Reposted from NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT
By Paul Homewood

The UN’s climate agenda has finally hit the buffers in Glasgow.
It almost happened in Copenhagen 12 years ago, when developing nations refused to limit their economic growth to satisfy the West. It was only the promise of hundreds of billions of dollars that persuaded them to come along for the ride.
The can was kicked down the road again in 2015 at Paris, when developing countries were given carte blanche to carry on increasing emissions.
But sooner or later, the time would come for action, not talk. And when it came to the crunch, the developing nations rebelled, led by India, China, South Africa and Iran. The touchpaper was this clause in the Draft Agreement, which was presented to the conference yesterday:

India along with a host of like minded countries knew that they could not run their economies without coal and other fossil fuels, never mind grow them and relieve poverty. Faced with the whole Agreement being lost, Alok Sharma and the UN organisers backed down, and replaced the words “phase-out” with “phase-down”. Just one word changed, but its effect was devastating for the Agreement.
Given that there is no obligation to do any of this (hence the term “Calls”), and no timescales are mentioned, India and the rest can interpret this clause any way they want. (Unabated coal, by the way, means where the carbon is not captured). In short, they will be able to carry on burning all the coal they want, for as long as they want.
The rest of the Agreement is pretty weak and ineffectual as well. It is full of terms such as “urges”, “requests” and “invites”, which mean there is no obligation on anybody to do anything.
And all COP26 has really agreed on is to meet up again next year and discuss things again.
In terms of Mitigation, ie reducing emissions, countries who have not yet submitted new plans are requested to do so next year. But if they have not done so yet, it is hardly likely they will come up with anything meaningful next year.
The Agreement inevitably “reaffirms” the 1.5C target. It would have been politically impossible to do otherwise. However, 1.5C was never an option, and was effectively kicked into touch at Paris, when it was acknowledged that emissions would carry on rising till 2030. According to the science, emissions would need to be cut in half in this decade to hit 1.5C, something which is clearly not remotely possible now.
Parties are also requested to come back next year with strengthened targets. But again, are countries that have just submitted new targets this year going to propose anything significantly different next year?

Then, of course, there is the money. There is a lot of “urging” and “requesting” developed countries to cough up:

But already the bar is being raised, with the third world demanding ever more. One significant item introduced at COP26 is the demand by developing nations that finance for adaption to climate change should be ramped up at the expense of mitigation.
In other words, they don’t want money for solar panels. They’d rather have it for building resilience against climate change (by which they mean weather!).
One further blow to those demanding western money has been the neutering of their Loss and Damage agenda. This is the ludicrous claim that all weather disasters are due to global warming, and that rich countries should therefore pay poor ones every time there is a bit of bad weather.
That was too much for even Joe Biden to accept, as it would leave the West on the hook for ever. The Glasgow Pact has effectively kicked this into touch, just promising more talks at some time in the future.
Naturally supporters of the UN agenda, such as the BBC, have tried to make the best of a bad job, claiming that “progress has been made”. The absurd Matt McGrath calls it “ambitious” and “progressive”.
Some have even claimed that the 1.5C target is still alive. Chris Stark, Chief Executive of the Committee on Climate Change, for instance stated:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-59253838/page/6
This shows just how out of touch he is with reality. Living in his little bubble, he seems to think the rest of the world shares his obsession with climate change.
But as the Climate Action tracker reaffirms, emissions will carry on growing, despite the new plans submitted to COP26:

https://climateactiontracker.org/global/cat-emissions-gaps/
The end of the road.
In my view, we have seen the beginning of the end for the UN’s climate agenda.
There will no doubt be many more COPs to come. And there will be annual warnings from Prince Charles that we have 12 more months to save the planet.
But the writing is now on the wall. Developing countries around the world are standing up and refusing to cut back on fossil fuels, because they know they have no alternative if they want to grown their economies and give their people a better life.
They have got off the Climate Train.
So should we.
Listening to UN Climate Finance advisor, ex Bank of England chief, Marc Carney :
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2021-11-01/net-zero-a-ruthless-relentless-focus-for-gfanz-carney-video
He does not mince words with urging, calling, inviting – rather ruthless, relentless focus.
Seems it really it does not matter a whit what COP26 signed, global finance is going ahead anyway.
That GFANZ green finance alliance is already choking off all credit for projects that do not pass the gangrene test. Will BlackRock play along is the question. No Asian banks are so far affected.
I read that as pension funds etc are pulling their money out of fossil fueled companies the hedge funds are stepping in and making a killing.
Well I certainly am.
No, what is happening is a big noise about ‘ethical investment’ to sell crap investments to gullible idiots whilst the smart money is moiving into fossil energy and nuclear.
As I said before, whatever the public is being sold, buy the opposite.
All that will happen is private equity firms will fill the void because there is good money to be made.
https://citywireselector.com/news/private-equity-picks-up-fossil-fuel-assets-as-others-divest/a1512779
There is billions flooding into the space because the returns are massive.
Carney was Canada’s Bank Governor leaving for England. Carney knows full well Canada’s fossil fuel industry has subsidized programs across the country for decades. No other industry is remotely close to the economic impact fossil fuels have made to Canada’s standard of living.
China supplies the world with heavy industrial items reliant on Coal. The west is now beholden to China and India and Europe now is in the hands of Russian gas. “Oct 28, 2021China is expanding mines to produce 220 million metric tons a year of extra , a nearly 6 percent rise from last year. China already digs up and burns more than the rest of the world combined – “The Guaranteed power of wind + Sun = 0.The guaranteed output of wind energy and photovoltaics is between zero, two or three percent. So de-facto is zero.” – Harald Schwarz, professor of power distribution at the University of Cottbus,
Coal is going to around for a very long time. Without China using coal to manufacture magnesium etc the west would come to a halt.
Coal has a few decades to run. China is draining world reserves, and is putting in nukes as fast as they can. Same for India. I don’t consider that a ‘very long time’.
There is a massive market for mass produced ‘plug and play’ reactors worldwide.
Coal has closer to 1000 years to run.
I don’t think the citizens of Glasgow were at all impressed with the climate hypocrites.
I don’t think the citizens of Glasgow even noticed. Mostly they are either drunk or smashed on smack and crack.
Thus therefore and henceforth:
How do we give these folks a way out of the ‘mess’ they’ve created for themselves. How do we bring them back down to Earth nicely. without showing them to be as foolish and misguided as they (presently) are
We’re dealing ‘pride’ ‘dignity’ and self-esteem – they *have* to be given something to occupy the void there’ll be in all their personal as well as professional lives.
Otherwise, they won’t let go – it will trail on nearly interminably
You know me – you know what that is:
Fix The World’s Soil. Repair/reclaim the deserts
It will win win win win win win win for everybody
……….and not even a very expensive thing to actually do.
Ma Nature and the much loved Natural Variation will do 97% of the work.
No kidding this time.
and and and and, their own organisation, the UN, has already (2015) acknowledged the problem i.e. We are going to run out of dirt by 2075
Peta: “We’re dealing ‘pride’ ‘dignity’ and self-esteem – they *have* to be given something to occupy the void there’ll be in all their personal as well as professional lives.”

