Essay by Eric Worrall
European Net Zero policies appear to have created a total dependency on imported fossil fuel.
France Killed the Hormuz Vote. Its Ships Paid Iran to Cross the Same Day.
France co-vetoed the UN Hormuz resolution the same day CMA CGM paid Iran $2M in yuan to cross. How Iran’s sorting mechanism splits the Western coalition.
April 4, 2026
DUBAI — On April 3, 2026, France co-vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution that would have authorised military force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — and on the same day, the Malta-flagged CMA CGM Kribi, owned by the world’s third-largest container shipping line, completed its transit of the Strait after coordinating directly with Iranian maritime authorities and paying a $2 million toll in Chinese yuan. No major outlet has connected these two events, which is remarkable, because they are the same event viewed from different altitudes: Paris chose commerce over coalition, and Tehran designed the system to make that choice inevitable.
…
The sequence matters more than either event in isolation. Before entering Iranian territorial waters, the CMA CGM Kribi changed its AIS destination field to read “Owner France” — a deliberate signal to Iranian maritime authorities that the vessel belonged to a nation Tehran considered politically useful, according to Al Jazeera and FreightWaves reporting from April 3. The Kribi’s AIS transponder was then switched off entirely during the crossing, standard practice for all vessels using the IRGC-controlled Larak corridor, and the ship navigated the approved channel between the islands of Qeshm and Larak under what Euronews described as “coordination with Iranian maritime authorities.”
…
Hours later, at the Security Council in New York, France joined China and Russia in co-vetoing the US-backed Chapter VII resolution that would have authorised military force to reopen the Strait. Macron’s stated position — that a military operation would be “unrealistic” and would expose naval forces to IRGC attacks, and that Hormuz “can only be reopened in consultation with Iran” — reads very differently when a French-owned ship had already consulted with Iran that morning and found the terms acceptable. The consultation Macron described as a future diplomatic aspiration was, for CMA CGM, a completed commercial transaction settled before the Security Council had finished voting.

The reason for this immediate capitulation is obvious. Net Zero policies have weakened Europe to the point they have to keep imported fossil fuel flowing.
This surrender to Iran’s toll without any attempt at exploring other options follows on from vigorous French support for buying fossil fuel from Russia during the Ukraine invasion.
The only questions, when will the rest of Europe and Britain join the French in paying a toll to Iran? How will Europe respond if Iran raises the Hormuz Strait transit fee? Will France continue and build on their new policy of cooperation with Russia in the United Nations, by supporting Russian interests in other ways? After all, Net Zero Britain and Europe need Russian gas just as much as they need Persian Gulf oil.
USA can blockade just as easily as Iran can.
France can no longer be considered an ally of the USA.
Just hold the paid non-ally ships outside the strait until everything is released.
I’m surprised that I haven’t seen the old “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” epithet used.
And France is almost alone in that it has at least some small measure of energy independence (its nuclear energy generation). Most of the rest of Europe capitulated to the elitist green blob long ago.
We recall the German UN delegation snickering at Trump’s UN warning of the energy dependency their insane green policies invited.
Or maybe they realise that generating 100% of electricity from renewables (nuclear) makes ZERO difference to the need for fossil fuels as a source for just about everything. Mad Ed take note.
Well the truth is somewhat in between
Electricity is pretty useless for ‘off grid’ power.
But the myth that ‘we need oil to make stuff out of’ is simply not true. It happens to be the most convenient and cheap feedstock, but that’s it, It’s not irreplaceable.
Eventually it will have to be replaced. Oil/gas reserves are not infinite
This is not a myth for the amount of plastics needed. The only alternatives are:
Plant-based Biofuels. Not cost effective or easily scaled.
Recycling existing plastics. This can only be done once or maybe twice as the quality degrades each time.
Hydrogen and methane. Very expensive and very hard to scale.
Leo, your position on Oil/Gas not being infinite is of course correct. That simple reality does not mean anything though, when dealing in the human world time scales. Oil and Gas will be around for as long as they are needed by human requirements. They will never run out because of consumption per se. The reduction in oi/gas will happen when synthesis of those basic hydro carbons are economically available from abundant, cheap, and reliable 24/7/365 electrical power production.
Note, that day will not present itself while electricity production is expensively maintained by intermittent means of production such as wind turbines and solar panels.
