing margins, due to the recent tendency of Democrat candidates campaigning against fossil fuels and coal mining (John Kerry, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden). Manchin’s fellow Senator from West Virginia (Shelly Capito, a Republican) was re-elected in 2020 with 70% of the vote.

Joe Manchin is popular in West Virginia because he previously served as Governor before being elected Senator in 2012, and re-elected in 2018 by a narrow margin. He has never turned his back on the coal industry in his state, and knows that if he ever did, his Senate career would end in the next election. The Build Back Better plan had hundreds of billions of dollars devoted to fighting “climate change”, which would have meant shutting down his state’s bread-and-butter industry. Why would Manchin ever support that?

“The Build Back Better plan had hundreds of billions of dollars devoted to fighting “climate change”, which would have meant shutting down his state’s bread-and-butter industry. Why would Manchin ever support that?”

That’s a good question, but it’s my understanding that Manchin is onboard with some spending to “fight” climate change, although it probably doesn’t include cutting out the coal industry.

Manchin was willing to sign off on $1.8 Trillion in spending before Biden’s team upset the applecart, so expect to see something happening within that $1.8 Trillion framework. Manchin has not said no to everything. The next question to answer is what does he say yes to?

We will have to wait and see.
