‘You’re Utterly Ignorant’: Ted Cruz Lights Up Climate Protesters Interrupting His Speech

From THE DAILY CALLER

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz clashed with a group of climate activists who interrupted his remarks at a Thursday night event.

Protesters sat themselves on the stage next to Cruz and began chanting slogans, ostensibly to bring attention to the issue of climate change and protest against Cruz’s positions on energy, during Cruz’s remarks at a Thursday evening event hosted by a conservative organization in Washington, D.C. Cruz did not back down, instead using the microphone to question the activists about their knowledge of basic climate and energy facts, grainy footage of the incident posted to social media shows.

“Hold on, hold on, which country is the biggest climate polluter on planet Earth?” Cruz asked the protesters. “You have no idea. You’re a protester and you’re utterly ignorant about what you’re protesting about. What’s the answer?” (RELATED: Eco-Activist Who Vandalized Stonehenge Recounts Being Bullied By American Bros Chanting ‘Oil’)

“OK, so you have none,” Cruz said a few seconds later. “He’s literally protesting about climate, and he can’t tell you who the biggest polluter on planet Earth is. And he won’t.”

One of the activists barked back at Cruz with a response that is mostly inaudible in the footage.

“What country is the largest polluter on planet Earth today?” Cruz said, before one of the protesters said it is the U.S.

“OK, so this young lady has no clue, she said ‘the United States of America,” Cruz said. “She is protesting, and she has literally no idea. By the way, the answer is Communist China. Which country leads the world in reduction of carbon emissions? Are you gonna know the answer to that? I’ll give you a hint, it was the wrong answer you gave before: it’s the United States of America.”

The crowd then began to applaud Cruz. (RELATED: ‘I’m Speaking’: Kamala Harris Laughs As Climate Protester Yells At Her About Hawaii)

“Do you know why?” Cruz continued. “The reason is because of the thing you’re protesting against: fossil fuels. No, no, you’re so ignorant, you don’t know. So if you’re going to protest, confront some facts.”

China is by far the world’s leading carbon polluter, according to The Carbon Brief, and the country permitted an average of two new coal plants per week in 2022, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

The U.S., meanwhile, reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by about 17.5% between 2005 and 2022, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data. Many energy sector experts have credited the natural gas boom of the late 2000s as the primary driver of this reduction, as a boom in affordable, cleaner gas allowed the country to reduce its reliance on coal.

Between 2005 and 2022, U.S. energy production from natural gas approximately doubled while coal use decreased, and U.S. natural gas consumption increased by  about 46% over the same time period, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data.

Cruz “will not be intimidated by climate protesters who ignore basic realities,” a spokesperson for the senator told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Facts, schmacts.

Climate protesters feel strongly about… something. They really, really care. No one can dispute their truth.

Cruz is right about the ignorance of activists. However Authoritarianism is their objective not common sense. The main point for the mainsream is that carbon dioxide is a good gas and essential to life. Man made carbon dioxide has an insignificant effect on the climate. Clouds and water vapour are by far the most important green house gases and dwarf the quantity of CO2.

Craig Idso’s Elderica Pine experiment and his quadriptych of four stages of growth under different levels of CO2 – couldn’t be much clearer about the value of CO2 to the earth. A greening earth is a blessing – if you like food for instance.

Plants are at the base of the food chain. All animals live by either eat plants or by eating animals that do – in the case of Humans we do both.

Take away plants, all animal life on Earth dies.

I should correct my attribution to Craig Idso. Sherwood Idso actually conducted the pine tree experiments in the 80’s. Craig, his son, reports on the study’s findings here: https://www.masterresource.org/carbon-dioxide/increased-plant-productivity-the-first-key-benefit-of-atmospheric-co2-enrichment/

Climatistas are mostly ignorant about climate science, mostly being kitsch socialists who reflexively oppose the US and The West. Industrial society is used interchangeably with Settler Colonialism and the White Patriarchy as their favorite demons.

