Four Regional Climate Weeks in 2023 to Build Momentum for COP28
16 March 2023
UN Climate Change News, 16 March 2023 – Four Regional Climate Weeks will be held this year to build momentum ahead of COP28 and the conclusion of the first global stocktake, designed to chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement’s key goals.
“The global stocktake is a critical turning point when it comes to efforts to address climate change – it’s a moment to take a close look at the state of our planet and to chart a better course for the future,” said the Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change Simon Stiell. “We need regional stakeholders to identify what works for them, and to present plans and strategies at COP28 in Dubai which are regionally applicable. This will be a key role of the Regional Climate Weeks this year.”
The following Regional Climate Weeks are confirmed:
- Africa Climate Week (ACW 2023), Nairobi, 4-8 September. Hosted by the government of Kenya, this event will be organized in parallel with the African Climate Action Summit (4-6 September), also hosted by Kenya.
- Middle East and North Africa Climate Week (MENACW 2023), Riyadh, 9-12 October, and hosted by the government of Saudi Arabia.
- Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW 2023), Panama City, 23-27 October. Hosted by the government of Panama, the week will be organized back-to-back with the Latin American Ministerial Forum for Environment Ministers.
- Asia-Pacific Climate Week (APCW 2023) will also take place in the second half of 2023, with the venue and dates announced shortly.
Regional Climate Weeks bring together a diverse range of stakeholders for regional collaboration on climate change. Participants include representatives of governments, the private sector, development organizations, youth groups and civil society opening space. The events provide numerous opportunities to engage in solution-oriented dialogues, to build new partnerships and collaborate on climate action projects.
This year’s Regional Climate Weeks aim at clustering key events ahead of COP28 which have been mandated by governments but which are not part of the formal negotiating agenda.
All the Regional Climate Weeks will be delivered in close cooperation with global partners of UN Climate Change – the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank groups – as well as regional partners.
Information for event organizers and participants
Organizations wishing to propose to organize an event at one or several climate weeks will have the opportunity to do so when the UN Climate Change secretariat launches the call for expressions of interest in April.
Registration for participants to the regional climate weeks will also opened closer to the climate weeks, when further information about the programme and logistics will be made available at the Regional Climate Weeks website.

The big event, COP28, will be held in Dubai.
I hope you feel for your climate representatives at these negotiations. Poor things have to fly from luxury hotel to luxury hotel, stifling their distaste for fossil fuel powered air travel, so they can negotiate to bring the blessings of energy constrained austerity to all those lucky taxpayers who are funding this nonstop climate conference tour.
It looks like the French are about to serve up a heaping plate of Macron-en-flambe
‘Emperor’ Macron invited a no confidence vote with his pension power move today. He didn’t have the Assembly votes, so bypassed the Assembly. The horror of raising retirement age from 62 to 64, while the US is talking about raising SS retirement from 65 to 70.
The U.S. already has. In was born in 1962 and aren’t able to get partial SS benefits prior to 68 with full SS benefits at 70.
67 is the age in Germany since years, the option is to increase…
Currently 67 in the UK and due to rise to 68 by 2036
And don’t worry ! They will pay your retirement money but in worthless fiat currency that won’t buy very much the way they are printing it like there is no tomorrow.
Apologises it’s OT, but this is about a lot more than retirement age changes.
Emperor’s generally love their country, Macron is much more a dictator.
I have been to Riyadh and Panama City. The better hotels are pure luxury with INCREDIBLE food. So the climate scam junketeering continues in the run up to COP28—which will likely accomplish as much as COP27 did, exactly nothing.
They should be given Grilled Ants for appetizers with main courses of either Cricket Burgers or Locust Stew. Perhaps a helping of carob covered cockroaches for desert.
Maggot marmalade on toast made from cricket flour is to die for, I bet.
Well, the French-looking John Kerry got to posture a whole bunch.
I realize this is slightly off topic, but if you are truly interested in international conferences and the effect they have on the world, then do yourself a favor and watch the latest video Dr. John Campbell has produced about medical science. Then ask yourself if you see any similarities with the situation regarding international climate science.
Holy F@#k Fauchi and his mates are in the shit big time also go see Jo Nova’s blog 60 % think climate science is a religion
Let them have all the meetings they want but it is past time that the US stop funding this nonsense. The US needs to get out of the UN, it has out lived it’s purpose.
