Essay by Eric Worrall
If only you evil carbon sinners had listened before it was too late. But we can still apparently fix the climate crisis, even though the crisis is inevitable.
‘Soon it will be unrecognisable’: total climate meltdown cannot be stopped, says expert
Blistering heatwaves are just the start. We must accept how bad things are before we can head off global catastrophe, according to a leading UK scientist

And this is just the beginning, insists McGuire, who is emeritus professor of geophysical and climate hazards at University College London. As he makes clear in his uncompromising depiction of the coming climatic catastrophe, we have – for far too long – ignored explicit warnings that rising carbon emissions are dangerously heating the Earth. Now we are going to pay the price for our complacence in the form of storms, floods, droughts and heatwaves that will easily surpass current extremes.
The crucial point, he argues, is that there is now no chance of us avoiding a perilous, all-pervasive climate breakdown. We have passed the point of no return and can expect a future in which lethal heatwaves and temperatures in excess of 50C (120F) are common in the tropics; where summers at temperate latitudes will invariably be baking hot, and where our oceans are destined to become warm and acidic. “A child born in 2020 will face a far more hostile world that its grandparents did,” McGuire insists.
In this respect, the volcanologist, who was also a member of the UK government’s Natural Hazard Working Group, takes an extreme position. Most other climate experts still maintain we have time left, although not very much, to bring about meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. A rapid drive to net zero and the halting of global warming is still within our grasp, they say.
Such claims are dismissed by McGuire. “I know a lot of people working in climate science who say one thing in public but a very different thing in private. In confidence, they are all much more scared about the future we face, but they won’t admit that in public. I call this climate appeasement and I believe it only makes things worse. The world needs to know how bad things are going to get before we can hope to start to tackle the crisis.”
…
As to the reason for the world’s tragically tardy response, McGuire blames a “conspiracy of ignorance, inertia, poor governance, and obfuscation and lies by climate change deniers that has ensured that we have sleepwalked to within less than half a degree of the dangerous 1.5C climate change guardrail. Soon, barring some sort of miracle, we will crash through it.”
…
“This is a call to arms,” he says. “So if you feel the need to glue yourself to a motorway or blockade an oil refinery, do it. Drive an electric car or, even better, use public transport, walk or cycle. Switch to a green energy tariff; eat less meat. Stop flying; lobby your elected representatives at both local and national level; and use your vote wisely to put in power a government that walks the talk on the climate emergency.”

I have to admire Bill McGuire’s climate propaganda innovation – he’s solved the problem of upping the ante beyond certain doom.
This was a real challenge for greens, how do you make climate change seem even scarier than “near certain doom, but we have a sliver of hope”? Bills solution is, we’re certainly doomed, but we need to work to avoid that doom, even though doom is inevitable.

The brainwashed appear to be easily controlled by shame. Theater of the absurd pseudoscience like McGuire’s could use an equal measure of public shaming to get the deluded out of their closed loop of perception.
Climate changes. Been doing it for eons. Plastic is the real manmade menace. Manufactures need to address this problem not the DS crap on climate. Remove CO2 from the atmosphere and plants will be harmed. Less plants means less oxygen and food for us. Don’t be blind to DS crimes against humanity. Learn the truth, don’t be indoctrinated on lies!
I’m not sure if Dad’s Army has global fame, but for everyone in the UK.

If “we have past the point of no return” then there is no reason to make any changes because no change can avoid the outcome.
So, hurray, no more need for net zero, renewable mandates & subsidies, or reductions in nitrogen fertilizer use.
Thank you, climate hysterics for setting us free.
“A child born in 2020 will face a far more hostile world that its grandparents did,” McGuire insists.
Global child mortality fell from 19% in 1960 to just below 4% in 2017.
.. blithering idiot.
Another dementia patient?
I was fiddling with one of my dataloggers today (Cambridgeshire version) because its getting near the end of the month and tomorrow, if I remember, will be emptying them to see what goodness lurks within.
Just today was a sneak peek to see how The Heatwave affected north Cambridgeshire.
I was a bit disappointed that my ad-hoc Stevenson Screen had been letting the sun shine on my logger.
I’d tried my best, it was inside a white glossy metal plant pot, hung upside down in the lower branches of a large dense conifer tree.
Aw well, I do now have it ‘on record’ that north Cambs reached 49.8°C on the 13th July. Bang on 16:00 hrs too, the hottest part of a BST day.
But being under the tree, I recalled the Talus Garland Effect (see little pic attached) and had a truly mind-blowing realisation – about damp, dew, condensation, Stevenson Screens and the thermometers that may be within
And you know what..
It Blows All Of Climate Change Science clean out of the water.
In all probability there has been NO temperature rise what-so-frigging-ever since, easily, 1850 if not before’
none.
Made even worse by Climate Science having relentlessly adjusted the old data, taken from Max/Min Mercury thermometers, having adjusted those olden readings downwards.
Let me chew it over a bit more and sleep on it
When I can get a clear picture and there isn’t a blinding flaw in it – it is The End
(And I kept telling you all- ‘Deserts Are Cold Places‘
High temps maybe but otherwise, very very cold
Here comes the proof.)
Watch this space….
see reply below, I forgot the pic
Talus Garland Effect
McGuire is a volcanologist.
I have a friend who is a volcanologist [retiring to spend more time with his craft brewing] in the US.
He, my friend, is smart and well-read scientifically, so I suppose [on no evidence] that McGuire is, too.
But McGuire apparently thinks that if the ‘Global Average Temperature’ [Yeah, whatever] rises by a fraction of a degree centigrade – we’re doomed.
“there is now no chance of us avoiding a perilous, all-pervasive climate breakdown” from the lead post.
He didn’t do History.
I doubt if he did very much more maths than me – and whether he took it in.
“where our oceans are destined to become warm and acidic” He has no concept of how big the oceans are. None whatever. I had 45 years in shipping – so I have a fair idea.
Panic merchant seeking to secure a pension I suspect.
Trouble is – as a UK taxpayer, I contribute to his pension. [Non-smiley Face!!]
Should we defund all the universities?
Maybe an option, if this cove is an example. Sadly.

