Sea Level Rise? President Obama Just Bought a Beachside Property

President and Michelle Obama join the growing list of climate activists who want to enjoy a little beachside luxury before the carbon demon swallows all the coastlines.

Barack and Michelle Obama are buying a $15M estate in Martha’s Vineyard

By Hana R. Alberts
August 22, 2019

Barack and Michelle Obama are close to buying a massive Martha’s Vineyard estate.

The property at 79 Turkeyland Cove Road in Edgartown, Mass. — owned by Boston Celtics chief Wyc Grousbeck — has a living room with vaulted ceilings and a stone fireplace, a chef’s kitchen and a formal dining room with giant windows, according to the property’s Realtor.com listing.
The Obamas will bunk in the master suite, which has a fireplace and private sun deck.

Outside, there’s a pool with another fireplace — or the couple could swim on the private beach, which has a boathouse.

I’m sure we all wish the Obamas well in their new home, but I can’t help thinking this purchase of a low lying seaside property somewhat contradicts previous statements by President Obama about the urgent need to address sea level rise.

Obama is screwed. Here’s why …

Sea-Levels, Rising Up To 23 Feet, Could Sink More Than 1,400 US Cities By 2100: Study
https://www.ibtimes.com/sea-levels-rising-23-feet-could-sink-more-1400-us-cities-2100-study-1365801

(snip)

“If global carbon emissions continue to increase at the current rate, it could lead to an increase in sea levels of up to 23 feet by the end of this century, submerging more than 1,400 cities and towns in the U.S., including Miami, Virginia Beach, Sacramento and Jacksonville, a new study said.

“According to the study, published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the amount of carbon pollution on the planet so far has “locked in” or assured a rise in sea levels of more than 4 feet from today’s levels, which is enough to sink more than half of the population in 316 coastal cities in the lower 48 states in the U.S.

“‘By the end of this century, if global climate emissions continue to increase, that may lock in 23 feet of sea level rise, and threaten 1,429 municipalities that would be mostly submerged at high tide,’ writes Benjamin Strauss, the study’s author, on Climate Central.”

Obama must be warned!

Keep your eyes peeled for a midsize storm coming up the Atlantic coast, approaching at hi tide. Should be informative.

The shore of the propery is on a large pond, protected from the open ocean by a long sand dune, which in some place reaches 10′ above sea level, but elsewhere is marshy. In the event of a storm with anything approaching 10′ swells, the sea will spill into the pond, raising its level and reshaping the dune barrier.

Get your popcorn now.

Trump franchised his name and paid dearly for mistakes made by his franchisees. No one was forced to attend Trump University.

Obama was largely responsible for his namesake Obamacare, which forced tens of millions to purchase a product they didn’t want or to pay fines for not doing so. Nevertheless, Obama received millions in kickbacks from healthcare companies that benefited. BTW, Obama also benefited financially from helping to fastrack Boeing’s 737 Max.

How were generated the funds to buy and maintain such a property ? A good analysis of Mr. Obama’s incomes could prove revealing.

Further, he probably plans on a huge insurance scam as his new asset gets engulfed by rising waters. Which punishable as he knew the dangers of investing there.

Trump made his money in real estate, honestly or otherwise.

How did Obama make his money?

Trump says “AGW’s a crock, let’s all build on the coast”

Obama says “AGW’s a threat, no one else build on the coast but me”.

Trump walks into the Whitehouse a wealthy man, and leaves a wealthy man.

Obama walks into the Whitehouse broke, and leaves a wealthy man.

Trump is a Republican and believes in personable responsibility.

Obama is a Democrat and believes in wealth distribution, to him.

We also have a system, in this country, for legal bribery of politicians. We call it “speeches.” A politician can charge $50,000, or $100,000, or anything at all, to give a half-hour speech.

Functionally, it might as well be brown paper bags full of cash.

Can we see Hillary’s tax returns from 2006 through 2016 please?
And get a quick audit there of that Clinton Family Charity that pays 3% of its donations to charities, but 97% to Clinton, Clinton family, Clinton travel, and Clinton clothes and housing and hotel and meals ….. Now how many hundred millions of her money came from the countries SHE was actually selling State Dept positions and decisions to?

The current president donates his presidential salary back to the government. The ex president kept his and is still collecting $207,800 per year presidential pension plus various perks such as medical coverage, staff expenses and Secret Service protection for life. Not a bad retirement for only 8 years service. And he won’t need to hire private armed security guards with privately owned firearms.