We need more “congress-critters” to learn some basic facts about energy and energy production/distribution and maybe….. just maybe… we won’t have the idiocy that we see coming out of D.C. today… but I’m not holding breath waiting for that to happen.

I’d agree except that too many “congress-critters” already know but are more concerned with “The Green” and/or “The Cause”.

Congress critters are mostly lawyers who couldn’t cut it in private practice or business. About 2/3 of our congress critters are scientifically illiterate and innumerate. Cruz, Rand Paul, and maybe a few dozen others actually seem to have educated themselves and recognize the climate and energy scams. I wish we could come up with some system that would require our representatives to pass a test on basic relevant facts before they are allowed to vote on technical matters.

I was the chief engineer for a division of a large multinational company working in a highly technical area. We did not allow MBAs, Sales & Marketing folks or accountants to make engineering decisions. I could essentially veto proposals even from the CEO that involved engineering issues. Sound engineering is not compatible with a democratic process. Authority should be firmly in the hands of the competent.

Good for Cruz. Ridiculing protesters is effective. Alinsky Rules for Radicals #5.

China the biggest emitter thanks to coal egeneration growth.

US the biggest reducer thanks to fracked natgas and CCGT as old coal plants close at end of life— 42 years per FERC. A few years ago when I looked it up, about 25% of all remaining US coal generation capacity was due to close by 2025. A new coal plant takes 4 years, a new CCGT takes 2.5. About half the capital cost in almost half the time. SCC about 41% energy efficient, while CCGT about 61%.
A no brainer with any natgas price under about $8/mmbtu—matching ~energy cost of the cheapest low sulfur Powder River Basin sub-bituminous steam coal (at typical 8% moisture content) on a net energy efficiency basis. And with those numbers, CCGT produces at worst about 40% the CO2 emissions of an equivalent SCC—more likely about 35% (depends on coal moisture content).

Notwithstanding Cruz’s correct report on gas playing its part, China now emits much of the CO2 the USA used to since a great deal of manufacture has transferred there. The same applies to Europe.

Moving CO2 emissions round the World allows some Governments and the Climatrons can claim and pretend ‘decarbonisation’ is being successful. Similarly ‘clean’ emission-free BEVs hides the fact the emissions are coming from the power station not the tailpipe, and no emissions from wind turbines but instead from the gas-power stations constantly burning gas on back-up.

Christopher Chantrill

But, but, but. It just can’t be that the reduction in CO2 emissions in the US is due to fracked natural gas plants replacing coal plants.
It just can’t. Because fracking is eevil.

Nice comment. You can apply UK ‘logic’, or you can apply the US facts. Not both.

The real reason UK opposes fracking isn’t ground water contamination (because the way frack wells are designed that is now physically impossible), nor the ‘earthquakes’ (there is more ‘seismic’ activity near a busy motorway with heavy trucks). It is objection to burning natgas for fear of climate change.

UK under the newly resurgent Ed Milliband will eventually go dark, freeze—losing thousands of innocent citizens, and maybe only then repent.

25 thousand people already die from cold in Britain every year. I have used the pre-covid figure because the figures are now distorted by covid deaths. Most British politicians don’t seem to care about these deaths. Climate alarmist politicians like Ed Miliband probably wouldn’t care if the death rate increased to 100 thousand a year. They would think that this is a price worth paying to “save the planet”.

Fracking was first used in 1949 by oil drillers, and a little later by the gas drillers, and has been used extensively world wide ever since.

Long before 1949, old timers would remove the pitcher pump from their well pipe, stick a 12 gauge shotgun down it, and fire a cartridge with the lead removed to renew the flow. That was your first ‘fracking’.

The first fracking was done in the 1800s with dynamite, used to break up the hardened sand and and rock in water wells. My ancestors used a 22 well before WII to break the hardpan from the Sandpoint used for water wells. As for oil production it been used all along. Hydraulic fracking(injecting sand and water under high pressure in the fractured rock after the blast) came into use I believe in1949.