“ It happens to be the most convenient and cheap…”
Geddaway! Imagine us choosing convenient and cheap over the opposite. Well I never.
Sane people chose to do X instead of Y, because X is more convenient and cheap. Even animals have figured this out.
Convenient and cheap = rich instead of being poor.
That’s how the World works and what has made Humans wealthy instead of their natural state of poverty.
The idea that we should stop using oil and gas now, because in 400 to 500 years, it’s going to run out anyway, is pretty stupid.
Go ahead and start using more expensive processes, meanwhile the countries that continue to use the inexpensive stuff will compete your country into the dust.
You have little understanding of how much Man uses. As of 2020, the total weight of all human-made mass (buildings, roads, plastics) has officially surpassed the weight of all living biomass on Earth, roughly 1.1 teratonnes. biomass The thought of running out of oil one day is disconcerting, but running out of biomass would be apocalyptic.
I thought I saw something several months ago about how France was planning to reduce its use of nuclear energy.
The reverse,. They are planning more reactors.
https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/nuclear-central-in-frances-latest-energy-strategy
France’s 59 nuclear reactors were built in the 60s/70s by State-owned EDF at huge taxpayer expense and provided price-capped electricity (also funded by taxpayers).
In fact the reactors never operated at maximum efficiency because their deliverable output significantly exceeded demand – this is why France exported a large amount of electricity to other European Countries. 80% of French demand was supplied by nuclear.
As the Net Zero madness developed, it was decided that France didn’t really need about a third of its reactors and they should be decommissioned and replaced by wind power, with a view to replacing the rest in due course as they reached end of operational life. Bags of virtue signalling “investing in” renewables – bear in mind nuclear was not considered “renewable” until about five minutes ago.
The reality of “renewables” and their famed unreliability dawned. Maintenance had been discontinued on many of the reactors as it was not considered to be worth the expense if they were soon to be shut down. So – unsurprisingly – these started to break down – about half the fleet had to be withdrawn from the grid. But never mind, wind would fill the gap, except Zut alors! it didn’t and France came very close to electricity rationing. Hurried repair was carried out on the reactors hors service to get them back on line, tout de suite.
President Macron decided that nuclear was the way forward and the reactor fleet should get new reactors to replace the old ones. However EDF who owned the reactors and now a private company could not raise the capital – despite what people like to think, nuclear isn’t cheap, has a long pay-back time, needs Government support with taxpayers’ cash, and guaranteed above-market prices.
So EDF has been renationalised and the French taxpayer will get stuck with the cost (again) but will have “cheap” electricity… if they only look at their electricity bill and not their tax bill. At least, unlike the Yookay and Germany and other lunatic run Countries, they will have electricity.
Thanks for that explanation.
“I thought I saw something several months ago about how France was planning to reduce its use of nuclear energy.”
That should read “years” rather than “months”.
I’m based in France, but entering “France nuclear Hollande 50%” into DDG to double-check led me to a couple of “useful” summaries.
First the Wikipedia … usually a good starting point, but worth “fact-checking” anyway … “Nuclear power in France” page :
A second article is on the “World Nuclear Association” website, which is hardly impartial, but starts with a valid (according to my reading around the subject) summary much more succinct than anything I could come up with :
Maybe the US should look at this as a method of funding terrorism and blockade all French flagged vessels or vessels destined for French interests.
Funding terrorism= american foreign policy.
Especially under Biden and Obama. !
Independent from whom has been in office. Basically since WW2.
Regime change via overt and covert operations has been pretty much standard. Providing weapons and information to highly dubious actors and groups. Sadam for instance in the war against Iran which Iran of course remembers. And yes, quite a lot during Obama. Not quite the nice man portrayed. And then giving him the Nobel Peace Price. Goes to show reality as is..
And Biden, well, that man was clearly one of the worst POTUS ever.
True under Obama and Biden
This would be quite the satire as the USA is the biggest founder of terrorism –
starting with Bin Laden,MAK , Khost tunnels,
all the US and Israel hating terrorist who fought alongside the USA in Lybia&Syria and Iraq and were even treated in Israely hospitals,
the 2000 % increase in Heroin production after the US entered Afghanistan(” My request to fight Opium production was shut down by Kerry, because most of this Heroin went to Iran and Russia to weaken their population” John Kiriakou)
the current sponsoring of terrori… freedom fighters in Burma,
the Gladio terror attacks in Europe,
delivering military equipment to Mexican drug cartels (fast&furious scandal),
blowing up Cuban planes like the one in Barbados, after blowing it up in Jamaica failed,
– even 90% of terror attacks on US soil are connected to the Fbi(read Terror Factory)
and that’s why even the Empire State Building bomber was never jailed as he worked with the FBI.
