Trump Taps Fracking Executive and “TV-ready Evangelist for Fossil Fuels” for Energy Secretary

From Legal Insurrection

Chris Wright, Chief Executive of Liberty Energy, a fracking company based in Denver, has been outspoken in challenging climate change pseudoscience and championing sound energy policy.

Posted by Leslie Eastman

President/President-elect Donald Trump has tapped the head of an innovative fracking firm to serve as the next Department of Energy Secretary.

Chris Wright is the Chief Executive of Liberty Energy, a fracking company based in Denver.  Wright’s appointment is on-brand for Trump’s new template for candidates: Wright is innovative, embraces new approaches to energy development, and is not connected to the Deep State.

More importantly, for Americans who appreciate accessible, reliable, and inexpensive energy, Wright does not believe the “climate crisis” hysteria.

The ire from progressives just drips from The New York Times announcement of this pick. The digs at his “lack of government experience” are completely hilarious.

Mr. Wright, who calls himself “a tech nerd turned entrepreneur,” is a media-friendly evangelist for fossil fuels who promotes a feel-good message that oil and gas can lift people out of poverty, while disparaging climate science.

In a video posted on LinkedIn last year, Mr. Wright declared, “There is no climate crisis, and we’re not in the midst of an energy transition either.”

Mr. Wright, who has no government experience, caught the attention of Mr. Trump in part through his appearances on Fox News. He also appears frequently on podcasts and social media videos, often using language and imagery associated with progressive causes to link oil and gas with issues like the fight for women’s equality.

Mr. Trump announced Mr. Wright’s appointment in a statement and praised him as a “leading technologist and entrepreneur in energy.” He said in addition to leading the Energy Department, Mr. Wright would also be a member of the newly formed council of national energy.

As I said, completely-on-brand for Trump 2.0.

Wright founded the company in 2011. Since he has been at the Helm, Liberty Energy has grown into into one of the largest fracking companies in the United States.

Under his leadership, Liberty Energy reached a significant milestone in September 2021 by achieving 24 hours of continuous 24-hours of continuous pumping time with zero non-productive time for an oil company in the Permian Basin (a region that should be now familiar to Legal Insurrection Readers). It is currently the fourth largest oilfield service company in North America and its annual revenues were $41 billion in 2022.

What were the qualifications of Biden’s Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm? She was the Governor of Michigan and endeavored to foist sustainability priorities on the automotive companies. And let’s not forget how she ran the Department: Declaring war on our appliances and using her privilege to jump to the head of a charging station line.

Wright isn’t afraid of challenging climate virtue signalling, either. In 2021, Liberty Energy launched a campaign praising high end sports apparel company, The North Face, for using petroleum products in their clothing while criticizing the stance on sustainability. The energy firm commissioned billboards and videos highlighting The North Face’s reliance on fossil fuels for their products.

https://twitter.com/TPostMillennial/status/1401277316806975492

The billboards were incredible.

https://twitter.com/Mutnodjmet/status/1857951472211894469

I have longed for representatives of the fossil fuel industry to fight the underhanded tactics used by climate-crisis promoters. In a LinkedIn video, Wright shows he will be a champion of sane energy policy.

https://www.linkedin.com/embed/feed/update/urn:li:ugcPost:7021513567682142208

“There is no climate crisis….and we are not in the midst of an energy transition either.

“Humans and all complex life on Earth is simply impossible without carbon dioxide. Hence the term “carbon pollution is outrageous.

“Carbon dioxide does, indeed, absorb infrared radiation, contributing to warming. But calling carbon dioxide “pollution is like calling out water and oxygen, the other two irreplaceable molecules for life on Earth.

“There is no such thing as clean energy or dirty energy. All energy sources have impacts on the world, both positive and negative.”

Energy enables all human activity and is too important to cheapen the dialog using these 5 deceptive, alarmist terms….climate crisis, energy transition, carbon pollution, clean energy, and dirty energy.

I wish Wright all good success, as he will be undoing the destruction wrought under both Obama and Biden.

CAGW is basically a cult, and should be dealt with as one.

