A Line-By-Line Response to Greta Thunberg’s UN Speech

A climate skeptic answers the fiery rhetoric of the Left’s star climate alarmist

Greta Thunberg speaking at the U.N. 09/23/19

Opinion by JACQUES VOORHEES (from his Facebook page)

Note: Greta’s speech is reprinted below. Her quotes are in italic, mine follow each quote. If it turns out there were errors in transcription—as seems likely—I’ll try to update with corrections. I apologize for the snarky tone, but if a 17-year-old can dish it out, I think she can take it.

“My message is that we’ll be watching you. This is all wrong, I shouldn’t be up here, I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean.”

So in your first paragraph you confess that what you’re doing is wrong, and you shouldn’t be doing it. You note you should be back home and in school. OK, so far we’re 100% in agreement. Next?

“Yet, you all come to us young people for hope, how dare you?”

Not sure where you’re getting your information. No sentient adult goes to young people “for hope,” whether they’ve been “dared” to or otherwise. Normally, when adults consider young people like yourself, the operative word is “despair.” And if you’re unfamiliar with that word, it means “absence of hope.”

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words…”

Wow, you must have had very fragile dreams, and an even more precarious childhood, if mere empty words could steal them. Even words loaded with meaning shouldn’t be able to take down someone’s dreams that easily, if the dreams are even a little bit deeply held. But empty words? Greta, you need to find better dreams and cling to them with more determination. As for your stolen childhood, this makes me suspect you didn’t exactly win the lottery when it comes to parents, did you? Just sayin’.

“…and yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering, people are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.”

OK, sounds like someone’s been playing too much of the computer video game Civilization. Yes, in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI people are suffering, people are dying, and entire ecosystems are collapsing. Meanwhile back in reality, none of that is occurring. Well, none of it that is caused by human emissions of carbon dioxide at least. Greta, try to spend a few hours each day actually off your computer, so you can experience the world as it really is, not as your scary online world, and your handlers, are convincing you it must be.

“We are in the beginning of a mass extinction…”

Now it seems you’ve fallen into a time machine which has transported you back to the Yucatan Peninsula, sixty-five million years ago, when the comet was about to annihilate the dinosaurs. Either that or someone is doing a very good job of filling your head with utter nonsense. Shame on them, for scaring the socks off you. There is no evidence that we’re at the beginning of a mass extinction–certainly not of any life forms we care about.

“…and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you?”

Um, did your speechwriter not know the audience you’d be addressing today? You’re speaking to diplomats in the United Nations General Assembly. There is probably no group of people on Earth less interested in economic growth than these folks. They don’t really care about money, either, as they’re all on generous expense accounts and—thanks to diplomatic immunity—can park anywhere they want in Manhattan without worrying about being ticketed or towed. First rule of public speaking: Know your audience.

“For more than 30 years the science has been crystal-clear.”

Did you bother to look at any of that science? Thirty years ago they were saying Manhattan would be under water by now. Most every prediction so called “climate scientists” have made during the past thirty years has failed to come true. This is not science being crystal-clear. It is shamanism being crystal-clear. You need to learn the difference. A science that is not able to make what are called “useful, non-obvious predictions” is not science. It’s religion. And, I’m sorry, but you’ve become ensnared in the climate cult’s terrible clutches.

“How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you’re doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.”

Another rule of effective speaking: don’t contradict yourself, especially within a single sentence. If the “politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight,” what exactly are you expecting these UN diplomats to do, beyond what they’re already doing? If the solutions are truly nowhere in sight, you’re certainly not going to get them from this crowd.

“You say you hear us and that you understand the urgency but no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act then you would be evil and that I refuse to believe.”

Greta, on this one, best go with “evil.” Again, you’re addressing the core members of the United Nations, arguably the most worthless organization on the planet today. Even if they did believe something was an urgent problem, they’d not have the collective will to do anything about it. Actually, a better description than evil in this case would be “utterly f…..g worthless.” Remember, these are the very folks who commissioned the IPCC itself, and told it to make reports…every six years. You’d think if the world was about to end, reports of it happening could be slightly more frequent.