” the volcanologist …”
well, he is spewing … …
😉
Back in 2016 Bill was warning that “Global warming won’t just change the weather—it could trigger massive earthquakes and volcanoes”.
What about Polar bears, ocean pH and rising oceans? That was soooo last century. And when it didn’t happen, we move on to predicting other disasters.
What hope does the western world have when these professors are teaching the next generation? The sky is falling! Henny Penny, more commonly known in the United States as Chicken Little and sometimes as Chicken Licken, is a European folk tale about a chicken who believes that the world is coming to an end. But there is some sound advice for catastrophists – don’t fly, walk, take a cold shower, switch off your electricity and gas – and stop sending me these useless messages.
I would love to follow him around for a week and point out his daily carbon sins.
1.5°, 2.0°, global catastrophe, 97%, 10 years to save the planet, √-1, Arctic ice free by 2014
The only one of the above that makes sense is √-1.
Thanks, J. That’s true.
i makes no sense at all, according to every rule of maths ever taught. It just IS, and its real meaning is to show us we’re fundamentally wrong about something in the universe, because the little impossible so-and-so is useful in real-world calculations.
I’ll fix McGuire’s statement for him: “we have – for far too long – ignored explicit warnings that [leftist-communist phony scientists are lying when they pretend that] rising carbon emissions are dangerously heating the Earth.”
““I know a lot of people working in climate science who say one thing in public but a very different thing in private. In confidence, they are all much more scared about the future we face, but they won’t admit that in public. I call this climate appeasement and I believe it only makes things worse. “
Just think of all the honest, hardworking people’s money that could be saved by firing all those dishonest “climate appeasers” around the world, “working in climate science”.
Not to mention the additional groomers that could be gainfully employed sexualizing masked kindergarteners, and teaching them to blame people with low melanin levels for not letting the high melanin level people make the world a paradise.
“…we have sleepwalked to within less than half a degree of the dangerous 1.5C climate change guardrail”
What happened to the 2C guardrail? I guess I was too busy sleepwalking to notice the change to 1.5C. So what happens when we pass 1.5C and life on Earth goes on as normal? Will they admit they were wrong? Or will they quietly go back to 2C as the real guardrail and claim it was always 2C?
The temperature guardians must be in the middle of a real conundrum right now. Do they slow down the warming of the planet? Or do they continue the warming and risk exposing themselves as charlatans when the temperature surpasses 1.5C and the world doesn’t end?
If I thought agreeing with extreme views of “it’s too late now” would shut the rear of the climate hysterics up, I would.
I like to compare claims against actual data. To see how bad it is getting let’s compare the climate 20 years ago to this year. We’re 6 months in and the monthly average has been 0.11 C above the 30 year mean. So, what was it like in 2002? It was 0.12 C above the same baseline. If this keeps up were goners for sure. By 2042 we might be a massive 0.10 above the baseline.

You would think that climate alarmists have learned not to make predictions. At least McGuire seems to have learned enough not to mention a date or timeline beyond “soon.” Of course, he then loses all credibility when he suggests “use your vote wisely to put in power a government that walks the talk on the climate emergency.” HaHaHaHaHa. Which government is that Bill? None of the green ones that have been elected around the world have chosen to “walk the talk” yet. So far it’s all “do as I say, not as I do.” If they were required to walk the talk, they’d soon shut up.
At least we now know who Griff’s mentor is.
At one time middle school geography included mention of climate classification. What percentage of the world‘s land area has actually had changed climate classification? It’s likely 99% of the world hasn’t experienced a changed climate at all in the last 50 years.
The only “meltdown” that cannot be stopped is that of Climatistas.
They get away with this kind of alarmism because the public has such a short memory. Steve Martin was right!
