Psychiatrist on CNN: Trump May Be Responsible for Millions of More Deaths Than Hitler, Stalin, Mao
Sunday on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” psychiatrist Dr. Allen Frances said President Donald Trump “may be responsible for many more million deaths” than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.
…
He added, “Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were. He needs to be contained but he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person. It’s crazy for us to be destroying the climate our children will live in.
…
I agree that I should have interrupted after that line. I wish I had heard him say it, but I was distracted by tech difficulties (that's why the show open didn't look the way it normally does, I had two computers at the table, etc). Not hearing the comment is my fault.
— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) August 25, 2019…
Dr. Frances goes on to say that it is counterproductive to discuss Trump’s mental state in psychological terms, but he pulls no punches suggesting Trump’s policies are crazy.
I used to wonder if some people were attracted to psychology courses because they wanted to find solutions to their own problems.
I no longer believe this to be the case; but it is way past time the handful of psychology professionals, who in my opinion flout their own ethical guidelines by offering wild public opinions about the mental state of people whose policies they dislike, took a long hard look in the mirror.

…Doctor, heal thyself…..!
LOL
Unlike other, psychology degrees are not earned by students but sold by universities in exchange of tuition and campus fees.
More proof that psychiatry is not a science.. It isn’t medicine either.
I would actually like to stand up for the true proffesional people in this field. I needed and was helped tremendously by a psychiartrist. I am now a much stonger person than I have ever been with enough sceptisism to think that this might have been and honorary degree/post and this man knows nothing at all.
Psychiatrist heal thyself.
Pure projection! Media, democrats and a growing number of globalist republicans are eco-fascists. And if they’re not exposed while President Trump is in Office, prophecy will come to pass. It’s staring us in the face as Science: Carbon is 6 protons, 6 neutrons, 6 electrons; the human body is mostly carbon – the ‘number of man’; and cash will be replaced with a carbon chip in the hand. And only the truth shall make us free.
Before Climategate slowed the agenda….

Carbon Chastity
“Only Monday, a British parliamentary committee proposed that every citizen be required to carry a carbon card that must be presented, under penalty of law, when buying gasoline, taking an airplane or using electricity. The card contains your yearly carbon ration to be drawn down with every purchase, every trip, every swipe. There’s no greater social power than the power to ration. And, other than rationing food, there is no greater instrument of social control than rationing energy, the currency of just about everything one does and uses in an advanced society.” – Charles Krauthammer, May 2008
Out of the 10s of millions that Trump has killed because climate change, is there any with names and addresses so that we can check that claim? I wonder if Snopes and Politifact are on the case?
Sky King: This is just wishful thinking for D’s, if there were that many dead then that’d be 10’s of millions of D votes in 2020.
This doctor of Psychiatry shows how much “science” can accomplish when it decides observation (this guy never met the “patient” he diagnosed) can go out the window with replication. I’m no scientist, but I know what those words mean.
The leftist Climate Alarmists are already killing millions every year by blocking World Bank development loans to 3rd world countries for energy plant construction (and other anti-development restrictions, particularly in agricultural chemicals and practices).
Meanwhile, Climate related deaths are at historically low levels and still falling fast. And extreme weather events are not getting worse and sea levels are not accelerating. “Climatewise”, this is historically the best of times. Nothing like the Little Ice Age. Nothing like the 1930’s when the world was probably much warmer (don’t know for sure world wide for extreme lack of temperature data, but America and Europe certainly went through hell back then). Nothing like the 60’s and 70’s with more severe winters. Who knows what the optimum temperature is? But the optimum is probably right about where it is now. These may actually be THE BEST OF TIMES climatologically, but you’d never know that from the fake news from the lying propaganda press and the exaggerated and mostly unsubstantiated “studies” pouring out of what’s left of taxpayer supported, money grubbing, leftist Academia.
CNN = Fake News and Propaganda and Lies.
(In CNN, the C probably stands for Communist. The first “N” used to stand for news, but that’s been replaced by leftist propaganda. The second “N” must stand for Nefarious.)
Victor Davis Hanson’s ‘The War Like No Other’ video is 2 hours long but faster than the book that I’m half way through. His previous book that I have read is The Case for Trump, which I will re-read after I finish with the Peloponnesian War.

Panderfest2020 trailer illustrates the contrast in political discourse. It’s just a couple of minutes long.