Is it too much just to ask them all to mind their own knitting going forward?
If it comes to them finding something useful to do or starve well, let’s just let Darwin sort them all out.
I’m having difficulty generating a lot of sympathy for people who have been trying to kill me indirectly by cutting my access to energy and ordering me about, all while sitting in the middle of the street wailing at the sky.
Peta Thunberg, Now you’re on to “peak dirt” theory? Guess what? The world’s deserts are already shrinking. Its got nothing to do with the soil, it’s from CO2 enhanced greening. Yet somehow you believe that dirt, productive for hundreds of millions of years with almost all nutrients getting recycled, is all of a sudden going to go away? There’s only an issue with the relatively small amount of farmed land being plowed, But you know what? There are already soil conservation efforts to address the land devoted to agriculture. You know that don’t you?
Your fixation on soil is disturbing. No sane politico is going to latch onto your crazy theory. Just give it up, you’re embarrassing yourself.
Paul Homewood,
You observe,
Yes, any possibility of binding agreements on ‘climate change’ was destroyed in 2009 in Copenhagen when it was decided there would not be a successor Treaty to the Kyoto Protocol.
Since then the ‘climate scare’ has been moving like a headless chicken running around a farmyard: it gives the appearance that it is alive. and it moves as though it were alive, but it is dead and it has yet to fall over.
There is limit to the number of ‘last chances to save the world’ before most people ignore them. When they do the ‘climate scare’ will ‘fall over’.
The problem now is that the moving corpse of the ‘climate scare’ could run over something important.
I am reminded of the ‘acid rain’ scare that raged in the 1970s and 80s. Few remember it now because reality imposed on intended actions to ‘correct’ it so it faded away. But the EU had responded to the ‘acid rain’ scare by imposing the Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD) which imposed restrictions on emission of sulphur and nitrogen oxides (SOx and NOx) from power stations. The bureaucrats who administer the LCPD needed to justify their jobs so they persisted in tightening the emission constraints long after the ‘acid rain’ scare was forgotten. The constraints forced closure of the UK’s coal burning power stations.
The IPCC continues to operate because the dead ‘climate scare’ has yet to fade away and continues to ‘move’ as though it is still alive. The powers in the IPCC know the ‘climate scare’ is already dead and they can be expected to put in place things which benefit them into the future. For the benefit of everybody it is imperative that bureaucracies created by the scare are destroyed before they are made permanent.

It is as though the reality of getting pigs to fly is just dawning. It’s easy to get one leg off the ground. Two isn’t that hard. Three is tricky. But getting that fourth leg off the ground is where the problems really begin.
Yeah sure the whole world is going to commit economic suicide simultaneously. The only thing that will be done simultaneously is saying you first.
China played the west like fools into a lockdown and bankrupting businesses whilst they increased coal power stations making the goods the west needs.

The whole COP crashed because (and this is going to sound very unbelievable but I think it’s true) the organisers thought it was about catastrophic anthropogenic climate change.
This is ridiculous. If it were about catastrophic anthropogenic climate change we would be engaging in war not negotiations. If AGW were the end of the world in x years then we would need to take all action to stop it.
As a thought experiment, consider Russia. Catastrophic anthropogenic climate change doesn’t harm all equally. Russia gets Siberian tundra turned into wheat and paddy fields, all year round blue sea ports, an pen NW passage and less severe winters in Moscow and St Petersburg. To get this they need to keep growing their main export industry. Try to imagine what compensation we need to give to Putin to get him to surrender that? Yet if he doesn’t surrender that – and we believe in catastrophic anthropogenic climate change – it’s all over. So we would be at war.
Thankfully we are not at war. Because most attendees knew full well COPs are not about the climate. They are about jockeying for position and gaining or losing face.
The rich West wants to delay competition from the developing world and is using it’s colonial proxies (the island states of the Commonwealth) as moral leverage. The Developing countries want to eat and grow rich. And COPs are about balancing these competing desires. It’s the chats about how the West accommodates the rise of the East that matter.
It has nothing to do with the climate.
But the Conservative Government organisers listened to the BBC hype (they are all media men themselves) and missed what it was actually all about.
In the end USA and China did their business outside of Glasgow and announced it during the UK PM’s press conference just to show that the UK got it all wrong.
Correct there are winners and losers in any change and the trick is to have resilience at which unreliables are the worst at.
In Europe, conservative means not communist.
M Courtney,
You observe that reactions of politicians to the ‘climate crisis’ do not suggest they believe the ‘climate crisis’ is a real and imminent threat.
I agree with your observation, and I point out that the responses of politicians to the Covid-19 pandemic demonstrate how they react to something they do believe to be a real and immediate threat. No significant politicians have reacted in anything like those responses as a reaction to the asserted ‘climate crisis’.
Politicians are opportunists. They do not need to believe in a scare for them to make use of it. And the purported ‘climate crisis’ can be used as an excuse for almost any political actions or inactions.
A coincidence of interests is more powerful than any conspiracy.
People climb onto – and stay on – a bandwagon when it is travelling in a direction they can use to benefit themselves. Indeed, that is why bandwagons ‘roll’.
Ricard (aka Dad)
It’s obvious that they aren’t taking the “Climate Crisis” seriously. Comparisons with Covid are obvious. So also with the Global Financial Crisis for another example. The contrast is clear.
I an trying to answer two following questions:
Q1) So why bother with regular meetings to discuss economic growth, use of natural resourced and the trends in industrialisation at all?
A1) My answer being that the growth of Asia is so big everyone needs to talk about it before the rivalry stumbles into conflict. If so then we would expect the very poor nations to be treated as irrelevant. This seems to be the case.
Q2) Why did the current UK government take it seriously when no-one else was?
A2) My answer being that they only follow the media hype (post-modern medium is the message) and have no understanding of what is actually going on. If so then we would expect the Government to be completely incompetent at absolutely everything, making blunder after blunder and spinning around floundering in U-Turns regularly. This seems to be the case.
And 👍👍 for your last two sentences, M Courtney.
M Courtney,
You say,
I doubt there is one overarching reason for continuance of the global warming scare, and I point out that economic summits were happening before the ‘climate’ bandwagon began to roll.
Politics of all kinds (from local politics to global geopolitics) are certainly involved in the scare, but the nature of a bandwagon is that people join it for a variety of reasons. Indeed, the power of any bandwagon is that joining it has usefulness to people with several different objectives.

