Climate Activists Glue Themselves to Historic Oil Paintings

Vandalising, risking damage to irreplaceable artworks, because none of us have listened to their spoiled tantrums.

Just Stop Oil Paintings: Climate Activists Glue Themselves to Art by Van Gogh, Turner

Climate extremists from the Just Stop Oil group have glued themselves to artworks by Vincent van Gogh and William Turner, to blackmail the government into halting fossil fuel projects.

“Sorry everybody, we don’t wanna be doing this, we’re here glued to this painting, this beautiful painting, because we’re terrified for our future,” explained one of the protesters, apparently male, in a video published on social media by TalkTV showing him and a comrade glued to van Gogh’s Peach Trees In Blossom in London’s Courtauld Gallery.

“We’re here for a group called Just Stop Oil, we expect to be arrested today,” he went on, not seemingly particularly perturbed by the prospect — perhaps justifiably, given the authorities’ habit of simply releasing climate extremist protesters disrupting national infrastructure much more critical to the country than a painting, without pursuing serious charges.

“We’re here because the UK government is pushing through 40 new fossil fuel projects, and with every single project they sign it’s like signing our death warrant,” the activist went on, heedless of the fuel and energy independence crisis which has spurred the typically green-obsessed Prime Minister Johnson to action.

“For 30 years we’ve been outside Parliament with our banners and our flags, and for 30 years nothing has been done,” he added, perhaps somewhat dubiously considering his adolescent appearance.

Video of the attack on art (h/t Breitbart);

This “for 30 years nothing has been done” is a common theme of climate extremists, but they really have been warning us for 30 years.

Like this 1989 gem of a climate warning from the United Nations, which gave us  “a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control” – a time window which expired in the year 2000.

Of course the counter argument to the green 30 year claim is 30 years of ridiculous apocalyptic climate warnings and 10 year deadlines, and nothing bad has happened.

After the publicity stunt they got in their SUVs and drove home and used fossil fuels.

Leave them there – they are a good exhibit.

Just remove any oil-based item from them. Almost certainly that will include their clothes, shoes and spectacles.

Extreme affluence combined with self-righteousness and nothing better to do with their time. Just wait until we get “Universal Basic Income” and the whole country will turn into Portland, where the bored self-righteous will only exist to make like miserable for those with better things to do.

I doubt that the glue bond between skin and the picture frame is very strong. Note how they are holding onto the frame.

In that case, staff should strip them bare, and reattach them by their…genitalia. And close up for the evening.

Nevertheless better safe than sorry. Cut the hand off so it’s easier to manipulate while carefully applying minimal solvent. All that volatile acetone going into the atmosphere! No excuse for that.

No, you are glued to the frame.

It seems to me that it could be calmly explained that for the next 24 hours they will be allowed to protest — no food, no water, no bathroom, no sitting, no sleeping. Make sure they have cellphones so that when they are ready to surrender to authorities they can call. Oh and close off the gallery so that they can protest alone. And when authorities get the call they can put it into triage — is this an emergency? No? Please call our non-emergency number. Non-emergency here. I see. You wish to surrender. Are you in danger of escaping? No? We’ll get to you at the end of the shift, if we don’t have more pressing matters at that time.

I’m wondering how they stop the oil in their hair. Obviously not from using shampoo every morning as the pictures show.

Sentence each of them to one year without any access to ANYTHING made either from, or with the help of any fossil fuel.
My guess is they wouldn’t last a week.

The protesters aren’t fully responsible. They’ve been indoctrinated over the years as a result of: profoundly incompetent media; low-quality education from K-12 and at universities; ignorant, gutless, virtue-signalling left-leaning politicians (such as our Prime Minstrel™ here in Canada); and more.

If people such as these kids really, really want to make a contribution towards saving the planet, I suggest setting up a “Make Me Part of the Solution” list in every city. Special equipment would be installed at the primary dwelling of everyone on the list, whereby their electricity would trip off whenever fossil fuels are being burned to keep the lights on.

I would suggest that they start their protest by not buying petroleum based glues, and not wearing petroleum based clothing. Also they should not use any products that contain petroleum, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant/antiperspirant, soap, plastics, phones, and the list goes on.

The use of petrochemical based glue to adhere yourself to a painting to protest petrochemicles is as stupid as it comes.

Why don’t they glue themselves to an SUV?
What does an old painting have to do with climate change?

My youngist son is ‘terrified’ about his future too. He should be! He is a computer engineer who lives in the Washington DC area. He thinks you can write a program to put food on the table and provide electricty for his computer.

I am a slide rule engineer who worked to put electricty on the grid. It was my honor to serve. Computer are great. It allowed to increase my productivitry by a factor of three. Computer allow each new core to be designed to produce three times as much electricty as with the same amout of uranium.

The opposition is ‘terrified’ of ppt bad sounding things is discharge water and radiation 6 orders of magnitude below back ground.

I would be less terrified except for covid experience. With the data available in the first month, I determined that is was no worse than an average cold a flu season.

My way of dealing with irrational fear is to do a calculation. Old people are dying. I am an old person and expect to die. What I was surprised to find is how many old people got covid and did not die.

Looked at the Associated Press article in the link above, and (for the life of me) I don’t see a date on it. Could it possibly be that the AP removed the date on the article to keep it from being an object of ridicule for climate realists?

Well, when I linked to it, I found the following first sentence: “A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.”

They also targeted paintings by William Turner, who was a Watercolourist.
So, they are equal opportunity art-attackers.
