If you Thought Climate Grief was Strange, Meet the Climate Grief Therapists

Anxiety solution and freedom from fear and escape from tortured thinking and depression concept as a group of tangled barbwire or barbed wire fence shaped as a human head breaking free as a metaphor for psychological or psychiatric icon.

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

If someone is no longer able to function due to their “pre-traumatic” climate grief, a plethora of therapists are offering therapies ranging from “The Great Turning,” a societal transformation from an industrial, growth, and consumer-based society to a more equitable and sustainable one, to collapse-transcendence (fostering psycho-social-spiritual-cultural shifts to accept and live through collapse with some composure and stability).

Group Interventions for Climate Change Distress

December 11, 2020
Beth Mark, MD , Janet Lewis, MD

From disasters and social disruptions to existential concerns, climate distress groups may not only provide much-needed support to patients but may also help psychiatry’s public health responses.

The climate crisis presents unique and complex challenges to the mental health and wellness of individuals and communities. The need for interventions at a global scale increasingly leads mental health providers to look toward large group interventions. This article outlines a number of the more popular group approaches. It informs psychiatrists about the climate distress groups that our patients may access and advances our understanding of these groups’ methods, which may help psychiatry’s own public health response.

The Work That Reconnects (TWTR) is an approach developed by Joanna Macy, PhD, and is described as a “transformative learning process.”9 TWTR incorporates aspects of deep ecology, systems theory, eco-psychology, Buddhism, and activism. … Instead of turning away from the problem, group members reframe and honor their feelings, and then develop fresh perspectives intended to bring about “The Great Turning,” a societal transformation from an industrial, growth, and consumer-based society to a more equitable and sustainable one.

The Deep Adaptation Forum was developed by Jem Bendell, PhD, after the publication of his paper “Deep Adaptation: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy,”12 which went viral. Deep Adaptation (DA) positions itself outside of mainstream work on climate adaptation in that it assumes inevitable societal breakdown and collapse due to climate change and intentionally challenges the idea that hope should be part of climate change adaptation.

DA seeks to develop so-called collapse-readiness (ie, creating an equitable system for distribution of life essentials such as food, water, energy, and health care) and collapse-transcendence(fostering psycho-social-spiritual-cultural shifts to accept and live through collapse with some composure and stability).

No doubt climate grief suffers will achieve a happier, more adjusted mental state after being offered a choice between accepting the end of the world with a smile, or ditching capitalism and embracing a simple communal sharing mentality.

Interestingly many group leaders advocating rejection of consumerism and acceptance of the coming climate catastrophe appear to accept payment for the services they provide. No doubt the act of handing over money helps propel the healing transformation from consumerist obsessed climate guilt to a simpler more positive mental outlook which involves owning less stuff.

Good grief! This “Climate Emergency” scam is really getting out of hand. The lunacy. And, of course, with every scam, there are those that seek to profit from it – “snake oil”. In this case it’s apparently some psychiatrists.

When I see people driving alone in their cars with a COVID mask on, I know they also must be the same ones soiling their bedsheets over climate grief. And I see plenty of people wearing masks alone in their cars.
So hey if you’re starving psychotherapist, why not capitalize on that widespread ignorance?

I am occasionally one of those people you see… LOL

I forget I am wearing it! Going from one place to another in short hops. I also forget to put it on and have to return to my truck to get it. So go easy on us old folks!

Robert (and Steve). I understand your justification, the way I understand, say, FaceTwatGram videos of gang rape. By looking at them, you condone them. If you were not subservient to the wishes of the Bolshevik scamsters, you would detest every second that nappy hangs on your face. There is no forgetting about displaying a symbol of oppression on your own face.
So you guys do not see the facenappy as a symbol of oppression? Okay by me, just take note, you are setting an example to the children, and your example of stupid servitude sucks. Because of your servile compliance, the disciples of Baal Gates see opportunity to victimise those who try to live like free humans in a system run by psychotic mafias teaching our children they are unwanted parasites on Baal’s earth.
Old folks should know better!

Well, that’s fine, paranoid guy, but I’ve found that they reduce the dust flow from the cat boxes when I clean them and that means I don’t have to inhale cat box dust and get my lungs contaminated with it. Silicosis is not a joke. People contracted it during the Dust Bowl years and there is no cure for it.

But that’s one of several reasons I wear one at all, other than not having the paranoids screaming bloody murder at me when I go to the grocery store. Another good reason is that spray painting stupid things like screen frames can get paint particles into your breathing apparatus, so a mask is a good idea.

Any questions?

