Some days, you just have to laugh. As WUWT readers know, we’ve had the Josh 2013 Skeptic Calendar done independently in the UK via Bishop Hill, and of course we gauged interest here at WUWT. Josh sent over the artwork via email which I turned into the USA version. (Note: Dr. Mann probably doesn’t realize that Josh is a professional illustrator in the UK who gives his climate caricature services to skeptics free each week, just for fun.) Last week I sent out a few free copies to some folks that I thought could really use some Christmas cheer: Dr. Mike Mann, Dr. Gavin Schmidt, Dr. Peter Gleick, and Dana Nuccitelli.
Never beyond my wildest dreams did I think it would turn into a #Kochmachine conspiracy theory issue. But then again, there’s this strange pervading idea that skeptics are well funded and well organized. Here’s what Dr. Mann Tweeted today:
If four people is “widely distributed” well then I guess we all need to revise our world view.
It gets even funnier. Here is what he posted on Facebook:
The return label says COSTCO Photo Center, not Heartland, not Koch Brothers World Headquarters, and not “Skeptic Lair”. I guess Dr. Mann really is out of touch with the common man, because all he had to do was visit COSTCO photo center to see for himself that ANYONE can create and order calendars, and have them sent to friends or family, just like I did. No Koch Brothers credit card needed.
It is really easy. All you have to do is upload JPEG images (Josh’s artwork emailed to me) and use the calendar creator wizard.
Here’s what it looks like after completion in the COSTCO photo center website:
And in answer to the question of:
“Who paid for production and shipping costs for this flashy (apparently widely distributed) Anthony Watts WUWT climate change denial calendar?”
The answer is, me. I used my personal credit card, here’s the screen cap of the order to Dr. Mann. I’ve blurred out his address as a courtesy to him:
See the “did you know” sidebar item that allows you to send orders from COSTCO.
So, I spent a whopping $15.84 to send this, and about the same for the other three. Given the reaction, I’d say my plan to spread a little good humor just didn’t work on the humorless.
Merry Christmas anyway Dr. Mann, and to you too Gavin, Peter, and Dana. (Of course none of this would be an issue if the world had just ended yesterday like it was supposed to, but I’m an optimist).
If you want a calendar, you can get one here. For the USA edition, Josh and I split the meager profit, the Koch Brothers get nothing. If you are in the UK/Europe, you can get one at Bishop Hill’s place. Or at http://www.cartoonsbyjosh.com/
P.S. Oh, I should mention, I gave one to Steve McIntyre too. Here’s (Right to Left) Steve, Mosher, Charles the Moderator, and I at AGU in San Francisco at a private dinner at COCO500 (Steve and I split the check). Note the Josh calendar on the table:
UPDATE: 9AM PST 11/23 It seems Dr. Mann’s ploy has backfired. This article is now #1 on WordPress worldwide. See the screencap from the WordPress dashboard:

Awesome, I love it!!
Boohoo, watts sent me a koch funded calender, lets impose as Charles The Moderator, ask Anthony for the koch invoices, spice them up and publicize!
What a humourless knob that Mann is!
Still, he’s advertised Josh & his wares far & wide, to those Greenies who wouldn’t dream of looking here & Bishop Hill!
Hmmm….Yesterday when I retrieved our mail there was a package, and I noticed it was from Costco. As I didn’t order anything from Costco, I’m thinking this “calendar conspiracy” must be bigger than we thought! The fact that my wife snatched it away from me, accusing me of looking at her mail means nothing.
Michael Mann is the kind of person who made the Soviet Union just so much doggone fun.
Well done Anthony, well done…

Great idea Mosh! He’d probably go buy them all to keep them from being seen.