Everybody needs to get out of the UN, it has moved the goalposts.
Story tip (?)
Reset This! Dutch Elections See Tractor Protest Party Trounce Globalist Govt and EU Green Agenda
The upstart populist pro-farmer party FarmerCitizenMovement (BBB) shook the foundations of politics in the Netherlands overnight, securing a significant victory in Wednesday’s provincial elections on the back of growing resentment against the globalist government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte and his plans to introduce Great Reset-style environmental policies.
The BBB party leader, Caroline van der Plas, is evidently a straight talker: “People, what the fuck happened?” exclaimed the frank-talking, half-Irish leader of the BBB, Caroline van der Plas in a victory speech on Wednesday evening [..] Despite the trouncing in last night’s elections, the government’s minister for nature and nitrogen policy, Christianne van der Wal signaled on Thursday morning that the controversial nitrogen policy will continue to be on the agenda … In response, the BBB leader Van der Plas said that her comments were “complete bullshit”.
Please can we in other western “democracies” have some politicians like her … even just one???
Back in the 1960s and 70s when I was living in the Pacific Northwest, the John Birch society (and individual farmers/ranchers) had roadside billboards all over the rural areas. The main one was: “Get the U.S. out of the U.N.” At the time I thought it was a kooky message, never having thought much about the UN.
Today, however, after having observed the world for an additional 40+ years I vigorously support the idea. FJB, FU.N., and FLeftists. [I tried FUN but that was an obvious nonstarter.]
“Get the U.S. out of the U.N.”
In Los Angeles in the same years, signs on bus stop seat backs, with the added words, “Get the UN out of the US.”
You really couldn’t make it up. The arrogance is beyond belief.
One more climate meeting and we will have reached the private jet CO2 tipping point.
“Participants include representatives of governments, the private sector, development organizations, youth groups and civil society opening space.”
and, any climate change skeptics? oh, of course not- only the faithful
Given the geographic groupings the meetings will be used to refine demands for money. It is notable tht there is no regional meeting for Europe or North America. At least that means they won’t be planning to give money away.
Josh will get to re-purpose his cartoons again.
boondoggle (plural boondoggles)
Opponents consider this another billion-dollar government boondoggle.
Those Climate Change Alarmists really know how to party!
I must say, I could throw one hell of a good party, if someone else pays for it all. The Sky’s the limit!
Four times zero is still zero. So just as these COP delegates never accomplished anything in single conferences, they’ll have four chances to strike out at COP 28.
Conterences to discuss something which does not exist. OK, I’m happy with that!
I love the “stocktaking” since Paris! None? Oh, USA and UK have swooped.coal for gas. Well, nearly, anyway.
Talking of stocktaking, isn’t the objective to reduce atmospheric CO2? Look at Moana Loa and realise that it’s been a complete failure and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
Yes, the climate change alarmists are spinning their wheels trying to reduce CO2.
The Western Democracies bankrupt themselves trying to reduce CO2, meanwhile, China, India and Africa are increasing their output of CO2 and will continue to do so into the future, offsetting any reductions by the Western nations.
So it’s Game Over! The alarmists better hope the skeptics are right about CO2 not being the control knob of the Earth’s temperatures, because CO2 amounts will continue to increase no matter what the Western nations do.
CO2 Derangement Syndrome is the problem the Western nations have. They’ll figure it out when the Western nations are penniless, and the other nations are thriving and more CO2 is in the air and the weather is no worse than it has been in the past.
CO2 reduction is a huge waste of time and money and is injurious to the sanity of people who can’t think for themselves.
I’d like a campaign promise from all the presidential candidates. I’d like them to say, NO executive branch employee will travel to any climate change conference on taxpayer dollars, nor will they be allowed to represent the US government if they attend on their own dime.
Nor will the US fund any UN projects, pay any UN dues. The US will not supply a representative to the UN general assembly or the Security Council.
I think you all missed the part in the article that says “the delegates will be video conferencing from their homes to eliminate the need for fossil fueled transportation”.
Very nice to see that they are engaged in further polluting the Planet…
Climate tourism for the idiot elites is alive and well. The rest of us will be punished for expecting sustaining heat light and nutrition.
