Climate “Communicators” Discover the Best Way to Persuade Voters is to Lie to Them

This is a hilarious X (formerly Twitter) thread on a presentation about “messaging over climate”.

Worst messages tested: electric cars, Green New Deal, frontline communities, ‘Big Oil lied’, climate pollution

Talking about electric cars especially deadly for Democrats. Women in particular frightened of battery running out. (Interesting gendered spin on range anxiety I hadn’t thought about before).

The thread quickly jumps to the best messages ever tested, all of which are outright lies, out of context projections, or fantasies.

Best messages ever tested: Save on energy bills/lowering energy costs; kitchen-sink costs; creating good stable jobs; investments in transit, infra, manufacturing; R&D for clean energy.

We can assume you’ve spit out your coffee or had some similar reaction at this point.

Let’s parse this a bit.

Save on energy bills/lowering energy costs; kitchen-sink costs,

Uh, ask consumers in California, the UK, Canada, or Germany about that one.

creating good stable jobs;

Employees of Solyndra, Proterra, Fisker, Arrival UK, or any large industry in Germany, the list goes on, may have a different take, not to mention pipeline and construction workers.

investments in transit, infra, manufacturing;

The California High Speed Rail project is the poster child for this, along with the types companies alluded to above. Many of these projects are no more beneficial to the overall economy than if you simply paid one group of workers to dig holes and another group to fill them back up again.

R&D for clean energy.

Money being spent to fight the laws of thermodynamics, detract from economic growth, raise energy prices, create environmental devastation, instead of stable, dispatchable, small environmental footprint, baseload power.

… The message “Green New Deal” now *isn’t* associated with government investment to spur on good jobs and economic development; instead it became associated with bans on burgers and flying, and in particular provoked a fear of making energy expensive.

I find this bemoaning beyond parody.

and in particular provoked a fear of making energy expensive.

BECAUSE IT’S %%@^^ TRUE, REALITY, AND DEMONSTRATED TIME AFTER TIME

The X thread goes on to discuss AOC’s politically disastrous rolling out of her Green New Deal in 2019 and the subsequent backpedaling. However, it also notes that this same enviro-marxist messaging continues unabated and continues to drive the public away from their utopian fantasy.

It’s a fun thread to read on X. Just make sure you swallowed your coffee first before reading.

When the Green New Deal was voted upon it failed. When it was fully implemented in the IRA bill it has now given us a window into the fraud, waste and abuse rampant in the movement. Hopefully we learn the $2 trillion lesson and stop.

Unless one researches and unwraps all the claims/statements from the media …. from both sides …. you never know the truth. Anyone that thinks this is normal and just a natural flow of information today is naive. It’s being driven by the same people that gained control of the MSM, UN, and the courts. AGW is just one example. Marxism has bide its’ time, laid a groundwork, and is executing its’ plan for One World Government using their ideology.

All politics is local and the cost, burden and loss of freedom implicit in the green dream are becoming apparent at the household level. Need to turn that into votes.

June 25, 2024 11:08 am

There is nothing new here, really. Advocates have advocated for misdirection over facts since the beginning.

June 25, 2024 11:13 am

Forget about what you are going to save, lets look at what we already have saved in America.

Remember, under Obama’s Healthcare plan, it’s been 16 years now since all Americans have saved $2500 per year on their medical insurance premiums.

$2500 X 16 X 330,000,000 = 13.2 trillion dollars that democrats have saved Americans.

Plus everyone who wanted to keep their doctor, got to keep their doctor.

It’s no wonder why all Americans are wholly supportive, even ecstatic about Mr. Obama’s breakthrough policies that provide affordable health care for all US residents.

And if you didn’t already have a doctor, Mr. Obama would generously arrange for you to receive applications to act free as your personal medico from a vast pool of highly qualified and skilled physicians in your area, from which you could choose one (or more) who were culturally and gender acceptable to you.

And Mr. Obama was able to propose his legislation, regulations and final amendments for congress to absorb in just 33,000 pages in total.
And he gave them a generous 36 hours in which to finally vote YES
(as if any of them actually needed to do this – the AHC was like the 10 Commandments in 12-point Times Roman)

What a guy!

When I was an independent IT consultant 20 years ago, I had a personal health plan I paid for myself. Now I have one through Obamacare, and it costs about the same, except the deductible now is WAAYYY higher than the old one I had.

We have a shortage of doctors in my area. Never have I waited to long to get an appointment. It takes 6 to 8 weeks to get a new patient appointment with a primary care doctor. The wait for specialists is longer.

That’s what always happens when the price of a commodity is held artificially low. The supply of that commodity becomes scarce.

The wife and I dropped into an Eye Care facility, that includes a glasses store, about six weeks ago. My wife had lost a screw from her glasses. Neither of us has had an eye test in several years. “Go make an appointment” I was told. “The earliest we have is in December. We’re down to just one doctor.” So we both have appointments, on December 6. (At least they’re in the morning, not the afternoon. [Sierra Vista, AZ])

But they would have gone up$2500 a year MORE if the AHA hadn’t been enacted, HONEST. You’ve already enjoyed your share of the $13.2 T. Aren’t we lucky that Obama saved us all that money! Not like that evil Orange Man cutting taxes, interest rates, and regulations.

Whenever a political group or party or candidate loses an election, especially on the left/dem side of the divide, the first thing they always blame is “Our messaging wasn’t effective enough.”

