Ocasio-Cortez Says 70% Ultra-Rich Tax Could Pay for Climate Plan

5 January 2019, 04:56 GMT+10Progressive House Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for a sharp tax hike on the highest incomes in order to fund a massive “Green New Deal” plan that would phase out fossil fuels by 2030, as she tries to push the political debate to the left.
“It’s ambitious,” the New York Representative told 60 Minutes in an interview scheduled to air Sunday. “It’s going to require a lot of rapid change that we don’t even conceive as possible right now.”
Asked how high taxes should be set, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t specify a figure but offered praise for policies in the past that set top marginal rates as high as 70 percent. The current top income tax rate is 37 percent.
“Once you get to, like, the tippy tops — on your 10 millionth dollar — sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60 or 70 percent,” she said. “That doesn’t mean all $10 million are taxed at an extremely high rate, but it means that as you climb up this ladder you should be contributing more.”

I guess we can no longer say Ocasio-Cortez has not thought about how to fund her new green deal.

She is coming to a cross road.
She is likely to self destruct.
Her ignorant policy ideas and kleptocrat tendencies are inherently unstable.
But calling her names and using sex humor may save her from the self destruction.
Pointing out her internal inconsistencies, her ignorance of facts and history are fair game.
It appears her ego will be her ultimate downfall, unless someone saves her from the jaws of defeat by enabling her phony victimhood pose.
The more interesting story would be to find out who or what is behind AOC. They plucked a rather nice looking, very young and uneducated (even though she supposedly has an Economics degree) bartender out of her place of employment, gave her a world class makeover – makeup, hair, and clothing, put together a political campaign for her and got her elected. Now that she is elected, they continue to fund and back her. My guess is that she is not the only one supported in this way. Might be interesting to look into, similar to the elevation of Beto O’Rourke in Texas. Cheers –

I like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Her heart is in the right place.
She is in politics to do something good. She has not been corrupted by the process, yet.
She has the vest, charm, and left-wing support to get something good done.
The problem is her plan would destroy the country.
It is a fact that ‘Green’ energy has been ridiculously super over hyped.
Green energy has significant limitations which there is no solution for. It is not the cure for the Left’s creation, CAGW.
We need a plan that works, that stops the Left from attacking our countries.
Either this comment is a failed attempt at comedy or sarcasm. Please clearly denote which it is.

Prior to her taking office, AOC said that members of Congress should get paid during a government shutdown. A few days ago a reporter asked her about this. She said, “Gotta run,” and ran away.
Yes, she’s gone “green”.
When a polician talks about adjusting tax rates, any journalist worthy of the name should ask how much it raises and does that amount cover what is required for the stated purpose. The answer here is that it will not even get remotely close to amount required for Cortez’s Green New Deal. It will be no surprise if our corrupt journalists fail to ask the question.
Why stop at 70%, how about 100%. 110%, 150% or 200%? Why only tax the rich? Middle class and poor people have money too! (All for the greater good! sarc)

It appears she has put about 30 seconds of thought into her plan – her fairy tale will be as real as global warming when they shut off her heat in mid-winter.
Overtax the rich and you drive them away to other countries.
I think anyone named Ocasio-Cortez should be taxed at 110%.
Now, now. I don’t think her name is worthy of taxation. However, I think any government that espouses socialist beliefs (such as she does) should pay socialist level taxes – ie in socialist societies all the wealth belongs to the state, so they should be taxed at 100%.

Washington is a franchise with the primary purpose to screw the tax payers . It is designed not to work .
The founding fathers had so little faith in human nature they constructed an almost endless loop cluster fuck .
It simply doesn’t work and people like Cortez , a commie virtue signaler, will be selling their book by next Christmas to make sure they get their piece of the pie just like leaker James Comey and the other assholes caught trying to take out a President because their sure bet choked .
When the shrinking middle class is gone we will be back to the rich and slaves ,with the slaves been given just enough to service the rich . The democrats are comfortable with slavery . Always have been .

Ocasio-Cortez will have a lot in common with Canada’s Prime Minister Mr. Dress Up . Loves the communist ways , open borders and thinks humans can set the earths temperature by manipulating a trace gas favorable to plant growth .
Complete wack jobs pushing a globalist agenda like Macron and other virtue signalers .