If indeed the CAGW narrative is characteristically similar to a type of secular religion worthy of a cult, then I have only to remind everyone that the union of church and state in the U.S. is unconstitutional.

Trump appears to be implementing lessons learned from his first presidency and has a second opportunity to demonstrate the faultiness of the CAGW narrative to the whole world. I hope he takes advantage of it.

I’m starting to think that Donald Trump losing the 2020 presidential election might not have been quite so bad after all – he has come back stronger and wiser and with a much better understanding of what has to be done to drain the swamp. And – sobering thought – he only made it by the width of an ear.

Many people have recognised that.

Fauci was instrumental in destroying Trump’s legacy from his first term. The election rigging that got Biden into office provided the motivation and lesson for Trump to harden up and realise what he was dealing with AND who put USA first rather than being woke globalists.

The measure of any of Trump’s nominees to drain the swamp can be gauged by the negative responses they get from the globalist democrats, government employees and the LSM..

There is a silver lining to that cloud (Trump losing the 2020election) If he had won then on Jan 20 next year he would be leaving office but instead he will be taking office. Plus he now knows how “Yuge” the swamp is, and how many really nasty swamp creatures there are. Hopefully he’ll drain the swamp and flush all the swamp critters down the drain.

We have fluoride in toothpaste now, which was not present when fluoride was added to the water. Now the science is telling us we are getting an unhealthy dose of fluoride.

On top of that, consider the tons of fluoride being entered into the water systems and ultimately the ocean. Fluoride has a pH of about 2.5, which means it is a contributor to “ocean acidification” better stated as a light reduction of the ocean alkalinity.

Why wouldn’t DOJ have charged Gaetz if there were even a little support for the case?

Looks like Joel Greenburg is the source of the accusations against Gaetz:

At least one of the girls he paid for sex was 17 years old at the time – and Greenberg alleged that Gaetz had also had sex with her – a claim federal authorities investigated but were unable to verify.

(source: BBC)

Looking into Greenburg a bit it’s easy to find this:

After initially facing 33 counts, Greenberg pleaded guilty in May 2021 to six federal crimes.

The stalking charge was related to a hoax that Greenberg perpetuated against a teacher who ran against him in 2020, when he was running for re-election as Seminole County tax collector.

As part of his plea, Greenberg admitted sending letters to the teacher’s school, falsely accusing them of sexual misconduct with a student. He also tried to make the teacher look racist by making fake social media accounts under their name and posting inflammatory material.

(source: CNN)

The guy seems to have a bit of a credibility issue, especially when it comes to accusing other people of sexual misconduct.

There is more credible evidence Joe molested Ashley than there is about Gaetz.

The real irony is that the Democrats are the *actual* “threat to democracy.” They *installed* a candidate that *nobody voted for* when the demented sock puppet got pushed out because they finally could no longer hide the truth about him.

If they held a primary, no way Harris, who dropped out in the very early stages last time running left of Bernie Sanders (now THAT is saying something!), would NOT have been the candidate.

But the Democrats were drooling over the “war chest” they would lose access to, so the “diversity candidate” got the nod of “the party.”

“‘CO2 does absorb infrared contributing to warming’”

For the ones liking to “explain” things with single sentences:

  • Most heat transfer in the atmosphere is related to evaporation and convection and the models lack resolution to simulate those with the resolution needed for many alarmist statements to be possibly proven.
  • Let´s finish the discussion about global warming first before moving on to the more complex question of climate change and unfortunately climate science did not produce any significant progress as to magnitude and uncertainty of the CO2 sensitivity in over 40 years of climate science.
  • “climate denier” is a particular disgusting insult coming from the historic attempt to link climate skeptics to holocaust denial and represents an attempt to avoid a factual discussion
Chris Hanley
Reply to  Laws of Nature
November 17, 2024 7:48 pm

In his 12 min video Chris Wright isn’t attempting to explain global warming he is merely stating a physical fact to avoid mischaracterisation.
There is no way of empirically determining CO2 sensitivity except to say it is most probably at the lower end of the IPCC range and is irrelevant to his job anyway.
The term “climate skeptic” is as meaningless and absurd as “climate denier” and the label ‘denier’ as applied to trivial arguments about climate is offensive because of association with denial of the mass murder of Jewish people during WW2 and its use cheapens the magnitude and historical uniqueness of that event.

