This just in from The Daily Climate, Kerry tells us we are winning, but the blames the usual suspects rather than the message itself. I love the part about where we “made up our own science“, which is sort of like when Kerry swiftboated the weather back in 2008, except there was really no support for his position in science. Of course that lack of basic understanding couldn’t be the reason “people just turn off” when he’s talking about climate, could it?
Kerry: ‘We have lost the notion of responsible capitalism’
Venting frustration at the lack of progress on environmental issues, U.S. Sen. John Kerry voices the exasperation of a core constituency in President Obama’s re-election bid.
By Doug Struck For the Daily Climate
BOSTON – Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry, exasperated at what he called “the flat-earth caucus,” on Sunday described the frustrations of working on environmental issues in the U.S. Senate.
Even amid the “Tuesday Group” – a bi-partisan bloc of lawmakers, mostly Democrats, who are interested in energy issues – “you can’t talk about climate now,” Kerry said. “People just turn off. It’s extraordinary. Only for national security and jobs will they open their minds.”
Kerry, in a dinner speech at Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, voiced the exasperation of an environmental movement that had high hopes with the election of President Obama in 2008 but has been disappointed by the administration and largely shut out after the Republican takeover of the House in 2010.
“The irony is that we used to be a nation that valued science. We have become a nation that is now discarding science,” Kerry said. He spoke at a conference on the challenges facing the Arctic, attended by Iceland’s president, Olafur Grimsson.
…
Opponents to the legislation “made up their own science. They made up their own arguments,” Kerry said. “The Republicans created this idea of (carbon credit) trading because it avoided command and control by the federal government.” Then, “they just decided to pick up and brand this a negative.”
Kerry blamed brothers David and Charles Koch, oil billionaires who have bankrolled attempts to discredit climate change, as well as opposition from energy companies. “You have Peabody Coal. You have MidAmerican. They have these big old cash cows, these old coal-powered plants. It’s just cash coming in, and they want to keep it that way.

Kerry is free to state his opinions and commit logical fallacies.
However, he has no right to change history. The fiction that the ancients believed in a “flat-earth” Eratosthenes (276 -194 BC) calculated the circumference of the world with the assumption that the Earth was round, Washington Irving appeared to invent the flat earth myth in his fantasy: “The Life and Voyage of Christopher Columbus,” (1828).
More than three thousand years ago Job knew that God
“suspends the earth over nothing.”
Kerry’s rhetoric cannot make up for invalid climate models.
Back to the science. We need robust objective climate science that will produce accurate verified and validated climate models, not wishful fantasies of environmentalists.
I’m pretty sure Secretariat can have his electricity disconnected any old time he wants, but he doesn’t. I wonder why.
What’s particularly galling is that Kerry married into the cash “cow” of the widow of a REPUBLICAN senator, John Heinz, Theresa Heinz. He divorced his first wife, something the MSM never brings up. So yes, the Kerry’s are living the high life, bashing conservatives, using the hard earned cash of a former Republican senator. ick.

Very astute to put Withers in charge of dismantling the projects he assembled. With luck, he’ll quit his position & therefore not be eligible for the payoff he’d get for dismissal!
As for wind generation in the UK, it’s not been above 8% of capacity for nearly 2 days and dropped to about 2% at one time. Really useful power!

Perhaps the Senator may be interested in developments in Queensland, Australia. Who is pushing for a resumption of sanity in the US?

Thank you for posting this, Geoff. Made my day! 🙂
In response to philincalifornia’s very interesting link, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/26/ocean-currents-time-lapse-nasa-video_n_1380778.html?ref=science&icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D146888 There is an area missing, hint polar bears live there. Since this video is supplied by NASA and we all know who works there, well kind of makes me wonder why that area is missing, considering relationship between currents and ice cover issues.
Weird science program called ‘Global Weirding’, invented in the West Texas but promoted among others Mike Lockwood. Steven Wilde will be pleased, it’s all down to UV apparently melting the Arctic Ice and freezing river Thames during Maunder Minimum. It’s a new chapter of the climate ‘Science Weirding’.
John Kerry says “We are going to have to find a way to price carbon. Price carbon, and the market place will move forward very rapidly.”
Umm…. Earth to John! We have priced carbon…. it’s called $2.50 gallon for gasoline. You relax the overly restrict EPA restrictions to make coal the cheapest electrical energy source again and you will really see the market place move forward very rapidly.
these big old cash cows

Jez, if I talked about my wife that way!
What a staggering combination of arrogance and ignorance. . . . . .
@James Baldwin Sexton:
His relationship to capitalism is even more removed then that. He married the widow of the person that made the money. So not only does he not have a clue, neither does his spouse. Not only that but the person that made the money was a conservative republican senator from Pennsylvania who died in a freak helicopter accident. (O.K. his parents(Heinz) started the business and he expanded it)
Kerry did once try to run a cookie store, but went bankrupt in short order. I don’t really blame him on that though as something over 50% of business startups go bankrupt in short order. The fact he didn’t seem to learn anything from it is the problem.

After the election, he’ll have more flexibility to fully express his intentions.
========================================
Another hidden agenda, more lies before the election……from the most open and honest government we’ve ever had…….
We have to hurry up and pass it…..so you can read what’s in it
…and Kerry can’t understand why we don’t just take their word for it
What is most amazing….they all have the same script…and can all look straight into the camera….say that…and not even flinch
@johanna:
Incumbents in office are almost always returned to office (it is the biggest problem in American politics) so I am afraid that so long as he has a pulse, we are stuck with this plank headed politician. He represents the same state that sent Edward Kennedy back to the senate for 45+ years, so no worries about them turning him out.
Some very quick good news from OZ. Talk about hitting the road running.
Newman is cutting back on green funding idiocy in Qld already. That a new govt can start to address this fraud so quickly is a wonderful bonus for all Aussies and strengthens Ted’s arm here in Victoria.

Abbott will have plenty of room to slash spending on this fraudulent nonsense and help poorer Aussies cope with heating and cooling their homes at least.
Problem is we need an early election to start to properly wind back this idiocy, but Juliar will try her best to delay it as long as possible.
Likewise all independents except Katter are frightened witless by the prospect of facing the people and with good reason.

Kerry: ‘We have lost the notion of responsible capitalism’
lol, his only association to capitalism is by marriage. What does he know about it?
________________________________
What capitalism?? We have not had true capitalism in one hundred years thanks to FRACTIONAL RESERVE BANKING.
In true capitalism the owner(s) invest their wealth in a business and generate more wealth. In today’s system capital (wealth) is stolen from the general populous via fractional reserve banking and lent by bankers to the “owners of record” This means the “owners of record” of the business generating wealth and the banks collecting interest win, but the people who actually supplied the wealth, lose by having their wages deflated and the price of goods inflated.
Does Kerry know this?
Probably since he and the rest of the politicians take advantage of the system. That is why they voted it into being in 1917 in the first place. “…the State [government] authorized the practice of fractional reserve banking as a means of financing itself…” and we all know how much the US government loves to run up debt. Debt that is financed by printing money out of thin air.
One of the other puzzle pieces that may have bearing on – CAGW/Carbon Credts/Global Governance – subject is the fact that all fiat currencies eventually lead to hyperinflation. Therefore the idea is to invent a “New Currency” based on “Carbon Credits” and reboot the entire system before the bankers and politicians find themselves tarred and feathered or worse.

There are still people missing who got lost in his labyrinthine sentences from his campaign speeches back in 2004 and never came back out.
wow! not a single concern troll has shown up to whine “oh please make this a nice scientific blog since politics has nothing to do with this issue.”
I think even THEY now have had to admit that politics has EVERYTHING to do with this issue. It’s science that doesn’t have much to do with this issue anymore.
EAT MORE KETCHUP ! ! !
Kerry’s cash cow knows how to “properly” invest her excess profits….[buy a Senator]….
Whoever did the photoshop left out the picture of his lucky hat.

Sen. Kerry’s comments are dumb in two great ways. First, about cap and trade, he is very wrong. Cap and trade for CO2 was dreamed up by Enron and Gore and his crew did Enron’s bidding to get it in in 1998 Kyoto. Cap and trade is sometimes pushed as a “market based solution” that should appeal to American “conservatives” because it sounds market-y and Republicans push their own scams pretending to serve the hypothetically dreamy “market.”
Second, Kerry made a grave error of James Hansen size. Kerry criticized cap and trade. Cap and trade, and the capital it fronts for, (energy, finance, etc.) is probably 80% of the money behind the “global warming solutions” movement in America. Guys like GE are tag alongs, so are the “liberal” action groups funded by business and its government crony. When Hansen explicitly called cap and trade a scam, which it is, he became almost persona non grata. That’s why we see Mann in an expenively made production recently, the P.R. people think we, the public, need a “face,” one which Hansen used to provide. Kerry can expect no more money from Big Green and Wall Street unless he immediately clarifies!!
By the way, if Hansen wants a new income stream, do what L. Ron Hubbard did, start a religion! The 350.org group of kooks is basically a Hansen-cult already, he can take it over easy.
Thank you Gail Combs for highlighting a key piece of the puzzle. Without FRB and the Income Tax, Congress wouldn’t be able to expropriate the property of those of us who work for a living, let alone redistribute it.

There is nothing more dangerous than the Senate’s richest member, having a guilty conscience that will not be assuaged by any amount of other people’s money to spend on a cure for which there is no disease.
This slow talking dolt merely repeats talking points he has been prepped. His lack of scientific or economic acumen is legendary.