Just as Rockefeller friend Aaron Russo said a few decades ago:
“There will be a war on terror, a fake war because we fund those terrorists.”
USA fighting terrorism won’t happen as this would be like a self inflicted Auto-Immune disease.
If you want to know the scale: the USA was involved in 260+ military interventions since 1991(Ben Norton).
Now try to find in how many Iran was involved during the same timeframe,
then you know who the terrorists are.
You are a Russia, aren’t you..
We can tell from the blatant propaganda you have swallowed.
Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
I did nazi that coming.
It did of course not start w Bin Laden.
Have a look at what the US did visavis Indonesia in the 1960s and the organised coup putting Suhartu in power, resulting in genocide in Timor w at least 1/2 million dead.
The only way for France to get away from oil are renewables, EVs and alternatives for oil in the chemical industry.
https://www.worldometers.info/oil/france-oil/
Nobody wants to follow a failing trump that has no clear plan beside praising allah.
Europe go ahead and have your party of stupid. The nut zero people are crazy.
The less that Europe wants oil, the more for the rest of us.
That’s the way I look at it. 🙂
“The only way for France to get away from oil are renewables, EVs and alternatives for oil in the chemical industry.”
Ohmyloosername, you just won’t get it. Will you ever?
You always present an answer that is not really an answer. It is a dogma based on a fantasy. The fantasy being that ‘we’ have to do more when things are not working out as planned.
Ironically exactly the same as those proponents of war w Iran.
It’s the Vietnam syndrom.
You are both part of the problem.
You both live in lala land..
The US will be fine
Three decades of renewable failure, but just a little more time and it will all be solved. I don’t think I need a /sarc tag.
Eric, remember the unspoken about benefits of ever expanding wind and solar generating installations. The more they build the more curtailment revenue they earn and the more expensive electrical energy prices are becoming to simply pay for these growing curtailment periods.
Here in the UK we have greater capacity installed via wind and solar than the grid can handle. Despite that fact, ever more auctions with guaranteed state funding for excess supply periods that force constraint payments are happening. The contracts are being presented by government as a a no lose bet for those building them.
The result of this madness is unaffordable electricity prices and the destruction of industry.
France as next to ZERO wind or solar.
If they shut down nuclear they will have to boost their Coal, Oil and Gas usage.
France has a widely dispersed rural population and agricultural economy, with relatively small urban populations. Piped gas is available only in cities and towns. Most of rural France is dependent on LPG or oil or wood for heat and cooking, with little public transport outside towns and cities.
The rural population is heavily dependent on private vehicles which use mostly diesel as does their farm equipment.
Due to its large area, terrain, dispersed population, the electricity grid was poorly developed with many rural locations without electric supply. About 20 years ago ErDF the grid operator embarked upon a comprehensive extension and upgrade to the grid.
However the standard domestic supply is 3kVA, with 6kVA, 9kVA, 12 kVA and 15kVA supplies at extra monthly cost, local cabling permitting. I lived in France in a small town until a few years ago, and my supply was 6kVA. I had all electric heating. There was a device on the distribution board to switch off a circuit in the house if the demand exceeded the supply capability, then after 30 minutes if the excess load requirement continued, to switch a different circuit off and restore power to the other.
By contrast most older British homes have standard domestic 20kVA supply, and new builds or upgrades from the 90s onward were 80kVA, and over the last decade or so 100kVA.
Now you actually know about the French energy situation, you might be able to make an informed, intelligent comment about “the only way for France” rather than the one you made.
Urban population is 80%, 2.5% of the population work in agriculture. Main expansion of the grid was under De Gaulle with close to 100 percent of the population having grid access at latest in the 90s.
It’s not so much “just” Net Zero as despising a landbound neighbour far in the east…well what shall I say? Foolish lemming realizing that he’s already over the cliff and pretends to somehow soften the fatal impact? too sarcastic?
What is the point of this article appearing in WUWT?
It has nothing to do with the net zero malaise in Europe or climate change in general, because the vessel wasn’t even a tanker but a container ship bound for the Ivory Coast.
