It’s refreshing to see a BBC presenter challenging climate claims, because it doesn’t happen very often these days. But Extinction Rebellion’s outrageous claim that a few feet of sea level rise will lead to billions of deaths deserves ridicule, even from people who think climate change is a problem.
I would love to follow her around and reminder her every time she uses fossil fuels. She is a flaming hypocrite.
A pity Neil didn’t point out that her hero Jim Hansen acknowledges getting energy from Ruinables is useless and that many more nuclear reactors are needed. (If you are daft enough to think CO2 is a problem.)
I wonder what this gormless woman would think about that?
Did I mishear or did she actually use Mickey Mann in support of “Exhausting Revulsion’s” demand of zero emissions” by 2025″?
I know nothing about Andrew Neil (I’m not Brit) but it sounded to me like he’s all in on CAGW but these nuts have gone too far?

Sounds like he is a skilled “Devil’s Advocate” to whoever he interviews.
I have no idea where he stands personally on AGW, but as a BBC employee he has to “toe the company line”.. Which is a shame, because he has no qualms about putting even the most powerful politicians in their place.
I think he’s quite savvy in this interview, he wants to keep his job, for now at least.
He may or may not accept the IPCC figures he quoted (which we know can be pulled apart like warm bread), but gently beats Zion Lights (great stage name BTW) with the IPCC stick, to demonstrate just how far out of kilter XR claims are from anything approaching reality.
XR are a threat to the comfy mainstream CAGW meme precisely because both their tactics and claims are patently absurd and counterproductive. Keep it up, you clowns!

Eco terrorism is briefed as a very tangible threat. Quite a lot of airline dependent things would happen. Even the slightest attempt will trigger a set of actions including but not limited to this common core:
-Declaration of Level 2 potentially escalating to Level 4 threat.
-Mandatory emergency landing to the quickest suitable location, yes, even on short hauls.
-Immediate handling of the resulting situation by local authorities, might include evacuation.
-A complete legal actions pack including fuel costs.
In other words, don’t even try !
The problem with all organised scams is the lack of punishment for perpetrating it. These nutcases get no punishment for spreading wildly inaccurate stories, they are not punished for disrupting everyday life.
Andrew Neil is on the few remaining journalists at the BBC. The vast majority who work there are ignorant yes-folks who could not interrogate evidence to save their lives.
They even had an ER spokesman on Question Time tonight. No Nigel Farage, but you can have an ER nutcase.
The BBC is funded by taxpayers yet tells taxpayers what they have to believe.
They need a severe shock to their very core, an existential threat demanding the implementation of basic standards of journalism.

On Question Time , the leader of XR Rupert Read mentioned that he worked at the University of East Anglia. I’m sure I’ve heard of that establishment before.
Everybody notice the pendant the young lady is wearing in the video? It seems to be the official ER symbol or trademark. It can be described as an hourglass in a circle. I have seen this symbol in other contexts recently. I took it then that this symbol has some very dark mystical or metaphysical meaning attached to it, similar to the pentagram.
Anybody have any ideas or comments on the symbolism of this “hourglass in a circle”?
Perhaps a quick history on where this has been seen or used before?

You are so right.
The IPCC does have some interesting information. For example,
on page 1010 of the IPCC’s WG1AR5, referring to the difference between models and the real world shown in Figure 11.25, it says “Possible reasons why the real world might depart from this range include”… “the possibility that model sensitivity to anthropogenic forcing may differ from that of the real world”
They are saying the models and the real world may have different sensitivities.
I doubt Zion is aware of what this means.
To be fair, I remain unconvinced that the IPCC actually understands what it is saying on sensitivity.
I used to quote the IPCC and link to a reference when I commented on the Guardian.
So they banned me repeatedly. On appeal I was always re-instated (as heresy is not an official misdemeanour by the Guardian rules).
But I have up commenting as the comments were always deleted with no sign they had even existed and thus I was left looking like an idiot with no answer to the crazies.
These are more or less the same people who gave us something called “Occupy” a few years ago. Where’s that movement now? I submit that the same fate awaits ER. The proletariat are not yet ready to be liberated.

This is war of words. Rebellions are supporters of the ruling elite. I would call Nigel Farage a rebellion, not the young on the streets. Extinction is 0,5 C rise in temperature and millimeters of sea level rise.
Solution is austerity measures and increased costs for the sheeple so that more money can be given to the ruling class. Existential threat is given as justification for subsidies, wealth transfers, regulations, entitlements that end up to pockets of the ruling class.
This is also a obedience school. The sacrifice is at first small like plastic bags and additions to electricity bill. When people obey, more is coming. Just look at Eastern Europe before EU, Venezuela.

I watched this interview live. I try and watch Andrew Neil whenever I can. At the end of this interview I was frustrated that he didn’t have an hour to grill her. I hope she accepts his invitation to come back and do another. I doubt she will.
