Tue 16 Jun 2020 00.16 AESTThe coronavirus pandemic is “just a fire drill” for what is likely to follow from the climate crisis, and the protests over racial injustice around the world show the need to tie together social equality, environmental sustainability and health, the UN’s sustainable business chief has said.
“The overall problem is that we are not sustainable in the ways we are living and producing on the planet today,” said Lise Kingo, the executive director of the UN Global Compact, under which businesses sign up to principles of environmental protection and social justice. “The only way forward is to create a world that leaves no one behind.”
She said there were “very, very clear connections” between the Covid-19 and climate crises, and the Black Lives Matter protests around the world, which she said had helped to reveal deep-seated inequalities and “endemic and structural racism”.
“We have seen illustrated to everyone that social inequality issues are part of the sustainable development agenda,” Kingo said.

The UN secretary general, António Guterres, said building a fairer society would be essential to the world’s health, as well as to saving the planet from climate breakdown and ecological destruction.
“Today, the fabric of society and the wellbeing of people hinge on our ability to build a fair globalisation,” he told the two-day UN Global Compact virtual conference of business leaders, which started on Monday.
“Where once ‘do no harm’ was a common approach for the business community, today we are arriving at a new landscape of elevated expectations and responsibilities. But despite progress, serious threats would undermine our future, including climate change, poverty, loss of biodiversity and widening social inequalities. The pandemic has underscored the world’s fragilities, which extend far beyond the realm of global health.”

In my opinion this is flailing, a desperate attempt by the UN to tie climate change to an issue people care about.
But the UN climate activists and their allies still seem to have a lot of money to fling about, so they are far from finished. Billions of dollars are in the balance, tied up in existing renewable energy investments which could become worthless overnight, if the world’s cash strapped governments decide to switch off their renewable energy life support programmes, as Spain did in 2011.
They all kneel in solidarity with one common cause: diversity (i.e. color or low information judgments).
They all kneel to socialism.
kneel to Big Brother the money printers. This is not about left or right it’s about good and evil. Central Banking and Direct Taxation have enslaved humanity. There can be no Freedom without a Free Market.
Their system is about to implode and they know it but that makes them even more dangerous. They will commit every atrocity to stay in power. Only power matters.
There can be no Free Market without sound money. But it seems at the moment that the entire world is enthralled by fiat, and starting to see the consequences.
The system is collapsing as we watch on, but it’s not a natural collapse. It’s being collapsed deliberately. The globalists are trying to institute a global technocratic authoritarian regime.

Activists don’t know that if they realized their dream, the diversity/social justice types would be the first to be sacrificed in a new elitist Central Committee purge. I note the UN has never suggested we spend less on tilting at windmills (pun intended) to fulfill their fantasy that they can control the climate and more on providing clean water and sewers to the poor of the world and helping them prevent crop failures and famines. Nor do they mention education or increasing health clinics etc. in India, Africa, So. America…
Not to mention the W.H.O totally blowing the handling of Covid, which is not their first disaster, and continuing to do so does not inspire confidence that their stated goals are their actual goals, to say the least. Even if they were, the W.H.O. and the UN have proven themselves too incompetent to manage parking at a major league ball game let alone control the climate or even a pandemic.
The more the globalists, corporations and the wealthy elites of the world, in and out of politics, talk about social justice (whatever that is) and spout the rest of the PC canned platitudes, the more injustice, racism and inequality rises. Misunderstood by the Guardian. FDA has a full green light to use HCQ. Incompetent and IDological Drs. in UK and Brazil egregiously over medicated already critical patients -1800mg a day instead of 200 to 400. The Lysenkoists at Lancet and the NEngland Journal of Medicine were forced to retract their articles against HCQ two days later because the data was shown to be phoney (fake may be more apt – like the everyday stuff we are loaded down with these days)!
Simon, you are experienced enough here to know that you need a much higher standard of keeping up to date. I think so, too. Note that President Trump is having his first public rally since March in Oklahoma this Saturday and has already signed up over one million people who want to attend. The auditorium where the rally will be held holds about 20,000 people, and there is talk that they will also have another building available that will hold 40,000 more..
One million people is about one-fourth of the population of Oklahoma. Although I’m sure the applications to attend are coming from all over the nation.
So it looks like there is a lot of support for President Trump. Trump also collected $14 million in campaign contributions on his birthday a couple of days ago. In one day.

I heard on the local news earlier that people are already forming up a line waiting to get into Trump’s rally Saturday. Five days in advance, they are lining up. And it’s hot out there, too. And it’s going to be hotter as the week goes by.

The Trump people should have all the names and personal information for all those who attend, so they can follow up with them in a couple of weeks and see how they are doing. This would tell us a lot about the consequences, or lack thereof, of meeting in crowds. The crowds of demonstrators are a similar experimet, but we don’t have their names to follow up with them, but they will have the names from the Trump rally, so they should combine politics and medicine and study the Trump rally crowds for the effects of the Wuhan virus.

