Non-Quote of the week – what the IPCC didn't say about Pachauri's looming sex scandal

NQOTWAs more allegations come forward from other women, it looks as if the railway engineer turned fake Nobel Laureate is about to have a train wreck far beyond his resignation from the IPCC. Nonplussed, the IPCC goes into bunker mode and treats Patchy’s pants issue as if it didn’t exist at all. Even some veteran climate reporters who have reported on the IPCC in the past are now raising eyebrows:

jonathan_leake IPCC-sex-a-scandal-PRThe press release is here: http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/ar5/P41_acting_chair.pdf

Good luck with the Streisand Effect, chumps.

Patchy’s resignation letter is a real hoot: http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/ar5/150224_Patchy_letter.pdf

Donna LaFramboise writes of it:

Today, he finally exited the stage. In true Pachauri fashion, his resignation letter is a two-page love letter to himself. You wouldn’t know that recent allegations of sexual assault, stalking, harassment, and uttering threats suggest strongly that he is a longtime sexual predator.

Meanwhile, the world awaits the inevitable mug shot and the perp walk.

In Pachauri’s letter of resignation from the IPCC he said,
“. . . For me the protection of Planet Earth, the survival of all species and sustainability of our ecosystems is more than a mission. It is my religion and my dharma.”

If it looks like a religion, if it smells like a religion, if it feels like a religion, if it quacks like a religion and if it walks its talk like a religion then follow your dharma ‘cause it’s a religion all right.

“Patchy’s pants issue”?
As they say, where there’s smoke …
Note to future head of the IPCC – Speaking what the IPCC considers “truth” may require flame proof underwear.

I don’t think the Weiner Defense will fly. He should have used the Clinton Defense: it’s a vast, right wing conspiracy, or the Obama Defense: racism.

Well, well, I wonder what the next framed award will be that Rajendra will be able to hang above his mantelpiece in his luxury Golf Links home in New Delhi where you need millions of US dollars to buy the cheapest of houses. But will he still be living there next year I wonder?
According to Wikipedia his present award list includes:
* India’s Padma Bhushan award.
* NDTV Global Indian of the Year for the year 2007.
* Nature News maker of the Year 2007.
* UNIDO Goodwill Ambassador 2008.
* The second-highest civilian award in India, the Padma Vibhushan 2008.
* The ‘Order of the Rising Sun – Gold and Silver Star’ in recognition of his contribution to the enhancement of Japan’s policy towards climate change. He was bestowed with the decoration by Emperor Akihito.
* Order of the White Rose of Finland from the President of Finland in recognition of his work in promoting international co-operation on climate change and sustainable development.
* The French ‘Officer of the Legion of Honour’.
* HEC Paris appointed Professor Honoris Causa 2009.
* University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne appointed Professor Honoris Causa 2012.
* The Pico della Mirandola Prize by the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Mirandola 2013.
Please keep any suggestions dignified and remember these are only allegations.

Is there any truth to the rumor that in his next novel Pachauri will change the name of New Delhi to Nude Ellie?

Although I am no fan of R. K. Pachauri, I also am reluctant to accept moral accusations against any public figure at face value. I would prefer to judge on the merits of the arguments rather than the reputation of the messenger. As they say “what is good for the goose is good for the gander.” Mr. Pachauri’s words and misdeeds during his tenure at the UN speak for themselves.

PMHinSC,
I tend to agree with you. Look at the Cosby accusations. Maybe some are true, maybe not. But I’m skeptical that they’re all true.
But with Pachauri, there may be a little more to this. Remember when Pachauri’s resignation was demanded a couple of years ago, over some wrongdoing? He dug in his heels and refused to even consider it, saying he would serve out his full term. Eventually the whole thing blew over.
But now? This accusation has caused him to promptly resign. So there might even be more to it than we’ve read about. Time will tell. Or not…

It’s not just the accusation in this case, from what I can see he’s already made himself look guilty just by the ridiculous things he’s saying in public. Not really a bright spark, that one.

“..his illness which include cardiac issues and UTI” (urinary tract infection).
He’s really taking the piss if he’s using ‘UTI’ as an excuse for alleged “groping and physical assault on the complainant.” He would be better believed if he listed ‘sex addiction’ and ‘fantasising about melting himalayan glaciers’ as his illnesses.

You misread the article. His attorney is putting forth UTI along with “cardiac issues” as grounds for anticipatory bail, not as a defense against the accusations.

His resignation from the IPCC is just to give time to set the record straight. So there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, unless that light turns out to be a fast-moving freight train…

I’m glad Pachauri is gone, but I’m confident the IPCC will find someone worst to replace him.

No doubt about that. It is an absolute certainty that the next head of the IPCC will be a “the oceans are going to boil away by 2100, the models prove it” warmist, what isn’t a certainty, is that he will be as ineffectual and incompetent as Pachauri. There is no guarantee that the next leader will be incapable of organizing a three car parade. As bad as the IPCC is, given competent leadership, it could be truly frightening. There is the distinct possibility that the next head will not be content to just babble about things as he freeloads his way around the planet. The risk of that happening are not zero, but since it is a UN organization, they are fairly low. Hopefully the unlikely does not happen. In the meantime, enjoy the shadenfreude.

he is not a “Nobel Laureate” !!! [ipcc & Al Gore received the award and not ipcc chairman]
When we informed the minister of Environment & Forests, Government of India on Himalayan Glaciers retreat conclusion in IPCC report is inaccurate, Pachauri told to press “this is voo-doo science” but within months IPCC withdrew this conclusion.

I think this is much smoke and mirrors. Pacharuri is FULL of HUGE conflict of interest and FUNDING scandals for the IPCC. These stories and scandals break on a NEAR regular basis to the internet.
So, why not have Parcharuri step down – LONG overdue.
However, do you step down because of funding and conflicts of interest and deceit and outright unprofessional behavior in regards to all those years of service to the IPCC?
Of course not you silly fools!
You step down because of a sex scandal. It is the oldest magicians trick in the world (misdirection).
So all of the HUGE scandals in regards to IPCC and his conduct are NOW tossed under the rug. IPCC walks away really unscathed, and Parcharuri does not give a dam – he made millions from this position.
I remember several years ago how HARD it was to realize that Arnold Schwarzenegger was a complete sell out. As soon as he jumped on the global warming bandwagon – I knew he was a prostitute of a politician and HE DOES know better, but sold out anyway.
Global warming has made it EASY to show how an AMAZING LARGE group of governments and people are selling us out – without global warming, I could NEVER get people to believe such a vast number of people are pushing their socialist agenda on the public.
Parcharuri also knows better – this is just a VERY scummy way to step down and not include IPCC in his scandals in regards to his position on the IPCC. This has nothing to do with sex.

From Pachauri’s “resignation letter:”
“[AR5] was a blessing and a rare moment of glory for the science community and me when I received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the IPCC in 2007.”
If I were a member of the so-called “science community,” I’d be livid at Pachauri’s lumping himself with the rest of us. And “…when I received the Nobel Peace Prize” is another prize-worthy bit of self-inflation. The sentence should read:
“[AR5] was a curse upon humanity and a rare moment of shame for the science community and me when I debased the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the IPCC in 2007.”

From Pachauri’s letter of resignation:
“The IPCC needs strong leadership and dedication of time and attention by the Chair in the immediate future, which under the current circumstances I may be unable to provide, as shown by my inability to travel to Nairobi to chair the plenary session of the Panel this week”
Well that’s it then!
Because I have some urgent personal problems with the police and the courts in India I am unable to devote enough time to the IPCC, so I shall resign instead! All a bit inconvenient really!
