Sen. Bernie Sanders suggested at Wednesday’s Democratic debate that he would consider prosecuting oil companies for supposedly contributing to climate change.
“What we have to do is tell the fossil fuel industry that their short-term profits are not more important than the future of this planet,” the Vermont senator said in response to a back and forth with billionaire Tom Steyer.
Sanders added: “The fossil fuel industry is probably criminally liable, because they have lied and lied and lied when they had the evidence that their carbon products were destroying the planet.”

I suggest we start prosecuting socialists for all of the people killed by socialism. There, fixed it for you.

Right Bernie…and I’m going to prosecute my firewood delivery guy for my fireplace’s smoke…
Don’t be too hard on Bernie: the unquestioning MO of journalists is not so much complacency as a downright mockery of logic. They deserve the greatest contempt and vilification.
Slippery sloop indeed!
In the nuclear industry making a material false statement is criminal.
Years ago I was watching a Senate oversight hearing of the NRC. A factual presentation was made by the NRC. This was followed by a Bernie rant taking up most of the hearing.
Years before that I was running a test at a nuke plant. The senior resident inspector informed me that he was going to write a notice of violation at 4 am.. I advised him that making a material false statement laws applied to the NRC too. Since a NOV becomes part of the Federal Register he may want to word it very carefully.
I reminded him that I was also a navy trained nuclear officer and very good at my job. He decided not to write the NOV when I said that I would document his material false statement as a US citizen who had witnessed a felony. The paper and TV station would love.
The next thing to happen was being told behind close doors that I could not speak to the NRC that way. I told him I wanted in writing from him and the NRC inspector exactly how I should speak to the NRC and why I should not feel intimidated about discussing safety concerns.
My point is not simple. Being truthful and accurate without intent to mislead requires careful thought. Accusing people of criminal behavior and prosecution also requires evidence.
Slippery sloops. Dangerous in wet weather.
Another old guy who see’s the exit ramp looming, and wants to have influence from off the planet ?
Lets be clear here, in terms of a race, the 2020 election has barely made its first half lap of many to come, and Bernie has already had a heart attack. Even given the sort of taxpayer funded healthcare that has wrought apparent miracles in the case of Bader Ginsberg, one would have to suppose that voters will think Bernie’s health aint going to be up to the job, assuming he got the nomination. But whilst Bernie himself must be aware of these salient facts, he still stands up to spout Marxist fantasy, and more worryingly gets whoops and hollers of approval from the audience.
Surveying the incredible runners for the Democrat nomination, the only reasonable conclusion to reach is that the party is now nothing more than a lobby group for a few metro areas that seem to share much with the fabled cities of Sodem and Gomorrah. 🙂
Will Bernie Sanders do so out of his own pocket or will he expect tax-payers to fork out millions in legal costs? (This is not a trick question as most reading this know the answer!)
Being unaware that CO2 is not a pollutant and is required for all life on earth is science ignorance.
Failure to discover that CO2 has no significant effect on climate but water vapor does is science incompetence.

Just marxists trying to steal someone else’s money. Money of others are like a drug to marxists – cannot resist it…
There is a railway strike going on in Canada. As a result, the entire province of Quebec (which has been fighting pipelines tooth and nail) is about to run out of propane. The province is four days from having to shut down hospitals, nursing homes, farming operations and much more. Lives and the economy both on the brink.
The government will no doubt step in and legislate the railway back to work. When energy supplies get cut off and people face the reality of not having them… suddenly forcing striking workers to deliver energy supplies is required, global warming be d*mned. That’s why you’re going to lose the argument Bernie. Your alternative is what Quebec is facing right now.

