Major Survey Shocks: German Youth Rejecting Need For Radical Behavior Change To Fight ‘Climate Crisis’

Reposted from the NoTricksZone

By P Gosselin on 12. March 2021

Frustrated by lockdowns and restrictions, Germany’s youth may be showing signs of rebellion as a comprehensive European Investment Bank generational survey shows “climate protection aspect does not seem to have the high priority among young people.”

Youth-led movement a myth…

Fading climate crisis: Germany’s younger generation may be rejecting calls to austerity, turning their backs on climate activists, major survey finds. Image cropped here.

Journalists Daniel Wetzel and Karsten Seibel at German online flagship daily Die Welt here report on today’s German youth and how they in fact do not view the climate issue at all like Fridays for Future activists Greta Thunberg (Sweden) and Luisa Neubauer.

The media and activists like giving the impression that the younger generation of Germans today are acutely concerned about climate and that the older generation is indifferent about it.

In fact the older generation  is considered by some as being so irresponsible that “there are now calls in the commentary columns of daily newspapers such as the ‘TAZ’ to take away the right to vote from ‘old people’ and let children vote instead,” Wetzel and Seibel write.

Others have even suggested killing the old generation with Corona if they don’t clean up their climate act.

German youth not willing to forego amenities

But the results of the major climate survey of the European Investment Bank (EIB) don’t suggest this sort of generational difference. For example when it comes to products with the highest greenhouse gas emissions, such as short-haul domestic flights, 47 percent of respondents over 65 could imagine an emissions ban from such products, but only 27 percent of 15- to 29-year-olds could.

Obviously today’s German youth are not being swayed by Greta Thunberg’s doomsday prophecies.

Climate protection low priority

Wetzel and Seibel observe that “the climate protection aspect does not seem to have the high priority among young people that the TV pictures of demonstrating ‘Fridays for Future’ children suggest”.

Only 26% say we should use less fossil fuels!

Shockingly, “Only 26 percent of young people believe that we should use less fossil energy, primarily for climate protection reasons,” the two Die Welt journalists reveal. “Young people up to the age of 29 are not so keen on being banned from speeding on the motorway either: Only 12 percent would agree to a speed limit – in the over-65 age group, the figure is 26 percent.”

Another striking result: “Only 20 percent of Germans under age 30 are in favor of subsidizing electric cars” and a puny “22 percent in this age group would give priority to technology in climate protection.”

This compares to about 35% in China and the USA.

Only 15% prepared to “radically change behavior”

Moreover only 15 percent of Germany’s youth were prepared to radically change their personal behavior to fit in with the Paris climate goals,” write Wetzel and Seibert. 42%, however, do agree that behavioral change is necessary.

The European Investment Bank survey sampled 30,000 people in 30 countries in the fall of 2020.

Well, young Germans are already living in a society which is very green and sustainable and renewable… they have excellent public transport, cycling is popular, they have efficient electrical devices and over half their energy is from renewables, they recycle a huge amount… what they think of as normal is vastly greener than the USA.

CO2 is necessary for a greener planet. Germany contributes a minor amount of CO2 if CO2 was a problem. Germany is wasting a huge amount of money. Germany’s biggest problem is Merkel.

Griff
So Germany are already in the green promised land? Well in the real world, German CO2 emissions are rising because of their rejection of nuclear (which exposes as a total sham the entire CO2 narrative). American CO2 emissions meanwhile are falling because of fracked gas.

The green opposition to nuclear and to fracked gas, both of which reduce CO2, tell you everything you need to know about the movement and its followers. The CO2 narrative is a sham and they know it. I wouldn’t buy a used car from any of them, even an electric one.

Griffy-poo:

I suggest that your major malfunction at this blog is that you’ve been told what to think instead of learning how to think and to think for yourself. You have allowed others to do your thinking for you, and you have been handed climate alarmist and renewable energy narratives that you have embraced without question.

When you let others do your thinking for you, it then becomes a matter of selectively cherry-picking what evidence is to be accepted and what is rejected as confirmation for and in support of the narrative you have been handed to believe. Lying and making things up also serves to support the narrative well when you need people to believe.