I recall a doc on TV about fracking in oil wells which was used a few years before 1949. In 1949, company applied for and received a patent for the
process.

Isn’t the big difference now vs then is that they can send the drill pipes sideways? Doing that amplifies the potential output?

Directional drilling is what you are referring to. It doesn’t amplify output, it allows access to oil/gas that could be under a mountain, for instance. It also allows the same companies to access oil/gas that is under the property of someone who refuses to allow drilling on their land. At least, here in Canada

*That human CO2 scammer phrase needs quotation marks to prevent promoting AGW; CO2 is plant food and, moreover, any warming effect of additional human CO2 emissions is, per Dr. William Happer and Dr. Richard S. Lindzen and Dr. John Clauser and thousands of other non-corrupt physicists and other scientists, negligible.

In other words: CO2 emissions are not “pollution.”

Humans added 140 ppm of CO2 to the approximately 280 ppm in 1850

That is one third of the current total

This commet is wrong and may be the dumbest comment I have ever read in 28 years of using the internet

140ppm were added to 280ppm of 1850.

Presenting the conclusion that Humans did it without any supporting evidence, is invalide. For one thing how did the 280ppm get there?

The 280 ppm got there after nature absorbed a lot of atmospheric CO2 over billions of years.

The most distant period in time for which we have estimated CO2 levels is around the Ordovician period, 500 million years ago. At the time, atmospheric CO2 concentration was at a whopping 3000 to 9000 ppm!

It is possible that CO2 was 1% or more billions of years ago.

Atmospheric CO2 level 1.4 billion years ago was at least ten to 200 times greater than today, according to the new research.

4.6 billion years ago:

The surface was molten. As Earth cooled, an atmosphere formed mainly from gases spewed from volcanoes. It included hydrogen sulfide, methane, and ten to 200 times as much carbon dioxide as today’s atmosphere.

Around 1850, the human contribution to the earth’s CO2 budget was about .6 %. (Physics of the Atmosphere and Climate, Murry Salby, 2016, p. 26).

Your assertion that it was 50% is off by an order of magnitude.

FYI: The human CO2 contribution “is still only about 4% of total CO2 emission, which is dominated by natural sources; cf. Fig. 17.11. Consequently, even a minor imbalance between natural sources and sinks can overshadow the anthropogenic component of CO2 emission.”
(Ibid. at 26-27 (bolding mine))

MOREOVER,

the remaining bandwidth in which TOTAL atmospheric CO2 can possibly affect the “greenhouse effect” is vanishingly small. The effect of the human ~4% of that total is, thus, negligible.

RG claims that all human CO2 remains in the atmosphere and adds up.
That no one has a comprehensive understanding of the full carbon cycle, or even the hydrological cycle is irrelevant.

And about 7 minutes into watching President Trump, I watched with HORROR on live TV our heroic candidate get SHOT by an assassin.

Appalled. Dismayed. Not surprised.

Praise the Lord. Trump is okay.

God is in control.

But, a patriot in the crowd died. Given, that bullet would otherwise have hit “the bullseye,” killing Trump, that person gave his or her life for freedom.

The pushback that Senator Cruz gave those protesters was fine as far as it goes, and I applaud him for it. Missing from his remarks though was the usual failure to question or push back against the belief that CO2 is some kind of polluting vice that needs to be regulated.

I tend to believe that the climate scare narrative is only going to die out in one of two ways: (1) Either it is debunked by someone in high office (Trump in his second term?) with the truth from science or (2) CO2 and temperatures start going in opposite directions as the Earth starts to cool. I tend to favor the former rather than waiting for the latter to happen.

