British mainstream media paint a picture of almost universal support for climate action and overwhelming public hostility towards President Trump. But this is not the complete story.
Trump UK protests: Why environmental groups are protesting ‘climate vandal’ US president
‘Those who are already vulnerable and powerless are suffering the most under the climate-denier-in-chief’
Josh Gabbatiss
Science CorrespondentAs tens of thousands gathered in London to protest the visit of Donald Trump, among them were protesters calling out the US president’s less than exemplary record on the environment.
Branding Mr Trump a “climate wrecker” and a “climate vandal”, green groups object particularly to his withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement – a move scientists say has put global security at risk.
“It does often get lost in the more immediate human rights abuses, but if Trump succeeds in derailing international climate action the consequences of that are going to be unthinkable,” Claire James from the Campaign against Climate Change told The Independent.
“The planet is really at a tipping point at the moment. Scientists are warning ever more urgently that we need to act, and we don’t have time to hang around while Trump tries a last ditch effort to rescue fossil fuels.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who has presided over a massive surge in violent crime and terrorism, and whom President Trump has repeatedly publicly criticised, just suppressed a large pro Trump rally by threatening to arrest anyone who showed up.
‘Free Speech Is Dead’ – Police in Khan’s London BAN Pro-Trump Rally at U.S. Embassy
Jack Montgomery
14 Jul 2018Police in Sadiq Khan’s London have used the Public Order Act to prevent a rally in support of U.S. President Donald Trump outside the American embassy, despite permitting a large, ill-tempered anti-Trump rally on Friday.
Protestors attending the ‘Welcome Trump’ event had planned to gather outside the embassy and march from there to Whitehall, where they would have joined in with a separate ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ event in support of the activist and independent journalist who was recently imprisoned for contempt of court after reporting on a grooming gang trial.
But the Metropolitan Police Force, which answers to a large extent to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, used the Public Order Act to impose a raft of restrictions on both groups of protesters which made this impossible — despite allowing far larger anti-Trump protests at which at least six people were arrested to go ahead on Saturday, with demonstrators carrying signs emblazoned with harsh profanity and messages such as “Die Trump Die”.

Why would anyone use their political authority to suppress a peaceful political rally to welcome President Trump to Britain? Why would those same authorities tolerate violent green anti-Trump protests?
What the British establishment is desperate to conceal and suppress, in my opinion, is the scale of the populist British uprising. British swamp creatures don’t want anyone, including Britons themselves, to learn just how many people in the UK admire President Trump’s heroic effort to drain the Washington Swamp.
My evidence is the number of people who voted Brexit. In 2016 the majority of Britons, over seventeen million people voted to leave the European Union, despite the utmost efforts by greens and establishment politicians to terrify the British public into voting for the UK to remain part of the European Union.
The response from the British establishment has been nothing short of brutal. Britain is being repeatedly rocked by increasingly heavy handed efforts by the establishment to keep the green left nexus in power, and to defy the will of the British People by retaining strong ties with the deep green European Union. Efforts range from intimidating journalists, through imprisonment and blatant judicial mistreatment of a journalist who opposes government policy, to this latest outrage, the casual suppression of a peaceful British Trump supporter rally.
A few years ago, actions like the suppression of a peaceful welcome march in support of the President of a close ally would have been unthinkable. Today British government suppression of free speech and freedom of assembly is almost unremarkable, against the growing list of outrageous political attacks against what Britons used to think were their freedoms.

If they hadnt been planning to join up with the ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ march, they might have got away with it. (Tommy Robinson is the ex head of the English Defence League, an anti Muslim organisation, which he left because it became too virulent and aggressively anti Islam when it’s cause was taken up by BNP and National Front members. They ARE a violent lot.
Now no doubt you will claim the AntiFa are also violent, but one doesnt excuse the other, and 6 injured at an anti Trump meeting isnt much.
Oh, and re: “British mainstream media paint a picture of almost universal support for climate action ”
Not so, the Telegraph and the Daily Mail are very sceptical of CAGW.
(Disclaimer, I am anti Islam, but not violently, and Khan is a prick)
Wow, down votes because I point out the facts rather than follow the narrative. And you down voters think you are better than warmists?