I’ve been wearing them for years while bush hogging broom straw and sawing treated lumber. Problem arises when need to wear safety glasses and a mask as the mask causes the glasses to fog. So I’d rather sniff a little dust when using the chain saw rather than be blind!

Wipe some spit on the inside of the safety glasses.

Or get some “anti-fog” from your local motorbike shop.

I say, that if people really want to feel “grief” about”climate”

Just let them go for it. 🙂

Talk about making a virtual cross for their own little minds to carry !

And if that virtual cross becomes ALL TOO MUCH for their feeble minds to endure…..

It’s no good just pointing out the lunacy of these people, you have to trace the source and point out where it comes from:

Joanna Macy, PhD – most renowned for her book Coming Back to Life: Practices to Reconnect Our Lives, Our World and the Great Turning initiative…

David C. Korten (born 1937) is an American author, former professor of the Harvard Business School, Korten’s 2006 book The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community…

Korten is co-founder and board chair of the Positive Futures Network, which publishes the quarterly YES! Magazine. He is also a founding board member, emeritus, of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, a former associate of the International Forum on Globalization, and a member of the Club of Rome…BOOM!

I would point at the Climategate Charlatans and their Spawn as the source of the problem.

They are the ones that lied to all of us by using their computers to distort the historical temperature records to make it appear that the Earth’s temperatures are at the highest point in human history.

Nothing could be further from the truth, and the only “evidence” for this claim of unprecedented global warmth is from the distorted temperature record.

Written Regional surface temperature charts from around the world disagree with the claim that the Earth is experiencing the warmest temperatures in human history. According to written records, it is no warmer today than it was in the Early Twentieth Century, which means we are not experiencing unprecedented warming, which means CO2 is a minor player in the Earth’s atmosphere and is not the control knob for temperatures.

Lay that on your patients, Doctors. And on yourselves. CO2 is not a problem.

Not digging deep enough Tom. The club of Rome is the horse, the Climategate Charlatans are just part of the cart.

Professor Schneider was among the earliest and most vocal proponents of man-made global warming and a lead author of many IPCC reports. He is a member of the Club of Rome.

“We’ve got to ride this global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic and environmental policy.”

“In searching for a common enemy against whom we can unite, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill. In their totality and their interactions these phenomena do constitute a common threat which must be confronted by everyone together.” (The First Global Revolution – A Report by the Council of the Club of Rome. President Emeritus of the Club of Rome Alexander King and Secretary General Bertrand Schneider p.75)

Which should of course have read From wholly imaginary existential concerns, climate distress groups may not only provide much-needed support to each other’s delusions, but may also help psychiatry come up with ever more insane ideas.

The indoctrination has clearly worked. Everybody’s gone mental now.

Therapy should help people deal with their fears. Especially irrational fears. That ain’t happening.

So imagine if one of these therapists had a patient come to them and share their dread that they would turn into a werewolf upon the next full moon….. Instead of trying to help the person get beyond their delusion, the therapist would probably just tell them to go home and have a family member chain them up during the full moon! It is quite sad that today psychiatry and psychology do more reinforcing of delusions then they do of trying to convince patients that such ideas are indeed delusions and are not true. It’s a wonder that anorexia hasn’t been removed from the list of mental illnesses….

The Left creates a neurotic society.

December 14, 2020 10:24 pm

Remember several years ago, as the Dreaded Pause lengthened to almost two decades, a number of climate scientists came down with what was known as the Climate Blues. It ended the careers of
a numberof them. The climate therapists invariably were simply enablers and offered no relief on what is the best known psychological disorder of all -depression arising from denial.

The patients rationalized that it was because all their work showed the terrible future we were headed for and no one was listening to them. Heck I was worried because most actually were listening to them! No, it was their own niggling doubts about CAGW that the mind was trying to get them to consider. Yeah, its tough after having been sold the goods in grade school followed by a dozen years in university and another dozen working on the stuff to dare to contemplate that they had wasted over half their working lives on a non issue.

Today, it’s the millions of unfortunate non scientist suffers who believe in all that stuff are ill. They are not even getting the benefit of doubts. This hysteria of a huge percentage of the population is perhaps the most terrible thing ever done to society across the world and none of the most culpable of these billionaire elite ideologues are going to pay for this crime. There is no professional help for these patients, certainly not from today’s useless deluded psychotherapists.

“This hysteria of a huge percentage of the population is perhaps the most terrible thing ever done to society across the world”

I believe so, too.

And it’s all based on something with no scientific foundation: That CO2 is the control knob of the Earth’s temperature, but this assertion has never been established as fact, so the people who are worrying themselves over Human-caused Climate Change are suffering from delusions put on them by the Elites and the Elite News Media. People ought to be suing them for damages.