“The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50% chance of staying below 1.5 degrees and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control. 50% may be acceptable to you but those numbers do not include tipping points, most feedback loops, additional warming hidden by toxic air pollution, or the aspects of equity and climate justice, they also rely on my generation sucking hundreds of billions of tons of your CO2 out of the air with technologies that barely exist. So, a 50% risk is simply not acceptable to us, we who have to live with the consequences.”

Are you aware that you’re quoting alarmist predictions from the very scientists who’ve yet to be right about any of their predictions? Does that not concern you?

“How dare you pretend that this can be sold with just business as usual and some technical solutions with today’s emissions levels that remaining CO2 budgets will be entirely gone within less than 8 and a half years.”

Well, ignoring that the sentence itself is gibberish, what exactly are you wanting anyone to do? You just told us that there are no solutions anywhere in sight. You’re very good at saying what you’re angry about. But we haven’t yet heard the grand plan that will solve everything. If you don’t have it, do you really think these diplomats sitting in front of you do?

“There will not be any solutions or plans presented in line with these figures here today because these numbers are too uncomfortable and you are still not mature enough to tell it like it is.”

Your rhetoric is slipping into the category of deranged, verbal nonsense, but I do find it interesting that you—a seventeen year old—“dares” (if we can borrow your favorite word) to tell an audience of people over twice your age, that they are insufficiently mature. Rarely does insulting your audience achieve desired results, in public speaking. Might be time to consider firing your speech writer.

“You are failing us but the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you and if you choose to fail us I say we will never forgive you. We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now, is where we draw the line the world is waking up and change is coming whether you like it or not.”

Well, if change is coming whether they like it or not, why are you even bothering to give this speech? And by the way, what change is coming? You’ve already confessed there are no solutions in sight. This would seem to suggest change is not coming, at least anytime soon. And as for the eyes of all future generations being on the UN General Assembly, good luck with that. Even the eyes of today’s generation aren’t on anything the UN General Assembly does—much less will be the eyes of all generations unto the end of time. But I’m sure the people you’re addressing right now wish they were that important.

Anyway, Greta, a word of advice. You’re clearly a very upset and angry young lady, with endless dedication to your goals. Rather than hurl hate-filled rhetoric at a room of old folks whom you rightly predict won’t do what you want them to do, why don’t you roll up your sleeves and try to make a difference yourself? I think we can all agree that public speaking is probably not your best contribution to the Cause. Go back to school, take some atmospheric physics, basic chemistry, and geology classes. Maybe dabble with the design of that machine that’s going to suck all the CO2 out of the atmosphere. Trust me, it’s not yet on anyone’s drawing board. You can be the first!

And a bonus. If you truly study this issue that has so captured your attention, pretty soon you’re going to learn that the whole thing is one gigantic hoax, the greatest hoax in human history, being perpetrated by the government-educational-industrial complex. You’re going to learn that pretty much everything that’s been indoctrinated into your head is false. You’re going to learn that real scientists, tens of thousands of them, have already learned this and have gone on record as acknowledging it. You’re going to learn you’re being used by adults to turn you into a propagandist for shamanistic alarmism, and you’re going to realize that because of it, you’ve been the victim of massive child abuse.

When you learn all this, I predict that your present anger is going to look like a calm, tranquil lake compared to how you will feel then. I predict at that point you’ll decide to write your own speech. And no matter who’s in the audience when you give it, I predict it will be scathing.

Ms. Thunberg’s speech at the U.N. – video:

I watched her speech yesterday, watcher her body language, facial expressions and tone and that was my takeaway thought at the end. Just a typical teenager not getting what they want, no demand, and packing a big sad-on an stomping away to her room.

My other takeaway was that she really had no idea what she was saying really meant. I am sure she has no idea what a gigatonne is as well as all the other figures she was quoting. Some other propagandist wrote it.

I pity her. Because when all the fanfare, attention and dare I say “fame” dies she will be discarded and I am confident she is not prepared for that.

She was not preaching to the choir. She was preaching to us. She was talking in front of the choir because only the choir could give her a global stage. I don’t think that there is any question that those angry eyes were looking right at you and me, although I can’t explain how she could see us through the haze of CO2!

Her mother is an opera star and her dad is an actor….I can tell u this much, I believe both her parents are activist plus her school teachers are as well.
Her friends according to her don’t see any hope in the future. She blames everything on fossil fuels and couldn’t tell you why, just only what she’s been told. If you asked her what was the components the air we breathe
am sure she could not answer you …78%nitrogen
20% oxygen
.03% carbon dioxide
.97 argon
1% water vapor
In general you should occupy 0.38% of the earth’s total atmosphere

Sorry, but I can’t agree. The subject is one of potential apocalypse: either the collapse of the planetary ecosystem according to the left-wing globalists who peddle the story, or the collapse of the industrial and economic system if we attempt to reduce our CO2 emissions as envisaged.

Being wrong in this scenario is flatly unforgivable, no matter how passionately the convictions are held. In fact the passion makes it worse, because it ensures that the convictions will be defended irrespective of whether they survive contact with reality.

The most important thing about Greta Thunberg is mentioned in the article: she’s being used by a grossly cynical and venal agenda as a way to deflect legitimate inspection of its actions. She is not stupid, and will one day realise this.

I feel sorry for her and her family when that day comes.

Was this entire sorry episode of presenting a young girl with serious problems as their climate voice planned over a period of several years? That is disgusting to me.

My personal opinion is that Greta Thunberg needs to go to University on another continent. A very long way away from her parents. She can detox from climate witchcraft there, study domething she is genuinely interested in and generally experience life not at the beck and call of her dodgy mother.

Oh, I’m so hoping that a quality candidate from each party, Republican and Democrat, runs against AOC and routs her in 2020 – especially (and more likely, unfortunately) in the Democratic primary. Because she is as big a moron as Greta is, and just about as immature. I’ve read that the people in her district, especially the Queens portion of her district, was fed up with her lack of constituent service even back earlier in the year already. If a seasoned Democrat runs against her in the next primary, AOC could (hopefully) be a one-term wonder.

Yup.
And now that she has taken on an angry making-hate-faces affect, and turned the corner and from nervous Nellie scold to insulting know-it-all, she is gonna find out that any sympathy or leeway she used to garner will quickly evaporate and be replaced by in-kind replies. She has revealed herself as just another selfish brat, full of herself and wanting everyone to see everything her way and arrange things they way she thinks she would like them to be.
I am 100% sure that she would not like the world as it would be if her wish suddenly became true.
Lucky for her and everyone else that will not happen.
Because most everyone else, especially the people she was addressing, are every bit as selfish as she is.
And what she is asking for amounts to taking away almost everything from almost everyone, and making sure it stays that way.

The fact is, the people on the alarmist side are the ones preventing any real progress on environmental issues, or problems with solutions which are just a matter of attention and money.
Incredibly, they are even the ones against any of the actual CO2-free replacements that exist for a substantial fraction of fossil fuel derived energy, which are of course hydro and nuclear.

This is clearly the deep thought of a 10yo … who appears to have been holding her breath till she turns purple. What children and adolescents FAIL to understand is that THEIR emotions are fleeting, ephemeral, and ultimately meaningless. Even worse … emotions cloud judgement … usually at the precise time reason, logic and knowledge are called-for.

This is why children should be allowed to be children. Doing the JOB of childhood, which is to learn and grow whilst doing mostly inconsequential “kid things”. She needs to go on a date … and learn how quickly she’ll bore her date with depressing tirades about the end of the world. That sort of “growth” will suit her well.

Here’s the real problem for poor Greta and the CAGW extremists. Since 1990 co2 levels have increased by about 60 ppm and nearly all that increase has come from China, India and the developing world, while OECD countries emissions have virtually flat-lined.
The kiddies should take their protests to China and the developing world and so called adults should stop abusing very vulnerable children.
Very simple maths and yet nobody seems to understand?

Ashok Patel-

What you say is true. But consider this: what if the U.S. reduced it’s per capita emission to the current of level of India. Would that reduction produce any significant reduction in global temperature (using the current models)? Answer: It would not.

As I understand India’s pledge to the Paris Accord, they will not sacrifice economic development to reduce CO2 production (Which I absolutely agree with). So when India has developed to same economic level as the U.S. (and I certainly hope they will), with 8 tons of CO2 per capita, would that increase have any effect on global temperature (again using the current models)? The answer is: Of course it would.

Only the radical greens want the developed and developing world to live like the third world, in complete poverty, to produce some CO2 level that they think will keep the world temperature from raising 2 degree C (or is it 1.5? I can’t keep up).

After a year or so they will be thoroughly numerate and their arithmetic skills will have improved dramatically.

Disagree. While China and India may have surpassed the rest of the world in CO2 emissions, to say that the increase is because of that plays into the hands of the warmunists. Yes, concentrations have increased by 60ppm – but we don’t know with absolute certainty where it came from. If the planet is warming naturally, the ocean burping could easily account for all of that.

Craig, it is interesting that Sweden has fared poorly in the tree management business compared with Finland next door.

The great CO2 sucking mechanism absolutely exists. It is called the tundra or taiga. When ice sheets covered great swathes of the northern hemisphere there were few trees, and CO2 fell to a very low level. This is the opposite of what should happen according to the “CO2 is left over if there are no forests” theory. Ignore that.

When the ice sheets melted the permafrost took over with a few inches of melting in summer. Then the permafrost retreated north a few thousand km and we have only a few million sq km of it left. About 14m.

When it melts, which I hope it does, billions of trees will grow there without us lifting a finger. The birds will replant the entire Arctic. Trees already cover the tundra to a height of one or two feet. If the permafrost melts they will grow rapidly.

Suppose a tree weighs one ton. Half of that is carbon. So at a tree density of one per 5 sq m in an unpopulated region, then after about 100 years the trees will have absorbed over a trillion tons of carbon out of the atmosphere and sequestered it in a vast renewable energy farm. That’s trillion with a T. And that doesn’t count the systematic sequestration of carbon in the root systems and grasses.

Such an amount will pull about 40 years worth of CO2 out of the air at today’s emission rate.

http://www.forestecologynetwork.org/climate_change/sequestration_facts.html

The total stored in boreal forests will certainly reach the current content of 106 tons carbon per acre, or about 18 trillion tons of carbon. Even if we were to continue at today’s rate of emission, the new trees and biomass would absorb 750 years worth of it, resulting in no net increase in the concentration.

You want to suck CO2 out of the air? Melt the permafrost or stand back and let Nature continue to do so as it has for the past 20,000 years.

There is no climate crisis caused by CO2. There isn’t nearly enough of it as things are now.

And all the above figures assume that Antarctica will remain frozen. Toss that into the forest area and see what happens.

Talking of tree planting, when I became a New Zealand citizen, I was gifted a native tree called a Totara. They can grow for 1000 years or more. It is planted north of Wellington, the capital of NZ. If it is left to grow I believe it will absorb more CO2 than I will ever have emitted in my entire life and probably many other people too.

Who wrote her speech that she read? I think that she did a good job delivering it despite the nonsense. She mentioned science. The AGW conjecture seems plausible at first but a more indepth look at reveals that it is based on only partial science and is full of holes. For example, the AGW conjecture depends upon the existence of a radiant greenhouse effect caused by trace gases with LWIR absorption bands. Such a radiant greenhouse effect has not been observed in a real greenhouse, in the Earth’s atmosphere or anywhere else in the solar system for that matter. The radiant greenhouse effect is nothing but science fiction so hence the AGW conjecture is nothing but science fiction as well. The reality is that, based on the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, the climate change we are experiencing today is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the idea that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero. It is all a matter of science. Apparently it is science that Greta is not aware of. She has a general science mentality, assuming that all of the science “facts” that she has read in text books and what her handlers are telling her are true. She really needs to be back in school.

The science in this case has never been ‘crystal clear’. If ECS is 1.5, which even the IPCC says it could be, there is less need to do anything.

She is making the classical mistake since someone first thought the rain gods needed to be appeased, confusing ‘ought’ with ‘is’; a very common teenager style mistake. The ‘ought’- meaning moral imperative is clear, the ‘is’ -what ECS actually is and how we should respond, is not.

Dear Greta. Since you don’t do school you missed the part on the scientific method. Here you go. No charge, I’m glad to have been able to help you.

What do you do when you can’t follow the science in detail? This applies to all sciences not just climate but I’ll focus on climate science.

Do we “believe” one group or another? No, belief is for religion not science. Do we go with whatever the majority of scientists say? No, consensus is for politics not science.

So what do we follow? Predictions! The scientific method requires them. If you are not making predictions that can be tested you are NOT doing science. See this 1 minute clip for an explanation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7YcimsISUk

Get PREDICTIONS with DATES and temperatures attached to them from both the natural cycles and CO2 groups. Then check up to see if their predictions happen. It is easy for anyone to do and kind of fun. Always copy the URL so you can check the wayback machine if they “clean up” their mistakes.

As far as global warming goes, we are at a great juncture, a true fork in the road. The IPCC projects 0.5-1.0 C increase and the natural cycles scientists predict 0.25-1.0 C decrease over the next 20 years. They can’t both be correct but they both could be wrong.

I will make only one prediction. CO2 will continue to increase by 1-2 PPM yearly over the next 20 years. China and India have said so and that is where it is determined.

And so says the woman who gets to sail across the oceans in a multi million dollar racing yacht. How many other 16 year old kids in the world get to do that. Equity? HOW DARE YOU!

and;

“… my generation sucking hundreds of billions of tons of your CO2 out of the air with technologies that barely exist.”

Having established that the older generation is Bad, and that it is going to fall on HER generation to save the world using yet to be developed technology, this same Greta also calls for her generation to ‘strike’ from school. Greta is both actively declaring it will need to be her generation that needs to fix the problem, but refusing to allow her generation to prepare for it. HOW DARE YOU!

He also showed the total number of comments received and simply subtracting comments posted worked out to be about 1700 comments not posted. Many of mine were not posted even though none of them were in breach of SMH’s site policy. It was clear the moderators are deliberately not posting contrary comments keeping article comment threads on “message” especially ones about climate change.

Her mother represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest.

US readers may not be familiar with the history and significance (or rather, insignificance) of the Eurovision Song Contest. It was, from the first, a vanity project of the European bureaucratic “elite”. While musicians have certainly benefited from wealthy patrons historically, most of the world has largely considered music to be a creative human endeavor with the good being recognized as such in the market place, and the bad never making it into the history books because it is swiftly rejected. It takes a Soviet-Russia level of politics to believe that something good in music is created by governmental fiat rather than human abilities and desires[*]. A child coming from a family steeped in this kind of thinking is a damaged child, and Thunberg should be viewed in this light.

[* When the exception, ABBA, won the Eurovision song contest, I was not yet a teenager. But at the time I still recognized that they were clearly “cheating”: It was widely accepted that the competition was not supposed to include entrants that were actually likely to be popular with the masses. That was not then, and is not now, how the European Project was supposed to operate. It was more about “creating” something good by sheer force of political will, not about selecting something which was produced spontaneously and found to be good. It is also an insight into what the Brexit vote in the UK was really about.]

The children of her generation have the highest standard of living in history. Access to food, shelter, healthcare, education, information. All made possible by abundant cheap energy in the form of fossil fuels. Thunberg seems completely oblivious to this.
And for the hundreds of millions who have yet to benefit from the world’s progress, what would be the quickest and most effective way to lift them out of poverty? Yes, greater access to abundant cheap energy. We have seen this happening in China and India, and hopefully soon other still blighted countries.
Thunberg is a child being used in a most cynical way by politically motivated first world crusaders.

Fully agree. Of the 1.2 billion people on Earth who still don’t have electricity in their homes, I wonder how many are supporting her words. Well of course, most of them will never hear them without access to TV, etc.
They will continue to breathe in the fumes from the open fires for cooking and heating, and their children will still not be able to do homework to further their education due to the lack of electric lighting.

I half expected her to hold her breath until she turned bright red while stomping her feet and wringing her hands. Her speech writers didn’t even try to hide the fact that she had speech writers.

It’s possible she will someday understand how much she’s been used as a propaganda piece by people who actually don’t care about her at all because she’s the current expedient tool at hand. If that happens, she’ll realize her life to that point has been a waste and that she was psychologically abused with her parents being the enablers. If she never understands this, it will be an even bigger tragedy for her. I truly pity her for her for the abuse she’s receiving in the service of propaganda.

What did today’s adult population ever do for today’s young generation?
Absolutely nothing!
Well, except for:
– developing the medicines, health care, food supplies and wealth to provide them with the longest life expectancy in human history
– more democracy across the world than ever before
– more gender equality than ever before
– more LGBT equality and understanding than ever before
– budget flights allowing them to travel the world – several times a year – to fill up their social media accounts with photos and videos
– more education opportunities than ever before
– more protected nature reserves across the world than ever before
Well, apart from all of that, absolutely nothing. We can feel we have failed them.

Does Greta ever give real press conferences when scientific questions can be asked? I found a so called press conference in Switzerland in which I learnt she has 2 nice dogs. But I would like to ask her what caused the 130 metre rise in sea level after the last Ice Age. Does she know the sea rose this amount at a rate about 5 times faster than at present for 8000 years. What’s her knowledge of sun spot cycles, precession and Milankovitch cycles. She did say she should be back at school so I agree with her on that account.

Greta’s line of oratory does work if only by making people feel guilty for not doing more. It all helps in shifting public opinion towards the alarmists.

I do actually admire her, even though I disagree with her, for her willingness to stand up for something rather than remaining slumped on the sofa with her phone like so many of her age.

Link the scientific evidence that support any of her limited scientific quotes. If it were apparently viewed by the scientific majority then they shouldn’t be hard to find? Science has always been about observations and supporting the hypothesis, never about majority views.

The 50% reduction of CO2 emissions keeping under 1.5c are based on climate models so are not evidence and just guesses not even based on observations.

Continuing the way the planet has been warming in the troposphere, temperatures will be under 1.5c/per century even if humans do nothing.

That does not justify to take urgent climate action even if it was little more, so bringing in alternative energy sources should be at the right time and pace without doing huge damage to people’s lifestyles.

A good piece but a bit disingenuous in repeatedly characterizing “…[solutions] still nowhere in sight” as if there was no answer proposed or available. It’s not a big leap to interpret “nowhere in sight” as referring to actions to date, not options available. There is no shortage of bad ideas to “solve” the climate “problem”. Greta’s handlers are just clever enough to not have her mention any specifics, to avoid alienating any supporters, who might be bent on specific solutions or scared off by socialist underpinnings.

Little Greta’s childhood and dreams were stolen by the climate scaremongers who taught her to fear the future. She’s right that she should be in school, learning about photosynthesis in high school biology class, by which plants pull CO2 out of the air, water out of the ground, and energy from the sun to make sugars that feed all the animals and people of the world. She might learn that plants grow faster with more CO2 in the air, meaning that in a high-CO2 future the Earth will be greener and more fertile than it is now.

Little Greta thinks that there is some limit or quota on how much more CO2 can be emitted before some catastrophe occurs. If she studied some physics and chemistry, and did a mass balance on the atmosphere, she would discover that CO2 concentrations in the air are only rising half as fast as would be predicted if all human CO2 emissions remained in the atmosphere. There are already natural processes “sucking” CO2 out of the air, half of total human emissions.

According to Le Chatelier’s Principle, a chemical reaction speeds up if the concentration of a reactant increases. This means that any reaction that removes CO2 from the air will speed up if the CO2 concentration increases, so eventually the CO2 removal rate will catch up to the emission rate, and the CO2 concentration will level off, at a level which promotes rapid plant growth and high crop yields.

