Thousands in Colorado without heat after vandals attack gas system

From The NYPost

Thousands of residents in Aspen, Colorado were left without heat during near-zero degree weather after vandals — possibly green activists from an environmental group — attacked the city’s gas system, authorities said Monday.

The vandals apparently attacked three separate Black Hills Energy gas lines, one in Aspen and two in Pitkin County, leaving around 3,500 residents shivering in their homes Saturday night, The Aspen Times reported.

The Aspen Police Department said the words “Earth first!”

False flag or not, someone seems to be taking credit

The Aspen Police Department said the words “Earth first!” were written on one pipe near Aspen. It’s unclear if the environmental group “Earth First!” was behind the vandalism.

Well in this age of no consequences for violent protesting I wonder what the chance of some escalating ecoterrorism might be?

Kinda crappy welding and those bolts have never been in the outdoors.
Looks like an inside job (on many levels).

What if someone froze to death because of this? One thing that should happen is that if the perpetrator is found and convicted, because they decreed others can not have gas-forced their undebated ideas on them, they MUST be denied gas heating and gas cooking along with gas power backup permanently or at least say 20 years. They will have to live the rest of their pathetic lives without gas. It will serve as an example to others-impose your will and the rest of your life will be swill.

Space heaters, huh? Well, since my furnace had to be replaced in the midst of freaking cold weather in October, and my little space heater kept the kitchen and the cat warm, I can confirm that while space heaters are nice, they are not sufficient in really bad weather. Good insulation helps, and I have it, but having a fireplace is better.

And those ecohippies that did this? I hope they get this stuff right back in their laps. What a bunch of jerks.

Did the attack cause the leaking of gas into the atmosphere? or just shutting off flow?
The GWP of unburnt Methane is higher than the CO2 from Methane combustion. So to reduce global warming its better to burn methane than to let it into the atmosphere.