“COP26 Ends In Humiliating Failure”
One of the hallmarks of left wing thinking is the approach to changing language via a bit of wordplay, eg people with cycles, pregnant people etc which is ‘inclusive’ and avoids mentioning ‘exclusive’ words like woman, women etc.
So in the spirit of fun with words
Cop-out, Copout –
“A failure to face some difficulty squarely “
Ergo Copout 26
Nevermind, there’s always Sharm El Sheikh
In my view, we have seen the beginning of the end for the UN’s climate agenda.

Meanwhile the Biden “administration” and state governments studies the impact of shutting down pipelines, bans natural gas, closes coal fired power plants, constructs ever more forests of windmills and shoves climate change propaganda down the throats of the nation’s school children.
In my view, the Bolsheviks are in the final stages of their goal of world domination.
The latest thing the Democrats are trying to slip into the next spending bill, is a subsidy of up to $25,000 to “legitimate” news organizations, for every “legitimate” reporter that they hire.
Of course “legitimate” will always be defined by the government.
Trudeau has already done this in Canada.
He’s now got an established press corps that is the best that money can buy.
However the readers’ comments in most msm articles demonstrate the disagreement with the government line as presented by approved journalists.
Next move by the government will no doubt be to outlaw readers’ comments on ‘approved’ articles.
After that fails, the government will outlaw readers.
(Think that sounds stupid? We’re talking about government here. Watch this space.)
More likely the ‘Battle of the Bulge’.
Anyone thinking that has something to do with a diet program needs to consult DuckDuckGo,,,,,
These are people claiming to represent “democratic” Nations from around the planet. However there is absolutely nothing democratic about what they are proposing for their home populations. None of these “important” people are planning to actually ask those they claim to represent what they think abut these ridiculous, totally unfounded(and currently unfunded)solutions for this wholly imaginary “problem”.
Well…it’s looking like getting to a 1.5° C i crease is going to take a century at the current rate. And it is nearly certain that 50-100% of the rising temperatures were naturally occurring (from declining “liquid” cloud cover). The trend started way back around 1600-1700 and Tidal Guages indicate that at least the last 150 years had very steady increases (BACK towards normal temperatures) from the Deep Freeze of the Little Ice Age.
The Climate Crisis was made up and promoted by powerful Billionaire Families and their International Foundations as an excuse to DEMAND International Emergency Measures to “FIX” the fake problem. This naturally would evolve into putting THEM in charge of a Global Socialist Utopia…with Top-Down (from the Elites) solutions to all the world’s problems.
All that’s required of the proletariat is to give up their individual freedoms and “do their part”, quit being selfish to help save humanity….Oh, and fork over $120 Trillion by 2050 to help things along.
Europeans seem to be sucking it up by suffering economy killing and household-budget killing energy costs.
The Americans are not going to be so easy to convince. After being lied to constantly during the man made Pandemic, Trust in Authority is pretty much gone.
Now, we just need some fair elections in 2022.
I fear that election fraud will get worse….because the Democrats are at a historic ROCK BOTTOM in the polls. And what’s their response to that??? Double Down and FORCE everyone to get Vaxed or lose their jobs! They would never pull such a wildly Illegal and wildly unpopular stunt if they were worried about elections robbing them of their ill gotten power. Some kind of election “fix” has to be already in their Globalist plans…either that or the Democrats are the stupidest Party in History politically and may lose to Super-Majorities in Congress…after which retribution Impeachments would give Republicans back the White House for the Hat Trick.
300% increases on Energy Costs will help that scenario along mightily.
“Its the economy, stupid.”
So that Swedish kid (Gerda something?) was right about this Glasgow thing being a failure?
While the decision document was a fiasco, the numerous COP24 announcements are a big green success. IEA says that together they reduce warming to just 1.8 degrees, which meets the Paris target of between 2 and 1.5 degrees. The gap is gone!
The alarmists ignore this success because there is still big money to be made.