I find the parallels between American politics and the history of Ancient Greece and the Peloponnesian War disturbing. Victor Davis Hanson consciously draws out these parallels in the video and the book, written in about 2005. Perhaps Victor Davis Hanson will be our Thucydides.
In re chastity (above),
Scepticism and Animal Faith (1923)
Skepticism is the chastity of the intellect, and it is shameful to surrender it too soon or to the first comer: there is nobility in preserving it coolly and proudly through long youth, until at last, in the ripeness of instinct and discretion, it can be safely exchanged for fidelity and happiness.
The Works of George Santayana
It is interesting that Santayana included this bon mot on skepticism in ‘Animal Faith’ and not in Reason in Religion or Reason in Science.
This after MSNBCs numerology 😀
Number 8
Number 8
Number 8
The Simpsons & MSNBC 😀
His derangement is a toxic stew of ecofascism, pure ignorance, hatred, and TDS. There are many like him out there, though perhaps without a megaphone and a piece of paper saying they are a “doctor”. Well, so was Josef Mengele.
Surely this is hate speech and Trump should sue CNN and the our psycho friend to force an apology.
He could insist any token damages CNN cough up be sent to combat wildfires.
CNN == Chit Not News
About the President’s official picture at the top of the article. I once saw the same expression in a picture of a WW2 Canadian airman. His wife told me he was hung over when they took the picture.
Trump doesn’t drink…period !
insanity resides in psychiatry.
Witch doctors. Never accept medications from these people. Your own delusions are preferable. (That’s not medical advise, it’s logic. They’re crazy and you know it.)
By this logic, psychiatry killed millions under Hitler and ecofreaks killed millions by eliminating DDT to save birds that later they would kill by the hundreds. So, ecofreaks, OWN IT.
Leftist projection again.
This is why psychology and psychiatry are anything but science.
Not that this is the right place to discuss it, but curious as to why you changed your view on this. As Michael Palin said, “a mad psychiatrist, that’s new.” I’ve met psychiatrists who were openly abusive to their patients, and others who were living testimony of how futile even decades of therapy can be. Anyway this one’s obviously off his rocker, mad as a March hare, just plain nuts.
Come on people! The guy is a shrink. The old dictum clearly applies. Internists know everything and do nothing, surgeons know nothing and do everything, pathologists know everything and do everything, but always a day late, AND psychiatrists know nothing and do nothing.
When you think about it, a perfect fit for CNN
Allen Frances is a very distinguished academic. He taught at New York Hospital Cornell Medical School and was chairman of the psychiatry department at Duke University Medical School. He was the editor of DSM IV (the 4th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association). He was very critical of the 5th edition that superseded the 4th 6 years ago.
He is 77 years old, and as far as I know retired from active practice. I meet him on a more than casual social basis some years ago and he was a very good host to us.
Like every other American, Dr. Frances is entitled to his opinion on subjects of public concern. As a professional, he is bound to not give an opinion about the mental health of a living person he has not examined. However, I think he was trying to disclaim that by saying “he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person”.
Dr. France’s ethical/judicial opinion about Trump’s culpability for climate change and its impact is the opinion of a layman and worth no more than that that of any other layman. It was malpractice of journalism for CNN to put him on television and ask him for his opinion on a subject he has no particular expertise on. Stelter’s excuse that he was distracted by equipment problems is simply lame.
None of this is to say that I agree with Dr. Frances. I think his statement is truly deficient because of number of scientific and political facts. In short, the belief that “climate change” is a net harm to humanity is the top layer of a multi layer cake of theories and inferences none of which are well founded or well established. Sadly, I think Dr. Frances like millions of other people in the US and Europe has been caught up in a campaign of hysteria that has created a climate of fear.
OTOH, I think some of the commentors on this page have over reacted to something that is quite trivial. I hope that the readers of this weblog will learn that a calm disposition and analytic thinking are of themselves valuable.
What the “good” doctor is NOT allowed to do is offer pop psychiatric evaluations of anyone, let alone in the MSM. Even though his license is inactive (I looked it up), it should still be pulled for flagrantly violating the Goldwater Rule. He may have also violated ethics guidelines particular to North Carolina, but I haven’t had the time to look.
Walter,
I know many people that are completely convinced that the “Global Emergency” is real and that “the Earth is on fire”, but none of them have even privately said anything so incendiary as Allen Frances, let alone publicly. Even if he really believes that millions have, or will die because of CAGW, to place it fully at only Donald Trump’s feet is completely irrational. I would like to be kind to the aging Dr. Frances and say he just exercised bad judgement in his pronouncement, but even that is too far to step back, at least for me. I have to say that it was one of the most irresponsible things I’ve ever heard an educated person utter on TV, and that’s saying something in this day and age.
Very well said, all of it. The argumentum ad misericordiam doesn’t work with me, so no – his age is no excuse. Thanks for this thoughtful analysis.
CNN should vet their guests more fully. The man is a shrink not in any way a climate expert. His comments about Trump’s effect on the world are silly. But I agree that some of the comments on this board are over the top. I think the climate change is way exaggerated. But I also think that Trump is a buffoon. Those two beliefs are not in any way contradictory.
Yep – a buffoon like a fox. Go, Donald! 🙂
So much hangs on that word “may”– Trump may be responsible for millions more deaths.
The word “may” has no contextual impact. You can invert the statement and it has the same impact– Trump may not not be responsible for millions more death. Why? Because it has not happened yet, and because there is no path now that we are taking that will lead to the certifiable outcome of “millions” of deaths or no deaths.
But don’t let that hold back the media.
The only way left to escalate this is stories along this line
Trump Is Literally the Anti-Christ.
Oh, I think they’ve already gone there. Try cross-referencing Nostrodomus’s ‘anti-Christs’.
Very little is said without the approval of the network and distraction is not an excuse.
And in this case says the same ones who carried on and on and on about the Russia influence in the election hoax now disproven. Now they are promoting climate change as a weapon against Trump as usual accusations without proof.
If CNN deserves any credit it is for snide remarks.
Well, CNN is worse than Goebbels – and not just because of Climate Change.