Your dismissal of the violence of antifa with “Now no doubt you will claim the AntiFa are also violent” earned you a downvote from me. It’s not a claim, it’s a fact, that Antifa are violent thugs. and you claim to be the one for facts.
Your Dialy Mail and Telegraph examples are also deliberately deceptive, it is like saying the US Mainstream media isn’t left leaning because of the existence of FOX News.
I did not dismiss the violence of the antifa, but clearly it was not the antifa protesting against Trump, otherwise much more damage would have been done.
The Telegraph and the Mail are mainstream media, and they are CAGW sceptic. Fact.
Ever wondered where Delingpole started for example?
FOX News is a US mainstream media organiztion, FACT. That doesn’t make the US mainstream media taken in its entirety Right leaning. Just because you can point to “exceptions” doesn’t mean the “rule” doesn’t apply to the vast majority of non-exceptions. FACT. The previous posters comment about the British MSM applies to the BBC, Guardian (both of which are much bigger outlets than your cited exceptions, with auntie Beeb being the biggest outlet in the UK), and pretty much every British media outlet that *isn’t* the Telegraph or Daily Mail. (what part of “almost universal” in the previous posters comment did you fail to understand?)
And yes your comment was dismissive of Antifa violence by relegating it to the status of a “claim” (which you were dismissing) rather than the “fact” that it is. FACT.
You are wrong. Period. The Guardian is struggling, and the Daily Mail and Telegraph are very popular papers.
And no, I didnt dismiss antifa violence, but clearly given the lack of ashamed bank windows, it wasnt present at the anti Trump rally.
Yo dont like in the UK, you are English. Dont imagine you know better than someone who does.
Like Robinson leaving the EDL because it got taken over by violent thugs from the NF and BNP. You didnt know that did you? You do now.
I don’t think the “Die Trump Die” sign was as sinister as it sounds. More likely it was meant in this way.
The comma is missing, otherwise, that is funny.
3 things:
1: The BBC has totally got it in for Mr Trump. Any excuse to bad-mouth the guy is on their front page every time. Puerile and childish.
2: This is what’s going wrong with Brexit. Not least as May is utterly vacant, hence why she damn nearly lost her snap election. ANYBODY could see what was going to happen yet still she went ahead.
http://www.rationaloptimist.com/blog/the-battle-to-prevent-brexit/
3: All you need is the still from this from the BBC, looks like the first in a very long time that May has had an original idea – Donald gave it her.

“Josh Gabbatiss, Science Correspondent?”
I don’t see any ‘science’ in the quotes — only politics.
The British government got a taste for unfettered power during the IRA troubles, jailing without trial.
Remind me how the US constitution stopped Japanese American citizens being rounded up and slung into Manzanar?
FDR’s racism.
Germans were also rounded up in the USA during World War II. Was that racism?
They always mention the Japanese. They never mention the Germans. That way they can claim it was racism, instead of what it really was: Fear.
120,000 Japanese
11,000 Germans
3,000 Italians.
Not racist at all… unless you can count.
It was only Japanese on the West Coast who were relocated, not all Japanese in the US. It was primarily concern over invasion that led to relocation. Those who would sign a formal renunciation of the emperor, viewed by most as a deity, were allowed to serve in the military. Another potential issue was that the Japanese culture places the importance of family very high. As long as there were Japanese living on the West Coast, with family back in Japan, they were potentially subject to black mail. Removing them made it clear that those interred were not in a position to assist with an invasion, and thereby protected their relatives from harm by the Japanese. Sentiment was running very high after the Day of Infamy attack on Pearl Harbor, which happened while Japanese envoys were supposedly negotiating a treaty in DC. Relocating the West Coast Japanese probably protected them from vigilante retribution.
The Germans and Italians did not view their former political leaders as gods, and many, such as Einstein, were refugees from oppression. Also, Western Europeans do not have the same reverence for family as the Japanese.
While racism may have played a role in Japanese internment, it was not the sole or even major reason. It was concern that after all our Pacific battleships had been sunk, we were not in a strong position to prevent an invasion, having to rely heavily on coastal artillery installations, which were vulnerable to sabotage from Fifth Columnists.
I think that you have been brain washed by the Left and apparently aren’t capable of thinking for yourself. There is always two sides to a story. Hearing only one side is akin to a half-truth.
