Thank you Senator Kerry, for saying what we already know

This just in from The Daily Climate, Kerry tells us we are winning, but the blames the usual suspects rather than the message itself. I love the part about where we “made up our own science“, which is sort of like when Kerry swiftboated the weather back in 2008, except there was really no support for his position in science. Of course that lack of basic understanding couldn’t be the reason “people just turn off” when he’s talking about climate, could it?

Kerry: ‘We have lost the notion of responsible capitalism’

Venting frustration at the lack of progress on environmental issues, U.S. Sen. John Kerry voices the exasperation of a core constituency in President Obama’s re-election bid.

By Doug Struck For the Daily Climate

BOSTON – Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry, exasperated at what he called “the flat-earth caucus,” on Sunday described the frustrations of working on environmental issues in the U.S. Senate.

Even amid the “Tuesday Group” – a bi-partisan bloc of lawmakers, mostly Democrats, who are interested in energy issues – “you can’t talk about climate now,” Kerry said. “People just turn off. It’s extraordinary. Only for national security and jobs will they open their minds.”

Kerry, in a dinner speech at Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, voiced the exasperation of an environmental movement that had high hopes with the election of President Obama in 2008 but has been disappointed by the administration and largely shut out after the Republican takeover of the House in 2010.

“The irony is that we used to be a nation that valued science. We have become a nation that is now discarding science,” Kerry said. He spoke at a conference on the challenges facing the Arctic, attended by Iceland’s president, Olafur Grimsson.

Opponents to the legislation “made up their own science. They made up their own arguments,” Kerry said. “The Republicans created this idea of (carbon credit) trading because it avoided command and control by the federal government.” Then, “they just decided to pick up and brand this a negative.”

Kerry blamed brothers David and Charles Koch, oil billionaires who have bankrolled attempts to discredit climate change, as well as opposition from energy companies. “You have Peabody Coal. You have MidAmerican. They have these big old cash cows, these old coal-powered plants. It’s just cash coming in, and they want to keep it that way.

The environmental mentalists messed up nuclear power, so they forced the use of coal. Quit whining about what you caused.

Smokey – worse than Gore even. Difficult to believe that could even be possible. I think that this guy is so out of touch with reality that he actually believes the crap he spouts. Could someone tap him on the shoulder and mention Australia and “carbon”. Let him know how well that’s going? On second thoughts, don’t bother.
Anyone mind if I change the subject for a moment? Definitely a pleasant watch:

God bless GWB from saving us both from a President Gore and a President Kerry. Just for that, he should get his face on Mt. Rushmore.
But seriously, I think most of these guys believe almost everything that comes out of their mouths. Don’t underestimate both the size of their egos and the innate human ability for self-deception or the capacity to believe two mutually exclusive things at the same time.
But how about President Obama? Does he believe carbon is polluting our streams? Does he believe George Bush is responsible for the Solyndra debacle? It’s possible. Anyhoo, what’s the difference between Obama and a used car salesman? The used car salesman knows when he is lying.

Smokey Said: “Can you imagine if this lamebrain had become President? The U.S. certainly dodged a bullet that time!”
TRUE! But there is no denying we got it between the eyes with the current President.

Where to begin with this guy? “…you can’t talk about climate now,” Kerry said. “It’s extraordinary. Only for national security and jobs will they open their minds.” Yep, spoken like a true aristocrat, by someone who hasnt held a real job a day in his life. It’s extraordinary alright. How could us plebs actually be concerned about making a mortgage? What’s that anyway?
What’s interesting is that this freeloader could bloviate

Funny how the world tunes out a hypocrite that singularly has the carbon footprint of dozens.
Exit question. Is owning a power plant more or less of a cash cow than marrying rich widows?

Seconded

After the election, he’ll have more flexibility to fully express his intentions.

The thought of either Gore or Kerry winning those elections is enough to chill the blood. Thank you, George!
I was disappointed in 2000, but changed my mind over the next couple of years. My gratitude now increases every time either opens his mouth! Neither can bear the thought that science is utterly opposed to “proving” a theorum by blocking research that might contradict it.

Now he’s done it. Al Gore will be very mad at Kerry for not giving him credit. After all, Al invented ethanol credits and the Internet. Who else can make those claims?

