Use Covid lessons to curb climate change, Lords tell government

Information campaigns like those used in the Covid-19 pandemic would help individuals act on climate change, a House of Lords report has said.
To meet climate goals, a third of cuts to UK emissions by 2035 must come from people changing their behaviour, it says.
It calls the government’s current approach “seriously inadequate”.
In response the government said it is fully committed to its legally binding net zero climate goals.

“People will have different lifestyles and make different choices about what changes they need to make, but we’re quite clear that people need to be helped to take this forward,” Baroness Kate Parminter, chair of the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee, which wrote the report, told BBC News.
The Covid-19 pandemic provided important lessons in how to communicate clearly, using science, to the public, she said.
“Covid was a crisis, the climate is a crisis. We can learn some very important messages around the communications and the scale of the problem,” she adds.

Baroness Parminter, the politician quoted by the BBC, is a Liberal Democrat. In my experience, in the South East of England at least, the Liberal Democrats present as a green, left wing party, a middle class alternative to self identified working class socialist parties.
Given pretty much everyone except China nowadays treats Covid like the flu, I strongly suspect the lesson people are learning from the Covid panic is not the lesson Baroness Kate Parminter wants people to learn.
What was that saying again? “Fool me once…”

Covid is the flu and there is no climate crisis.
What politicians in reality are promising but it is dressed up differently:
Vote for us or get us appointed and we will make you poorer for your own good.
Why are hard working voters such suckers?
We learned what inflation from the 70s/early 80s looks like and why a lot of Latin American countries and dictatorships love it so much. We learned what increases in Sovreign debt looks like without discussion or concern. We learned how quickly air travel transmits viruses from “imported frozen seafood” in China and other dead-end investigations.
Some time ago, I wrote to my representative in Parliament and asked her if she though that man-made carbon dioxide causes warming or climate change. I received a reply yesterday.
Her reply: I can give you the assurance you seek that as an ex energy minister and an ex Secretary of State for energy, I have studied very closely the case for man made climate change and I am persuaded that human activity is indeed the major cause of many of the climate related problems we are facing today.
This is someone who has her finger on the political pulse and the direction of travel the UK takes and who is persuaded it is a ‘major cause’.
When I do reply I will certainly ask her for example/s of some of the major causes of human activity that cause warming and also example/s of climate change.
Ask her about the lack of a tropospheric hotspot or the logarithmic absorption abilities of CO2 and wait for the blank look.

Climate is not in a crisis.
But policy choices by Western governments are causing an Energy crisis and a Food crisis – wherein the poor of those societies are deliberately being placed in jeopardy.
England and Germany will face the consequences of the Energy crisis this coming winter, meanwhile the Food crisis gathers momentum.
Like all Limp Dumps she tries to present herself as a member of the cuddly and safe middle ground. However, you can see from all the nasty rhetoric about forcing people to change their behaviour and lifestyles she’s just like all Greens – a dyed in the wool fascist.
Many years ago the Lords was seen as a check and balance to MPs policies, but these days they are viewed by most people as what they truly are: a bunch of out of touch and unelected old farts who wield far too much power.

I agree. But you are too generous. Out of touch old farts were bad enough. But at least the old Lords, ancient aristos, a good seasoning of generals, bishops etc. had usually some moral compass.
The present bunch of useless politicians who have been ‘kicked upstairs’, together with activists and toadies hand selected for their stupidity and malevolence are far worse.

Well, the fact is that the climate has been carrying on just fine, while it is the UK government hitting all the “tipping points”. It’s worse than we thought!! Life in England may never be the same!!!
All these politicians are calling for US you and I to change our behavior but that does not apply to them.
Just take some examples from the crowd in our New Zealand Parliament.
James Shaw our climate change minister and leader of the Green party took a plane load of hangers on to Glasgow to COP26 .
When asked why not use zoom and restrict emissions flying there and back he said we have to be there .
I ask you what was accomplished at COP26 except to encourage other political activists to destroy their countries economies?
With inflation ramping up around the world and costs soaring the average person will have to cut back on discretionary spending .Perhaps this is the aim of these green and left wing governments.
The voting public has to wake up to these destructive policies that are being touted as saving the world from overheating can only end in misery . .
There is no climate crisis but if these politicians get their way there will certainly be a CRISIS in most countries through lack of reliable energy and food supplies.

She is a fool. Why on earth would anyone hold the response to COVID up as a model for future action. The government response to COVID was and still is a disgrace. COVID was not a crisis, the government response to COVID was more than a crisis it was a disaster. COVID made you sick the government response brought healthy nations to their knees. This woman has no business in any position of responsibility. I wouldn’t allow her to take my trash out unattended.

Baroness Parminter is suffering from the Politician’s Fallacy, made famous in an episode of “Yes,Prime Minister”-
“We must do something,
This is something,
Therefore we must do this.”
Thus-
“Covid was a crisis,
Climate is a crisis,
Therefore we do for climate as we did for CoVid.”
I think logicians call it the fallacy of the undistributed middle!
No doubt the first ones to change their behavior to fight climate change will be members of the House of Lords. How many are driving electric cars, or utilizing public transit, or renouncing air travel? The irony is that these upper class members are among the last ones on the planet to adopt more basic lifestyles, so why should they expect the rest of us to do so? Mind you, no one listens to these types in the first place.
Behavioral Psychology is used by government (and globalist non-government) bodies to shape public opinion. This was widely used throughout the COVID panic and is also widely used for Climate Emergency messaging. Indeed, the very term Climate Emergency very likely came out of a Behavioral Insight Team (better known as a Nudge Unit). Of note, the head of the Nudge unit of the WHO (yep, they have their own) is Prof. Susan Michie, a former member of SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) who also just happens to be a long time committed member of the British Communist Party.
If you ever wonder why all the news spouts the same lines, and labels people with skeptical views “deniers”, etc, or why you are bombarded with ads featuring catch 2-5 word slogans imploring you to partake in some behavior (e.g. “Staying apart keeps us together”, “Your Ticket to Freedom” (that was in regards to the jab), etc). These are just some of the tools that are used by Nudge units to manipulate populations into doing what THEY want. They literally spell this out in their book: Nudge, by Cas Sunstein, go and read it if you want (actually a good idea as you will be better informed as to what to look out for). These people believe that they know better what is good for you, and they have absolutely no qualms in using psychological manipulation, particularly guilt and shame, to get you to do it.
