Science Alert is upset
Over the past two weeks, something unprecedented has happened on ScienceAlert’s Facebook page. And we need to talk about it.
As members of the Covering Climate Now initiative, we recently strengthened our coverage of climate change. We also proudly supported the Global Climate Strike on 20 September 2019, a day that saw over four million people staging protests around the world, demanding climate action as signs of environmental breakdown rapidly encompass our little blue marble.
OMG! We are all Russian Bots!
Our readers have expressed surprise at just how many climate change deniers appear to be following us. Lately, every time we post a climate news article on Facebook, with astonishing speed and ferocity the comment section becomes a hot-pot of climate denialism.
Posts will receive hundreds of comments in a short amount of time, often in wild disproportion to the actual reach of the post, or the readership of the article itself. Those metrics are a clear sign the engagement is not organic, but is coming from a targeted source.
They lurk in those dark corners…other there! And they’re funded! yeah that’s the ticket…funded!
We don’t know where these climate trolls roost. Maybe they come from self-organizing grassroots groups with secret Facebook pages. Perhaps the fact they all use the same language and the same memes is indicative of receiving talking points and funding from the fossil fuel industry. Perhaps.
What matters is that ScienceAlert’s Facebook page is being targeted, and we are taking action.
Please Stepford children, follow these instructions.
How you engage in our comment section on Facebook is crucial. When you see one of our posts about climate news, there will inevitably be climate troll comments underneath it. They will post inflammatory, false statements. Offensive memes. They are trying to upset you.
Do not let them. When you see a climate troll comment, please respond by simply tagging ScienceAlert, so our moderators can deal with it as soon as they’re able.
We can’t stress that enough: do not engage.

I noticed a growing trend of “denialist” comments not being posted at many of the MSM websites here in Australia that have comments enabled on climate change articles. Many posts request “denialist” posts be deleted and email addresses blocked.

recent greta comments are skeptics at about 7 to 3 believers
This is very close to what a sight calling itself “the conversation” has done recently.

Sorry, I came to my conclusions (namely, that the slight warming I see in the scientific records since 1850 is probably a natural variation and is unlikely to cause significant natural disaster; and is certainly unworthy of mass scale panic and abandonment of modern agriculture and transportation systems) all on my own.
I have seen an absolute surge in the fight back. Websites such as this and others have been critical in this.

Life on earth depends on convincing skeptics that they are wrong, but please don’t do that.
I suspect their real fear is that skeptics are better informed on the issue and the danger is that the Alarmanazis may begin to question the issue more seriously.

Well my casual research on the ABS website suggested to me that Australia has roughly 2million kiddlings between the ages of 10 to 19 in the cities, and just under another million living elsewhere in Oz.
So if we are generous and rule out the non city kids that still leaves 2 million or so of the target age group in Australia alone.
Yet there were ONLY 4 million protesters GLOBALLY?
Oh dear.
Let us see if we can recover here. Let us take the city of Melbourne, easily the most green and woke dystopia in all of Australia. The Division of Melbourne is currently held by Adam Bandt of The Greens, a man who likes to think of himself as a “Climate Leader”. Now in the last election young Adam received 45,876 primary votes out of the 100,000 or so punters in the 40km squared area. To find a more Green area of Australia you need to start banning meat eaters.
So, totally ignoring any surrounding areas that may have taken advantage of Melbourne’s half decent public transport system to come in for the day, there are some 45,000 green supporters of voting age before we even start to count the under 18s (aka the school kids who are of course the target audience for this strike).
So, in Melbourne and within reasonably walking distance there SHOULD exist easily over 50,000 protesters who should have been giving their left tofu to strike in the name of the Nordic Thanos and then we can still swell those numbers by those who live in the surrounding suburbs.
(the Division of Wills for example, which is immediately north of the Division of Melbourne, had over 25,000 Green first preference voters. Voters. People who believe The Greens are the best people to be in government. Plus, one assumes, matching kids.)
So should have easily been well over 100,000 in Melbourne alone.
Was there that many?
Yeah…. Didn’t think so.

Has anyone considered why Diesel, and ONLY Diesel got subsidized:
– After the napoleonic wars, after sea blockades and continental blockades, after WWI and WWII, the war-weary eurasian states wanted to become independent of foreign food deliveries.
– This was only possible with enhanced domestic primary productions.
– For this, the agricultural equipment would have to be supplied with enough: Diesel.
– for which the domestic gas station networks had to be equipped with a full range of diesel supply over / through farm land areas. Agriculture operates a few diesel-powered tractors and combine harvesters.
But there are countless employees who have to cover twice the distance between home and work every day.