You really can’t add 2 + 2 ?
Indeed
The point is to have a headline and the article is to creates a certain story. Because this whole “if not for net zero europe could be energy independend” with a thinly veiled sidedish of “Europe bows to muslims” doesn’t hold up to reality.
No amount of trump screaming and whining on twitter will open the strait, and him delaying his 48 hour deadline again and again just shows how helpless he is to solve the problem he created.
Like the US? Weak support for Ukraine, inflating oil prices with the Iran war and easing oil sanctions on russia. While trying to break up NATO and alienate allies?
But the article feels good, and that’s what’s important here. Meanwhile Europe and the rest of the world are trying to find workable solutions. Something unheard of in the current of US cabinet.
Maybe firing you experienced generals and making a fox news host with a drinking problem and christian-nationalist tattoos a defense secretary was a bad idea. Wasn’t there something about “wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross…”?
Guess I was wrong. It’s not about the oil. It’s a new crusade.
“No amount of trump screaming and whining on twitter will open the strait”
wanna bet on that?
“Like the US? Weak support for Ukraine”
The US has done more than any other nation. Besides, it ain’t our war!
Basically everything the MUNT says is provably incorrect..
I’ve never seen such bad luck. ! 😉
The US has done more for Russia than it has for Ukraine.
But its OK, The Arab gulf states are doing deals for drone defence with Ukraine, not the US. Big Beautiful Tariff Free deals…
Once the US announced its not only not going to defend its allies, but actually support their enemies, and restrict the use of its very expensive technology only to people it likes today, it was inevitable that the rest of the world would realise the US defence technology is essentially useless, and look elsewhere for weapons that actually work, supplied by partners who do not attach conditions to its deployment.
As always, never mistake confidence for competence.
Europe moved from Russia to Iran for Hydrocarbons…trading dictator for a dictator. Now on to China…Europe can’t help their stupidity.
Yes, radical Leftwing government in Europe seems incapable of dealing with reality.
It’s the same with radical Leftwing Democrat government in the United States. Both groups are incapable of dealing with reality and is especially problematic when these leftwingers are put in charge of national defense.
It’s Ironic, but the radical leftists in the West who aspire to be dictators in their own nations, cannot deal with murderous dictators. Their first instinct is to run away; to appease. They are not fit to handle the national defense of our nations. Not the Lefties in Europe and not the Lefties in the Democrat Party.
Some in the United States complain about “Forever Wars”.
What they are really complaining about are “Democrat Forever Wars”.
When Democrats are in charge, they hold the U.S. military back and prevent them from closing with and destroying the enemy. So when Democrats are in charge the wars go on and on because Democrats will not put out a maximum effort. Their whole focus is to restrain the U.S. military. They would never initiate a military action like the one Trump is carrying out right now in Iran.
If Democrats get back in the Whitehouse, they will undo every good thing that comes from this war just as the did in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Republicans win the military battles, the Democrats come in and throw it all away.
If you don’t want Forever Wars, then keep Democrats as far away as possible from any policy decisions.
Obama and Biden gave Ukraine pillows and blankets when Putin invaded.
Trump gave Ukraine javelin anti-armor weapons.
Trump taking nuclear weapons away from religious fanatics in Iran takes priority over every other thing including sanctioning Russian oil.
The war will be over soon and sanctions will be reimposed.
Joker, and you will have to cope soon enough..
Didn’t the US give like 500 billion to Ukraine?
The last figure I recall was about $365 billion for Ukraine.
A lot of that money went to humanitarian aid, but I don’t know the breakdown.
That’s OK and very over due.
Europe did not try to find ‘workable solutions’ visavis Ukraine.
Neither did Trump. He just played the game of pretending to be the mediator. Biden’s war was simply the US war. And Trump did nothing to stop it. He couldve walked away. He didnt. Because the west ie US is at war w Russia w cheerleader UK, since Obama in 2008. Covertly. And betrayed Russia multiple times over the years. Always in ‘negotiation’ but never follow up, as admitted by many in and outside the US. Always pushing and never retreating.
The western public is clueless..
You are so butthurt
and yet you came here and read it.
Yes, because I pay a subscription to access a generally excellent sceptical climate change web site with some great articles and debates on climate science.
Only when I got into the article did I realise that it was the headline was rubbish and the article simply political click bait.