From YouTube videos I’ve watched, Trump has (as of right now) a comfortable lead in the Electoral College count (80 or more votes depending on the video you watch). He is known to be no big fan of the climate alarmist narrative and will likely ignore it in a second term. He never really pushed back against CAGW with the debunking science using the vigor needed to totally shoot it down in his first term. He will have a second chance if the Electoral College count (as it is now) holds up through election day.

I suspect that members of Congress like Senator Cruz would welcome an offensive campaign against the CAGW narrative given that he is from a fossil fuel producing state. With people like myself who have heard way more than enough climate lies, he would not be alone.

Your #1 won’t do the job because, well “Trump lies“. Thus, he can have no effect on the beliefs of “The Cult.” A charismatic modern-day prophet might be possible. Think of Oprah Winfrey with climate sense.
Your #2 might work if a spectacular and sustained change was to occur with no potential other things having happened. Nothing like a major volcanic explosion, …?.., or something like the 1908 Tunguska event.
I think we need a #3.

John,

I do not believe that a majority of the U.S. population believes in the CAGW narrative with such intense cult-like faith that they cannot be turned against it when presented with the science that debunks it. I acknowledge that some will always believe. As long as the majority accept the science that shoots CAGW down, it cannot (or at least should not) be used as a factor in U.S. energy policy.

As for a #3, I am open to ideas.

Yes, I heard. In the eyes of the liberal justices, inserting a ballot in a ballot box that could be located anywhere constitutes “turning the ballot in to the municipal clerk.”

At lest that is what I’ve read. Quite a stretch if you ask me.

One wonders why drop boxes are so important to liberals when there are USPS public mail boxes in abundance scattered around our neighborhoods where folks can easily drop off their mail-in and absentee ballots. It couldn’t possibly be because its easy to stuff lots of fraudulent ballots in drop boxes unobserved in the middle of the night at the last minute. Only a conservative cynic would think something so preposterous could happen.

It’s probably down to three states: Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Biden has to win all three. But Wisconsin has a left-wing governor and the state Supreme Court flipped recently, resulting in this decision. And Michigan and Pennsylvania both had AGs (Pennsylvania’s is now governor) who promised their states would flip to Biden in 2020… and they did.

Biden is far from out of it. These people hate Trump so much that they’ll make it happen.

These people have been fed so much propaganda about Trump that they think he is Adolf Hitler and they will do anything legal or illegal to try to keep him out of office including weaponizing the “Justice” Department and other federal agencies against him.

Republicans are doing everything they can think of to limit the Democrat cheating.

It was reported the other day that about 10 percent of illegal aliens living in North Caroline have been registered to vote in the federal election. This is a serious problem, and is the reason Biden has thrown the U.S. borders wide open.

The House of Representatives passed the “Safe Act” last week. The only provision in the bill is that to vote in an American federal election, the voter has to be an American citizen. Short and sweet.

All House Republicans and five Democrats voted in favor of this bill. But 198 Democrats voted against this bill. Now the bill goes to the U.S. Senate. How will the Democrat Senators vote? I think we all know they will vote against it. That’s because Democrats are trying to destroy the United States and in the process, give themselves political power in perpetuity by rigging elections in their favor and by putting their political opponents in jail.

There is some hope. Trump’s poll numbers are looking very good, and he is even becoming competitive in Blue States that have not been figured into the Electoral College count.

Trump says Joe Biden is so bad, he, Trump, might win all the States. Let’s hope Trump is correct because this nation cannot stand another four years of radical Democrat rule. It will be all over after that as they consolidate their power. Then it will be a one-party nation, a radical Democrat/Communist govenment with lots of political opponents going to jail.

“The pushback that Senator Cruz gave those protesters was fine as far as it goes, and I applaud him for it. Missing from his remarks though was the usual failure to question or push back against the belief that CO2 is some kind of polluting vice that needs to be regulated.”

Yes, that was my first thought. There is a difference between Carbon and Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Dioxide is not a pollutant.

There is no evidence Carbon Dioxide is anything other than a benign gas, essential for life on Earth.

