While it was pouring with rain a year ago, the Environment Agency was still warning of drought!
Perhaps they should have consulted the Met Office:

What does a sane person suppose the view of the “National Drought Group” would be? The most appropriate group would be the “Goldilocks Group”, which realizes: somewhere there is a drought, somewhere there is a flood, and somewhere it is normal. The complicated part of this view is predicting when the cycles will visit your area, and how to prepare (build a dam or build a boat) for the immediate future.
“What does a sane person suppose the view of the “National Drought Group” would be?”
Same as for that Wadhams outfit…
Arctic Methane Emergency Group (AMEG) – Written evidence (ARC0055)
https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/54197/pdf/
It’s a scientific gem…
“With Hitler, we lost a lot of precious armament time during the appeasement, while
Churchill was almost in despair to persuade the government to intervene. In the
Balkans, we eventually intervened, but only after thousands of lives were lost and a
great deal of mutual trust between neighbouring peoples destroyed.”
Now do you understand?! They’re bonkers.
I always wondered how things turned out for that miscreant rubita, Ron.
Breaking and entering, destruction of private property (chair), theft (oatmeal)…
If the Bears were Democrats, I guess she would have squatters rights and have been eligible for EBT cards and a free cellphone.
Some self-proclaimed ‘scientists’ were even talking about hosepipe bans.
Like reminding soaking wet Californians about the coming droughts.
Give them the pipe and keep the hose.
More than three years of average precipitation in the past two years and much cooler.
Where did that drought go? I’d say it dried up…. boom boom.
There are a lot of mixed messages coming out of the alarmist mouth pieces. Be it pre-print or otherwise.
“On a planet getting hotter and drier by the year, governments are wilfully ignoring a looming crisis” – The Moonbat.
“Tewksbury has been flooded since Roman times,” he says, looking over the deluge that has swamped dozens of homes as well as the cricket ground, recreation ground and car park.
“But what we’re seeing now with climate change is that those extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. Global warming enables clouds to hold more moisture and drop it more swiftly on places like here or elsewhere. And that’s what we’re seeing. And for me, this isn’t just about floods in Tewkesbury. It’s a wake-up call for the nation. We cannot be surprised every time there is a storm that does this.”
https://www.theguardian.com/weather/2024/jan/05/heavy-flooding-is-climate-crisis-wake-up-call-for-uk-says-tewkesbury-abbey-canon
So, on the one hand we’re facing a deadly drought, and on the other, more frequent, intense storms with lots of flooding. Clear?
“Perhaps they should have consulted the Met Office”
Indeed they should, the Met Office has a number of cherry-picking methods developed to back up even the most outlandish claims.
The funny thing is it’s raining – again. Even funnier is the Civil Service’s reluctance to go back to work post-pandemic… Figures are hard to come by, but Guido has some:
“You’d think with the highest burden since the war the UK’s tax overlords would have enough on their plate to bother coming into the office. Not so. So far this year only 53% of HMRC staff bothered to turn up to their desks at swanky 100 Parliament Street. The worst performer of all government departments…
HMRC was the only department to have below 50% of its desks occupied last year – that’s compared to 80% at the MoD. This comes as HMRC tries to close its own helpline for half of the year while spending £8 million annually on a whopping 155 press staff. Meanwhile PCS, the civil service union, is ramping up threats to strike if it civil servants don’t get a “shorter week for the same pay“. Does the government need to start funding treatment for work shyness?”

They got used to the Amazon deliveries etc and the take away food, and now they don’t want to give it up.
How many at the EA are working from home? Quite a few I bet.
Ah, the rain is stopping. Does that mean I’m now in drought?
In a Galaxy far, far away ….. it isn’t raining at the moment.
Sorry.
The rain has stopped; for now.
Sympathy is not required, I’m an old hand at the UKs weather. I’ve seen a whole lot worse than anything we’ve had this century.
But you can send your climate amelioration donation to me…..
Do you take chocolate coins?
Er, I’ll take that as currency – I’m far from fat.
That would be a flash drought.
I remember in geography lessons in the early 80s being told by Mr Campbell that Kent could be classed as semi-arid as it has about the same rainfall totals as parts of Israel. He explained why it “always” rained in Manchester and that Waikato plain in New Zealand was the wettest place on earth and the atacama desert the driest. I don’t think much has really changed in his lesson other than it seems to have not stopped raining since November. And I live in neither Manchester or Waikato.
So far here in southeastern Virginia, March was one of the second wettest month on record with over 9 inches. .
Then you are undoubtedly in drought….
correct … as soon as the rain stopped, they stepped into the initial stage of a drought.
Ironically, in Colorado, our global warming induced drought and end of snow is leading to a record extended ski season.
Pikes Peak is at 243% of snowpack:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/denvergazette.com/outtherecolorado/news/snowpack-at-243-percent-of-norm-on-colorado-mountain-after-four-plus-feet-of-snow/article_26561782-f054-11ee-8bc0-536a93410628.amp.html
Without a doubt, if ski areas had to close a week early or if mountain snow were below normal, climate change would be blamed.
There might still be a hosepipe ban this summer. Apparently the water companies are dumping so much sewage in rivers that they can’t use the water in the reservoirs. Talk about pooping in your own backyard.