Such articles degrade WUWT and Anthony should be concerned that they get onto the site.
That’s the problem with slogan politics like “America First“.
Pretty soon, you find that only Americans agree with that & then, instead of cooperating, everyone starts thinking ‘NO, my nation first’ … then the shit hits the fan.
Still, it’s good for the arms trade.
‘America first’ was supposed to mean: concentrate on american needs. Stop funding foreign interventions. Pull out american forces from oversees etc.
Not: more money to fund wars and push hegemony and support Usraeli expansion, which is what we got and why Trump is quickly losing support, ironically ‘ more than any american President before’ ( to use Trumpspeak).
“Trump is quickly losing support”
You’re hallucinating again.
https://www.economist.com/interactive/trump-approval-tracker
You actually believe polls? And to a tenth of a point? The polls have always said Trump couldn’t win an election. He won the last one bigly.
Yeah I never got why people get so wrapped up in specious polls conducted when there’s no imminently pending election.
Everything changes when election dates are set and campaigns begin.
Even then, pollsters’ results are on par with IPCC climate modeling.
(in hindsight, they can both say –
“hhmm, well that didn’t work out as we expected. . . “)
Trump does say “America First”, but he also encourages other national leaders to put their countries first, too.
Right, and that’s what the Europeans are saying now- but, their thinking isn’t clear. It’s way more in their interest to at least minimally assist the US in this war.
The evidence is EVERYWHERE. Not just the usual anti Trump outlets.
Open yr ffin eyes
Of course there are a lot of people who hate Trump. He didn’t get 90% of the vote. But of course yr ffin eyes are closed to the reality that many people like Trump.
So many of those that hate Trump do it with a deep visceral, deranged, manic, rabid, soul-destroyed hatred.
There is nothing else in their life.
It is really sad to watch the extreme effort they put into their hatred. 😉
Some get it at TDS University.
How’s your Dutch KING going ??
Trump is gaining massive support from countries near Iran…
… and from the ordinary people within Iran.
They want the mad mullahs gone just as much as Israel and the USA do.
Every nation has always been about itself first- but they may not say so. Trump likes to get things out in the open. As for the arms trade, it’s a good one!
The trouble is Trump’s America First policies are actually damaging America massively. not only in terms of the national economy, but in terms of international trade, international global policies and the ability to be a global power at all.
You cannot be isolationist AND interventionist and in partnership with allies.
Trump has pissed on Europe/NATO over Ukraine. And Europe is now eating popcorn watching him screaming for help in Hormuz.
NATO is for defence of members who are attacked. Trump did the attacking.
No matter what the moral justification (unusual to see Trump using that excuse) for toppling the Iranian regime might be, failing to topple it while cleaning up on oil futures is corrupt and incompetent.
Trump had better STFU if he wants to continue to use European bases to launch his attacks.
America’s economy is doing better than most. America now has the largest oil production and power over Venezuela’s oil and influence over Iraq’s oil production. It will soon have power over all oil in the Persian Gulf. It has the best weapons on the planet. It has a diverse population enhancing it’s long term potential. It has the best navy and air force on the planet by a long shot. It has the most prestigious (though mostly woke) universities on the planet. It has 2 very long coastlines facing the Atlantic and Pacific. It has astronauts heading to the moon. Millions of people desperately want to come to America. But you and the other woke and TDS folks here think America is washed up.
Cheapskate Europeans need to start paying.
Yes, certain European nations have been getting a free ride from the Unites States for too long.
I think that is getting ready to change.
Lilly-livered European Leftwing Politicians all puffed up over Trump because Trump is exposing their weakness, to their populations, and the whole world.
They better hope Ukraine can hold back Putin because he sees weakness in Western European nations.
You are correct, the appeasers hate it when some stops appeasing the dictators.
“Trump did the attacking.”
WRONG.
Iran has been attacking most of western society for nigh on 47 years. !
He is doing this for the defence of all the world..
The lefties and wimps in Europe are just too stupid not to realise it.
It is not America that needs the oil.. it is Europe.. they need to come and get it.
Well, reality hits hard when energy is at stake. And Europe is just waking up to it. Net Zero created more dependance not less so supply chain hickups really hit. And Trump and Netanyahu have managed to pull down the petrodollar system by going to war w Iran. The unintended consequences:
Iran has now set the terms and conditions: don’t actively support the US military and pay in any other currency than the petrodollar. Then you are free to go.