Actually, when it comes to pet left wing causes, the messaging is extremely effective – the people don’t want whatever it is they’re selling.

David Wojick

That is why the effective messages do not mention what they are selling, they just lie about the supposed benefits. Lower prices, more jobs, etc. No one is against benefits, right?

(The Solyndra CEOs were big Obama donors. Probably just a coincidence.)

June 25, 2024 1:53 pm

They sold the idea GAGW was an “existential threat” decades ago as an excuse to enact oppressive measures to address it. They’ve changed some of the terminology over that the years to keep it going.
But the effects stupid things they’ve done to stop what more and more have noticed HAS NOT happened is being noticed more and more by the rank and file.
So they conclude that it’s just a “communication problem” rather than there’s a BIG problem with what they are trying to communicate.

As to hybrids being more popular, there was a report (I believe from the Consumers Union) about a year ago that showed that basic hybrids were more prone to visits to the shop than ICEVs (about 160%) and plug in hybrids were even worse (about 220%). No, I don’t have a link – just memory.

As to hybrids being more popular,

My take on this is when buying a new car you have choices:

  1. Buying an all-out ICE – Sorry, banned.
  2. Buy an all-out EV – er, no thanks, range, fires, etc
  3. Buy a hybrid – no thanks, I want a proper car. Oh wait, I can’t have a proper car. I guess I’ll have to settle on an ICE with a battery

A bit like the lie spread by some that El Nino is the cause of the warming. Even when one of the foremost skeptical scientists (Roy Spencer) tells them they are wrong, they still keep repeating it. It’s like they cling on to it because they have nothing else. All a bit sad really.

Poor little simpleton still cannot see the El Nino warming in the UAH data.

Deliberately blind.. or just incredibly DUMB !!

And of course the poor little simpleton cannot give any evidence of human causation whatsoever.

He clings to his emptymess.. because it is all he has and all he is capable of..

Even his twin, with the same single digit IQ, fungal..

… has shown that the atmospheric warming has come only from the strong El Ninos

Here is your chance… show us the warming in UAH that doesn’t include any of the three major El Ninos..

Maybe you could use the period from 1980 to1997..
or from 2001 to 2015..
or from 2017 to the beginning of 2023.

Then show us how humans caused it. 😉

Thanks for admitting that the El Ninos are the cause of the warming.

You have done well to finally admit it.. 🙂

At least you are not in total denial any more.

You never figured out that the warm water from the El Nino event spreads out from that area, did you, little simpleton.

And of course you are still absolutely empty of any evidence of human causation.

roflmao.. you are totally clueless, aren’t you.

Everyone can see the step change at each major El Nino…

… and you want to somehow “pretend” that the El Nino didn’t cause it.

What little wacky science fantasy have you got in that tiny little mind of yours ??

Did the mythical CO2 warming “hide” somewhere, and just sneak-out at El Nino time ??

Come one… here is your chance…

… show us, using scientific evidence, the warming in UAH that doesn’t include any of the three major El Ninos..

Show us the human causation.

Interestingly, Bod Tisdale shows this step change happening even at more minor El Nino events, and not just in the Pacific.

Ocean current take that warm El Nino water everywhere.

Certainly no sign of any human causation, is there. !

I have to give a talk to true believers at a major national university on the so-called energy transformation. I believe most of my audience has been persuaded that renewables (solar and wind) are the lowest cost source for electricity generation. I am going to argue (tell my audience) that I could not find a single city, county, state/province, and country where the cost of electricity has dropped because they have shifted from fossil fuels to renewables. Can anyone?

“Women in particular frightened of battery running out.”

Like that mother in Phoenix whose battery died while she was going from putting her child in the car seat to getting into the driver’s seat? She couldn’t get in to the car and had to call the FD to rescue her kid. They ended up breaking the window.

I wonder if she’ll consider a EV for HER next car…

Re: “women worrying about the battery running out” in an electric car–this past winter, there were numerous reports of the batteries of electric cars discharging much faster in cold weather than in warm weather.

So, if a driver (female or male) is stuck in a blizzard because the road has become impassable, if the car has an internal combustion engine, the driver can periodically start the car and idle the engine for a few minutes with the heater turned on, in order to stay somewhat warm until the roads are cleared. The same person in an electric car would have the option of freezing to death in the car or outside looking for shelter.

[QUOTE FROM X POST]”He said that around 2017, the ‘Green New Deal’ message actually did very well. But there are what he called “tripwires” that undo even popular positions/policies/messages, and the left began to set off some of those tripwires…”[END QUOTE]

The “Green New Deal” message did well in 2017 because it wasn’t yet implemented, and then-President Trump had removed the United States from the “Paris accords”. In 2017, people hadn’t yet experienced its negative effects.

But since 2021, President Biden has canceled oil pipelines (except in Ukraine for Hunter’s employer), drilling leases, and tried to force people to abandon ICE cars and even gas stoves. This has led to increased energy costs for everyone, and industries have to pass the increased costs on to customers, including even grocery stores since trucking products to market has become more expensive. The he twisted arms in the Senate to fund a $2 trillion subsidy for renewables, which exploded the budget deficit and inflation, but who actually benefited from all that money?

So, for the past 3-1/2 years, Biden’s “Green New Deal” has made most people poorer, with little or no benefit. Now that people have experienced the Green New Deal and counted the cost, they just might prefer to forget about it, be able to feed their families, and tolerate some slightly warmer weather.
