Jake, there is no scientific basis for the phrase “climate emergency.” Although there is a basis for the phrase “manmade climate emergency.” Obama’s Clean Power Plan and other regulatory malfeasance created a “manmade climate emergency.” President Trump has subdued that emergency. Alexandria Occasional Cortex’s Green New Deal cultural revolution would be a womanmade climate catastrophe. Hell, even the sainted IPCC tell us that the “cure” for your “climate emergency” would be a genuine international-made climate calamity .

Bonus Part Trois: DNI Worldwide Threat Assessment
Furthermore Jake, the 2019 Worldwide Threat Assessment of the US Intelligence Community never mentions a “climate emergency”… Nor does it state that “manmade climate change” is a “threat” to these tangentially United States. The word “climate” appears in the 42 page document 6 times:
- “The United States will probably have to manage the impact of global human security challenges, such as threats to public health, historic levels of human displacement, assaults on religious freedom, and the negative effects of environmental degradation and climate change.”

Item number 5 is 97% horst schist and climate change is very much like schist… It happens. Some of it is anthropogenic and some of it is natural. (How can anthropogenic be unnatural? Humans are natural.) The effects of climate change alter some conditions positively and others negatively. The intelligence community’s (IC) job is to determine how these global changes affect our national security and communicate it to the President and the people who actually defend this nation.
The IC’s job is not to determine if there is a “mandmade climate emergency”, meriting the destruction of our economy and a Maoist-style eradication of individual liberty.

As you stated above, “The IC’s job is not to determine if there is a “mandmade climate emergency.”” It is, however, the IC’s job to make assessments of various scenarios asked of them. for example, in the 1970’s the CIA warned that Global Cooling could cause terrorism.

In other words, they predicted that a new ice age would be the result of…Global Warming! And this was in 1958.
The article references the two scientists who developed this hypothesis, but I haven’t done any deeper diving.
Like I noted in the post, the IC’s job is to advise POTUS on how changing conditions in the world affect potential national security threats to this nation. Not to determine if the changing conditions in the world pose a threat, much less, advise POTUS on how to “fix” the changing conditions. Glaicer bulldozing New York City would definitely affect potential national security threats to this nation.
I have a copy of that Harper’s Magazine article. One of the highest awards that the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (member since 1981) issues is the Maurice Ewing Gold Medal.

Unfortunately most reporters these days have decided to be advocates of their personal positions instead of just reporting on events. They have convinced themselves that the real purpose of journalism is to “tell compelling stories” in order to “make a positive impact on the world”. Edward R. Murrow must be spinning in his grave.
Murrow used his bully pulpit to tirelessly to help take down Joe McCarthy, Trump’s moral grandfather through Roy Cohn. Remember that when you hear today’s journalists pushing right-wing fact-benders for the truth.

I like the 2 words “climate subsidies”From my CPA experience i have challenged more than 1 warmist to find the number in Exxon’s annual report to shareholders. If I read a sharper article, it seems they may be referring to using depletion and depreciation expenses as tax deductions. Same as when Walmart sells a Pepsi and deducts68 cents from the dollar sale as Cost of Goods sold.
Oil pays for seismic before drilling and may never spud a new well. It is a deductible expense. Not a subsidy.

The law SOX requires officers to sign to the authenticity of their data so they can’t hide “subsidies” if there were any.
I do understand there were some subsides for drillers for Coal bed methane.
More on SOX. It demands internal controls to safeguard the data. The warmist industries, allow the scientist to delete and manipulate data. Deny FOIA requests which uncover mishandling. SOX separates data gathering, storage and processing workers.
