Not content to keep to the terrorism prevention mission for which they were founded, DHS’s Janet Napolitano now plans to battle a religious war of “climatic jihad”. Here’s what happened the last time Washington DC took on weather in February 2010 (but not climate). The capital was shut down of course. Now that’s “environmental justice”. Look for pat downs at airports soon for those carrying concealed carbonated beverages.

Napolitano Says DHS to Begin Battling Climate Change as Homeland Security Issue

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)
(CNSNews.com) – At an all-day White House conference on “environmental justice,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that her department is creating a new task force to battle the effects of climate change on domestic security operations.
Speaking at the first White House Forum on Environmental Justice on Thursday, Napolitano discussed the initial findings of the department’s recently created “Climate Change and Adaptation Task Force.”
Napolitano explained that the task force was charged with “identifying and assessing the impact that climate change could have on the missions and operations of the Department of Homeland Security.”
According to the former Arizona governor, the task force would address specific questions, including:
“How will FEMA work with state and local partners to plan for increased flooding or wildfire or hurricane activity that is more serious than we’ve seen before? What assistance can the Coast Guard bring to bear to assist remote villages in, for example, Alaska which already have been negatively affected by changes up in the Arctic?”
The findings from the Homeland Security Department (DHS) also asked: “(H)ow can we focus on how climate change is going to affect our rural citizenry including those who live along our borders both northern and southern?”
…
The conference did not define “environmental justice,” and the only reference to the task force that can be found is on the DHS Web site. The June 2010 Department of Homeland Security Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan states “climate change has the potential to accelerate and intensify extreme weather events which threaten the nation’s sustainability and security.”

Well, one impact runaway global warming will have on Homeland Security is that airport inspections will be faster. It’ll be so hot that everyone will travel in their skivvies and there’ll be no need for metal detectors or pat-downs ;o)
On the other hand, if we head into another ice age, air travel will slow to a crawl as everyone will be in long underwear, wearing several sweaters, and bundled up in greatcoats and woolen scarves. Watch out for terrorists hidden between layers of clothing.
There. That saved the task force a lot of time. Meeting adjourned. They can all go home now.
With all this bluster over the “law” gettin tough on climate crime, I am again reminded that so far not a single climatologist has sued anyone for defamation. It’s not like those nasty skeptics haven’t been making some pretty serious allegations, and one would think these good scientists would be itching to file suit, but nada.
Gee, I wonder why… Might have something to do with the rules of evidence? Like you have to prove the allegations are false? That might tend to cause blow-back methinks. Perhaps the Department of Homegrown Insecurity would be better used investigating climatologists, but that’s just dreamin.
What will FEMA do in the case, that the weather hampers their operations?
Lets see now,…..
Page One of Janets Bumper Book of U.N Field Operations – now with 50% more turnkey/stepwise counter insurgency plans. (Bonus fold out map of North America, formerly ‘United States of…’, now Economic Zone 4.1)
F = Forget the victims. (What about the opportunities for cheap real estate? Gulf anyone?)
E = Engineer a PR response that looks good but achieves nothing. (Wait a few days, no need to rush in)
M = Massage local Pork Barrel politics to ease the way for disaster capitalism.
A = Aggravate the suffering by calling survivors “Refugees”, detain and then shoot them. (Did we mention the National Guard will counter this insurgency, cos, you know people with no homes, no food and no water compare favourably with the Taliban. )
So if it snows so much the power goes out and you run out of food and heating oil, and you get a knock at the front door from some folks dressed like Blackwater/XE, sporting FEMA day-glo black vest,…please, I beg you,…don’t answer it.
Did I miss anything?
Mission creep.
In spine-chilling spades.
Your tax dollars at work.
Who will be the new chairman of the House committee that overseas the DHS? Time for some hearings!

In France, IPSL scientist and political activist Jean Jouzel, IPCC Vice President, warned of a “Plan d’Adaptation au Réchauffement Climatique” i.e. a plan to adpat to the effects of Global Warming… The guy announced this with a straigth face meanwhile it is more a plan for cold winters that needs to be developped since trains, cars and railways are all affected by snow.
That fits very well into the bigger picture:
~ Some climate scientists conspring at unprecedented cost for the american taxpayer, and homeland security doesn’t care.
~ Big finance, big oil and influential left individuals lobbying for unprecedented climate change profits at unprecedented cost for the american taxpayer, and homeland security doesn’t care.
~ Obama’s administration threatening / paying / spying governments, to push through an agenda at unprecedented cost for the American taxpayer, and homeland security doesn’t care.
Asked out of snow-free climate ignorance – do Stevenson screens and/or MMTS devices get a cap of snow on top? Anyone looked at this?
I wonder what well-connected lobbyist influenced the DHS’s decision this time around? If you do some research, you’ll see the only reason airports have full-body scanners is because L-3 Communications has well-connected lobbyist.