Reply to  Chris Hanley

“There is no way of empirically determining…”
Modtran is very good for atmospheric IR calcs, and the parameters it uses for cloud, rain, RH, are reasonable…so you can use it for determining from the base case 400 ppm CO2 to 800 ppm….1.21 degrees…approximately…and would be lower for less “sunny” localities than the tropical one I chose.

Yes but it is best to separate the *physical fact* (CO2 absorbs infrared radiation) from the PURELY HYPOTHETICAL EFFECT (the notion that it *might* “contribute to warming” of the climate).

Too many times, the PURELY HYPOTHETICAL EFFECT is conflated with the “physical fact.” And thereby mistaken as “fact” instead of “hypothesis.”

In time, there will be a realisation that the notion of a “greenhouse effect” impacting Earth’s energy balance is all nonsense.

We know Earth’s climate is temperature controlled by the sustainable limit of 30C on any ocean surface with the present atmospheric mass.

But Chris Wright does not know this fact. Otherwise her has a good handle on the Climate Change™ scam.

Ocean surface cannot sustain >30C over an annual cycle. It is a function of cloud persistence as the surface temperature increases causing the atmospheric water to increase.

At 30C, the the relationship between reduction in OLR and increase in reflection is two times over ocean warm pools. So the cloud forming process provides a powerful negative feedback that restricts further temperature rise.

The 30C sustainable limit has been known for a long time but the research essentially buried. If you search 30C ocean temperature limit, most of the results will be what I have posted but if you add Ramanathan to the search you will find earlier work.

That doesn’t mean it would be 30C without the greenhouse effect. It’s colder in most places, and much, much colder in many.

We know Earth’s climate is temperature controlled by the sustainable limit of 30C on any ocean surface with the present atmospheric mass.

The fact the ocean surface cannot sustain temps over 30 does not disprove increased atmospheric warming indirectly form an ”enhanced GE” – unfortunately. Playing the devil’s advocate, it could simply mean that the ocean surface temp eventually remains closer to 30C than it would otherwise. Eg, what would happen if the sun suddenly increased air temps by 2 degrees?
In other words, the ”energy balancing” might remain the same but we would see more frequent high temp peaks in the ocean – surely. That would reduce the atmospheric cooling rate and bring up the average, wouldn’t it?
If I have missed something please point it out.

Reply to  RickWill

Rickwill, you drop into every thread with the exact same argument and it is dead wrong while also being right.

Is there a 30 Deg C max to ocean surface temps? I’ve seen evidence to support that.

Does CO2 absorb infrared photons that would have otherwise escaped to space and instead return them back to earth by collision or emittance? Yes, that is also true.

But the warmer it is, the larger the area of ocean that is at 30 Deg C max is. If it were to get warm enough, the ocean would reach 30 DegC from one pole to the other would it not? Would being 30 DegC from pole to pole be warmer than what we have now?

Of course it would. You’re conflating two issues. CO2 has a warming effect that has nothing to do with your pet theory (which I believe has some merit).

Because CO2 can not and does not affect the atmospheric temperature gradient..

You can scream no all you want, this is been proven in physics, spectroscopy and chemistry labs all over the world. The number of alarmist scientists who believe this is 100%. The number of skeptic scientists who believe this is 100%.

If you want to win the argument with the alarmists, you start with a sound foundation in physics. If you start with something that is patently wrong, you will be dismissed by both sides, and having discredited yourself already, everything you say after that will be ignored.

Reply to  davidmhoffer

Stare at this graph carefully. Its not linear and that sometimes trips people up. But this depicts the absorption spectra fairly well. You can see that CO2 overlaps H2O for the most part, but there are peaks at 4-5 microns and 10 microns that contribute to the total absorption (grey bar) going out to space.