Good. Someone told those bozos to their faces to ‘piss off’. I would very much like to see more of that, especially here at home, but until our farting pResident starts providing his own supply of natgas (and he has plenty of it, as we now know) to the general supply, we’ll have to make do with ‘Oh, well, maybe next time.” We can dream, can’t we?
I keep hoping that some day, the media mavens who promote the CAGW nonsense will find out that they’ve been sucker-punched for years, but they’ll have to find it out the hard way or it won’t work. That means that they show up on the doorstep looking for food because the store shelves are empty (again) and they didn’t stock ahead like the rest of us do.
The planet is fine. The (CAGWer) people are f—ed. – The Late Great George Carlin
“And all COP26 has really agreed on is to meet up again next year and discuss things again.”
Which was the whole point of the Conference. Just keep the gravy train a’chugging. World governments keep shoveling billions of dollars into ‘climate studies’ which generate panic to justify another COP and so on and so on.
The press corps dutifully cranks out scare stories, which NGOs exaggerate to generate contributions, which results in more scare stories. One year from now they’ll start the whole kabuki dance again.
Along with all of their third-person singular verbs (reaffirms, welcomes, recognizes, etc.), I suggest a couple more: waffles, and prevaricates.
But this was the last chance!!??
Oh well – might as well cancel the party next year.
Off to a much better holiday destination next year, Egypt. Will people finally recognise the Green Climate Fund as a Pyramid scheme?
“And all COP26 has really agreed on is to meet up again next year and discuss things again”
Well, of course, got to get their paid and paid-for vacation lined up, right?

You would think by now the AGW/UN/COP cabal would figure out the world isn’t convinced of their scam or all nations would be more compliant to their demands. The whole UN operational mode has failed. Bullying, threats, ostracizing, and shaming haven’t succeeded. Nations have figured out even if AGW were true they want to be the last one to commit economic suicide, lose a century of development, and take advantage of the void left while others comply.
Perhaps ‘climate reparations’ for the Maldives should be proportional to the land above water.
That’d be a nice little earner coming back to the west.
They just need to finance more tourist hotels and finish the new airport.
Hard to blame them if idiots are willing to give them billions.
I suppose the hotels are vertical sea rise safety retreats and the new airport is for evacuation.
Yes, that’s it.
It’s all about the sales pitch
I believe 2016, the hottest year in the 21st century, was said to be 1.0C warmer than the average from the beginning of the industrial era.
We have a test of the “CO2/increased temperature” hypothesis here.
The alarmists claim if we don’t reduce CO2 output by 45 percent by the year 2030, then the world will hit or exceed the 1.5C target.
It appears that there will be no 45 percent CO2 reduction, so we will just wait until the year 2030 and see if the temperatures have exceeded 2016’s temperatues by 0.5C.
Gotta love the precision of climate “science”:
