Banning Plastic Straws, Fossil Fuels: Here Are Seven Standout Moments From CNN’s Climate Town Hall

From The Daily Caller

Chris White Tech Reporter

September 05, 2019 12:45 AM ET

  • CNN’s seven-hour climate town hall allowed ten of the top Democratic presidential candidates to flesh out their positions on climate change, with two of the front-runners expressing support for the Green New Deal.
  • Mayor Peter Buttigieg suggested the Democrat’s fight against climate change could be more challenging than even World War II.
  • Sen. Bernie Sanders offered a one-word reply when CNN asked him if he would reinstate bans on certain kinds of light bulbs.

The Democratic Party’s top presidential candidates took turns at CNN’s climate town hall Wednesday hashing out their positions on everything from banning plastic straws to eliminating fossil fuel production.

Businessman Andrew Yang, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont all plan to plow trillions of dollars into climate change mitigation. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts meanwhile has staked much of her campaign on holding oil companies responsible for man-made global warming.

Wednesday’s town hall allowed ten of the top performing candidates to voice their positions on climate change and environmentalism. Here are seven of the most significant moments that happened during the event. (RELATED: Sen. Booker Reveals $3 Trillion Climate Plan)

1: Biden Applauds The Green New Deal

“I think the Green New Deal deserves an enormous amount of credit,” former Vice President Joe Biden told CNN’s Anderson Cooper before listing off what he considers to be the problems with the much-criticized idea to stop global warming.

He noted that “85 percent of the problem” (climate change) is coming from the rest of the world.

2. Harris Says She Would Ding The Filibuster To Implement The GND

“If [Republicans] fail to act, as president of the United States, I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal,” Sen. Kamala Harris of California said to audience applause.

Harris said Republicans should “look in the mirror and ask themselves why they failed to act,” calling the fight for the GND one “against powerful interests.” Democrats would need to win Senate control along with the presidency to have any hope of ending the longstanding tradition.

3. Yang Won’t Talk About Electric Cars

Yang skirted questions about whether every American will need to drive electric cars in the future. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Yang why he would promise federal funds for “potentially risky” and experimental means of energy production.

“We’re here together because we can. This is a crisis. In a crisis, all solutions have to be on the table. If you were attacking on one side, you should be researching various alternatives on the other side. That to me is just responsible management and responsible leadership,” Yang explained.

4. Sanders’ One Word Answer To A Question About Light Bulbs

“The Trump administration announced plans to overturn requirements on energy-saving lightbulbs. … Would you reinstate those requirements?” CNN’s Cooper asked Sanders, who has described himself as a self-avowed democratic socialist.

The Vermont senator answered with one word: “Duh.” Sanders’ comment came several hours after the Trump administration announced new rules Wednesday rolling back requirements for energy-saving light bulbs.

5. O’Rourke Wants To Bring The U.S. Back Into The Paris Climate Accord

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke promised that he would re-enter the Paris agreement on “day-one” of his presidency. The Texas Democrat announced his climate plan in April, which will cost $5 trillion over 10 years to build out renewable energy and infrastructure, among a host of other pet projects.

6. Klobuchar Says No To New Coal Power Plants

“I wouldn’t allow for building of new coal plants.” Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said in answer to a question about ending fossil fuel use and her hope to get to “carbon neutral by 2050.”

7. Buttigieg Likens Climate Fight To WWII

“This is the hardest thing we will have done — certainly in my lifetime. This is on par with winning World War II. Perhaps, even more challenging than that,” Mayor Peter Bugiegieg told CNN’s Chris Cuomo.

FYI Ladies and Gentlemen:

The global warming / climate change scam has NO scientific credibility – this false hypothesis was disproved decades ago by many credible scientific observations, which concluded that climate is NOT highly sensitive to increasing atmospheric CO2.

So what is really happening? Why have we been bombarded for decades with unscientific propaganda about a false climate crisis?

My hypothesis is that nobody could be this scientifically wrong, this incredibly stupid, for this long – they must have a covert agenda.

I continue to assemble evidence of that covert agenda, which is the totalitarian socialist control of Western society and the end of democracy.

This hypothesis is not at all improbable – more than half the world’s population already live in totalitarian “socialist” dictatorships, which are really more like absolute monarchies / oligarchies.

The following is just some of my evidence from the USA and the UK – more to follow:

The extreme-left political agenda was recently revealed by Saikat Chakrabarti, chief of staff for Democratic New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who said:

“Changing the Entire Economy”, The Wall Street Journal, July 12, 2019
https://www.wsj.com/articles/notable-quotable-changing-the-entire-economy-11562970210

“The interesting thing about the Green New Deal, is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all, … Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing,”

The same plot is unfolding in Great Britain. Prof Sir Ian Boyd, the government’s chief environment scientist, said the public had little idea of the scale of the challenge from the so-called Net Zero CO2 emissions target.

“Climate change: Big lifestyle changes ‘needed to cut emissions’ – DEFRA Chief Scientist”, BBC News, August 29, 2019
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-49499521
[excerpts]

“People must use less transport, eat less red meat and buy fewer clothes if the UK is to virtually halt greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the government’s chief environment scientist has warned.
Sir Ian Boyd has lifted the lid on the reality of the programme. We will all have to accept big lifestyle changes – travel less, eat less, consume less.

But eventually some form of compulsion or rationing will be necessary, if climate targets are to be met.
The Science and Technology Select Committee let the cat out of the bag last week, when they officially announced “In the long-term, widespread personal vehicle ownership does not appear to be compatible with significant decarbonisation”. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-49425402

When they ultimately find themselves being told what they can and cannot consume, where they can travel and what foods they are allowed to eat, they will be furious about the way they have been misled.”

We are probably in the beginning of a 30-year Grand Solar Minimum. That means very shortly now, the world will begin manifestly cooling and it will be impossible to refute the fact that CO2 plays little to no role. That’s why the Bilderburg types are shrieking and howling “CRISIS!!!” now, because they’ve got very little time left to hoodwink the public into self-impoverishment, even self-chosen voluntary extinction in the name of “the environment.” They act more like an insane doomsday cult every day.

If Hillary had gotten in, globalist vassalage to The Elite would have been a done deal; all the groundwork was laid. Trump’s surprise election upset their long-game plan and now, like yellow jackets swarming as they sense the approach of frost, they’re lashing out in maddened frustration.

Hi Goldrider,

Several well-informed people on this blog will say the Sun is not approaching a Grand Solar Minimum (GSM) – I have no opinion because I have not studied it in detail.

Let’s discuss your hypothesis without assuming that a full GSM is imminent. The conclusions are much the same – the only question is “how much global cooling?”

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

We do know that the Sun is at the end Solar Cycle 24 (SC24), the weakest since the Dalton Minimum (circa 1800), and SC25 is also expected to be weak. We also know that both the Dalton Minimum and the Maunder Minimum (circa 1700) were very cold periods that caused considerable human suffering.

I wrote in an article published 1Sept2002 in the Calgary Herald that stated:

“If [as we believe] solar activity is the main driver of surface temperature rather than CO2, we should begin the next cooling period by 2020 to 2030.”

That prediction was based of the end of the Gleissberg Cycle of ~80-90 years, dated from 1940, the beginning of the previous global cooling period from ~1940 to 1977.

“Kyoto Hot Air Can’t Replace Fossil Fuels”
Calgary Herald, September 1, 2002, by Allan M.R. MacRae
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/01/10/polar-sea-ice-changes-are-having-a-net-cooling-effect-on-the-climate/#comment-63579

In 2003 Theodor Landscheidt’s published his famous prediction of global cooling, in which he wrote:

“… it can be seen that the Gleissberg minimum around 2030 and another one around 2200 will be of the Maunder minimum type accompanied by severe cooling on Earth.”

Within the timing accuracy of such predictions, we are essentially saying the same thing, although Landscheidt is predicting more severe cooling.

“New Little ICE Age Instead of Global Warming?”
Theodor Landscheidt First Published May 1, 2003
Energy & Environment
https://doi.org/10.1260/095830503765184646

“Abstract
Analysis of the sun’s varying activity in the last two millennia indicates that contrary to the IPCC’s speculation about man-made global warming as high as 5.8°C within the next hundred years, a long period of cool climate with its coldest phase around 2030 is to be expected. It is shown that minima in the secular Gleissberg cycle of solar activity, coinciding with periods of cool climate on Earth, are consistently linked to an 83-year cycle in the change of the rotary force driving the sun’s oscillatory motion about the centre of mass of the solar system. As the future course of this cycle and its amplitudes can be computed, it can be seen that the Gleissberg minimum around 2030 and another one around 2200 will be of the Maunder minimum type accompanied by severe cooling on Earth. This forecast should prove ‘skillful’ as other long-range forecasts of climate phenomena, based on cycles in the sun’s orbital motion, have turned out correct, as for instance the prediction of the last three El Niños years before the respective event.”

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION:

You wrote in full:

“We are probably in the beginning of a 30-year Grand Solar Minimum.

Apart from the reference to a GSM, I think your hypo is valid – there is no question that global warming alarmism is not only false, it is fraudulent, as evidenced by the Climategate emails, the Mann hockey stick (MBH98 and subsequent papers) and rational scientific analysis.

The global warming alarmists use Goebbels tactics, later adapted by Saul Alinsky in “Rules for Radicals (1971), to stampede the gullible public.
http://www.psywarrior.com/Goebbels.html
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_for_Radicals

Rules for Radicals
1. “Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”
2. “Never go outside the expertise of your people.”
3. “Whenever possible go outside the expertise of the enemy.”
4. “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
6. “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”
7. “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”
8. “Keep the pressure on.”
9. “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”
10. “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.”
11. “If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.”
12. “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.”
13. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

Rule 7 states: “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”
That rule explains the frequent changes in the name of the false crisis – from global warming to climate change to sustainability to climate crisis to extinction – I may have missed a few others. Keep it new and exciting for the sheep – mustn’t let them get bored.

Rule 13 states: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
That explains the vicious hostility that warmists display towards anyone who dares disagree with their falsehoods, and the blatant old lie “The science is settled”.

Alinsky’s rules closely describe the propaganda strategy of the global warming scam, and it has been executed with precision, with huge covert funding from extreme leftist sources.

One further point:
The scenario you describe, of significant global cooling even as fossil fuel combustion continues, has already happened, from ~1940 to 1977, a period when fossil fuel combustion rapidly accelerated and atmospheric temperature cooled – that observation was sufficient to disprove the global warming fraud many decades ago.

I wonder what the beginning of global cooling period will look like:

Maybe a cold weather delay of one month in the planting of the huge Midwest North American grain crop? Oh – that happened for the past two years!

Maybe a cold-and-wet weather situation such that ~30% of the huge USA corn crop did not even get planted, because the ground was too wet for farm equipment ? Oh – that happened this year!

I believe the use of the word “intelligent” to describe that event, implies a quality that the event and participants lack, entirely.

I suggest the sentence would be slightly more apt as “Probably the least idiotic thing to come out”.
Of course, similar phrases will suffice, e.g.;

“least mental”,
“least destructive”,
“least anti-civilization”, et. etc.

Nothing like a little “population control” and “gender selection” to set things straight, right?

Biden said the U.S. military considered Climate Change to be the biggest threat to the United States.

Some Obama appointees may look at things that way but no competent general officer would make that claim because it is obviously false.

I wonder what retired General Mattis opinion on this would be? He might say it needs looking into, but that’s about as far as a reasonable man can go, and there’s no way Mattis would say climate change is the biggest danger the U.S. faces.

Human-caused climate change has never been shown to exist, so if you say something that doesn’t exist is the greatest danger to the U.S. then that makes you a delusional person.

I wonder what the Chinese and the Russians and the North Koreans and the Mad Mullahs think when the look at these fool Democrats? They must be hoping, and in some cases praying, that one of them can beat Trump. They would much rather deal with the Democrat fools than with Trump. A Democrat victory would be a victory for worldwide totalitarianism.

Elizabeth Warren had the most “reasonable” plan to save the world. She included nuclear power as part of her plan. I believe most, if not all the others rejected nuclear as an option.

All of the plans to save the world from CAGW (Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming), including Warren’s plan, were very light on the details. For most of them it all boiled down to: We need more windmills and solar, and trust us, we know what we are doing.

Reasonable??? Eeekkkk!!!
Warren wants to:
1) Ban all fossil fuels, oil, coal, natural gas.
2) Rip out all the FF infrastructure, so the industry can not be restarted.
3) Round up and imprison everybody associated with the management of the industry in any way. Presumably including all the investors as well (except her friends, of course).

A new Candidate will be chosen at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

“A new Candidate will be chosen at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.”

That could happen but I don’t know of any Democrat that could fill that bill successfully. All the reasonable ones will be rejected by the socialist base, so any outsider picked is going to be just as hampered by the “socialist” label as any of the present presidential candidates.

