Just Stop Oil Activists Disrupt Flights, Demand Fossil Fuel End by 2030

Climate activists from the group Just Stop Oil attempted to disrupt flights at Heathrow Airport in London and Cologne-Bonn Airport in Germany as part of a coordinated campaign to demand an end to the extraction and burning of fossil fuels by 2030. T

he actions led to the arrest of nine activists at Heathrow and caused temporary flight suspensions in Cologne-Bonn. Similar disruptions were reported in Spain and Switzerland. The protests have sparked mixed reactions, with many calling for severe legal consequences.

Given the recent sentencing of other Just Stop Oil Activists, the Heathrow arrestees may find the UK justice system will be less forgiving than their previous experiences.

And in Germany…

Here’s one of the “protesters” giving his boilerplate declarations.

What’s the cost to the airlines from these disruptions? The perps should have to pay that full cost in triplicate.

If they stop extracting oil and gas where will this critter get …
The synthetic Rubber that makes the soles of his shoes
Or the elastic in his waistband
Or the tyres on his bicycle
Or the asphalt paved roads for his smooth travels
Or the plastic components of his cell phone
Or the lightweight components his preferred Wind Turbine blades
Or the silicon that makes his preferred Solar Panels
Or the Structural Steel that supports both (I know that’s Coal not Oil)
Or the refined materials in his desired electronics
Or the lightweight components of his preferred EVs

It has been noted that one half of the people in the world are below average. We now go d that those folks are self-selecting into these sorts of activist groups.

Yes. When I read “…a coordinated campaign to demand an end to the extraction and burning of fossil fuels by 2030”, I wondered how it was possible to coordinate such levels of stupidity? Perhaps they just did it in two different location by random chance on a pleasant day in July.

I think most schools just broke up for summer. Unless we can blame it on no education during Covid lockdowns they probably ought to stay broken up until somebody comes up with a way to drill an ounce of common sense into today’s sub-average kids.

Or the 80% of the world’s population that is supported by coal, oil and gas, and 10% that are supported by nuclear, 14% by hydro, so that leaves just 6% that are using ‘renewables’.

Again, prosecuting the funders of Just Stop Oil, not just the Dixie Cup protesters, is needed to deter such actions.

Yep.. Follow the money to, usually their wealthy liberal parents, and make them, and their parents, pay full restitution.

Of course if their parents cut them loose to live on their own, that would be another story.

But the parents MAY be able to sue the public institutions (schools) who indoctrinated their children to be such louts.

In every case, lawyers make money.

In the US, the majority of lawyers donate to Democrat politicians.

US MUST go to loser pays, with the loser lawyer also being held responsible.

Firstly they would need to grow hemp…lots of hemp…then use it to make their clothing and bags to carry manure.
Then they would need to walk (likely barefoot) to the nearest pasture and gather up Horse and Cow droppings to keep their land fertile. (Or have a horse and cart like Amish)
Then they would need to plant gardens sufficient to provide ALL their sustenance for a year.
No meats just Vegan!
No leather just fiber!
Then they would need to Walk everywhere they went avoiding the paved road surfaces. Or ride on horseback
Then they would need to learn and gather medicinal plants (no prescriptions)
They would need to make their own soap and natural deodorants or acclimate to being stinky and dirty and shunned by polite society
No electricity… Wiring requires insulation and insulation is petrochemical derived
No pumped water… Water pumps are steel and require Coal for manufacture
No plumbing… Pipes also require oil (abs) or Coal (steel) or reliable energy (copper) in their manufacture (outhouse time, start digging)

I disagree. It should be part of their sentence while in prison so they can practice for when they are released. My bet is that they will fold by day 2.

I can’t help but wonder what would happen to these idiots if they had shut down airports for a different cause?
“Grass is too Green!”? “The Sky is too Blue!”? “The Ground is too Dirty!”? “We’re NOT really Squirrel Bait!”?
“Just Stop the Tides!”?

“I may not agree with what he says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it.”

That quote does not apply to domestic terrorists, such as JSO “protesters.”

That quote does not apply to the protests/riots in DC where they lit fires and vandalized public property and assaulted police and bystanders.

Given the evil actions of these groups it is quite clear the purpose is not for conveying the claimed message. Their actions turn the public away. Their actions are part of the war against human civilization.

July 24, 2024 2:41 pm

I don’t think it’s that easy to access major international runways in Canada or the USA. Going over the fences wouldn’t be easy and security at narrow access doors without getting shot if you try would deter most. You’d think Europe’s experiences with horrific terrorist attacks would have beefed up airport security tight as a drum – certainly a pimple-faced brigade of spoiled brats shouldn’t be a tactical challenge.

Give them what they want… for them only. No gasoline, no natural gas or fuel oil, no electricity generated from fossil fuels, no plastics made from oil. Don’t affect anyone else, just the protesters.

I would hope all airlines add these SJWs to their no fly lists. Better yet, allow them to fly, but on each of their flights have the captain make a special announcement. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special guest with us today. Seated in 20A, Timmy the SJW through his actions has in the past inconvenienced thousands of travelers with his activism temper tantrums, but now apparently he has changed his mind, and now wants the privilege of flying. Please commend this brave hero’s change of heart.”.

Co-ordinated lawbreaking disrupting airports? So why isn’t this being prosecuted as conspiring to commit domestic terrorism?

Yes, with Conspiracy you don’t actually have to carry out the action, just plan and make preparations to do it

Is that a route for getting at the funders? If you fund an organisation that you know engages in law-breaking activities, then are you not complicit in making preparations for that law-breaking?

You would think so. It’s strange that in Canada bank accounts can be frozen for people funding anti-govt protests, yet organizations that fund international transportation disruption (with conspiracy to do so) have zero financial or legal consequences.

Anyone caught breaking into airport grounds with the intent to disrupt aircraft movements should be treated severely. They should be considered as if mass murdering terrorists and sentences delivered accordingly. After all a mere 1″ wide strip of metal on the runway is all that brought down the Concorde, killing all aboard and several on the ground.

And/or just park a big jet in front of the miscreants who have glued themselves to the runway, and blast them with engine exhaust. Then they get to experience what global boiling and hurricane force winds feel like! On second thought, the clean up of the layers of skin and bloody biohazard from their hands left on the runway would be problematic…
