Department of Homeland Security goes off the deep end – now plans to battle "climate change" in addition to terrorists

Not content to keep to the terrorism prevention mission for which they were founded, DHS’s Janet Napolitano now plans to battle a religious war of “climatic jihad”.  Here’s what happened the last time Washington DC took on weather in February 2010 (but not climate). The capital was shut down of course. Now that’s “environmental justice”. Look for pat downs at airports soon for those carrying concealed carbonated beverages.

Napolitano Says DHS to Begin Battling Climate Change as Homeland Security Issue

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)

(CNSNews.com) – At an all-day White House conference on “environmental justice,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that her department is creating a new task force to battle the effects of climate change on domestic security operations.

Speaking at the first White House Forum on Environmental Justice on Thursday, Napolitano discussed the initial findings of the department’s recently created “Climate Change and Adaptation Task Force.”

Napolitano explained that the task force was charged with “identifying and assessing the impact that climate change could have on the missions and operations of the Department of Homeland Security.”

According to the former Arizona governor, the task force would address specific questions, including:

“How will FEMA work with state and local partners to plan for increased flooding or wildfire or hurricane activity that is more serious than we’ve seen before? What assistance can the Coast Guard bring to bear to assist remote villages in, for example, Alaska which already have been negatively affected by changes up in the Arctic?”

The findings from the Homeland Security Department (DHS) also asked: “(H)ow can we focus on how climate change is going to affect our rural citizenry including those who live along our borders both northern and southern?”

The conference did not define “environmental justice,” and the only reference to the task force that can be found is on the DHS Web site. The June 2010 Department of Homeland Security Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan states “climate change has the potential to accelerate and intensify extreme weather events which threaten the nation’s sustainability and security.”

This is just as ludicrous, as when Obama’s chief of NASA Charles Bolden proclaimed during an interview, that his #1 priority was “outreach to the Muslim nations”. Funny, I thought NASA’s mission was manned and unmanned space exploration.
Makes as much sense as Homeland Security scope including “climate change”.

Lest anyone forgets, DHS is an arm of the law enforcement community. Orwell is alive and well. At least, his ominous premonitory is.
Cold is hot and war is peace, and soon, to say otherwise, will be criminal.
Not so much OT, http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/12/16/trusted-traveler-program-lets-mexicans-skip-some-airport-security-checkpoints/
I can only come to one of two conclusions. Either this administration thinks very little of the citizens they are sworn to protect, or they’re racists that don’t consider our friends to the south adequate for the purposes of groping. They apparently assume criminal intent from their own countrymen before others. If having one’s own opinion and conclusions regarding climate change is criminalized, then maybe they’re right.

So did they ASK folks in remote Alaska if they needed help from the Feds? I hope the governor replied “Nuts”.

According to the EPA, humans exhale approx. 1kg of CO2 per day.
Currently there is according to both the GAO and DHS an estimated 12 million illegals in the U.S. That means 12 million kg of CO2 is being produced each day….creating a clear and present danger to our climate.
Dammit, Janet! Get on it!!
That’s over 2 Million Tons of illegal CO2/year going unchecked!!

Is this woman terminally stupid or what ? Do these idle politicians have to take classes in stupidity; or does it just come naturally to them ?
Maybe that’s what indicates to persons, that they should be come politicians; they are just dumber than a box of rocks, and too stupid to land a real job.
This is the woman who as a former governor of Arizona couldn’t even keep a few illegal Mexican invaders out of her State.
So now she is going to protect all of us from the weather.

“What assistance can the Coast Guard bring to bear to assist remote villages in, for example, Alaska which already have been negatively affected by changes up in the Arctic?”
I imagine the Coast Guard will have to start boarding TSA agents to administer pat-downs of the poor refugees fleeing all the starved polar bears and flooding due to all that floating sea ice melting and raising the sea level…oh, and all those monsoons up there.
…or something.
And they actually spend taxpayer money (and their time) on such nonsense.

Te ‘Daily Onion’ could not come up with a better parody of how deranged CO2 obsession makes people.
It is so far past time for Janet to be an ex-government bureaucrat……

I think this potentially is a very scary development. It is my understanding that down here in Washington DC the EPA now has an enforcement branch that includes an armed component. The EPA had agents at the range I use, practicing their firearm skills.
Environmental justice will now be assured with whatever means is necessary.

Why is the idea of a warming planet always so negitive with these people?
I’m from BC and was looking forward to the predicted rise in temp. All we have gotten in the last few years though is a longer “ice out” on our lake and poorer corn because of late frost in the spring and early frost in the fall. If this is the way it’s going to be, I’m moving south!

This is quite, quite mad. Even the language is messianic, never mind the intent. I hope your congress sorts this bloody lot out.

Well considering the pathetic job they’ve been doing letting guns and explosives on planes failing 50 out of 70 tests in one airport and 30 out of 60 in another plus some well publicized events like letting a man bring carry on luggage contain a loaded Glock …..
Maybe they can do for “climate warming/change” what they have done for security! Make it into a laughing stock to the whole world. Oh wait they’ve been beat to the punch by Hansen, Mann & Jones. Oh well with a bit of effort they’ll fit right in.
Battling climate change? Tide, I command thee not to come in!! I mean it! Don’t make me come out there!

“Environmental justice,” “social justice”_ All hubris from the self-rightous global socialists! What justice did Lenin, or Pol Pot or, Stalin (“socialism in one country”), or Hitler (“National Socialism”) or Mao ever bring to their people? Obama’s scheme is neither good for the environment nor just.

Everything is a security issue to these nitwits, except real security issues like Islamic terrorism. Chinese and Russian spying, the border, organized foreign crime, industrial espionage. No. What these politicians (spit) are most concerned about is the weather, childhood obesity, and capitalism.

Here’s how the EPA defines “environmental justice”:
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
In other words, lawsuit bait.

Truth is, battling the effects of climate change….
….is a hell of a lot easier than doing their real job

Douglas
December 20, 2010 4:34 pm

How do they define how much ‘change’ is needed before they commence ‘battle’ – and then – when do they know wben it has been ‘restored’ sufficiently to withdraw forces?
Just wondering

The DHS just needs to develope a small snow shovel they can attach to the muzzle of an assault rifle, so while they’e not shooting terrorists, they can be out shoveling that jihadist white stuff from walks and driveways. Works for me.