This graph has been replicated literaly thousands of time by various research groups. You can find many that are more detailed and are better scaled with a bit of googling. Most importantly, not only has this graph been documented by researchers on earth, satellites looking at earth confirm it.

You can argue how much sensitivity is because we don’t know what all the feedbacks are, if any. But if you want to argue that an upward bound photon with a quanta of energy that would have otherwise escaped into space instead runs into, and is absorbed by, a molecule of CO2 and doesn’t add that energy to the total of the earth’s… that’s just not true.

Absorption.. ignoring every other form of atmospheric energy transfer

Perhaps you would like to try

1… Please provide empirical scientific evidence of warming by atmospheric CO2.

2… Please show the evidence of CO2 warming in the UAH atmospheric data.

3… Please state the exact amount of CO2 warming in the last 45 year, giving measured scientific evidence for your answer.

And it has been shown by measurement that the tiny absorption by increased CO2 leads to an increase through the atmospheric window.

Nothing is being trapped. That idea is AGW mythology.

No, your understanding of the physics is what is erroneous.

Yes, CO2 absorbs in a tiny weak band, but rest of the statement…

and instead return them back to earth by collision or emittance?””

Is just balderdash.

I pee in the ocean.
Is there more water in the ocean?
Can you measure it?
What is the exact percentage of water in the ocean that is pee?
Is there any imperical proof that my pee went into the ocean?
Can you show on any sea level data and increase in water equal to my pee?

No?
Obviously I did not pee in the ocean then.

OMG back-peddling like a little child.

So you peed in the ocean…. NO-ONE CARES. !!

There is the response I was expecting. I give you a mirror image of your own arguments and you call me a child. Asking to find the pee in sea level is exactly like finding the temp increase from CO2 in the UAH data set. You’ve been indicted by your own childish arguments. You also totaly missed that bog simple experiment that another commenter offered you. The bottom line is that you have made up your mind and nothing will change it.

I used to be like you, I used to believe arguments like yours. I got out the text books, I learned the relevant physics and chemistry, I set out to prove that I was right, CO2 can’t do that. Well I proved to myself that I was wrong. It can, and it does. What’s the sensitivity with all feedbacks included? I don’t know, nobody does for certain. Is doom unpon us? Of course not, nothing dramatic has changed in severe weather, drought, flooding or wildfires for decades. These are the arguments to confront the alarmists with.

So you can ask why you alone amongst millions of citizen and professional scientists came across a fact which if proven would earn you a Nobel Prize, or you can crack some texts books and find out how things actually work.

By the way, I snicker every time you snottily challenge people to find the CO2 signal in the UAH data. The first weather satellites were designed in part by Dr. Spencer who compiles UAH and publishes it each month. Why don’t you write him and propose your crack pot theories to him? If he bothers to answer you at all it will be to tell you that you’re wrong. He gets assertions like yours every day, in fact he complains about the number he gets being too large to manage.

I learn new facts, and when those facts are not in accordance with my beliefs, I change my beliefs. You cling to them like a drowning man clutching a rock because it is the only thing he can hang onto. I tried to help you, I truly did, but I’m done.

Huh?…CO2 absorption of IR is easily demonstrable with an IR camera, an IR source, and a CO2 source between the Camera and IR source. The energy absorbed, hence heating, is a simple calculation.
You are basically denying water contains protons cuz you don’t understand what a pH meter reads.

Tropical bands, not whole Earth. A minor nit.

My hope has always been that if DJT got a second bite at the apple, he would eliminate the EPA’s Endangerment Finding by appointing a ‘red team’ of highly qualified individuals to demonstrate the scientific and economic faults in the climate alarm narrative. You don’t need a scientist, like Einstein, to lead this effort, but as with Leslie Groves and the Manhattan Project, you do need a technically competent person with excellent managerial skills to herd the cats and to navigate the obstacles that the bureaucracy and the media will certainly erect. I believe that Wright could do a great job of leading this effort over at DoE.

It keeps getting better. The more the Progressives complain the more you know we’re on target. I’m sure Chris Wright is adept at handling their smears and misinformation.