Little Greta, why would you be afraid of this?

With all due respect… and appreciation for the effort put in this post here, and the effort shown in the most of comments, still from my point of view this stands as a clear case of showing the proper lack of getting the point and entirely missing it.

First, regardless of how “hot” or direct the speech, I fail to see or detect any judgmental or
prejudice position there, where in contrary, lots of it I see here, in consideration of that speech… what or why could that be?!!

Second, even when that speech, very dense, highly concentrated and very “heavy”, in the consideration of the issue and the place, seems to me to be quite balanced in it’s context and subject matter.

I think, and hopefully I am not wrong in this, that if carefully “seen”, heard, and carefully considered, without prejudice, then
it actually may taken as pointing the finger clearly at the madness of the climate political crisis.

The UN chart, as far as I can tell does not include, not as yet at least,
“The eternal salvation of the World or the Planet, or propagation toward some phony thing like Eternal economical growth”.

Any platform or actions, that diverges, obstructs or considerably misdirects the UN from discharging the duty as per the merit of it’s charter, must not be, or must be abandoned, as else further persistence in that direction, renders UN as a phony institution and well within the consideration of the clause of “betrayal”, quite useless and with no merit.

Oh, well, I just maybe happen to be wrong with this, but no harm there I think.

cheers

If Greta Thunberg is 16 now, in a short time, she will be 18, which will mean the transition to adulthood, and she has nothing to show for her life other than reading a scold to people at the UN. I see no abstract ideas or concrete solutions in her speech. It’s just a scold – how DARE you! – and nothing else. Okay, she got a chance to vent in public and now what?

I doubt that she has any real-world knowledge of anything in the natural world, period, whether we’re speaking of biologicals or the weather or anything else. It is obvious from her prepared speech that she only “knows” about a very limited part of the planet and certainly has no real idea how it functions. She comes off as just literate, but there are some indications that she does not really understand what she’s talking about. And reading a scold at a group of people gathered to hear her “message” – well, that’s not particularly effective with me or with most of the reasoning adults I know.

There is nothing – zero, zip, nada – in that prepared speech that is definitive or addresses real-world concerns such as wildlife habitat being appropriated for housing or industrial use when it isn’t necessary to do so, and other properties could be put to that kind of use. Doing that leaves the wildlife areas alone.

There is no substance at all to her speech. It is just a tantrum in writing, an angry spat at the world in general, with no real substance to it, the use of a collection of buzzwords and catch phrases, and clearly indicates a complete lack of understanding of environmental sciences, period.

She’ll be an adult in a short time. Her “charms”, if she ever had them, are wearing off. At some point, her lack of ability to function in a normal way will bring an end to this business. I would be more impressed if she had kept her temper under control, but she does not know how to do that, which is not uncommon in people with Asperger’s. Therefore, when she really throws a screaming fit in public, she will lose her audience completely.

Her parents should be taken to task for what they’ve allowed to happen with her. When they’re gone, she will be lost. I doubt that she can function without them.

September 25, 2019 10:03 pm

LOL. Sooo cruel… But I think you got a couple of things wrong, she may be young, and ignorant, but I don’t think she’ll ever be a “lady”. And I doubt very much that she’ll take your advice to become a scientist.

But while I was guffawing shamelessly (happens so seldom in our current politically correct era), I was sobered by the thought of so many thousands of young marching morons with evidently no sense of humour.

So thanks for a good laugh. Made me think of the song ” Short People are BAD”. It’s probably lucky that I can’t remember the lyrics or the show it was in, except that it was sung by a very short balding black guy, because the way things are going, singing a song like that (or even having a copy) may soon get you prison or lynched.

