British Politician: “happily fill the room [of Green Policy opponents] with carbon monoxide”

Essay by Eric Worrall

The Liberal Democrat leadership have sent Councillor Michael Tarling to an awareness course instead of suspending him.

Lib Dem councillor suggests he would gas anti-Ulez campaigners

Michael Tarling says he would ‘happily fill the room with carbon monoxide’ in response to post about meeting against new zone

By Patrick Sawer,  SENIOR NEWS REPORTER 29 July 2023 • 6:00pm

A Liberal Democrat councillor suggested that anti-Ulez campaigners should be gassed with carbon monoxide in a social media post denounced as offensive.

Michael Tarling, a councillor for Christchurch, in Dorset, said on Twitter that he would “happily fill the room with carbon monoxide” in response to a photograph showing a church hall where a meeting against an ultra-low emission zone charge being introduced in Edinburgh was to be held.

Mr Tarling, a chartered construction consultant who once appeared in pantomime, posted his reply on Friday morning.

The Lib Dem leadership has decided not to suspend him, preferring instead to send him on an awareness training course. A party spokesman said: “Michael has apologised for his comments and has agreed to take on the appropriate awareness training.”

My question – what level of outrageous behaviour does it take to get suspended from the Liberal Democrats? Do you actually have to commit mass murder to get kicked out, as opposed to publicly fantasising about mass murder?

Do not underestimate how damaging and dangerous this kind of speech can be. History is full of examples of people publicly fantasising about mass murder, then the situation escalating to actual genocide.

The Lib Dems proved long ago (when they tried to overturn the result of the democratically held Brexit referendum – on the grounds that “people didn’t know what they were voting for”) that they are neither liberal, nor democratic. They are the wokest of the woke and extremely dangerous.

Sadly…yes. There is a huge majority of voters who believe that they MUST vote for somebody. They trot out drivel such as their grandfathers fought and died for them to be able to vote. But they fail to see that continuing to vote for failed incompetent – and in the case of the Tories, fraudulent since they haven’t been conservative for years – parties just prolongs the agony. A mass abstention next year would be a shock to their systems. People understand that Labour are likely to be a huge expensive disaster but given that the Tories have been much the same in 13 useless years, voting them back in just for not being in Labour will just deliver more of the same.

Occasionally alarmists show their true colors.
I provided several similar examples in essay ‘Climatastrosophistry’ in ebook Blowing Smoke. My favorite was the then President of the Royal Society, Sir Paul Nurse, calling in 2014 for climate deniers to be “crushed and burned”. nothing happened to him either.

Why would we want them suspended from their political party? Their outrageous statements are a gift of truth about who they really are—nasty tyrants—that are probably more powerful persuasions against them and their policies than anything the conservative parties could say. It will take time for the trickle to become a flood. CAGW, renewables, etc., are now too big (to be allowed) to fail. Alarmist scientists (and for that matter activists, lobbyists and politicians) have to decide the best time for them individually to switch sides or at least confront their belief systems and start acting like scientists. They are well practiced in consensus and that will be the basis for most of them to make a decision. They are not well practiced in speaking up.

This reminds me a bit of our own conservative press, claiming proof of Biden’s dementia every time he forgets his pen or fails to read the teleprompter properly. Biden is senile, without doubt, but proposing every human frailty, however minor, as proof of Alzheimer’s redounds to our detriment in two ways: 1) We all begin to appear demented, as we all have forgotten that second item we were supposed to carry up the stairs, or failed to make that bank deposit about which the wife reminded us three times, and 2) all such criticisms begin morphing into one word: “Wolf! Wolf! WOLF!!!” As a student of Steven Koonin, I understand man’s influence on the climate to be a very small percentage of the reason for change, and I also understand that the current elitist movement to impose unworkable green ideas will impoverish the world’s leading economies*** and destroy the middle class. But I also believe we must maintain a rational sense of humor. Was Tarling suggesting an increase of CO2 to 1K or 2K ppm, which would induce drowsiness and inactivity? That was more likely his intent than wholesale Nazi-style murder. I believe we should control our impulses and refrain from over-reaction. It does not benefit us to react irrationally, in the manner of our opposition. We must adhere to principles of of logic and balance, on this and all issues.

