China Downplays International Hopes Of Beating Carbon Emissions Targets Ahead Of Meeting With Biden Climate Czar

From the DAILY CALLER

China’s top energy officials dampened hopes that the country’s carbon emissions have already peaked Thursday following July reports the country would stop increasing emissions after this year, according to Bloomberg.

China’s carbon emissions were largely reported in July to be on track to decline or plateau annually this year following data suggesting a reduction in coal usage and an increase in green energy output. However, Song Wen, the head of law and institutional reform at China’s National Energy Administration, downplayed the rumors Thursday, adding that even meeting China’s original carbon emissions target of peaking by 2030 will require “great efforts,” Bloomberg reported.

“We should not forget that China is still a developing country, pursuing modernization for a huge population,” Wen told Bloomberg at a press briefing Thursday. “Great efforts are still needed to achieve the goals of peak carbon and carbon neutrality.”

Wen’s comments come the week before an expected meeting between President Joe Biden’s top climate aide John Podesta and China’s top energy official Liu Zhenmin to discuss environmental collaboration efforts and reducing greenhouse gas emissions beyond just carbon dioxide, such as methane and nitrogen oxide. Both methane and nitrogen oxide are associated with the burning of coal. (RELATED: Biden Admin Official Spurring Green Airplane Initiative Owns An Oil Well)

China accounted for two-thirds of the world’s new coal plants in 2023 after approving an average of two plants per week the year prior, according to The New York Times and a study from the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air. The country was responsible for roughly half of global coal production and consumption as of February 2023.

“When it comes to coal, given that China is such an overwhelming part, whatever happens there really defines the global trend,” Li Shuo, the director of China Climate Hub at the Asia Society Policy Institute, told NYT in April.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The chances that China’s carbon dioxide emissions have already peaked are precisely zero. China is still developing and much more energy will be used in the future. Hoping that China’s emissions have peaked is just another example of the delusional world which climate alarmists inhabit.

LOL.

They are openly building two coal fired power plants a week, and they’re telling us they’re reducing CO2 emissions?

You haven’t been lied to by China, you have been lied to by the green blob and leftist media telling us all China is going green, with the same photographs of the same renewable sites circulating for years.

You have been lied to by western government propaganda persuading you that the Chinese are virtuous, and distracting you with their fantasies of falling CO2 emissions whilst the Chinese just get on with business.

The Chinese don’t need to say anything, our green blob and western media do it all for them.

COP events are just a giant propaganda exercise with tens of thousands of green blobbers and leftist western media concocting ‘clever’ stories between them to persuade the west to deindustrialise itself because they hate Capitalism whilst worshipping communism.

The Chinese and Russians have painful, living memories of communism, and never want to return to starvation and deprivation. Do you think these people are stupid? They are watching the west allowing censorship of speech, societies split over LGBTQ+, immigration and racial issues, with their jaws hitting the floor.

Sorry folks, the Chinese are not the problem. We are.

China will do whatever it wants to do. It can rely on the Western media to spin it favourably, as most have no doubt noticed.

O/T  We thought back in the day that Michael Foot (Labour, 1983) wrote the longest suicide note in history. But no, that is yet to come. This time the suicide note will have full legislative backing. But…. it’s the same old, same old Cricket approach on a Rugby pitch. Stiff upper lip, chaps.

“”UK may unveil tougher emissions targets at Cop29 climate summit

It is hoped the plan will help kickstart global ambitions on cutting emissions and encourage other countries to follow suit.””
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/aug/29/uk-emissions-targets-cop29-climate-summit-labour

Doublethink
While doom and gloom spring eternal in la la alarmist land, simultaneously, hope that “the plan will help kickstart global ambitions on cutting emissions and encourage other countries to follow suit” also springs eternal. Luckily: “”The Cop29 summit will take place from 11 November, days after the US election, making it difficult for the US administration to plan its impact at the negotiations.””

The question there is: will Kamala have to take Walz on every interview to hold her hand?

Reasons to be doubleplusuncheerful.
“”A spokesperson for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said: “The energy secretary will be front and centre of climate negotiations and will personally be leading Cop29 negotiations for the UK””

We’re stuffed. The US still has a choice to make.

Worse than a mountain out of a molehill. They fabricated a dispute that didn’t happen in order to avoid explaining why Biden and Harris didn’t show up to honor the thirteen killed by the reckless departure from Afghanistan ordered by Biden and Harris—defying the advice of their military advisors—and Trump did. Funny how leftists are big on signaling their supposed virtue for the cause of the week and telling us how compassionate they are while conservatives are in fact virtuous and compassionate and actually volunteer and serve.