Trump’s visit actually highlights the destruction of Black Wallstreet. I bet you wouldn’t even know about it had it not been for this visit, Simon.
Trump is not running away from past racial injustice. Instead, he goes right to the heart of the matter and sympathizes with the Black Community. Trying to make Trump out to be a racist is standard operating procedure for the radical Left, but fewer and fewer Blacks are buying these lies as they see that Trump is actually taking actions that directly make Black Lives Better.
Criticising Trump, the man that’s putting money in Black pockets and releasing Black people held unjustly from jail, falls on deaf ears in many parts of the Black Community. Can’t wait for November!

Actually that is probably a reasonable assumption except as luck would have it I have just finished (last week) listening to a great podcast about the massacre on “Stuff You Should Know.” The overriding point is the lengths that were taken to cover the whole thing up. I am familiar with the Burning of Black Wall Street. The details of what happened are controversial. It is not even known for sure just how many people were killed or how the riot got started. They have been searching for months lately trying to find hidden graves in various locations around Tulsa, but have found nothing so far, so obviously the full story is not known. That’s not to excuse the ultimate destruction and death that resulted, but as with all things, there is more than one side to the story.

Well, I think Trump is doing quite well with the Black Community. He invited the families of many Black victims of police shootings to the White House yesterday, and Senator Tim Scott described the situation with the Black families as them coming into the meeting with low expectations and leaving the meeting with Trump with high expectations. Some of the familiy members were even singing Trump’s praises for his caring attitude.
I do think you are being unfair to Trump supporters, although I should not have equated it with racism. They are not all old, fat and angry. That’s just a leftwing stereotype.
Btw, I listened to a pollster I respect this morning, and she said that in one of her polls two-thirds of those polled, both Democrat and Republican were against defunding the police, while one-third were in favor of defunding the police.
So I think that kind of describes the political demographic in the United States: Two-thirds of American citizens have common sense, and one-third of Amercian citizens are senseless radicals. The problem is the radical Leftwing Media makes it appear that the radicals are in the majority and are speaking for America. No, they are not There is a Silent Majority out there that hasn’t spoken up yet. I think we will hear from them in November.

That is the question I always find myself asking when I see some outrageous statement made by some alarmist. I always ask myself: Are they Liars, deliberately spreading falsehoods, or are they Dupes, unwittingly spreading falsehoods? I can reach a conclusion on some people, but not on most because it’s hard to know unless you know that person very well. So I just have to guess.
Unfortunately, whether wittingly or unwittingly, falsehoods about the Earth’s climate are being spread.
It is not important if they believe it. These are paid actors without power. It is all fake la la land. They are ordered what to say.
If you check Lise Kingo’s Wiki entry, although it does not state how she lives, I’m pretty sure her idea of not leaving anyone behind does not include everyone living as she does.
She is also unlikely to drop her standard of living down to the less fortunate that she does not wish to leave behind.
All of these UN do-gooders have far more impact on the environment than us mere mortals as ivory towers are expensive and expansive

I don’t think that is true. We are currently sustaining ourselves, and the population numbers are declining, so I don’t see any reason why the human race can’t continue doing what it is doing.
The only real problem for humanity is the lack of electrical power in the developing world, which could be solved by good policy decisions, which do not include unreliable energy generation methods like windmills and industrial solar.
That’s the problem: The UN elites keep trying to hold the developing world back by insisting they use unreliable power generation or nothing at all.

Ridiculous! There is no connection between the Wuhan virus crisis and a Human-caused Climate Change crisis. One crisis is real, the Wuhan virus crisis, the other crisis, Human-caused Climate Change is not real, it is science fiction. There is no evidence that humans burning of fossil fuels is causing or will cause the Earth’s climate to change in ways it would otherwise not do.

Yes, exactly. Why should any aware human being imagine that many of our “experts” and “leaders” are actually blithering idiots? What kind of grades does it take nowadays to get a pass in a science class at Woke University? Here is a thought which came to mind recently. The lefty media has been shouting about rising cases of the virus in some states. Their emphasis is on the concept that removing restrictions on the population has led to increases in some states. However, note that all of the states which have shown a jump in daily new cases are mostly in the south, ie: Texas, Florida, Arizona, Southern California, No/So Carolinas, Alabama, and a few others. Taking note of that I couldn’t help but wonder if the increase in some southern states was related to an increase in new cases in other nations which sit around the same latitude as the US states.
Here are some examples of nations at lower latitudes in the NH showing elevated new case numbers, Mexico, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Egypt, and a few others. So is the correlation meaningful?
All these States have increased their testing by a considerable amount. In my State’s case, they are doing four times as much testing as they were doing two weeks ago. So that will account for some of the new positives.
We’ll just have to wait and see how large gatherings, such as demonstrations and political meetings are going to effect the count.
And then we will have to see how well we can quell the infections that result.