The US has lost control. It had influence by not trying to control the persian gulf which almost every advisor warned about, even during Bush jr , to his credit, when all the neocons wanted to. Free trade rules, remember? Make it easy for countries to join the system by pushing down barriers and restrictions. Well, the US, especially under Trump halted all that. The US as the victim! Pathetic.
And both Russia and China (and to some degree India) are offering those opportunities now. It is an easy choice.
The bully eventually always loses. You cannot sustain all that wasted energy..
“Iran has now set the terms and conditions”
That’s absurd. Iran is crushed and will take a generation to recover. You really hope that America’s policies will crash. You’d much prefer Iran to have nukes and whether you believe it or not, it would nuke Israel and there you’d have WWIII.
Bush Jr.? The nitwit? Dumb as a brick. And you praise him? No he didn’t do anything about the strait but he started a war in Iraq over supposed WMD despite there being zero evidence. Then a few weeks after starting it, he flew a jet onto an aircraft carrier with a big sign on the ship that said “mission accomplished”. Truly the dumbest president in US history.
For being crushed they are keeping the world hostage and pose a massive threat to their neighbours just fine
It won’t last long. Timid people are now so fearful- they can’t imagine how to resolve the problem. Trump can and will.
LOL!. I’ll get my supply of US made popcorn while I can.
Vietnam
Afghanistan
Iran.
Great nations do make mistakes. The UK did, back when it had testosterone, but it had a great empire. You win some you lose some. The Romans also lost many battles and wars but it lasted a millennium and actually 2 millennium if you include the Byzantium. Though it lost in ‘Nam, there was no further effort to expand communism in SE Asia. It lost in Afghanistan but I think that nation lost much worse and it’s now deep in the dark ages. When it had a big earthquake, not many from other nations went to there to help it. Wokesters and TDS’ers just love that America has made mistakes as you hate it so much- which is mostly envy, now living in woke, neutered nations on the way to their green dark age.
The mistake the great nation of the United Sates makes is electing Radical Democrats to positions of political power.
They screw things up every time.
Yuh, tell me about it. I live in Wokeachusetts!
Vietnam and Afghanistan were won, until the left decided to cut and run, leaving our allies to suffer.
Yuh, I think you’re right on that. Now they can’t even wait a few months! And their whining that dropping a bridge is a war crime! How insane is that?
“they are keeping the world hostage and pose a massive threat to their neighbours”
Iran has been doing that for 47 years. !!
Why are you supporting a brutal Islamic terrorist regime that has massacred tens of thousands of its own people ???
Like most socialists, they hate the US more than they love life.
More good reasons to bomb the living shit out of them.
I think Biden and Carter would be dumber.
Bush wasn’t dumb, he just would not fight back against the Leftwing Media. They would lie constantly about him and he would not push back. That was his big fault.
Imagine then the reaction of the Leftwing Media when Trump came on the scene. Just the opposite of the mild-mannered Bush. And the Left hates Trump for fighting back and especially because he is winning and making them look like the fools they are.
Go, Trump!
[“Truly the dumbest president in US history.”]
only to be Trumped … by Trump,
who will be remembered in history, but for all the wrong reasons.
Did you enjoy going to TDS University?
Someone should send Jane Fonda to Iran so that she can finally ditch the “Hanoi Jane” moniker.
Too funny.
Now that I think about it, she could head a team that would include Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates.
No, Biden was but at least Joey had as excuse…he is brain dead.
Saddam Insane, himself, promoted the idea that he had an active weapons-of-mass-destruction program ongoing.
After the war was over some of Saddam’s generals were questioned and they thought Saddam had WMD.
After the war, 600 tons of yellowcake uranium were removed from Iraq.
Saddam used poison gas (a WMD) on the Kurds and on the Iranians.
Saddam was given more than enough time to allow UN weapons inspectors to come inspect for WMD. Saddam refused it all.
If Saddam let inspectors in then the economic sanctions on Iraq would be lifted. But Saddam said no. That wouldn’t make you a little suspicious?
After “Major Combat” was over in Iraq and Saddam’s military was defeated, the aircraft carrier, Abraham Lincoln, was sailing back to the United States and Bush flew out to the carrier and landed on it to honor the sailors, and a huge banner was displayed on the ship spelling out “Mission Accomplished!”.