November 17, 2024 5:10 pm

This guy Chris Wright is the real deal! The LinkedIn video is very good. His line of thought parallels that of Alex Epstein, and to some extent that of Bjorn Lomborg. Both are very rational and articulate about priorities and costs vs benefits.

As a mechanical engineer – imagine that! – he should eventually be able to see that even the “contributes to warming” sense of what incremental CO2 does in the atmosphere arises from a misconception, which I have posted about often here at WUWT. The confirmed properties of CO2 as an absorber and emitter of infrared radiation do NOT mean that heat energy can be made to accumulate as sensible heat down here under the circulating atmosphere as a result of rising concentrations.

Best wishes to him at the DOE. This is important.

The statement “unfortunately climate science did not produce any significant progress as to magnitude and uncertainty of the CO2 sensitivity in over 40 years of climate science.” is not quite right. There have been many empirical analyses that find it very low- mostly under 1.5C. It’s the attempts to deduct sensitivity with models that has failed but that is because the models are wrong.

You of course correct!
There is a disconnect between the political motivated illustrations like this

comment image
(basically showing no change besides slight redefinitions what is measured/shown over the years)

and Scarfetta’s collection of experimental results

(That is something for people like Gore and Dessler to comment on, why is there a trend visible here towards less-alarming numbers? Could it really be that climate scientists in the past overstated their results? – in value and certainty of the value- Are they still doing this?)

That one of the highest estimates for climate sensitivity to CO2 was reported by someone called Knutti is so appropriate…

And even those “low” sensitivities are ASSUMING “ALL OTHER THINGS HELD EQUAL.”

The *negative* feedbacks in the climate system will reduce those to something indistinguishable from ZERO.

Which is why:

  1. There has never been a “runaway greenhouse effect” at levels as high as 7,000ppm;
  2. The Earth had a FULL BLOWN GLACIATION with 4,000ppm;
  3. There have been multiple occurrences of REVERSE CORRELATION between CO2 and temperature both in proxy reconstructions (ice cores) and in the instrument record (the “ice age cometh”) in the three decades between ~1945 and~1975.

Trump 2.0 has learned a thing or two and isn’t messing around draining the swamp before the mid terms-
Chris Wright appointment the ‘nail in the coffin’ for US climate targets
Go early go hard while the Dems are in disarray working out how to disown woke and the mad left.
Not all his picks will work out and that’s the legitimate role of the Dems and MSM to point out but if the majority do then real change can happen and get the lead out of American saddlebags and hopefully rub off elsewhere in the West. Greatness awaits.

Lefties don’t do irony but here’s one with the usual Marxist wish list attempting the historical academic approach-
Alexander Hamilton’s nightmare: How America became a ‘Mafia State’ — right under our noses | Opinion

“Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a wo/man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish her/him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make her/him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States.”

LOL lefties.

Given that Alexander Hamilton had absolutely no role in drafting the Constitution, the very first sentence of the referenced MSN article is clearly a blatant falsehood, and the rest of the puff piece goes further downhill from there.

While many ‘conservatives’ admire Hamilton, they should consider that he has mainly been an icon on the Left due to his efforts to establish an all-powerful national government.

Perhaps he was describing the Kamal.

We all know how she got into a position ***** in California.

Wasn’t able to pull it off at the Federal level.

“Meritless” doesn’t really even start to describe her ineptitude properly.

I’m also Chris Wright. I wish him every success in this very important post. His heart is certainly in the right place!

Probably like many people here I have watched the slow destruction of the western world with a sense of horror, depression and anger. Under Biden some of the worst excesses have occurred in the US (though the UK is not far behind). But I now feel a sense of hope. It may be that, under Trump and his successor in four years, it will be the US that saves the West.

We live in interesting times….

Oil and gas companies can’t advertise on a North Face jacket because North Face’s hypocrisy needs the entire outer surface. Sleeves are too small.

LOL. Wright’s ad makes me laugh every time I see it. Thank you Chris Wright – and give ’em hell.

The other mindless organization constantly spewing nonsense while 90% of their products are derived from oil and gas is Patagonia. It is ignorance on a level that is incomprehensible.