I’m sorry isn’t seperation of the powers supposed to protect the people from the caprice of the executive?
You honestly think that FDR alone was responsible for what happened and that he didn’t have the support of Congress and the public? You fit my definition of a Liberal, in that your world view is divorced from reality.
My take on the recent generation of UK politicians
David Cameron posh kid who didn’t have a career plan then found himself out of his depth as PM. Thought a referendum would get Nigel Farrage (see below) out of his hair, then ran home to mum when it didn’t.
Teresa May has got where she is by never making a decision, in politics you are either in opposition where you don’t have to or get moved before you do. Now unable to make or take one.
Jeremy Corbyn has lived in the shadow of a more talented brother all his life, as a result wants to take revenge on clever and wealthy people
Nicola Sturgeon wants to create a Carbon Free, Peoples Democratic Republic of Scotland whatever the cost.
Arlene Philips least said the better.
Boris Johnson, someone who couldn’t organise a leadership bid if handed to him on a plate. Much prefers a game of cricket or knocking small boys over playing rugby than tackling issues head on.
David Davis keeps his cards so close to his chest not even he can see them.
Jacob Rees-Mogg in it to protect his own patch, keep selective education and freedom to invest money where and how he likes.
Sadiq Khan as with JR-M except he wants to get rid of selective education and freedom invest other peoples money where and how he likes.
Vince Cable does anyone know
Nugel Farrage, thought he’d found a job for life which enabled him to irritate the established order across the continent of Europe and the UK as well, and have an easy well rewarded life until a comfortable retirement. Circumstances conspired against him to give him what he asked for and he too was forced to take his ball and run home.
Michael Gove serial back stabber
Liam Fox extremely creative in expense claims, but little knowledge of international trade
John McDonnell keen to assist Corbyn in his aims before ousting him in a bloodless coup.
Written with a great of cynicism, and a lifetime of watching politicians do whatever they want, a tongue slightly in cheek and expecting a great deal of flak here.
“Vince Cable does anyone know”
Don’t dis the Vince… man’s a legend predicted 17 of the last three recessions….
Why did they have the referendum? Because the EU “project” is exactly that .. a project with no legitimacy.
The “project” needs legitimacy because it has been stealthily imposed on the United Kingdom’s people without their consent. But a few diligent patriots continued to object unless a democratic vote was given.
What they are now attempting to do, via the Chequers white paper. is to legitimise the “project” by turning a democratic vote to leave into a vote to remain.
Do not give them legitimacy by allowing anything less than a clean break.
Maybe like-minded people from the UK and CA should join hands and sing sixties greatest hits, while driving in vans, fueled by ethanol and painted in vegetable-oil-based psychedelic colors.
Better still, the UK could welcome CA as a colony, once CA secedes from the USA.
I was thinking about CA (California), because this latest UK behavior is soooooooooooo CA.
Hey, a lot of us back in the 60’s joined hands, sang hippie songs and painted with psychedelic colors. The chicks like that were easy so gettin’ some from them was a lot less work and a lot less money.
Yeah–I was a”hippie” for a month or so.
Can’t remember if it was in 68 or 69, but Vancouver was full of the “beautiful” people.
Her name was “Sundance” and it was worth it. For a while.
Sigh,

“The 60’s were great but now I’m paying for it ” – Stan Lee in Ant Man and the Wasp
Not quite accurate, 33,551,983 valid votes were cast, turn out was 72.21%, so just over a third of the electorate voted leave, just under a third voted remain & just over a quarter couldn’t be arsed to vote.
What I noticed via the media, during Donald Trumps UK visit was how the local “journalists” spouted out names for the American President including “Fascist”, Mysogynist and Racist, none of which are true.
For the first, I have never seen an American President so overtly respect the US Constitution, for the second, he has had three wives, and hardly hates women, and the third he is a friend of Israel, has a Jewish son in law and a daughter who has converted to Judaism and is overtly reducing unemployment and making opportunities for African, Hispanic and legal immigrants in his country.
If a little man like me from the far corner of the world, can see that, what the hell is the rest of the world thinking and doing?
Cheers
Roger
Well said, Roger!