The alarmists cherry-pick their evidence in support of the alarmist narrative as you do, and you all ignore evidence that refutes it. Such behavior represents the abandonment of the ability to critically analyze and scrutinize any belief system that is proposed to the public. Proper critical analysis requires looking at ALL OF THE EVIDENCE, not cherry-picking your evidence. If the alarmists understand that there are serious problems with their narrative, then it is nothing but a propaganda and indoctrination campaign. Think Orwell’s Nineteen-Eighty-Four.

Griffy-poo, when you understand what I’m telling you here, you might find that you have far fewer problems with the majority of people at this blog. Unfortunately, I am not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

I see that griff is still trying to push the lie that getting 40% of your energy from renewables for 5 minutes, one time a year is the same thing as getting more than half of all your energy from renewables.
As to the rest, he actually believes that people adapting to ridiculous tax levels is the same thing as people approving those ridiculous tax levels.

Most people, especially most young people have little experience with weather. If the last time a major storm hit was 20 years ago, they either weren’t alive to experience it, or have forgotten it.
Therefore when the media tells them the storm they just experience was the worst storm EVAH, they believe it.

The mainstream media has brought this upon themselves. You can only cry wolf so much before people begin to disbelieve your information. Promoting activism and not work only affects those who either don’t care or don’t have to support themselves because parents and government does it. The harsh old world will always educate those who won’t learn from history and from their elders.

Media folks, and I include reporters, Hollywood types, and politicians, always act like they know everything about everything, when in reality they probably have no science education in their background at all. I hope sooner or later people wise up and ask themselves “How are they so knowledgeable about everything?”

It could be just the natural rebellion of kids against their parents.
.
.
Then there’s grandma and grandpa who don’t want green, and in many or most cases, see “Climate Change” as just weather and nothing has happened that they haven’t seen before, or worse, and the sea is still where it was when they were kids.
.
.
And the kids have all the cool toys which their parent’s generation wants to take away because “Climate Change”. They see that as nuts, particularly when gramps has told stories about weather that was worse back in their day.
.
.
So, like we did way back when with rock ‘n roll music, the kids are going to rebel. It’s always been that way and it’s worse this time because the parents are talking about taking away the kids’ tech toys. “No way!” sez they.

When was this survey done? It is hard to be concerned with CAGW when the current propaganda is if you have fun with other people you will kill grandma. You now have children with severe emotional stress because they cannot be with their friends, and some thoroughly indoctrinated to believe that even wanting to be with friends is going to kill someone. I am sure the results will be much different once people decide they have had enough of the COVID-19 lies.

I don’t think that the news media realizes how shallow support for reducing carbon dioxide emissions is. People give it lip service, parrot the right words, and maybe even have a superficial uninformed opinion. But they aren’t willing to make any deep personal sacrifices.

I live in one of the most radically leftist congressional districts in the United States. One of the cities in my district, Evanston, Illinois is even going to begin paying reparations to its black residents. That is despite the reality that in its entire history there probably was never even a single slave in Evanston. Yet despite all the virtue signaling I can’t help but noticing that about half the cars on the streets and in the local parking lots are gas guzzling SUV’s. It’s one thing to virtue signal by saying someone else should reduce emissions and it quite a different thing for these hypocrites to trade in their SUV’s and drive small shoebox cars.

People are very reluctant to speak out against what they believe to be the popular culture.
They are being told over and over again how everybody is willing to do what it takes to save the planet. As a result they come to believe that they will be ostracized by society if they let their true feelings be known. So the adopt a green shell that they use whenever they are outside, or talking with strangers. But their true feelings remain.

This subject was being discussed this morning on Fox News, and it was an educator who was saying that the leftwing ideology/woke culture was alive and well in U.S. schools (of all graes) but he said there were many students would did not buy into the ideology but would not challenge it publicly, and some would even parrot the ideology while not believing a word of it, in order not to become the focus of woke rage.

This was in regard to high school students, and the professor was asked if the same thing was going on in the colleges and he said yes it was.

There may be a lot of students out there who are not True Believers in the causes of the Left, and they may just be remaining silent for practical reasons.
