Essay by Eric Worrall
“… the delayers and defeatists are losing the climate fight …”
We delivered a clear message at Cop30: the delayers and defeatists are losing the climate fight
Ed Miliband
Mon 24 Nov 2025 04.57 AEDTFor all its flaws, the Brazil conference underlined the wish by a global majority for clean energy and climate action – and the UK will keep leading the way
…
It is true that Britain wanted more from this Cop, including details of how we would speed up the global energy transition through an agreement that explicitly pledged a roadmap for the transition away from fossil fuels. This didn’t happen because some countries would not agree.
Yet on this issue, we have seen the emergence of an impressive coalition of 83 countries from the global north and global south, backed by more than 140 global businesses and civil society groups. And Brazil will launch a roadmap to help countries transition away from fossil fuels and scale up clean energy.
…
The message coming out of Belém was clear: despite the noise, clean energy and climate action remain the foundation on which the global economy is being remade and rebuilt. We are up against the march of time and massive global forces that would slow down or stop action. In the face of this opposition, multilateralism is our best hope. For all its flaws, Cop has reaffirmed the belief of the vast majority of the world in this ideal. Those who would deny or prevent action are not winning the argument, they are losing.

Miliband’s analysis of COP30 is, how shall I put it, a bit of an outlier.
UN warns world losing climate battle but fragile Cop30 deal keeps up the fight
Reaching agreement in divisive political landscape shows ‘climate cooperation is alive and kicking’, says UN climate chief
Damian Carrington, Oliver Milman, Jonathan Wattsand Damien Gayle
Mon 24 Nov 2025 04.46 AEDTThe world is not winning the fight against the climate crisis but it is still in that fight, the UN climate chief has said in Belém, Brazil, after a bitterly contested Cop30 reached a deal.
…
“We knew this Cop would take place in stormy political waters,” said Simon Stiell, the UN’s climate chief, after a long and occasionally angry final plenary at the climate summit. “Denial, division and geopolitics has dealt international cooperation some heavy blows this year.”
But Cop30 showed that “climate cooperation is alive and kicking”, Stiell added, making an oblique reference to the US, which under Donald Trump opted not to send anyone to Belém. Trump, who has called the climate crisis a “hoax” and a “con job” has come to embody the opposition to progress on dealing with dangerous global heating.
Stiell said: “I’m not saying we’re winning the climate fight. But we are undeniably still in it, and we are fighting back. Here in Belém, nations chose unity, science and economic common sense. This year there has been a lot of attention on one country stepping back. But amid the gale-force political headwinds, 194 countries stood firm in solidarity – rock solid in support of climate cooperation.”

If even the UN is saying the world isn’t winning the climate fight, why is Miliband so positive?
Miliband’s plan to power Britain with solar panels is absurd. Even where I lived in the South of England, you were lucky to see the sun in Winter, with overcast skies and only 8 hours of daylight. Even when the sun does peak through, it is low in the sky, only 15º above the horizon in midwinter.
Wind turbines fare a little better in British winters, but Britain still sometimes suffers prolonged and bitterly cold wind droughts.
So long as those gas plants are required to prop up Britain’s fake green energy system, the owners of those plants will demand the same profits they would have made if the plants were operating full time, otherwise they’ll pack up and relocate somewhere more profitable. That is why green energy is such a failure, the hidden cost which has pushed up British energy prices.
Greens like Miliband are losing the climate fight, not just because of climate skeptics, but because the solutions they are pushing simply don’t work. Despite the positive thinking delusions of the climate faithful, sooner or later nations like Britain will run out of money to spend on fake green energy solutions. What happens next is anyone’s guess.
Good essay by Eric. What is the Return On Investment in these Climate Wars? Since the sea level rise continues in a straight-line, since the end of the Little Ice Age, and Trillions of dollars have been expended the ROI is zero. Who supports a Zero ROI? The persons/countries scamming the system, that’s who. Throw in China with another angle to promote chaos and it’s even worse. Stop it, already.
An impressive list of 83 countries? Deluded Mad Ed Milliband.