*** Second and third world economies generally ignore the green nonsense. They are building multiples of the number of coal-fired power plants that we are currently retiring. In fact, it is arguable that the entire green movement is an attempt at global economic levelling – a transfer of western wealth to eastern and southern economies. I believe second and third world economies should be allowed, and where practical, enabled to compete, as Nixon enabled China back in the 20th century. It should be our hope that lesser economies can grow to enjoy the prosperity western countries have accumulated. But I do not support any plan to voluntarily transfer our wealth, and the future of our children, to foreign entities, so many of which are controlled by dictators and demagogues.

In fact, it is arguable that the entire green movement is an attempt at global economic levelling….

But were it that simple, and benign.

The west is the perpetrator of a socialist New World Order employing all the organs of power at their disposal – The UN, the WHO, the IMF, the World Bank, WEF, Common Purpose etc.

These organisations have one thing in common. They have all been established by the west.

China and Russia have no influence over them so the ideas that China want’s to enslave the world to communism or that Russia want’s to march across Europe are patently ridiculous.

A One World Government, which the European Union bureaucrats are desperately keen on, involves open borders, with peoples of nations that haven’t bothered to improve themselves in the last 200 years. Europe has huge problems with immigrants, illegal or otherwise simply walking, or in the UK’s case, sailing into a country of their choice. It’s happening in America as well.

Where it’s not happening is Russia and China. They value their nation states and cultural identities.

The western ambition of a Global Government has nothing to do with altruism. It’s a means of controlling the public. To do that without too much bloodshed America must firstly ditch the Second Amendment, by whatever means, and citizens be forced to surrender their arms.

As this Globalist disease sweeps across the planet and engulfs nations, crippling their citizens with bureaucratic laws enforced by, for example, an army armed IRS employees, and Central Bank Digital Currencies, so it becomes the playground of the Malthusian elites.

Agreements are being made, as we speak, with the Bill Gates funded WHO so they control the national health policies of every western country in order that they can induce lockdowns, mandatory vaccination schemes and digital ID’s for every citizen, for even the potential of a disease outbreak in a far flung land.

Climate lockdowns are already happening in the UK with 15 minute cities, Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) schemes and road pricing designed to eliminate personal transport for all but the wealthiest.

In Scotland the insane SNP government is proposing to introduce legislation that will make it impossible for home owners to sell their homes unless they conform to certain ‘climate friendly’ standards e.g. equipped with Heat Pumps, Solar Panels, and layers of insulation, all costing a cool £100,000 for houses often worth only £200,000.

How’s that for Malthusian ambition?

The elephant in the New World Order room is that unless Russia and China can be forced to play ball the whole thing crumbles, which is where Ukraine and Taiwan come in. Except that, using Ukraine to destabilise the Russian government isn’t working out too well. Whilst western economies are heading toward a death spiral the Russian economy is doing rather well. Despite the 12th sanctions package about to be launched on Russia by the west, the previous eleven having failed.

Russia is the one thing standing between a world of sovereign nations and a world of a Global Government. Which is why every member nation of NATO is throwing everything it has in terms of military hardware, training and cash at Ukraine.

If the Russians can’t be defeated in Ukraine, the New World Order Klaus Schwab brags about dies. No more ‘you will own nothing and be happy’. No more eating bugs for the good of the planet. Identity, sexual and race politics will beat a hasty retreat as Soros’s cash for these subversive activist movements dries up. No more funding for Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion climate activist’s either.

So, no. This is not about global economic levelling. This is about an elite class controlling and managing the worlds population to their ideological standards, including population reduction to their preferred levels.

the entire green movement is an attempt at global economic levelling”

What a horrible thing to do though. “Economic leveling” as you euphemistically put it, is just Socialism/Communism, brought in under false pretenses and pushed with lies and coercion. It will, with absolute certainty, result in net suffering and death, as such endeavors always do. This is because when you “level” the playing field by redistribution, you disproportionately punish the most productive members of society (of whom there are relatively few… see the Pareto Principle) and “benefit” the unproductive. This redistribution results only in hobbling the productive and wasting resources on the unproductive.

