Climate change activists with a group calling itself Tyre Extinguishers are celebrating their first ‘action’ in New York City – deflating the tires of 40 SUVs on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The movement, which originated in the United Kingdom, seeks to dissuade people from owning SUVs in urban areas, and switch instead to more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The SUVs they vandalized had leaflets let on the windshield, which stated: ‘Attention: Your gas guzzler kills’.

Last time WUWT covered these losers, we discovered their favourite covert deflation trick is leaving a hard lentil under the valve cap, to slowly deflate the tire by pressing gently on the valve. This potentially creates a window of time during which the SUV owner might not notice their vehicle has been sabotaged, which could in turn lead to a serious or fatal road accident, if the tire deflates suddenly while travelling on a motorway or busy road.
They say they always leave a note – but who reads all the junk fliers which get stuck to wind shields in a big city?
In my opinion these people are terrorists, and deserve to be treated as such. They are happy to put the lives of other people at risk to make a political point.
Please come to my neighborhood. Something will be deflated – just not what you think.

Try getting the defunded NYPD to go after anyone for anything short of murder, and do note that there are videos of recent murders that were circulating on the net and the NYPD did nothing.
The prosecutors and judges have just been letting everyone go. Why would any New York cop concern themselves with this incident?

Just about any Blue city in America is safe as can be for Tyre (or Tire) Extinguishers to act. It’s not like it’s a “mostly peaceful” demonstration involving rioting, burning, and looting… which is OK, BTW.
Arrest for this in NYC is laughable, and the thought of extradition is somewhere out there in a galaxy far, far away.

That said, commenters have mentioned a lot of places in America where it would be beyond damn foolish for Tyre Extinguishers to attempt to deflate tires. T.E. would demand extradition in those locales.
Well, if they really are British activists (and I am highly sceptical, believe me) then they would be sh!t out of luck – there is no extradition from the USA. The extradition treaty signed between USA and UK only covers extradidition TO the USA, there is no reciprocal arrangement – if a UK citizen commits a crime in the USA, they stay there. Yay you get to keep our retards and loonies!
Richard, sorry to be late getting back to you. There was a gazebo I just finished building yesterday, a deck I am rebuilding with composite decking, and a July 4th holiday… and I am the cook. I’m about a dozen articles behind here.
Anyhow, the last place I thought we could find definitive proof was in that leaflet on the windshield. No luck there. It was no doubt printed in the USA for placing on the damaged autos in the USA. It was the ‘Tire’ version, but the website was tyreextinguishers.com.
No hat tip to Americans joining in the movement in the interviews. Just a reference that there will be Americans joining in across the US.
It bothers me that the news reports and the interviews focused on the Brits and there was never a mention of ‘our American members’ joining in.

What I think is that these are delusionary revolutionaries trying to make their group seem much larger than it is and having strong, widespread, popular support. “We are everywhere, and many, many people are coming on board every day.”
For all I know, Tyre Extinguishers may just be griff and his 2 pals working out of his mum’s basement. I never underestimate the crazy and the funding of the True Believers.

Hydra!Tyre Extinguishers! We are everywhere!”From the news reports, which said it was the Brits, and the interviews which did not give any credit to Americans, I just don’t know.
What would be very interesting to see would be a Tyre Extinguishers action in 50 or 70 different cities around the world on the same day. I don’t think that has even happened in just two cities on the same day in the UK.

I drive a 40 year old landcruiser. I wonder how much CO2 it would have cost to scrap it after 10 years and produce a new one. I doubt that it’s possible to drive so many miles in 10 years to match that. Even in 15 years it would be difficult, if not impossible.
Give these vandals a good caning and hard labor to pay back the cost of repairs.

They are so stupid they don’t grasp the fact that a service vehicle most likely will have to come to repair or replace the tires, then a new tire will need to be produced for the replacement, then the damaged tire has to be disposed of, yep, the word stupid does apply.
Now that the US Supreme Court has voided NY’s restrictive concealed carry permit law there will be a lot more New Yorker who can protect their property and lives by exercising their constitutional rights.
These birds might not realize that Americans have not been gelded like Brits.

I think they’ve been coming over and doing that for years actually. It does make a bit of a change for it to be the other way round.
Well I guess our Subaru Crosstrek, which barely qualifies as an SUV due to its somewhat raised clearance, but is not a 4×4 since it has AWD is safe from these hoodlums. Same for our truck, which has 4WD, but being a truck isn’t an SUV. Woo-hoo! Plus we don’t live anywhere near NYC, or indeed any city.