That’s 83 countries out of 193 member states of the UN. And those that signed mostly EU member states, small island states and several South American nations.
Where were China, India, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and most other Asian and African countries?
Hardly impressive in fact a rag tag bunch of climate fundamentalists, gold diggers and Trump haters.
No surprise here. Leftists and climate zealots live in an alternate reality. Ed is the dismembered knight assuring us that it’s just a flesh wound, that the Black Knight always triumphs.

Necessary correction to the text of The Guardian article quoted in the above article:
“For all its flaws, Cop has reaffirmed
theits beliefof the vast majority of the worldin this ideal.”OK, given that, so what?
Whatever he’s smoking, I don’t want any.
As usual, Miliband displays the two hallmarks of leftist zealotry at the same time – psychological projection and intellectual dishonesty. The enviro-activists are losing the climate fight, and Miliband isn’t merely lying to the public about his side being the winners, he’s lying to himself if he actually believes his own words.
Cabbage, mostly
And favourite to take over from Starmer too.
The man is a traitor to the UK and a friend to China.
No way. He’s working for Andy Burnham now… Besides, he had his chance in 2015… Remember the Edstone?
“Controls on immigration” Bwahahah!!
Lies come easily to the righteous.
None of the 6 items is
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
or Time Based.
At least they are all Relevant.
He got a photo of himself in front of ‘R Goals’ Like ArrrrRRrrrRrrr!!! Tapping into voter frustration with neither plans nor deadlines.
Here’s how number 6 would look if it were expressed as a SMART goal:
“10000 new homes built within 50 miles of London by January 2020”. I don’t know whether that number is achievable, but if I were running for office on that issue I’d find out quick.
Lies damned lies and criminal activity
Take over from Starmer as what, exactly?
Twat of the year?
The labour party isn’t going anywhere. No matter who wears the crown
Is Ed Miliband on something..? Some hallucinogenic preparation, perhaps..?
Suffering from an extreme case of self-delusion and being totally divorced from reality.
I hear Ayahuasca is popular in that area.
I asked Copilot your question. Here is the in depth analysis:
No. He’s just a moron. Plain and simple.
It’s called rampant Marxism.
why is Miliband so positive?
Because he is apparently unsackable.
“Starmer has been left bruised after he failed to sack Ed Miliband in his recent government reshuffle, prompting mockery on social media. ITV’s Robert Peston revealed that Sir Keir tried moving Mr Miliband away from his Net Zero portfolio and into Angela Rayner’s former housing ministry, suggesting he does not have faith in the former Labour leader to do the job.
Mr Miliband reportedly “refused” to leave the job – Express
Which leaves him and his brand of ‘climate leadership’ in the driving seat. Rewilding is certainly a big part of his vision.
April 2025
“Rewilding ‘risks catastrophic wildfires’
Experts warn. – Telegraph
November 2025
UK wildfires devastated more areas in 2025 than at any time since records began, figures show
Firefighters call for long-term investment and say UK is dangerously underprepared as climate crisis worsens – Grauniad
Bottom line is Mad Ed is going nowhere and doing pretty much as he pleases.
“Mr Miliband reportedly “refused” to leave the job”
How does that happen?
I’m imagining Trump firing someone, and that someone refusing to leave. I don’t think that would happen with Trump.
What’s so special about Miliband?
I think Miliband is so positive, because he is so delusional. And Starmer can’t fire a delusional Miliband? You guys are really screwed. Miliband is going to continue to destroy the UK economy with his Net Zero delusions. Miliband thinks he is leading the world!
I feel very sorry for the people in the UK. They deserve a lot better than this. Radical Leftist thinking will be the death of the Western World.
Grok tells me that in the UK the Prime Minister possesses the “royal prerogative to appoint and dismiss” members of his cabinet, no two weeks notice, just go. So what does Ed Miliband have on Keir Starmer?
I wonder whether Miliband can fire Starmer?
Mad rEd Milibean is not Green he is Marxist. His objective is not Net Zero it is the destruction of capitalism and he is well on the way to achieving it. In the UK anyway.
If that’s Miliband’s goal, he is doing a good job ot it.