You might think that’s harsh, but the reality is people are not equal, peoples abilities vary greatly and some are many orders of magnitude more productive than others. This seems to me to be one of the primary misconceptions of “progressives”, they cling to the false assumption of tabula rasa, that there are no innate differences between them (but also paradoxically that your racial identity is of paramount importance and determinative of whether you are an oppressor or oppressed). If you want to maximise wellbeing of people, then put as few impediments in the way of productive people as possible. They will produce such a bounty that there will be surplus productivity such that people will not need to work day and night to survive.

It is true, that there is corruption in capitalist systems, but that is not inherent to them or unique to them. The current state of affairs is far from ideal, with over a century of fiat currency corrupting free markets and enabling rampant government spending that is driving whole economies to ruin. But this is not caused by capitalism, it is a corruption of it, one of the primary corruptions of it which distorts a free market so that winners and losers can be “chosen” based on their proximity to the faucet of conjured currency. But, that’s going a bit off topic.

In short, leveling the playing field helps no-one, because the only way you can do it is by cutting down those who stand above, to the detriment of all. Attempting to do so under false pretenses, and denying that is their aim when called out, is reprehensible.

MarkW
Reply to  MarkH
August 1, 2023 3:34 pm

Two points, the first point is that as you say capitalism does not create corruption, however for corruption to really thrive you need socialism.

A corrupt company is an inefficient company, under capitalism a corrupt company will be out competed by it’s more ethical competitors. If a company routinely cuts corners, it will end up creating inferior products. As long as consumers are allowed to freely choose who they are going to buy from, they will choose the better product.

The more government you have, the easier it is for the corrupt to escape the consequences of their corruption. When the corruption is in government itself, then you the consumer are scr#wed. Government permits no competition.

The second point is that government action has never caused a leveling in income. Instead government intervention always results in greater income inequality. The bigger and more interventionist the government becomes, the greater the level of inequality, and it is those who run government or feed off it, who end up getting richest.

He ought to have read the article more closely. CO2 would have to be in far greater concentrations than that to induce drowsiness – 10,000 ppm at least and not deadly below about 45,000 ppm. Carbon monoxide, on the other hand, is very dangerous at lower concentrations and has a history of being used as a method of getting rid of undesirables under a certain teutonic regime. The Lib Dems are casting themselves in an historically unpleasant position with views such as these.

Any reasonable human being. But then, no reasonable human being would advocate mass murder to support their “cause”. Despicable.

Growing up in the 50s and 60s, life was considered brutal compared to today. If we misbehaved we would be punished including a backside warming. We didn’t get everything we wanted. Christmas we could expect several packages under the tree but not everything we ask for. Birthdays were a $5.00 limit which would be about $20 today. Instead of being spoon fed information, we went to the library or figured it out for ourself. Last but not least, we spent a good deal of time outside the house exploring the world for ourself.
Yes, at times we would fail but you learn far more from failure than you do from success. This taught us that the world isn’t always kind but we have the ability and knowledge to make it better for ourself.
Today parents try to make it easy for their children which denies them the very abilities they need to survive in this world.
I am sure that many on this site can tell similar stories about their childhood. They can also confirm that had life been less difficult for them, they wouldn’t have grown up to be the person they are today.

Having read both statements, it is quite obvious that Willis’s statement is satire. Who the heck seriously talks about salting the ground where a building once stood.
On the other hand I see no reason at all to assume that there was any sarcasm in Tarling’s comment.

Beyond that, Willis’s comment was about destroying a building that had no people inside, while Tarling’s comment was about the deliberate killing of people for the sin of opposing Tarling.

If you can’t find any difference in those two statements, it could only be because you don’t want to.

There are two types of political characters.
On the one side are those who join a political party because they hope one day they may be able to gain power and influence society.
On the other side are the Liberal Democrats, their ambition is to never gain power and thus continue to complain about those that do.
The most recent foray into pseudo government via coalition by LibDems saw their count of MP drop from over fifty to just eight. The fall, was due to the voters seeing what a bunch of useless pointless characters the LibDems were. Not everyone considered the wipe out of the LibDems to be an issue though.