Yes, the Democrats saw how bad Trump’s honoring of the troops made Biden and Kamala look, so they created this false reality of a controversy at the cemetary to try to make Trump look bad instead of good. This is standard procedure for Democrat liars.

The Trump organization says they have everything on video and a confrontation did not take place and they can prove it. But that doesn’t matter to deranged Democrats looking for anything they can find to smear Trump, and if they can’t find anything, then they just make it up, like they are doing here.

You can’t believe a thing the Democrats say. They have a political agenda and the truth is not part of it.

That’s true. This ought to be the easiest election for a Republican to win. The Democrats have screwed up everything they have touched.

The unknown factor is how influential is the lying Leftwing Media? So far, they have managed to convince millions of people that it is a good idea to elect Democrats, even though the Democrats are destroying the nation. But, of course, those who listen to the lying Leftwing Media don’t know that because the lying Leftwing Media hides bad news.

But, the lying Leftwing Media can’t hide the price of groceries and gasoline.

Anyone who would vote for a Democrat is detached from reality. They would be voting against their own interests in reality, while thinking they were doing just the opposite, because the lying Leftwing Media told them so.

Trump is campaigning virtually every day along with Vance.Trump and Vance are sitting for interviews and press conferences almost daily. No time for golf. Have you seen him play golf lately? Except for an excellent round with PGA and U.S. Open champion Bryson De Chambeau which you can watch on YouTube to get to know Trump the person instead of Trump the Demon King caricature painted by mindless leftists and the media (but I repeat myself), he’s been extremely busy campaigning.Harris is avoiding extemperaneous speaking, like press conferences and interviews. In over a month, Harris had one softball interview with Walz to hold her hand while Trump amd Vance had dozens.Harris is practicing like crazy for one debate while trying to change the agreed rules because she’s terrible at unscripted oratory. There’s a reason she never got a single vote in 2020 and dropped out before the first primary.I suspect Harris has severe anxiety in extemperaneous interviews. She sounds nervous a lot and often resorts to ill-timed cackling. The indecipherable word salads she frequently tosses are probably a symptom of that nervousness.

The irony of holding COP 29 in Azerbaijan is palpable. The country is home to one of the world’s largest gas fields, Shah Deniz, in the Caspian Sea and is expected to extract 411 billion cubic metres (bcm) in the next 10 years.

Meanwhile fossil fuels provide just under half of the country’s GDP, over half of government revenues and more than 90% of the country’s export earnings.

Laughably, Wuhan was a US funded laboratory “EcoHealth received $3.7m from the NIH, $600,000 of which was given to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.” (BBC)

Building two coal fired power stations a week is hardly lying about fossil fuels, what they are doing is out in the open. The people lying to you about everything is the Biden regime, the green regime and the MSM.

What slave labour do they exploit? We had sensationalised shots of Uyghur Muslims, who are the Chinese equivalent of ISIS, splashed across the leftist western MSM.

The difference from the west is when the Chinese catch terrorists they don’t lock them up in concrete compounds like Abu Ghraib and torture them, they put them to work to pay for their keep.

No point blaming everyone else for western screw ups, it’s our fault and until we recognise it, we can’t fix it. The Chinese didn’t force western businesses to locate manufacturing there, they invited us and we jumped at the chance of cheap labour and land.

“Laughably, Wuhan was a US funded laboratory . . .”

Your point, although well-intentioned, misses the mark.

It is most likely true that China’s WIV received $600,000 USD from EcoHealth (Peter Daszak, a friend of NIAID and NIH), but that is nowhere near the amount of money invested in that laboratory over the years leading up to the release of the SARS-CoV-2 virus from that lab in 2019.

The WIV was set-up and funded primarily by the PRC/CCP, with strong evidence supporting that its not-so-hidden agenda was developing viruses for biowarfare.

Per Reuters
China has approved 218 GW of new coal power in just two years, enough to supply electricity to the whole of Brazil.
China has pledged to start cutting coal consumption over the 2025-2030 period, but developers are building as much new capacity as they can before 2025

Per Carbon Brief
China accounted for 95% of the world’s new coal power construction activity in 2023, according to the latest annual report from Global Energy Monitor (GEM).
Construction began on 70 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity in China, up four-fold since 2019, says GEM’s annual report on the global coal power industry.
This compares with less than 4GW of new coal power construction starting in the rest of the world – the lowest since 2014

Points in fact:

The Paris Agreement of 2016 (aka the Paris Climate Accords), a bunch of paper of signed national commitments to limit greenhouse gas emission that was supposed to take effect starting in 2020 . . . stillborn and now headed for the dustbin of history.