The “Mission Accomplished” banner was saying the aircraft carrier’s mission was accomplished. And it was, they were sailing back home.
But the lying Leftwing Media immediately distorted this banner and declared that Bush was so dumb that he thought all the fighting was over and he was declaring Mission Accomplished.
It was just another despicable lie from the Leftwing Media about a Republican president. They are ALWAYS looking to undermine a Republican president or any war effort.
Joseph, I’m afraid you were taken in by Leftwing Propaganda about Bush and the Iraq war. Just about everything they said about it was a lie or distortion.
After the war, mothballed chemical and nuclear laboratories were found that could have been started back up with little effort.
“Saddam was given more than enough time to allow UN weapons inspectors to come inspect for WMD. Saddam refused it all.”
hmmm…. I’m pretty sure some weapons inspectors did go in- including one guy, can’t recall his name, who was busted for being a pedophile- and now he’s having a love affair with Russia. I’m sure somebody here not as old as me can remember that guy’s name.
I probably was taken in– after all, I’ve lived in Wokeachusetts all my life. I only shook off the massive lies in recent years- after the green wokesters decided to destroy forestry to save the planet. Then I looked around at media outside Wokeachusetts.WUWT has truly opened my eyes- and now when I read what the wokesters and TDSers have to say here, I can see how foolish that view is. 🙂
Scott Ritter – Wikipedia
Right- that guy is one of the craziest ever. I think he was a marine. Now he talks about how glorious Russia is.
“The bully eventually always loses.”
So you admit the brutal genocidal Islamic Iranian Regime, which has bullied the local region, and was trying to expand its bullying world-wide, is on a hiding to nothing…
… and will eventually have to be deposed so some more rational and less zealot can bring Iran into the western world.
The bully is anyone who opposes international socialism.
At least that seems to be the definition used by those on the left.
“Hours later, at the Security Council in New York, France joined China and Russia in co-vetoing the US-backed Chapter VII resolution that would have authorised military force to reopen the Strait.”
No wonder Trump let loose some profanities. He’s going to do it his way.
[“He’s going to do it his way.”]
Then god help America… because nobody else will.
And America will remember. It’d be nice to get help but America is powerful enough to do it alone.
[“but America is powerful enough to do it alone.”]
Like the failures in …
Afghanistan: 2001 to 2021. It began with an invasion by a United States–led coalition under the name Operation Enduring Freedom:
The War of 1812 – Invasion of Canada:
The Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in 1961:
The Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia.(Black Hawk Down) 1993:
Vietnam 1954-1975:
Every great nation and empire made countless mistakes. Just like every human. So, what’s your point? With your obvious hatred of America, why are you here? Just to be annoying? The first major attempt for Rome to destroy Carthage failed because their entire army of 25,000 sunk in a storm. Did they give up? No, because Rome never agreed it ever lost a battle and just waited until it rebuilt its army. You childlike understanding is that if a nation has a failure it should just stop trying- like most of Europe.
[“With your obvious hatred of America”]
I don’t hate America or Americans, or any other country & their populations; however, I do despise certain groups & individuals from around the world – fanatical offshoots of the 3 main religions, scammers & con men, far left & far right extremists, liars & cheats like Blair & Bush, psychopathic bullies like Putin, Netanyahu & Trump, idiots like Miliband, Stammer, Biden & a lot of mainly corrupt politicians.
As you say, all nations and empires have blood on their hands, there’s no need to add to the list.
I pretty much agree but avoid the word hate- gets me bad karma. The human race going back to its origin is filled with horrific behavior. When I was younger and a bit of a hippy, I though primitive humans were groovy, lived in harmony, etc. In recent years, anthropologists say many of the ancient skulls they find of pre modern humans, going way, way back- showed that the person was murdered. Violence seems to be part of humanity and only partly tempered by civilization. A big question among UFO enthusiasts (and I’m one of them) is whether or not the ETs are also violent. The UFO and ETs are now a big story. Congress is now investigating the topic. Spielberg has a new film out this summer called Disclosure.
.[” Violence seems to be part of humanity and only partly tempered by civilization.“]
Yup, history shows, the veneer of civilisation is very thin.
For some reason this clown seems to like religious homicidal having nukes.
Most socialists would prefer a world without the US and Israel. Iran having nukes, promises both.