I think he is just seriously delusional. He thinks his Net Zero efforts are a “good” thing that will save the world that needs saving. I’m not sure how he incorporates the UK’s economic downfall into that thought process. Maybe he thinks the UK economy comes second to saving the world from CO2. He certainly acts that way.
Red Ed (a Marxist fanatic) should be put somewhere for his own good.
Tom Nelson sums up UK education – in tandem with the BBC
I think education might be the source of our problems today. The Leftists took over the schools and look at what they produced.
Miliband is so demented he thinks his morning shit is another step towards a glorious ‘Nut Zero’ !!
Forced transitions now!
What happens next?
Simple
Torches and pitchforks.
Definitive rejection of the Left if we’re lucky. Some flavor of full-blown collectivism if we’re not.
…and hemp rope.
And finally…
COP30 Victory
Khan Forces Greater London Authority Staff to Spend a Full Day on ‘Climate Literacy Training’
Staff working for the Greater London Authority have instructed staff to spend a full 9-5 day receiving ‘climate literacy training.’ Is Khan organising this from New York…. Guido
Should start with thermodynamics…
The staff should be learn about the Köppen Climate Classification System
(See Wikipedia).
Wladmir Köppen (1846-1940) and his colleague Rudolf Geiger (1894-1981) were meteorologist and the first climate scientists.
The Kōppen -Geiger Classification of climates is natural and intuitive, based as it is on plant life and completely independent of dubious and sparse temperature measurements.
For some reason, Climate “Scientists” ignore it completely.
Who has decided what climate literacy is . . . ?!
If such is compulsorily determined by the utter idiot that is Khan, who happens to be entirely unqualified in terms of any science and engineering . . .
And you know what? – the people of these islands are allowing themselves, while still in the vast majority, to be marginalised by this this type of utter bullsh#t.
“The message coming out of Belém was clear: despite the noise, clean energy and climate action remain the foundation on which the global economy is being remade and rebuilt.”
This has been the purpose all along and so stated on numerous occasions by UN officials.
It has nothing to do with the environment, per UN pronouncements.
“… the delayers and defeatists are losing the climate fight …”
That is why they are pushing global censorship. The “countering misinformation” proposals says they are losing.
When the thug has no viable riposte a punch in the gob usually does the job.
Joseph Goebbels would be so proud of Miliband. Propagandists by any other title…
Even as I speak , gas in Britain has to put out over 21 GW.
It is not peak tea-time demand yet. It is very sunny today for November, and there is some wind around.
And still we have to have gas over 21 GW.
What is the maximum gas available to Britain? 25GW? What will happen on a 6pm on a cold December?
Miliband’s Net Zero delusions have you on the edge of disaster.
What’s left of our industry will be paid eye-watering amounts to switch off demand to prevent politically damaging blackouts.
Sadly, we need a 1947/1963 winter & a lot of deaths from hypothermia to get the public to fight back against this stupidity.
We have a bit more than that.Probably 30GW all in
Interestingly right now the UK is exporting electricity to Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ireland. Only importing from France and Belgium – both with nuclear power.
There is a blocking high across Scandinavia, the North Sea and NW Europe.
Wind power is very low.
And it isn’t even winter yet…
Did this clown find a way to get China to stop building coal plants? Don’t recall seeing China at COP30.
“China played a prominent role at COP30, the 2025 UN climate conference in Brazil, by showcasing its leadership in renewable energy technologies and influencing the negotiations. China highlighted its contributions to the global energy transition, advocating for its role as a developing economy and promoting its green technologies like solar panels and electric vehicles”
I know the Google AI result takes a propaganda-friendly view of it, I was just checking to see whether I remembered correctly they were reportedly there.
Yes and photos shows a picture of the COP30 China Pavilion (amuses me its written in English by an Asian nation for a South American trade show). Enough humans report being there that I trust the photos.
Reuters article with photo of china pavilion says “Long a skeptic of climate change, Trump has again pulled the United States – the world’s largest historic emitter – from the landmark international Paris Agreement to limit global warming. This year, for the first time ever, he declined to send an official high-level delegation to represent U.S. interests at the summit.”