Ex Post Facto laws are explicitly forbidden by the constitution. Not that any Democrat ever cared about that document.
I hope he includes The Sun as a criminal co-conspirator. Or Helios, Ra, Apollo, Utu, Yan Di, Sol or whatever name you want to give it.
Barmy Sanders has flipped his Marxist lid.
The whole thing ideological-bait, the idea is to get you using their words, their terms, their logic, and to discuss their plans of action. And it worked beautifully.
The proper response is to laugh at the half-wit pretending to have ‘answers’ to imaginary ‘problems’.
If the burning of fossil fuels is bad than it is those that make use of goods and services that make use of fossil fuels that is the cause of the problem. After all it is their money that has kept the fossil fuels companies in business. Bernie should sue everyone who has made use of goods and services that has involved the use of fossil fuels. Bernie must include himself in the list of people he is going to sue.
What Bernie Sanders is pushing for in the US is exactly the same as the communist party(labour) in the UK. They want to take all the companies back into government ownership so the people of the UK can go back to waiting 6 months to get a telephone. And having 4 day working weeks imposed due to strikes at power plants as there were in the 70. That was a time when there was very little gas available in the UK and believe me it was bloody cold at night with ice on the inside of the windows. We did eventually get a parrafin heater for the upstairs rooms of the house but then ran the risk of it being knocked over and seting the house ablaze.
Happy times? not on your life.
Un-American, Socialist/Communist Bernie, who celebrated his honeymoon having breakfast, in his pajamas, with about 20 Russians in the USSR, is totally off his rocker regarding fossil fuels.
He will be 80 years old, if sworn in as President, with a history of heart problems and a heart attack.
The US deserves much better.
Look out the window: Often there is NO WIND and NO SUN in New England
The RE folks are pure wackos.
They know nothing about energy systems
They inanely mouth anything that sounds good.
They irresponsibly befuddle lay people for self-serving purposes.
There is no way the world could support 10 billion people without fossil fuels by 2050.
Despite the growth of wind and solar, etc., the world’s PRIMARY energy has remained about 78% to 80% from fossil fuels for the past 45 YEARS.
The developing countries have little reason to meaningfully move away from fossil, because they need low cost energy and electricity to develop their inefficient economies.
COP21 promised these countries tens of $billions EACH YEAR, but all fell flat, because Obama never could get approval of his excessive Paris promises from Congress.
That money was to come out of a $100 billion/year SLUSH FUND, ADMINISTERED BY THE UN!!!!
COP 21 was designed by Europe to be a bad deal for the US.
Most folks did not understand that at that time, and many of them still do not, primarily because they are not curious, or prefer to believe otherwise.
Europe has no interest to give the US ANY advantage in international trade, and that includes climate change.
Europe wants to burden the US as much as possible with climate expenses, the main reason they are pushing EXPENSIVE Offshore Wind, because THEY have all the infrastructures and expertise.
COP21 was giving China and India $billions/y, PLUS a free pass regarding CO2 reduction, which they did not have to do until decades later, just to get them to sign the COP21 accords.
When US money disappeared because the US wisely withdrew from COP21, there was panic. Who was going to pay? Obama had foolishly agreed the US would pay.
NOTE: The same panic occurred when the UK announced Brexit. Who will pay the very sizable UK contribution to the Brussels EU budgets.
Bernie needs to be deprived of all fossil fuels for the rest of what would be a very short life.
what I see as a FAR bigger problem is that ALL the dems speaking out in panic mode and everyone listening and believing this are then going to become even larger and more stupid advocates for protest and ongoing discord when Trumps re elected or some other of his party is.
if the last yrs have been bad, whats coming is going to be so much worse.
I worry for my friends there
I look forward to seeing proof of this. Just like Mann in a Canadian court….
I’d like to point out that, with the current world population and fuel consumption rate, it is very possible that the only thing stopping another Little Ice Age IS the fact that we are using carbon-based fuels instead of so-called ‘clean’ electricity.
More and more, I’m beginning to believe that the unspoken goal is not keeping the atmosphere clean (which it is, anyway, depending on where you are) but rather, destroying everything developed in the last 150 years, as other people have indicated.
While you can say ‘well, the wealthy will be up above it all, rattling around in jets and yachts’, just tell me who is going to do maintenance, repairs and upgrades on those machines if we’re all gone, and who is going to provide food for the wealthy morons to eat? Never mind construct their dwellings, clean for them, all the rest of that crap they expect to have handed to them. It’s a complicated world, and the majority of them can’t even do laundry, make their own beds, or mow their lawns. So who is going to do that for them? Not me, that’s for damned sure.
Bernie is too stupid to come up with these ideas on his own. He picked it up from someone else, probably AOC, the birdbrained babbler from New York. And his lawsuit effort isn’t a freebie. He’d lose and the oil companies make him pay for it, all fees and expenses.
Just like Stalin. This deranged communist wants to do away with anyone that disagrees with his religious beliefs (CAGW). Bloody scary how history threatens to repeat itself.
Would the trials be held in Salem, Massachusetts?