Their Shia theocracy posits belief in the 12th Mahdi, Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi, the final and twelfth Imam in Shia Islam, whom they believe to be the redeemer and having died in 868 will be resurrected and will return only after the Iranians destroy Israel.

But enough about America & Israel !!
What’s with all the retard trolls today? Go find another forum’s leg to hump, stinking trolls.
Did Donald Trump really have the option of not going to war with Iran?
If it’s obvious what will happen next, how come no-one predicted anything that has happened?
Those who desire peace should prepare for war. – Flavius Vegetius Renatus. Well, the Europeans didn’t and now they will pay a high price.
Well, for starters he used to be against it.
Anyway, i am done here with all the lies and propaganda. It has reached such a level that its toxicity is revolting.
Trump is trying to finish a war that Iran started 47 years ago.
Yes, The level of Iranian and leftist propaganda is rather putrid…
… and you keep falling for it.
TDS is an insidious brain disease..
They hate Trump with their very empty souls… so are forced to support everything that he is against.
Actions by retarded presidents attract retarded trolls
He who shits in the road, will meet flies on his return
So you are against stopping gender reassignment surgeries and drugs on children?
If Trump is a retarded president, that makes you a retarded troll.
He has attracted you… to make retarded comments.
Trump’s IQ is at least twice yours. !
And you know this … how ??
When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me.!!
Yeah, well we know the French will capitulate to any mad man and then when the shit hits the fan they want others to bail them out.
And it will most likely be us…never fails.
This amounts to antimatter for the Paris Climate Agreement.
🙂
Hormuz was classified by the UN as an international strait under its Law of the Sea convention. This guarantees the right of passage that cannot be blocked by coastal states which Iran disputes because it did not ratify LOS and holds itself to a more limited self-defined maritime law. However, if the UN does not defend and enforce its LoS what is the value of LoS or UN?
This is pure speculation on my part …. Trump’s attack on Iran might be motivated in part on a larger plan to reorder the world’s energy markets in ways which: (1) demonstrate the continuing role of fossil fuels in the world economy, and (2) which make those fossil fuels more valuable both to the countries which sell them and also to the countries which buy them on the world market.
If the war against Iran has some larger purpose — I don’t know for certain that it does or it doesn’t — then what is the ultimate goal of deliberately reordering the world market for fossil fuel energy? For one example, could America place an export tax on the fossil fuels it sells to other nations and use that money to pay down its national debt?
Hmm, ghastly cheese eating surrender monkeys all over again!!!
Hopefully, French Fries will be off the menu again in the USA.
Bring me some of those fine ‘ol Freedom Fries……
Some people in France say: “You see that dependence on fossil fuels is dangerous! No more oil, no more development.”
Obviously. And without oil, we would be scratching the ground with our fingernails and dying at 35 from anything and everything, so the question of our “unhealthy” dependence on fossil fuels wouldn’t even arise.
I’m glad that Macron showed common sense. He (or his supporters) should show even MORE common sense by allowing the extraction of shale gas, which the French subsoil is full of (thanks to Andy May for teaching me that!).
In theory, it could cover 80 to 90 years of consumption, and more concretely, a few decades (which is already good). But we have laws that strictly regulate, or even outright prevent, the exploration of deposits. So we’re not out of the woods yet.
When fossil fuel runs out, our descendants will have had a lot of time to figure out what comes next. And we already know one option – Thorium. Enough for thousands of years. After that it is someone elses problem.
Remember, it’s France. Their plan to end the conflict with Iran is to surrender to them.
What military operations to open Hormuz ? American Navy is hiding 1000 miles away and dares not venture close to Hormuz. What choice do the nations that need oil have?
I wouldn’t use hiding. There is strategy behind the move.
This article must have been linked on a leftist media feed. The nutters have converged. It’s revealing to see them side with the terrorists. It looks ironic, but actually they’ve found common ground. They hate the civilizing forces and the prosperity of Christian and Jewish culture. They destroy what others have built. Their policy prescriptions sound virtuous to them but the results are oppressive, disastrous, and deadly.
Trump is getting a new Iranian experience in the Art of the Deal.
The planet contains, in an excellent form, all the carbon required for chemists to make any carbon containing entity required- provided a stable sufficient supply of electricity and process heat is available. Nuclear thermal plants (and coal thermal plants to at least 2100) can provide the heat and electricity required.