The Democrats have nothing to offer. Other than hate, anger and division.

Tom,
It was Harris that was promising to get rid of the Senate filibuster rule. Otherwise I agree with you that Klobuchar is quite ignorant on a wide range of subjects. I’m embarrassed that she represents my state, but in my defense, she was elected on the power of the vote in and around Minneapolis, having no support outside the city.

“It was Harris that was promising to get rid of the Senate filibuster rule.”

I realized my mistake when I read Joel’s post below. It was a long seven hours.

September 5, 2019 9:20 pm

Kammie Harris was quoted saying, (As President) “I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal,”

As a Senator herself, she knows that is a Big Fat Lie, and everyone there in audience should have known she was lying her ass off for politcal points with the ignorant viewers.

It’s a basic Separation of Powers she lied about. And she must know she was lying, and the Moderator let her get away with it.
The President has zero authority to direct the operating rules of the Congress internal deliberations.

But when your opponent is scaring off independent voters, and scaring even Democratic voters who cherish their jobs and cheap gas, let’s not interfere with this clown car of self-destruction called the DNC and their socialistic bent.

At any rate, I fully believe at this point, Elizabeth Warren will be the DNC nominee come June 2020.

Maybe not. Maybe she remembers the previous occupant of that office.
“A stroke of the pen, the law of the land. Kind of cool, huh.”
Remember that one? And then when Congress was reluctant to do his bidding, we got this.
“I have a pen, and I have a phone.”
What would Congress do? Consider:
A) Democrats + RINOs = Majority. Both the House and, especially, the Senate roll over and play dead. As they did before.
B) The Courts can not / will not intervene.

Now who is to stop the president from doing whatever they want.

The Supreme Court crushed Pres Obama’s attempt to declare Congress “in recess” in order to make recess appointments. Obama declared Congress in recess by his own definition, contrary to the Rule the Senate had adopted on recess. SCOTUS rejected Obama with a 9-0 unanimous slap-down.

Obama lost unanimously trying to dictate Congress’s internal affairs. Simple Separation of Powers.

So would a Miss Prez Kammi trying to declare the Senate filibuster rule void. Only the Senate majority can make that call. She knows that. But She lied anyway. A typical Democrat lie to deceive her utterly ignorant base of supporters/voters.

Ms Kammi though has zero chance of getting the DNC prez nomination anyway.
It’s merely an academic point I make that she blatantly lied and the moderator didn’t care one bit to correct her.

That would be about right: A proven liar representing the Democrat Party. What could be more approriate.

These candidates live in a phony make believe world disconnected from reality.

Their absurd claims and concerns about energy and climate issues are simply bazaar.

The world’s developing nations now completely dominate and control global energy and emissions
outcomes.

Nothing these ridiculous people propose or believe in changes this reality.

Their phony energy and climate “war” has been lost and only they and their ignorant media supporters fail to comprehend and acknowledge this conclusion.

Larry,
This Democrat clown car is talking to their Base of ignorant voters. They are not talking to you and me.

Let’s not interfere. Let them go “Full Retard.” The more retard they go, the better. Let them nominate a “beyond Full Retard” candidate to oppose Trump.
Then whoever is their nominee is in July 2020 can’t run from their own words in the General election.

Winning the most votes during the Democrat Primaries only means that “you might be chosen” as the Democrat POTUS Candidate in the General Election. It is not a per se “shoe-in”, because, to wit:

Pledged delegates are elected or chosen at the state or local level, with the understanding that they will support a particular candidate at the convention. Pledged delegates are, however, not actually bound to vote for that candidate, thus the candidates are allowed to periodically review the list of delegates and eliminate any of those they feel would not be supportive.

Currently there are 4,051 pledged delegates. 714 are superdelegates, There is no process to win superdelegates, since they can vote for whomever they please.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delegate_(American_politics)

The radical leftists live on a differnt planet. A very scary planet from the way they descibe it.

The Democrats are living in a false reality created by their leaders and by the Leftwing News Media as a mean to their gaining political power.

So nothing will change? They will make us use energy saving light bulbs, and the oil companies will be taxed, Oh, and trillion, upon Trillions of dollars will be added on to the national debt, which is already 22+ trillion.. No nuclear plants, more land used for solar and bird killing fans, and the weather will be the same, but because they will bot be scaring us any more, we will believe that its all normal again?
