ECMWF Models Throwing Cold Water on Extreme Germany Heat Wave Forecast Next Week

From the NoTricksZone

By P Gosselin

Recent Germany forecasts of “never seen before heat” coming next week are already fizzling out. Of course there’s going to be some hot weather next week, but probably nothing like the click-baiting media have been warning.

Snowfan at “wobleibtdieerderwaermung” reports today that none of the ECMWF models is predicting a heat wave and that they continue to show heavy summer rainfall across large parts of Germany.

The SWISS model (above-left) is forecasting heavy summer rain from July 25, 2026, through early August across large parts of Germany, except for the southeastern half. The AISF (above-right) is forecasting heavy rainfall of 40 to 50 mm across all parts of Germany through August 9, 2026. Source: Kachelmannwetter model forecasts for precipitation amounts in Germany, with additions. (It’s important to note that model forecasts can vary widely from model to model beyond 5 days out).

The AI version (below) of the ECMWF (top) also doesn’t forecast a heat wave, just two days with temperatures over 30°C:

ECMWF July 25 forecast. No real heat wave.

Ironically. amid all the media hype over drought and heat, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic have been quite chilly over the past week, with reports of ground frost or near ground frost yesterday morning:

Next week we’ll find out if the forecast models mentioned above were right.

It all depends on where the high pressure system over the western part of the Sahara is going to be. If it sends the 48ºC heat bubble to Europe via Spain and France you could see some nice summer days in Germany. The problem with that is that it doesn’t really cools down at night.

Yes, that has been the downside of the nice weather in the UK allied with high humidity. At the moment, out in the countryside it cools down nicely at night so you can sleep.

With regard to the current spate of “wildfires”, I haven’t seen any reports about how these fires were started. I’m sure we’re in the season when muslims like to do such things, is there any evidence that arsonists were involved?}

Slap slap, naughty boy.

These fires are ‘fueled by climate change’, the cause matters not.

(Yes loads of evidence of malice at play.)

96% are arson according to a report from the European Union.
The scale is because of the lack of maintenance and preparation (equipement, firefighters etc.).

Wool is no longer an essential product, so the large flocks of sheep that grazed the grasslands bare and prevented young trees from growing older than a year have disappeared.
The production of fast-growing trees for the paper industry has also taken over many landscapes with highly flammable tree species. In France, this is not a forest fire, but a fire in a tree production area where trees stand as close together as possible. The same happens in Portugal.
So yes these fires are man made.

Weather forecast may or may not be right.

Gosh.

And I thought WUWT had server space/cost issues!

And Germany has already had record highs this year anyway.

“And Germany has already had record highs this year anyway.”

If only they could “save” some for this winter ….
