Poor countries plan to demand more control over global development bank climate cash supplied by rich countries.
Small Island States, Facing Rising Seas, Seek Economic Overhaul
Small island states facing a “frightening” rise in sea levels will seek investments in everything from solar energy to fisheries to boost their economies at a U.N. summit next week
Leaders will meet in Samoa in the Pacific from Sept. 1-4 to drum up partnerships with companies, development banks and donors on projects that bring in dollars and jobs while protecting oceans and environments, organizers said.

“Beaches disappearing, hotels and port facilities having to move – it is for some countries a very frightening outlook,” the head of the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP), Achim Steiner, told Reuters.
Islands were interested in developing fisheries, moving into eco-tourism and shifting to wind and solar power from imported diesel to generate electricity, among other projects, he addded.

RICH NATIONS FAULTED
Aid has been “over-promised but under-delivered. This is the biggest hurdle,” Marlene Moses of Nauru, chair of the 44-nation Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), told Reuters.
“We are calling for a paradigm shift” to take more account of the needs of island states, she said.
A draft AOSIS statement, obtained by Reuters, mainly faults rich nations for failing to address global warming.
“International action to address climate change remains grossly inadequate, and emissions of greenhouse gases continue to rise at a distressing rate,” it says, calling for more action “with developed countries taking the lead.”

Are you all feeling properly guilty? Clearly the only solution to keep the leaders of poor nations smiling is to immediately surrender all control over our promised guilty rich nation climate cash into their care.
How should Climate Change be addressed? Should it be Sir, Madam, or Your Royal Highness?
They never say.
How should it be addressed? How about the nearest jail?
I find it funny to use the phrase “to drum up” when they are going to Samoa.
I guess it’s official that the term “paradigm shift” has replaced “Marshall Plan” for money grabs. The Paris Agreement is the next term coming up since “North-South Agreement” and “Third World” did not stick.
over-promised but under-delivered
Well, blame Obama. He promised them money that his successor had no legal obligation to follow (since “the promise” was made by Obama but never sent to the Congress for ratification). They should feel lucky they got as much cash from Obama as they did before he left office.
Why blame him? He is free to contribute his own money now.
He only hands out OPM, never his own money.
What was the advance for his memoirs? And his wife’s? And his kids? And his dog?
Well, they could always try to borrow against future payments received. But then Obama is not running the IMF and World Bank into the ground anymore.
Sorry but plastic is the new global warming cause. Better start staging plastic trash scenes on the beach for the cameras.
I seem to remember that countries would have to prove that any issues they had were caused by global warming. Good luck with that !!
This reminds me of the time I was in Paris at the Baccarat store shopping for crystal when the communists unemployed staged a strike (all stores closed and everybody got out of the way).
Just what do “unemployed” do when they’re on strike? Go to work?
Nothing. It’s hard to get out of the habit.
That’s why nuns wear them.
Redistribution of wealth, both within and between countries is a big part of AGW solutions.
They want to develop fisheries and move into eco-tourism. So then they plan that the fishing boats will be powered by sails and oars, and the eco-tourists will arrive on sailing ships?
What happens if the wealthy countries donate money to poorer ones to fight climate change and the latter’s emissions continue to rise and/or the money is used for other things? Do the former get a refund?
I presume that the leaders of the small Nations will be meeting in a luxurious Oceanfront resort in Samoa on the edge of the ominously rising Pacific Ocean.
He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither. Ben Franklin
This vid points out who owns the federal reserve and why JFK was assassinated
Two types of wealth redistribution, domestically through social welfare programs and subsidies and internationally through really bad trade deals and the latest programs thought up by the UN. This is a new form of international socialism.
Has anyone actually documented that any of this island nations have suffered any harm to date?
“port facilities having to move”
Too much water for a port?
Demand ? !!1 Rather than holding out your hands for cash, hold your hand on your asses. Because that is what your owed. NOTHING !
“Clearly the only solution to keep the leaders of poor nations smiling is to immediately surrender all control over our promised guilty rich nation climate cash into their care.”
Exactly! Why should wealthy nations feel any responsibility to fulfill their promises? Screw the poor!
That’s what I always found “amusing” about the Paris accords.
The root of it was always a way to transfer wealth from the US to other nations.
Other large polluting nations were not expected to contribute “initially”.
Meanwhile, the US has actually exceeding the emissions reduction goals while many
nations that are still members have not, or even got worse.
Climate change politics has always been about wealth transfer. With the U.S. thankfully out of the free-cash game, it’ll be interesting to see how the EU countries, especially Germany, handle the entitled demands of the third world “climate-damaged” nations. My guess is that after a bunch of false starts, Germany will come to the same conclusion that the U.S. did: NFW is it worth committing hundreds of billions to corrupt third world govts.
Probably too late to set up a surfboards and hookers concession.
Wrong adress. There’s money enough: blame your local leaders.