Hmmm, that made me google again…
“Total CO2 emissions by country
China: The largest emitter, with emissions significantly increasing over the years.
United States: The second-largest emitter.
India: The third-largest emitter, with emissions also growing substantially.
Russia: Ranks as the fourth-largest emitter.
Japan: Ranks as the fifth-largest emitter.”
I should clarify. I don’t recall anyone important being at COP30.
I was told that snow was a thing of the past
That sounds like the daily express. When it forecasts snow, I break out my Bikini…
However ask Anthony about sudden stratospheric warming blah blah. NW Europe could (50%?) be in for some cold weather…
NW Europe could (100%!) be in for some weather.
Ed lives in his own little world.
And he probably wants everybody in the UK to join him.
tonight – gas providing >50% of UK electric power. Renewables 25%…..and winter hasn’t got going yet…
“gas providing >50% of UK electric power. Renewables 25%”
At 20:45, gas = 53% of UK electric power. Renewables 19%. 9% from our ex-best friends in the EU

The real winners at COP are the climate communication consultants and other paid message managers.
Yes it is true President Trump called the climate crisis a hoax and a con job but at least he wasn’t lying to us, you know like Miliband.
It always amazes me how ignorant the no fossil fuels people are. Without fossil fuels there is not steel, rubber, computers, cell phones, nylon, rayon, very little life-saving drugs, their much ballyhooed wind turbines and solar cells can’t be made without a massive input of fossil fuels. Most of America can’t have anything made of wood because the only way to cut it down and transport it is with fossil fuels, or do they want loggers to go back to hand saws and dragging the logs with horses. That’s not to mention if you stopped fossil fuels world food production would drop by 75% with the resulting deaths. Of course that is probably what they want. King Charles, then prince, said back in the 1980’s that mankind is a cancer on the face of the Earth. I did a research paper back in ’95 at Portland State University, and discovered that many “environmentalists” believe that the human population of the Earth should be reduced to 200 million people.
I would take a little course in industrial chemistry.
The reality is that the overwhelming use of fossil fuels is not as a chemical feedstock, it is as an energy producer.
The second most important use is as a reducing agent, You should have said ‘steel, concrete and fertiliser’ as these material use vast quantities of coal and natural gas.
And are fairly fundamental to our lifestyles.
But the organic chemistry and plastics? Not so much. We already make plastic out of corn starch etc. It can be made out of wood products as well.
It’s an inconvenience,. but not a show stopper.
Yes, solar requires lots of energy (using essentially all coal and lignite). Processing raw silica (sand) into ultra-pure polysilicon is one of the filthiest industrial processes ever invented, millions of tons of coal for heat and millions of gallons of acid to dissolve impurities and spent chemicals accumulating in leachate ponds. There’s a reason why in the U.S the small effort to produce the ultra-pure polysilicon required for solar panels was shutdown, never again to reappear.
Because of the way the minerals in solar panels are bound together there is no practical cost-effective way to recycle the projected 178 million tons of this toxic waste as the panels deteriorate in their short 25-year lifecycle. Solar panels have no scrap value so they will be abandoned to rot in the environment or at great expense transported to clay-lined landfills. In a sane world solar panels would be illegal instead of mandated and subsidized. Details available on request.
If anyone is claiming that COP 30 was a success when fossil fuel consumption and global emissions keep rising while international surveys continue to show citizens worldwide generally regard climate concern and action a low priority, I’d like to see what has to happen for future COP organizers to declare their conferences a failure. It would probably take an asteroid strike or something similar before they’d come to their senses.
One definition of insanity is repeating the same motion/activity/etc. and expecting a different outcome regardless of the number of previously attempts (and failures).
The nations that are hanging in are the ones that want trillions of dollars for climate reparation.
And meanwhile in the UK, on a cold and sunny November day with only light wind, Solar is generating 6% of our electricity with wind contributing another 23%. Gas 55% and wood (how that is classed as somehow better than gas is beyond me) 7%.
And French nuclear is supplying 6% too,..plus our own nuclear at 8%..wind is as I write only 18%. Now the sun has come out solar is an estimated 10%.