Short People by Randy Newman

Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live
They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin’ great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
Well, I don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
Round here
Short people are just the same
As you and I
(A fool such as I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It’s a wonderful world)
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love
They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick ’em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That got beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin’ peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They’re gonna get you every time
Well, I don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
‘Round here

During the Pliocene Era, which preceded our life cycle, the earth was actually cooling. This was after the dinosaurs ruled the land, when it was a lot hotter. Chairman Mao , with his Little Red Book galvanised the students and children to call to task their teachers and parents who failed to toe the communist line. Tales of extraordinary humiliations and consequences dealt out to these teachers and professors were described where children of Greta’s ilk formed disciplinary committees armed with the sanction of this Red Book.

My country had a climate strike on Friday last. After reading of an experiment in America I thought I would give it a go.
I put on a nice suit and tie, doctored up some research papers and went out in to the streets to our high school climate activists. Approaching groups of kids I told them I was a research scientist who had found a dangerous compound that was reaching dangerous levels in our atmosphere, it was being found in our water-ways and seas, getting in and on fruit and vegetables and even in our drinking water.
On the pretext that I had put my concerns to government bodies and put my research papers on the internet I was getting very little response to my campaign to raise awareness.
My reason for talking to them was to see if they could start a social media campaign and raise awareness with local politicians and government to eliminate or reduce the production of Di hydrogen Monoxide.
Our little climate activists were all for it if was going to help the environment and preserve the world for future generations.
The were somewhat put out when I wrote down the chemical compound for them H2O
The general consensus was I had lied them and used misleading facts to fool them. I explained to them that they had already been lied to and misleading facts had been used to perpetuate the myth of global warming and went on to show them the facts and figures on global warming.
The consensus was I was full of it, a global warmer denier and what their teachers were teaching and the media reporting was true.
It was after this that I realized we had little hope when the education system, the media, and little Greta hogging the world stage were brainwashing our kids.

Your response to this brave young lady’s outpouring of concern, is for lack of a better summation, rubbish. Even if climate change is partly a natural cyclical phenomenon, and even if the anthropomorphic contributions to climate change greenhouse gas production would not change the natural cycles, Ms. Thunberg’s contribution to global discourse is significant. And that in itself, regardless of who writes her speeches, or who handles her public persona, is commendable. Of course your commentary is ‘worthless’, but hers is not. She does tell these UN folk something they need to hear. She is courageous to speak to power like that, and she shows more backbone, and moral fiber than anyone surrounding the populist leaders of the world, of which the most ignorant and dangerous by far is D.Trump. Personally, I feel that the world’s leadership is deeply misguided, and within their echo chambers of ignorance, totally devoid of the political will to break free of that reality. They are not excited by solutions, and they do not create the right environment for exploring all the options. The are failed leaders. And they are as Ms. Thunberg states, ‘immature in that they can not evolve their ideologies, and ethos, to solve these pressing world issues, All they know to do, is to spout rhetoric and wash over their incompetence, with cyclical empty promises, and repeated plays of strategy and marketing to make them look as good to their constituents, as possible. They are NOT true leaders. If they were, they would encourage legislation which changes building codes, changes industrial design parameters, changes ways and methods, and means of critical systems for energy, production, for food production, for waste management, for transportation etc. They would seriously look at alternative energy, alternative design, and alternatives to everything that is in fact the problem. Climate change my dear, is most greatly due to a hundreds of years of massive global deforestation, and our problems on earth will be pollution, and a lack of balance in the systems, and ecological collapse, and resultant epidemics, and other threats to our health and well being. Climate change may lead to a runaway greenhouse effect like the one that left Venus hotter than hell, and this is still a very real possibility for Earth, unfortunately. However, climate change is a factor of livability, and our so called leaders, who have consistently failed to create real shifts in our thinking, have also become so corrupt, along with the big industries and big business and legacy that controls them, they have all failed together, and if it takes a seventeen year old to say it is so, so mote it be, It is so, and she said far better than you or I ever could. This article and the way you wrote it, is a shame to your site. Whatsupwiththat. I applaud the efforts of any and every one who stands for what is right, and I see much of it, in the message Greta Thunberg put forth. There is truth in it, and you failed to see that truth, and you too added to the wrong perspective with your ignorance. It is such ignorance that is the enemy of all that could be, for the betterment of humanity and the sancity of this great living planet.