The anti-Trump protesters are a minority. In a recent poll asking whether Trump should be welcomed to the UK, 50% said yes, 30% said no, and 20% were don’t nos.
Could May be stalling for time to give the EU time to collapse? If so, she’d muddle through. (Unlikely, i realize.)
I’ve seen no photos that would lead me to believe that ‘tens of thousands gathered’. As a professional, musician I’m pretty on-spot on estimation of crowd sizes, and the knews righter (stet) is off high by an order of magnitude
“Why would anyone use their political authority to suppress a peaceful political rally to welcome President Trump to Britain? Why would those same authorities tolerate violent green anti-Trump protests?”
Who said the anti-Trump rally was violent? And who said it was “green”? There are all kinds of complaints people have about Trump beyond his environmental stance.
And the pro-Trump rally was not “banned,” it happened!
“British police have arrested a man and a woman at a right-wing protest in London, where people supporting a prominent right-wing activist were joined by a “Welcome Trump” rally.
“The small rally supporting U.S. President Donald Trump — who’s in Scotland after visiting London — joined the “Free Tommy Robinson” protest Saturday in London’s Whitehall.”
Maybe restrictions were place on the Trump/Robinson rally because in June there was a Robinson rally that became violent.
“Scotland Yard had imposed restrictions on both rallies “due to concerns of serious public disorder and disruption.” It said a June rally by the “Free Tommy” group resulted in serious violence in London and led to nine arrests.”
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-london-welcome-trump-rally-20180714-story.html
” Robinson—the founder of the far-right group known as the English Defence League, or EDL—is currently serving a 13-month prison sentence for breaking contempt of court laws. The 35-year old political activist is known for inciting violence against Muslims and holding rallies that often end in violence.
….
“Robinson protesters attacked police officers with signs and crowd barriers at a protest in London last month, resulting in the arrest of nine protesters and the injury of five officers.”
https://www.dailydot.com/layer8/pro-donald-trump-rally-london/
There were an estimated 250,000 people at the anti-Trump rally. Even if the real figure is only half that, six arrests is hardly indicative of a “violent protest.” Two were arrested at the much smaller Trump/Robinson gatherings.
Kristi Silber – Well put together.
This may be a bit simplistic, but I think that the Trump haters wanted the pro-Trump rally postponed or cancelled because they couldn’t attend their own rally and cause trouble at the opponent rally simultaneously. Their bluff was apparently sufficient.
No Pop; no worries on that score. It’s not simplistic: it’s simply plain wrong. It wasn’t banned or posponed. It went ahead . . the facts are easy to establish. I’ve included a link above. And Kristi has set it out clearly, in some detail and with context, in the main comment just above yours, posted an hour and 8 minutes before yours.
It truly appears that Europe is on it’s last legs of independence. Populists best rise up now or bow long and low to their unelected Marxist leaders
“Mayor of London Sadiq Khan…”
Khan? A Turk?
But the blimp of Trump was a pathetic attempt at protest. It was beyond infantile.
“Mayor of London Sadiq Khan…
Khan? A Turk?”
British, born in Tooting to British parents.
An easily checkable piece of information.
Certainly not British, if that is what you are trying to imply.
Not simply is it necessary to have many many generations born in Britain, it is necessary that one hold’s British values. Khan satisfies neither.
He is a Pakistani who happens to have been born in Britain, his parents, who are Pakistani, having lived in Britain for just 2 years prior to him being born.
My wife’s Norwegian. She has lived in Britain for more than 20 years, but she is not British, she is Norwegian. Our daughter is therefore of mixed race (but none the worse for that).
“Certainly not British, if that is what you are trying to imply.”
No implication is being made. He’s a British Subject Born in Britain to British Subjects… He’s British It’s a fact …
Khan is a British passport-holder – no more.
You are quite correct about the absence of British values among British Pakistanis. I worked for a year in a school in Luton which had an intake of boys of Pakistani and Bengali background. I was astonished and chilled by their hostility to the host culture, despite being born and raised in Britain.
KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember London in 1976. Back when I lived in Hampshire I used to go to London on the weekends sometimes. It was a great place to visit. Lots of fun, good food. I remember I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show on the west end (with Tim Curry no less).
I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Too many good memories to be ruined.