I also saw that California is still in permanent drought.
Yeah, in the deserts. So what else is new?
Sorry, forgot the <sarc> tag. There is actually no current drought anywhere in California.
Known by the old colonials as “Mud Island”.
California has been releasing water from some reservoirs to keep them from overflowing with a sudden deluge and has declared a roll back of water conservation …. but they stress it’s probably a “temporary” situation. As usual the governor says “this time” we’re going to plan ahead and do something to increase our storage because CC is here to stay. Wash, rinse, repeat. Nothing will be done since any loose fiscal money will go to homeless, illegal immigrants, and DEI.
Newsom entered the governors office with a 95 billion dollar surplus and is now governing with a 68 billion dollar deficit. It all happened during his watch and only he signs all revenue bills. Nothing has gotten better since he entered office as the rate of people fleeing the state has increased which tells you all you need to know.
The doomsters all Instagram each other and it’s likely coordinated via the International Panel for Climactic Catastrophism-

Well when it’s still soggy all over naturally the doomsters have to predict dreaded drought some time ahead-

When drought hits again naturally that will be the signal to bang on about tipping points again. Yawn!
Given the typical weather pattern in the UK, two straight sunny days are probably considered to be a drought.
In the Chicago area, we haven’t seen the sun yet in April. No drought here!
While studying weather and climate, do not look outside the window for fear of misinformation.
What can I say? It is government once again giving us clear reasons not to believe them. They are incompetent and dishonest.
We know they are incompetent and dishonest and they know we know and we know they know we know we know….but they still keep getting paid to be incompetent and dishonest-
‘It’s rank incompetence’: Lionel Shriver on the real cost of going electric | SpectatorTV – YouTube
Sort of, but at this point the “Pravda Effect” seems to be still working. As in, at certain stage of growing incompetence the official press actually carries worthwhile information again, you only have to assume the plain sense of their statements is the opposite of true (granted, it’s not unambiguous, but still can help a lot).
Unfortunately, this phenomenon is unstable, the stream of “opposite day” information will eventually decay into meaningless drivel.
Back in Oz, our government and academic climate scientists keep on predicting the forever droughts for SE Australia. The latest being from the Australian National University, where they warn: “Scientists warn Australians to prepare for megadroughts lasting more than 20 years”
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-03/more-megadrought-warnings-climate-change-australia/103661658
However, in real time, rain is the common norm:

As our famous poet and pioneer climatologist, Dorothea MacKellar once wrote, back in 1909:
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!
Yeah but she was a 15 year old schoolgirl then without tiktok whereas nowadays she’s steeped in victimhood-

I did like this bit-
“It’s a female-dominated industry and we’re not looking after women.”
Apparently it’s not working out quite like the lefties planned it all so naturally they’re looking for a scapegoat or control over the messaging more likely-
Canada school boards accuse social media firms of ‘rewiring’ how kids think (msn.com)
The more victimhood classifications you identify the more oppression you have to deal with eh lefties? You want to be careful lest you drill right down to the individual one on one level with that and it’s the dark side (gulp!)
Yes John, the BoM climate forecasts are all based on their new maladjusted models that are doomed to fail because they use AGW as the defining preface condition. Here is Queensland I can’t get a decent game of golf because the courses are sopping wet with the water table at the surface. Yet the government won’t build or upgrade a dam for love or money, unless its for the absurdity of pumped hydro.! When the supersaturated stratosphere calms down it will stop raining and we will have `NORMAL’ WEATHER and eventually another drought, but by then we may have a new government that can take control and build some more dams and conventional power stations to keep our nice lifestyles stable and secure once again.
Was Britain’s climate not supposed to become very hot, very cold, very wet and very dry at the same time?
It’s like you do not understand dialexy.
At least, National Flood Group should be going “aha, we told you so!” this time. If there’s no National Flood Group, that’s a truly shocking failure of the
cancerbureaucracy to cover all holes from which some money can pour. Please pay your taxez, etc.