Wasn’t there talk of having a big debate of top scientists- then that never happened?

I believe there was Joseph, but they apparently decided against it for some reason. Whatever their reason was, I don’t think I agree with it.

Cruz is a giant of a man. I have no tolerance for these bottom feeding protesters. They are dummy robots. Our rights do not end where theirs begin. We should use whatever force is necessary to remove them and keep them out.

I think he was.

Maybe Ted needs a little bit more education on the subject. He’s headed in the right direction, he just needs to get the details a little straighter.

In the political world, CO2 is a pollutant. That’s what the EPA says. In America, all effective politicians know better than to stick their foot into the isle of pre-determined belief.

The current issue is not whether CO2 is a pollutant or not. The issue is how bad a pollutant it is. If you don’t understand the difference, then you don’t understand politics.

All politicians will continue to kiss babies even though they are known reservoirs of disease. That should tell you something about politicians.

While I am a big supporter of Ted Cruz, and any other politician, for that matter, who dares to publicly question this “Climate Change” con, I have some reservations. Namely, using phrases like “climate polluter, reduction of carbon emissions or the largest polluter on planet Earth”. Surely, anyone with even the basic understanding of chemistry would know that carbon is a solid, and can not be therefore “emitted”. Carbon dioxide on the other hand can be emitted, since it is a gas. And, of course, since China has a lot of coal fired power stations, it is emitting a lot of CO2. This,of course, doesn’t mean, they are the biggest polluter, because CO2 is NOT a pollutant. I really wish, somebody in the “know” would point this silliness to those speaking in public, so they will not unintentionally provide support to the warmists by using their terminology. And while we are on the topic of CO2, would be nice, if those brave politicians would start to push against this idiocy that CO2 is dangerously warming the planet. There are many published scientific studies which show that CO2 is irrelevant when it comes to warming climate.

I agree with you, but I got to thinking that since the Chicoms are burning so much coal, they are also powering their industries with the energy generated and those industries are probably polluting the air more than any other nation, so Ted may have stumbled onto the truth, in a roundabout way.

China may be the biggest polluter, but it’s not CO2 that is contributing to any pollution.

I agree. We are losing to the “climate change” narrative by using their made-up terms like “carbon” for CO2 and “CO2 pollution.”

TIP something to watch – wildland fires.
There have been nearly 30,000 fires (to date), with 2.9 million acres involved. The year 2015 was more in both respects, having 4.6 million acres involved by July 12th; 2022 had 5M.

Cruz has no idea what he is talking about

There is no such thing as carbon (CO2) pollution

The leading REAL air pollution nation is either India or China, who both could not care less about CO2 emissions. China was in the lead 10 years ago on urban air pollution, but have tried to stop the increase of air pollution in urban areas since then. More progress in China than India.

A friend’s son pilots a private US corporate jet to various Chinese cities for many decades and reports that air pollution seemed to have peaked 2013 but has not declined by much since then.

I think Cruz knows CO2 isn’t pollution but he was focused on mentioning China- that was his key point- and it was something said in a hurry while he was being harassed.

“China is by far the world’s leading carbon polluter, according to The Carbon Brief…”

Not sure that was wise saying that as implies there’s such a thing as a carbon polluter. I realize their point but it could have been said differently- like “which nation emits the most CO2?”.

July 13, 2024 5:36 am

But Ted is still playing their game. CO2 is NOT “pollution” and there is no need to reduce it. A warmer climate is BETTER. Confront the deluded fools with THOSE facts.

July 13, 2024 9:01 am

“Hold on, hold on, which country is the biggest climate polluter on planet Earth?” Cruz asked the protesters.

If that was the question the protester was replying to, then he/she was right to say the US.

CO2 is a long-lived greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. It has a very long ‘residence time’, measured in centuries; so historical emissions come into play if the above question was the one being answered.

USA is by far the largest emitter of the increased CO2 currently in the atmosphere.