Some say this country is turning into socialism or fascism. I disagree. I believe it is turning into a plutarchy, which is a combination oligarchy and plutocracy. In an oligarchy, rule is by the privileged few and plutocracy is rule by the wealthy, which in this case is big corporations. L-3 Communications is a prime example of how the big corporations rule. Also recently the DHS shut down several websites, most of which related to illegal file sharing such as through Bit Torrent. How is illegal file sharing a national security risk? It isn’t. But the movie and music industry hate such websites and the MPAA and RIAA has powerful lobbyist. (Sidebar: you should always pay for your music and movies; I do not condone illegal file sharing.) Corporations don’t lobby just to get a tax credit. They do it because it works. So if the DHS keeps expanding its arms, I must wonder what lobbyist bribe is the DHS listening to now.
How much longer until the DHS shuts down websites like this one because it offends a big business or one of the privileged few? You have to wonder.

No more dumber than making your pilot on the flight you will take to be patted down and searched and his small pocket knife taken away from him when he has a crash axe in the cockpit. And– if he wants to kill everyone, he can just push down on the controls until you crash or just pull up on the controls until you crash. Either way will work. What a bunch of fools we are for letting our govt. get out of control. I guess we will pay someday. Maybe we are now.

“Don’t knock the Federal Government being closed for three whole days, have you any idea how much money that saved the US taxpayer ?”
No doubt very little if anything. Those GS-12 drones playing solitaire in their little grey cubicles lose not a cent when the government “shuts down.” Full pay carries through unscathed after a pro forma declaration by the White House. Thus it has always been.
When some time ago I came across a (military?) assessment that Global Warming was a threat to national security equal to terrorism, or greater, I had an “Uh-oh!” moment. The door had been opened a crack, to give us a peek at vast arbitrary state intervention by force into the economy.
Words have consequences!
The concept of environmental justice has been around for a decade. Until now it’s been a conspiracy of “civil rights” activists with predatory lawyers, to sue cities and companies for leaving dirty industrial sites in slum areas. The net effect (along with millions for the lawyers) has been to forbid new industrial development in slum areas, thus forbidding employment for poor people. None of this is “unanticipated consequences”, all is part of the plan.
Now we have Heimatssicherheitsdienst expanding the concept to service the whole country. And I do mean service in the cattle-breeding sense, not serve.
The idiots have to act busy and important.
I am sure if they catch granny flying a plane with snow balls packed in her bloomers, she will have to be detained. Snow is very rare.
This stunt following one where she said 1.5 years ago that soldiers coming back from war were a threat tells me she is deranged.
She can ‘splain herself in hearing infront of the House.
“What assistance can the Coast Guard bring to bear to assist remote villages in, for example, Alaska which already have been negatively affected by changes up in the Arctic?”
8:11 est Fairbanks is -30. Pretty negative if you ask me.
Not being american I’ve got to ask – with all the (supposed) checks and balances built into the american system is there no sane person with current authority who can prevent Janet Napolitano from taking this astonishing leap in mission creep? I find it amazing that she has the authority to do this without congress having to ok it.
Almost as bad as the US Army, Navy and joint chiefs saying that climate change is one of the biggest threats to national security. The Navy even has officers who are oceanographers who are making comments about the climate and military impications of an ice-free arctic.
Just another way to go from “doggle” to “boon”.
I personally feel this is just one more piece of evidence that the Hulk’s great enemy has not been defeated… I of course speak of:
The OBAMANATION
har-di-har. But seriously, the gustopo just can’t stop can they? Ah well, the rats are not stupid because they flee the ship… its that captain that insists on going down with the ship that is the foolish one.
What is the difference between “justice” and “environmental justice”?
The first is this, and the second is this.
This has nothing to do with emergency response to climate change or changing the climate. It has everything to do with what is being said about climate change and by whom. Now they can claim that what is said about the climate can be deemed a threat to the nation. Creepy mission indeed. Most sheeple will be unaware of the significance of this move. Check, ….
I wonder when the reign of Janet Incompetento will end. It is bad enough that she wants to practically strip search 100% of people getting on planes to catch the 0.000001% who wants to blow planes up, but now she want to put the incandescent light bulbs in the same league as Osama Bin Laden.
It looks another ugly wart has grown in Mamma Bureaucracy’s face.
Is all about feeding useless bureaucrats with your hard earned money, US taxpayers.
JoeH. Part of the problem is that Homeland security was set up after 9/11. As with most things set up as reaction to something, it was not well thought out. It was given way too much power.
Congress is a strange thing they love their power, but they love even more ceding power to regulatory agencies.
Congress could cut of funding to Homeland security for this purpose. I hope they do but I am not holding my breath.
She’s not from California is she??