You really, really have to wonder how the Obamas managed to accumulate so much wealth in 8 years. Some of the doomsayers have claimed up to 90 metere sea level rise by 2100, which would be a metre a year! This would flood them out in no time. Even the “conservative” doomsayers claim the Obamas should be flooded out soon.
Something smells pretty bad.

Thank you for the stream of valuable contributions. “Follow the money” is a method that, when correctly applied, never misses.

So Mr. Obama walked broke into the White House. Supported ans institutionalized a complex set of AGW driven rules leading to the destruction of vast amounts of taxpayer’s money.

His last act was to donate one billion of taxpayer’s $ to the international climate scam treasury.

And now he walks out sufficiently rich to buy vast sea level properties and enjoy high life.

While America struggles to regain it’s lost magnificence in that process.

Could someone name the brain damage extend necessary to ignore the amount of corruption that leads to such a payola stream?

What about justice? Are all courts in America overwhelmed by speed tickets to the point of gladly missing such humongous financial crimes?

Where I live in NE Scotland the land is actually rising after the last 2 miles high ice retreated.
But – we have a bunch of government alarmists called SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) existing on the taxpayer dime.
They decide where a house can be built based on a 10 feet rise over (whatever they dictate) and their advice is used by Building Societies and Banks to determine if a mortgage is granted.
Of course the insurance companies are more than delighted to use the agencies”advice” in setting exorbitant premiums if you happen to already live near the non rising sea.
I realise it is non kosher to ask if local property prices will be adversely effected by a non white family moving into the Vinyard.

1) He is one person. He isn’t all Democrats, he isn’t all climate change activists, he isn’t even important in terms of climate change activism/denial. It’s cherrypicking to the utmost to care about one of his life decisions.

2) There is a serious lack of credible science disagreeing with climate change. Even yearly climate at this point is showing proof of what signs pointed to before, to the average citizen.

3) The models don’t indicate the world ending tomorrow. Don’t misconstrue that. Climate change is a gradual but devastating process, with long term effects occurring long after the causes. If we keep to what we are doing wrong, we guarantee roughly 50 years of consequences to develop. Including sea level rise. So pointing out a beachfront property today is hardly relevant for 30 years from now, which already has guaranteed issues to come.

Probably from speeches and books.

Barack Obama’s $400,000 speaking fees reveal what few want to admit
This is nothing new and very non-partisan for ex-presidents. According to Hillary the Clinton’s left the White House broke.
Reagan in 1989 made $2 million on an 8 day speaking tour in Japan. Eight Days in Japan Earn Ron and Nancy $2 Million—Now That’s Reaganomics
Bush $15 million: https://www.thedailybeast.com/george-w-bushs-dollar15-million-speech-payday
David Sherzer, a spokesman for the former president, said that since Bush left office he has delivered nearly 140 paid talks, at home and abroad. Those speeches have earned Bush about $15 million, following in the golden path blazed by his predecessor, Bill Clinton.

Reply to  Steven lonien

Steven Lonien, your windmill invention is essentially a complicated paddle-wheel, adapted to use wind instead of water. I am sure it works, but it has many more moving parts than a conventional wind turbine of similar output, and many more moving parts than a water paddle-wheel. That is not a good thing: it increases cost and decreases reliability.

BTW, why do you think props replaced paddle-wheels in marine applications? (It wasn’t Presidents playing favorites.)

Btw, Mr Worall: Obama and all the people in Marthas V. and Nantucket won’t have to expect much more than 5 mm/yr.

Maybe the people living e.g. here

Although the pictures give a distorted impression from the angle it was taken, the house is actually on a cliff well above sea level. In addition, sea level is rising more slowly on hte west coast than the east coast. The house will remain well above sea level for longer than the Obama’s will be alive.

No, it actually isn’t. The “cliff” is on the other side of the house from the shore, by a good distance. Several of us have verified, through multiple sources, that the house sits between 3 and 3.3 feet above sea level.

There’s no cliff, David; see for yourself:

The house is barely above sea-level. I put a little web page up about that house, and its elevation, and its flood risk, here:

https://sealevel.info/Obama_seaside_villa_Marthas_Vineyard/

The “First Street Foundation” FloodIQ site says that a Cat 1 hurricane in 15 years would flood Obama’s entire house, about 2/3 of it to a depth of less than one foot, and 1/3 of it to a depth of 1-2 feet. They say a Cat 3 hurricane would flood the entire house to a depth of more than three feet.

Caveat: the “First Street Foundation” is not a reliable source. But the propaganda they produce typifies the pseudoscience that Obama at least pretended to believe, when he was President.

David Leithauser wrote, “In addition, sea level is rising more slowly on hte west coast than the east coast.”

True, but Massachusetts is on the east coast, David.