No, he would get a federal research grant to buy them up.
Anthony.
Recall what Steve mc talked about. Storms of our parents and grand parents.
1. Ask goddard to dredge up the worst weather news for every day of the year.
2. Pick a worst for every month
3. Josh to do a cartoon on the worst weather for that month.
4. for every day of the year put the description of the worst weather for that day in the
box. Like Feb 14: 1898: flood kills 3000 in timbuktoo
Of course the cartoon can feature some little mann making pronouncements

“. . . far too much ad hom . . .”
Your comment is a general one not necessarily addressed to the current post. As such, it is a useful comment. No one seems to have addressed it with respect to this post, so I will.
Subtle or not so subtle differences in context need to be recognized. When Person XYZ makes a statement about climate or any other legitimate subject it is not appropriate to attack their personal appearance, the religion they were born into or accept, members of their family, and all such things. When a person makes a public statement that is stupendously silly, seems clueless about the world, lacks understanding regarding irony, lacks a sense of humor, and a sense of good cheer during these seasonal holidays . . . then it is not an ad hominem argument to point out that the person is behaving in one or more of the ways mentioned.
Arguments of the ad hominem kind focus not on the evidence but on the character of the person advancing it, seeking to discredit positions by discrediting those who hold them. Some comments above might fail in this regard. But that’s is not the fault of the post as done by Mr. Watts.
Maybe we got the wrong meaning?
koch-machine is german for cook-machine.
kochen=boiling
Wonder if somebody felt boiling, watching the calendar?
Well done Anthony, small presents bring big smiles!
And a super thanks to Josh!
You should have sent him a lump of coal.
“It’s a Saturnalia Miracle!”
I think Mann is more of a Festivus type of guy.
+++ on Mosher’s idea – that’s really, really good!
The only thing I hear about Pennsylvania State University in addition to the above named person, is as follows: http://paranormalresearchsociety.org/
Coincidence?

Oh that one would be great to send to all our politicians to remind them Weather Weirding is Warped thinking, but we need it before Jan 1 and they stick us with a carbon tax.
Highly amusing.
But, like several of the other commenters, I start to feel a little – tiny – bit sorry for the esteemed Dr. Mann.
Can he really be so severely by-passed at the humerus?
I think Penn State should seriously consider some form of analyst for their star climate chap. He’s brought millions in grants – its is the least they can do . . . .
Otherwise – Merry Christmas to all (INCLUDING the fragrant Dr. Mann) and all best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Auto
… and the Earth did not exist before you were there the first time …? How religious! [face palm!]
Note that what ShrNfr @ur momisugly 12/23, 2012 at 6:29 am refers to, to go canoeing the same path is something extremely dangerous today and doomed to fail with a fatal outcome …
The climate occurs in cycles … Get used to it!

Perhaps add some of the predictions the Hansenites have said should have happened by now along with a few quotes that had been used to describe how “extreme” last year’s weather had been?
Michael Moore: “ARGH! Anthony Watts MUST be funded by the Koch brothers to have the money to send me this! Now if you will excuse me, I need to cash my check from a George Soros organization before the banks close for Christmas.”
(Just a little satire to highlight the hypocrisy of fussing about where someone gets funding.)

Mine came addressed to my wife. As she didn’t remember ordering anything from CostCo, she figured it was a present to her from someone and gave it to me to open and wrap. I think I’m still expected to wrap it.
Mann’s analytical skills are clearly poor,,, if he is not careful he may one day publish something and declare the results as fact and convince gullible governments and media organisations to abandon rational study and strategy and pour money into things they may not need to…. oh hang on a minute…… 😉

Thanks, Oakden Wolf, is that the same NASA that cashes in 1.2 bn USD in Global Waring research funds thanks to their alarmist employee James Hansen?
I take it that the Antarctic melting will start RSN now… 🙂
(Probably beyond my investment horizon, unfortunately)

That’s better than I thought, a real side-splitter if you’re not an American taxpayer, now look at this, they found out that it snows on the sea ice. No really.
And re the 1.2 bn USD a year in Global warming research funds that NASA devours, here’s the links, just for brevity.

The best part is of course:
Yay! Soon we’ll know even better what happens when it snows on sea ice! Keynesianism at work! Print, Bernanke, print!
Regarding the first link: There are stuff missing there, check the date!
Second picture covers only 29 years and ends 2007! (One year less then T Pugh example.) Today we are near end of 2012 … What happened before 1979 and after 2007 …?
