There is evidence people with dark skin might have greater susceptibility to the severe form of Covid-19. In the UK the NHS at one stage considered pulling black and Asian front line staff from treating Covid-19, because so many medical staff with dark skin were dying.
One theory I have seen advanced is people with dark skin are more likely to suffer vitamin-D deficiency at higher latitudes. Vitamin-D is an important component of the body’s defence against coronaviruses. I take supplements, but I do not suggest anyone assume taking supplements will mitigate the risk. A lot of scientists dispute the vitamin-D theory. Nobody knows for sure what causes the apparent greater vulnerability.
I am very interested in the outcome of the current situation. Protesters are ignoring social distancing guidelines, and in many cases, not wearing masks. If covid-19 doesn’t spread like wildfire in the coming weeks, the scientists who came up with these guidelines are full of hot air. If everyone does start getting ill, the protesters are to blame for spreading the virus. As for me, I’d like to live in peace for the rest of my life.

The extended lockdowns are designed to help bring down Trump. These riots are planned to help bring down Trump. The left, the media, the academics and many democrat leaders would gladly trade anarchy, mass destruction, deaths and an economic depression to get back into power. Their plan is to implement the California model and remove the checks-and-balances that would let anyone challenge their hegemony.

I don’t quarrel with quite a bit of the underlying message, but it should apply to all protestors — not just those griding a SJW axe. I looked through the list and I note the majority are MPH (That’s not miles per hour, but much slower Masters of Public Health) or they are students. Not an impressive list of signatories.
I had never though about public health officials much before this mess, but lately I have begun wondering why I have found whatever they say to be so universally goofy “groupthink”; and I now theorize that they suffer from the same issues as do “science journalists”. They are wanabees who have taken a relatively less steep path to someplace. In doing so they imbibed lots of doctrine and dogma without consuming much wisdom or understanding. These strange interdisciplinary degrees that are basically a professional management curriculum are often like this.
I loathe “spokesperson speak”, they all use the same phrases and words and don’t sound like humans.
Where do they get this training?
So the left want the demonstrations so need to rationalize why it’s OK to ignore their previous advice of “social distanceing”.
Sick. Just get politics out of the scientific endevour.

Why do I think Kumbaya was playing in the background while writing most of this letter?
In all honesty, I think this letter was to diffuse the “masks as a way to obscure people’s identity”….although I haven’t seen that used before.
Of course, the greatest racism is that provided by a large segmentof the Black population, who are bound and determined to show that Blacks are victims of White. Let’s look at reality : the number of Black criminalls killed by White cops is a totally insignificant number as compared to the number of Blacks murdered by other Blacks in our cities. Claiming that Whites are the thing Blacks should fear is a gigantice anti-White racist claim that only can be believed by those who spread this huge lie. Black Lives Matter don’t give a damn nor do anything about the tens of thousands of Blacks murdfered yearly by their fellow Blacks. Heavens, that might lead people to realize that the gigantic fear experienced by Blacks living in those city areas are from other Blacks. They wany police patrols, the more the better.

The entire first paragraph of the “open letter” is a master work of unintelligent conflation of two different instances of protesting that then gets grafted into a master work of sophistry rendering George Floyd protestors in the second instance as somehow immune from the same laws as white protestors in the first instance.
The second paragraph of the “open letter” continues the woefully unintelligent conflation of the first paragraph, further sophistically fabricating white supremacy (a social issue) into “a lethal public health issue”, tenuously and clumsily linked to COVID-19 (a true health issue in the non-metaphorical sense).
The second paragraph alludes to statistics deceptively presented without full exposure of the actual numbers that reveal the truth of the deception. How are the various health disparities figured? — I’m supposing that they are based on small population numbers of blacks compared to whites, and this is okay here, but NOT okay when figuring crime statistics,which suggests a grossly inadequate double standard for figuring relevant numbers. The fact is the statistic about blacks being twice as likely to be killed by police is wrong (it should be the other way around).
There are more white people to kill, and so it sort of figures that more white people than blacks would be killed. But wait, why, then, are crime statistics so high for blacks, even though this is a minority? Fewer blacks than whites would seem to suggest that fewer crimes by blacks would happen, since there are so many more white people than black people to commit crimes. But no, this is not the case — more crimes overall are committed by black people, even though this is a minority!
These are just a few of the outlandish flaws in the second paragraph, which is riddled even further with other fatally irrational statements, to the point of being utterly absurd.
The rest of the letter is so abhorrently twisted and deceitful that I cannot bring myself to study it another second. Suffice to say that head shaking does NOT do it justice.

I have been informed by various liberals that the reason for this disparity is because racist cops have been framing blacks. Black cops are just lap dogs trying to curry favor with the white cops so that they can get better raises.

The letter is probably fake.
Speaking a a mixed race person who grew up in the 1950s having to accept even teachers referring to me a mongrel as my British soldier father in India married an Anglo Indian, I can tell you that racism in the UK is now virtually dead. Except perhaps for the sort of inverse racism that finds a white person guilty of it even when the video shows he is about 99% certainly not guilty as in the case of the US police officer. As an oldie I worked with those who fought in WW2 and one was a commando whose speciality was taking out sentries. I remember him explaining in a similar case how a photo claiming to show a policeman guilty is a near identical situation proved he was innocent. His knee was too far one way to cut the blood flow at the artery in the neck and much too far to affect breathing. A controlled test could safely prove it in minutes. He and his partner colleague on his assault team demonstrated his point were called as witnesses for the defence and the case dropped.
You are making sense. I suspected as much just from looking at the pictures. But wait till the toxicology report comes out. It will likely show massive alcohol poisoning superimposed on fentanyl abuse. A fairly reliable way of ending it all according to what I have read.
This is all about a very hurtful, especially to African-Americans, image of a white man’s knee on a black man who eventually expires.

Why are we assuming race had anything to do with the cop’s actions? He was a bad cop. Now, the easiest way for a black man to avoid ANY police encounter is to NOT COMMIT CRIME. Stop dealing drugs. Stop killing each other. Stop stealing. And if you are caught, STOP RESISTING. When I was a child, three black men stole my bike from under me. The only time I have had a knife pulled on me was by a black man. The only time my house was broken into was by a black man. And yet, I’m not a racist. I’m a realist and believe the statistics point to the problem. Stay in school! 70+% dropout rate is a problem, and isn’t “systemic” racism. Don’t get your girl pregnant then run away. Be a man!!! You want to complain that good teachers don’t want to work at inner city schools? Stop beating on the teachers. Stop the drugs and fights in the school hallways. I wouldn’t want to work there for a million dollars. The actions of our inner city people are the problem, not a handful of black cops around the country. The problem will never be solved if people aren’t honest about it.

On this Earth, there is only the human race. Therefore, to accuse anyone of racism is to affirm that they and their subject are belonging to the human race!