Here is an example of IDIOTIC GREENTHINK in action:
I posted this on another thread, but it is worth repeating:
The “Planet Under Pressure” Conference in London is charging every attendee a “Carbon Offset Fee” of 35 quid (pounds).
Most of the “Carbon Offset” is going to a stove program in Africa…..wait for this……
SO THEY CAN PRODUCE MORE CO2..!!!!!!

“”””” “The irony is that we used to be a nation that valued science. We have become a nation that is now discarding science,” Kerry said. “””””
No Senator Kerry; WE used to be a nation with a written Constitution, that told our Government what they were allowed to involve themselves in for our collective benefit, and what they are NOT to involve themselves in, but leave to us (and/or the Several States).
And the climate history of the entire globe, is not one of the things, you are instructed to take care of, or waste our money on, or tax us for.
Article one says you may tax us to pay the debts, and to provide for the common defense and general welfare OF THE UNITED STATES; not of every tom dick and harry, who can’t find a paying job, so needs government grants to live on.

The man is a patronizing, clueless twit. The Warmies, especially those who have invested heavily in green garbage…and I sure hope he did… are in a bit of a systemic shock right now and all they can mumble is that the unwashed are merely distracted by the economy, but with better “communication” they’ll get back in line. Hold on tight, boys; any day now. That’s actually very good. It’ll keep them busy spinning their wobbly wheels while the ground under them sinks. What I don’t unertand is why the Koch brothers and the energy companies don’t man up and hit Kerry head-on, rudely and crudely with the contempt this pitiful muppet deserves. Right to his puzzled visage, with a detailed reminder of his other lies, a chart of the billions of public money the Warmies have wasted and stolen, and with a loud public challenge to be specific with his accusations.

Gee were senators rushing about a century ago protecting relativity and E=mc^2 from denialists? That they are doing so now tells you what climate science has become.

‘The White Swan’ rides again. This guy set back trusting politicians AT ALL half way to 1776. Nixon was the one, but at least his eyes shifted back and forth as a sub-conscious warning. Cash and Carry had every opportunity and he screwed us. Al ‘D’ Gore finally just bought a $7 million house just off the beach on the West Coast. looks like he forgot all about the seas rising and drowning out coastal areas. It matches the 50 foot houseboat with enough motorpower for three of them.

Here in England the worm is turning. The attention of the public has been grabbed by the rapidly increasing price of energy, both electricity and gas (domestic gas, not petrol) which are used for household heating and cooking. The consumers of these forms of energy query the price increases they are told that the money is going to the owners of the much-disliked windmills and the rich estate owners who rent out land to the windmill companies. Then the consumers are stirred to anger.
The coalition government has messed up badly with their most recent budget, forcing everyone to contemplate exactly what is being taken by threat of the use of force from their wallets and purses. The continually escalating prices of petrol and diesel through increased taxation levels, brought in to ‘encourage’ everyone to use the non-existent or poorly provided public transport to cut down on the ‘evil CO2’ are beginning to cost people their increasingly rare jobs.
Green is no longer popular. The electorate is awakening to the fact that ‘green’ and ‘sustainable’ mean “Expensive”. Discontent is now being voiced openly, no-one with whom I have talked in the last three days has anything other than very disparaging remarks for anything ‘green’. The level of discontent now threatens our government which is now revealed as being as corrupt and venal as their socialist predecessor.
I once loved this country and all it stood for. Now I am desperate to leave it as it slides inexorably into corrupt oblivion.

So the president of Iceland, Olafur Grimsson, attended Mr Kerry’s talk. I wonder if Mr Grimsson is aware of the uncertainties in Arctic temperature measurement?

I think it is worthwhile to hearken again to the warning of Eisenhower in his Farewell Address in 1961:
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present – and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

The problem is, that these warm-earthers are NOT the elite. They are elitists, who hold themselves in high esteem. As John Kerry said, finger in the face of a waiter in Massachusetts who would not give him a table ahead of others, “Do you know WHO I am?”
Yes, Senator—we all know now, too well…

As a non-US contributor, I am hesitant to comment on this thread. I don’t know much about Kerry. But this kind of statement, coming from any politician anywhere, is a sign of someone who is totally out of touch with his constituents. Curse these ignorant peasants, who are worried about their economic and national survival, when I know better!
Here’s hoping the ignorant peasants remember his views next time his name comes up on a ballot paper.
